When it becomes clear that popular psychiatrist and radio personality Wade Savage has a stalker, his father secretly hires Elite Guardians in order to protect his son. But when Wade's bodyguard is attacked and nearly killed, agency owner Olivia Edwards must step in and fill the gap.
Olivia's skills are about to be tested to the limit as Wade's stalker moves from leaving innocent gifts at his door to threatening those closest to him--including Olivia. But in her mind, even more dangerous than the threats to her life is the hold her handsome client has on her heart.
Lynette Eason grew up in Greenville, SC. She graduated from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and then obtained her masters in education from Converse College. Author of twenty inspirational romantic suspense books, she is also a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and Romance Writers of America (RWA). In 1996, Lynette married "the boy next door" and now she and her husband and their two children make their home in Simpsonville, South Carolina."
From page 1, to the very end, this had my attention. There were definitely a few late nights!
I was immediately intrigued by Olivia's character. Rather terse, very quiet, and clearly with a history, I kept reading if only to find out about her. Then, of course, Wade. Another multi-faceted character. I think that's what I liked so much about this book: each and every one of the characters had so many dimensions and so much depth.
I at first had a hard time getting into Eason's writing style, which is pretty stripped down. But it really worked for the type of story, and eventually it didn't bug me any more.
The plot was very well done; intense, fast-paced, without being too fast, and yet heartwarming. Details were revealed at just the right time, and Eason kept me guessing as to the identity of the stalker. The thread of romance was very sweet and subtle, which is just the way I like it. It did not feel forced or in-your-face at all. Kudos for that!
The ending was surprising, and there were a lot of nail-biting twists and turns leading up to it. While this is a series, it ended as if it was a standalone book, without any cliffhangers.
All in all, I very much enjoyed this suspense novel! I appreciated how it was very clean - yes, there was definitely some things I would not recommend for a younger audience, but there was no over-the-top graphic description of violence or gore, nothing sexual, etc. I would recommend this for ages 15+.
There's a good reason that Lynette Eason made it onto my favorite authors list so quickly. She's a wonderfully talented suspense author who makes me want to read her books all the way through in one sitting! Unfortunately, there's this little thing called life that keeps me from doing that. :P
This book is just great! I went into it with high expectations (based on the author's other books that I have read and loved) and I was not disappointed. I loved the characters, the dialogue, the storyline, the suspense, the writing style... Really, I just loved the book! :)
I always enjoy trying to solve the mystery before the "big reveal" and I was able to figure out some of it (mostly by crossing off suspects, which the author seemed to have in abundance), though I wasn't sure at all until the end. While I do love figuring out the mystery, I also really love it when an author can successfully keep me guessing and surprise me in the end. And some parts of this story really totally surprised me! And the suspense was great too-- keeping me on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next!
There is an element of romance, but I actually really liked that it wasn't the focus of the story. It's there and it can't be ignored (I even thought it was a bit much at first), but as the story progressed I enjoyed that part too.
I could go on and on.....
There's a preview of book 2 in the back of this one, but there's no way I'm reading that!! I don't even want to know who or what the 2nd book is about. The surprise and suspense of Lynette's stories are just way too much fun for me to chance spoiling any of it! :)
Oh, and I kinda hope that Charlie makes it into one of the later books. Don't know why, but I just instantly liked him. ;)
This fast paced romantic suspense is the introduction to Lynette Eason's new Elite Guardians series. With the speed of a rocket, Eason starts the suspense from the first chapter and keeps it moving until the very end.
Wade is a talk show psychiatrist and is being stalked by one of his listeners. Olivia, the owner of the Elite Guardians bodyguard agency, has been assigned his protection by his father. When things begin to escalate, Olivia realizes that this is about a whole lot more than just an everyday stalker. With twists and turns galore and plenty of suspects, nothing is as it appears. Throw in Wade's 12 year old daughter, the beginnings of a romance between Wade and Olivia and a strong faith thread, and you have a well written suspense romance.
I particularly liked that both Wade and Olivia had to address some of their weaknesses as this story progressed. The past had touched each of them in different ways, and they both had to break down the walls that they had erected to keep themselves from being hurt. Wade's faith helped him and in turn helped Olivia.
I look forward to continuing this suspense series and learning more about the ladies of Elite Guardians.

My sister has mentioned Lynette Eason to me for a while now, but I just now got around to reading my first one of her books. If you like suspense and mystery, this one is a great gripper! It has been a long time since I’ve wanted to stay up and read until the book was finished—that, to me, puts this as a great read.
Though I had my hunches, I couldn’t solve the mystery until almost the end. I was still bouncing two suspects around in my mind—and I really like that. The book was not predictable. It had some “sick parts” where I was just disturbed by the lengths an individual would take in order to get their own way (in other words, it was a murder mystery, and just disturbing that someone would actually kill someone with the motives they had).
As with the last few books I’ve read, it really disturbs me how a saved individual in a book will develop a relationship and feelings for a lost person—even if they “know better.” I don’t believe that there should be any excuses, and I don’t feel like it is presenting a real example. Most often, the lost person doesn’t just “turn around” like they do in fiction. Yes, it happens, but it’s not realistic. That is probably the biggest spiritual concern I have about this book. It’s not as meaty as Dee Henderson’s book, but it was definitely Christian.
The romance wasn’t too heavy-handed until toward the end, which I appreciated.
I did not realize this was a Christian book before reading, but let there be no doubt... it very much is.
Okay so... my main issue is that the Elite Guardian bodyguards are totally incompetent. They don't successfully stop any attacks. The clue that sends them to the right place to save the day? That was discovered/solved by the victim's grandpa. The client they're doing a piss poor job of protecting gets blown up, shot, shot again, kidnapped, shot. These women are literally the worst bodyguards ever.
When a radio host is being stalked, the women of the Elite Guardians Bodyguard Agency swoop in to protect him and his twelve-year-old daughter. But what if the stalker turns violent... and aims at the protectors?
Always Watching is the first book in Lynette Eason's newest series: Elite Guardians. It's fast-paced adventure with memorable characters that face true-to-life issues, including common fears.
One fear I especially connected with was the fear of water. It's a difficult one to deal with--and even harder to overcome--but Lynette handled the telling of it with finesse and a good dose of reality. There was a moment or two I almost had a flashback to my own traumatic childhood near-drowning, Lynette's writing on the topic seemed so realistic.
As with all Lynette Eason books, faith was woven into the storyline. From my personal experience, I can tell you it takes a lot of faith to believe things will turn out all right when you're scared to death (rational fear or otherwise). Again, Lynette handled this perfectly. She really has a great gift for storytelling.
The next few months will seem so long as I anticipate the summer 2016 release of book two in this series, Without Warning.
Thank you, Lynette Eason, for including me in your street team and giving me a complimentary copy of Always Watching in exchange for my honest review.
*This book contains violence associated with the suspense genre. Reader discretion advised.
It is not often in the suspense genre that you find a bodyguard agency operated solely by women (with an occasional employee of the opposite gender). Olivia, Katie, Haley, Maddy – they run the Elite Guardians Agency and they have some serious skills. And courage.
But they aren’t the only girls with power in Always Watching. Their client Wade’s daughter Amy is a preteen with some serious anxiety issues. Understandably, her dad being the target of a crazy stalker doesn’t help matters any. Nevertheless, Amy is my favorite character in Always Watching because of her anxiety and because when she’s older she’s totally gonna give Olivia and the other bodyguards at Elite some competition for who’s fiercest under pressure. As someone who knows exactly what Amy was experiencing during one of her panic attacks, I loved when her dad told her that her actions during one particularly (and legitimately) frightening event proved:
“That you’re clever and smart and strong and that the panic attacks don’t define you. You’re an overcomer and you’re going to be just fine.”
But enough about girl power (although that was one seriously cool aspect of the book). The action in Always Watching began right out of the gate and – as I’ve come to expect when reading a Lynette Eason book – kept me on the edge of my seat for the duration. As Toni Shiloh said in her review, “Y’all there were so many messed up females in this book that EVERYONE seemed suspicious to me.” I really didn’t feel it was wise to trust anyone outside of the Elite agency – I even started growing wary of their law enforcement contacts!
I also enjoyed the insights into Olivia’s past as well as into her present insecurities. She may be fierce but she’s not invincible, and she needs Wade as much as he needs her. While Wade needs Olivia to keep him physically safe, she needs him to guard her heart and to guide her soul back to the God who hasn’t taken His eyes off her even when she walked away from Him. Their romance developed throughout the story, mostly from Wade’s point of view, and one kiss in particular made me want to cheer out loud for them!
Bottom Line: Lynette Eason’s latest suspense offering is fast-paced, action-packed, and full of grace. Her writing talent is more than evident in the natural dialogue, the tension, the vivid characters. While romance is definitely present in the story, it never overshadows the suspense, making this an ideal choice both for people who do love kissingbooks and those who don’t. The element of faith is there as well – a solid thread that manages to avoid turning “trite” or “preachy”. Lynette Eason is one of my go-to authors for romantic suspense, and Always Watching is a magnificent start to her new series!
(I received a copy of this book in exchange for only my honest review.)

However, I didn’t enjoy the blood or the stalker or the “oh my g—“ (it was cut off like that, but still made me frown.), so I can’t give it a higher rating. This was my first book by this author, and as far as suspense goes, I liked it. I totally called who the stalker was and, quite honestly, was proud when it was revealed who it was. ;) I really liked Olivia and can relate to her in some ways. I also really liked Charlie and hope he’ll be in more of the books! The cover is very clean and nice for the plot, I hope to continue the series as they come out.
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Publisher (Revell) for this honest review.
A very good thriller. It was interesting to read a story about a women run bodyguard company. It touched on a few difficult themes. Such as, that we need to cling to God in times of trouble, that life isn't going to be perfect, but God is always there.
Olivia is a nice character. She is quiet and tense and she is struggling. She is a professional and is very good at what she does. She was a former detective and knew her way around in an investigation which made her even more knowledgeable though there were times she overstepped the line between body guarding and cop work. However most of the time she did let the cops do their job while providing feedback and opinions of what she thinks.
I really liked Wade and the father figure he is. He's been through so much.
I really liked Amy with her anxiety and all. She is a pretty amazing kid, even if she is afraid sometimes. Though there were times I thought some of the things she was doing was not very bright.
Content in Book:
1. Violence. (Cutting someone in the throat. Guns. Hand-to-hand combat. Someone jumping on the back of someone else. Getting thrown and knocked out. Someone getting impelled. Etc.)
2. Stalkers.
3. Kidnapping.
4. Someone getting injected with drugs to make them unconscious.
5. A bomb.
6. A mention of how someone died in a car accident.
7. Dealing with dead people. (Crime investigation.)
8. A house burning on fire.
Who I Would Recommend This Book Too:
Those who like crime drama. Those who like mysteries. Those who like books about bodyguards.
Will I Continue With The Next Book in The Series???
Yep, I think I will. I really enjoy this novel and I am looking forward to reading the next one in the series.
I had really high expectations for this book especially since I felt like the summary was very unique. I am usually drawn to alpha-males-protecting-their-girls types of books so I found this one refreshing.
Plot-wise, it was really good. I had absolutely no clue who the hell the bad guys were and was shocked when I found out about them. Writing was good as well. What I had a big problem with was the characters. Every person in this book was so goddamn boring. I caught myself skipping pages especially when Olivia and Wade were having this "supposed" moment filled with heated looks or whatever. Wade's daughter also gave me a headache. I'm sorry to say that I won't be continuing with this series. I legit almost fell asleep reading it. I was just pushing through since I was still curious what the ending would be.
I don't really recommend this. I feel really bad about it too since majority of you seem to like it so much.
I honestly can't remember this too well (it's once-again been too long), but I do know it was an exciting story with lots of adventure and a great mystery and it was a little creepy ... but in a good way. (What? I like being scared ...)
I disliked What's-His-Name's daughter. She was annoying. Get over yourself, kid, and stop being so stupid! It's like you want to be kidnapped. (I know, I have no sympathy for anyone ... I'm a terrible person ... but these are my honest feelings, y'know?)
And ... I honestly can't remember any of my other thoughts? Other than Olivia is awesome as is What's-His-Name. And the Elite Guardians are just about the coolest organization in the world. Also, Olivia's friend's death was a little over-the-top. Like, seriously?
This is a pretty perfect beginning to a brand new series full of mystery, suspense, romance, fun characters and a great premise. Four women work together in a bodyguard agency they own. Love that it is a group of women. That is a clever storyline for sure! I enjoyed the characters a great deal, especially Olivia and her struggles. The whodunit was quite good with several twists and turns. I had a ball trying to figure out the who. Do yourself a favor and don't miss this book!
I received this book as a member of the street team and was not required to post a positive review.
Action packed, and the mystery had me biting my nails...man, I did not see a lot of this coming like...wow!
Characters: Olivia was a nice character and enjoyed her growth even if it felt a tad bit rushed. I also wanted to see way more of her and Charlie together, but their text conversation at the end had me cracking up...lol... Wade was a nice character, very sweet. Amy was a dear little gal. I just wanted to give her a hug the whole time! The other side characters were great. The villains were just plain creepy, and it was such a fun ride!
Themes: Not letting fear control you, handing them to God, and trusting Him with the outcome. Very beautiful woven in.
Language: N/A
Romance: A few kisses, nothing too detailed.
Overall: This book had me reading so fast! I just had to know who the stalker was and how everything would be resolved. The case just kept getting bigger and bigger...stretching back a lot longer than anyone realized... like, wow! It was insane... but also just a great read! And can I say Quinn is becoming one of my favorite characters...lol...he's so blunt and no nonsense and sarcastic. I kept help but like him! (Reminds me of my sister, though she's a lot nicer...lol...)
This one was really fun! Even if I question why this bodyguard agency seems to have employed exclusively women, I really enjoyed this plot, and Amy was absolutely precious.
Though I didn't appreciate the "oh my g-". Cut off or not, that shouldn't be in a Christian book.
Every time I read a book by one of my favorite authors, I'm always hopeful that the newest book will live up to my expectations. I'm thrilled to say that Always Watching surpassed every expectation that I had for a new book from Lynette Eason. So what did I love so much about the book?
1. A strong female lead. It seems that the majority of suspense fiction features a strong male lead with a damsel in distress who needs rescuing. I certainly enjoy many of those stories, but it was nice to read a story featuring the female lead as the "rescuer." Plus, it added a great dynamic where the male lead needed to be protected but also wanted to do the protecting. Lots of tension there!
2. Intriguing relationships. Because of the tension between the protector and the protectee, it made the development of the relationships very interesting. I also enjoyed meeting Wade's daughter and seeing her struggle through the craziness that unfolded around her.
3. True suspense. At any given time, I had 4-5 suspects. Every time that I thought I knew who the "bad guy" was, I quickly realized I was wrong and began to rethink things. And no one was "cleared" until the very end when the culprit was revealed.
4. Strong faith element. Wade was an excellent witness of true Christian faith. Through conversations and the way he lived his life during extremely trying circumstances, his faith was evident to everyone around him.
Overall, I thought this was an amazing book. I honestly thought it was Lynette's best yet and am looking forward to reading the next books in the series!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review.
This book starts with action, and the pace never lets up. At the same time there is great characterization and enough romance to make romantic suspense readers happy. This may be my favorite of Lynette's books to date. A very enjoyable, fast-paced, twisting plot.
Lynette Eason has crafted a romantic suspense that literally sprints from the first page to the last. This book is packed with adrenaline, twists, and enough questions to keep the most stalwart suspense fan turning the pages. Olivia Edwards is a bodyguard who's assignment has just become Wade Savage when his prior bodyguard was critically wounded. His stalker is upping the stakes and there are serious questions about whether Olivia and her team will be able to keep Wade and his daughter safe. This looks like a typical stalker case, but as the layers are peeled back it becomes so much more. Add in the hint of a romance that blossoms as the case progresses, and it is a very satisfying read. I also loved the surrounding cast of characters and knowing that many of them will reappear in future books.
This is the first in a new series, and Lynette truly gets better with each book. I always think the last one I read was the best...until the next one arrives. Be prepared to disappear for the hours it takes to read this novel. It's that good!
I am a huge fan of Lynette Eason's books, so needless to say I was thrilled to get an influencer copy of her brand new release! Obviously I had some very high expectations for this book and I was most definitely not disappointed! I really liked both Olivia and Wade as well as Wade's daughter Amy, but I think my favorite character was Katie, I can't wait to read her story in Without Warning when it releases later this year! The suspense in this book was amazing, Lynette Eason's tagline is "Welcome...to the edge of your seat!" for a very good reason, whenever I read one of her books I know I'm in for a non-stop, action filled ride in which the pages fly by and this one was no exception, I read it in less than half a day, it's that good! This new series is great, I found it very interesting to read about an all female bodyguard agency, such a unique storyline for a series! I highly recommend Always Watching, if you enjoy non-stop, thrilling and chilling suspense combined with sweet romance and wonderful faith stories you NEED to read Lynette Eason! You won't be sorry.
A big thank you to Lynette Eason and Revell publishers for sending me an influencer copy of this book in exchange for my review. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own
Olivia is part owner of a company called Elite Guardians Agency. They provide protection to high profile individuals. Wade Savage is a psychiatrist and radio personality who has a stalker. At first the gifts and notes seem innocent. But after it gets personal, Wade's father hires the Guardians to protect him. When things get ugly, Olivia finds herself racing a clock to protect Wade and his family from the unknown stalker. She's also in danger of losing her heart, and now is not exactly the right time for emotions.
I really enjoyed this story. The suspense and drama was high, the concept of woman body guards was intriguing, and the conversations between some of the characters was entertaining. I didn't connect with some of the characters like I usually do with this author's books, but overall this didn't detract from the book for me. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, but since this is the first book in the series, I felt that it was to get everyone introduced in preparation for the next book. Overall, I liked the book and look forward to the next one in the series.
I received this book free of charge from Revell Reads in exchange for my honest review.
Lynette Eason just confirmed why she has a place as one of my favourite suspense writers.
Another page turning suspense that kept me reading and guessing, together with great characters and interesting relationships made me find myself reading whenever I had a chance.
Lynette always keeps me guessing. The culprit was one of my suspects but she threw me so much that I never was certain if my guess was correct.
I loved Wade’s confidence and trust in God. Lynette also provided us with characters who had to deal with some difficult fears in Olivia and Amy.
I loved this book and looking forward to the rest of the series!
I picked this book up for free because some other had reviewed and really liked it.
While it was exciting and somewhat hard to put down, there were also things I didn’t enjoy. One– I didn’t like all the dead bodies, the blood, guts, and murders that are involved in this story. Some of the excitement was fine, but when people are getting murdered, or almost murdered, with some details, I don’t enjoy the story as much. Two– I knew who one of the villains was as soon as they made their appearance and it really bugged me that no one did checks on either of the villains. There was no suspicions and no surveillance on anyone close to the main character. Come on, why aren’t you looking into EVERYONE? Three– There was some good leads for Olivia to get right with God, but it was hardly mentioned when it happened. I was waiting for something that never came. Four– While there was some Christianity in the story it felt sprinkled in instead of a vital part of the story. Five– The bodyguards didn’t seem really smart or too good at protecting. True, this would be a difficult job if you don’t have full cooperation from those you are protecting, but still, there were some things that could have been avoided.
Some things I did like: I did like that Amy was pointed to God in her panic attacks (though since she had them so often it made me wonder what health issues she had). For the most part the romance was light and didn’t focus on the physical attraction. This was a clean read. At least as far as no swearing.
I won’t be reading this book again–once was enough for me–but I might read another book by this author, though maybe not this series.
Sometimes it can be so hard to find authors that are also Christians. In a world where there is so much secular writings and secular shows, it has been amazing to stumble upon Ms. Eason and her marvelous works!
"Always Watching" is an amazing novel written by an amazing author! I have an amazing respect for body guards, police detectives, and all law enforcement personal! They place their lives on the line for us each and every day, no matter what the consequences might be for themselves, and never ask for anything else in return! In "Always Watching" we see an individual willing to take bullets, bomb blasts, and house fires to be able to save a man and his daughter! If you need a good suspense novel, this story is the one for you!
This is my first novel by Lynette Eason and I must admit that I am hooked on her work! For someone to be able to write mystery novels that keep you on the edge of your seat, but to also write them in a way that glorifies our heavenly Father.. Remarkable!
I really liked this book even though I had pretty much figured everything out by about fifty pages or so. The creepy factor was a medium so while still managing to scare me a ti y bit, I wasn't too freaked out. I loved Wade and Olivia's romance 😍. As most of Mrs. Eason's books, this one manages to keep the romance and mystery well-balanced which is very appreciated from this reader :D The only reason for the .5 star knocked off was how easy the guess-ability factor. I am super stoked for book #2 and I'm checking at my online library right now for it!
I really enjoyed this book. I was a bit sceptical about this book since I found it in a book store under Christian Fiction. I don't usually read Christian Fiction so I was not sure how much I would like it. I enjoyed the story line and all characters. I really liked Olivia and Wade. I think it was a good way to bring me into this genre to read more books. It did get "Christian Fiction" at the end but I didn't mind it because it was not what I expected. In my mind, it could have been very "preachy" but this book was not, but this is my first one by this author and in this genre. I did really like the fact this book is very clean; meaning no cursing or sex scenes. That was a breath of fresh air sometimes I never know what I am going to get. I look forward to reading book number 2!
In my opinions, Eason's writing has improved since 2016, but I'm opting to round this up to 4 stars because there are some strong things about it. Eason writes 4 book series which each focus on one of four women who are friends and sometimes colleagues either in the book or previously. As the series name suggests, the women protagonists are elite guardians, all with top notch training and backgrounds that gave them prior skills as well. There are some good twists in this and it's as fast paced as any good thriller combined with romantic suspense should be. This one features Olivia Edwards, a former cop.
Such an exciting start to the series! I love the idea of an all-women security/bodyguard firm and the tight bond the women share is wonderful. Olivia is a former detective who’s always had issues with trust and loving people due to childhood trauma. Wade is a grounded man of faith who seeks to help others through his psychiatry practice and radio show though he’s also been through repeated trauma. The plot is fast-paced and action filled. The suspense ramps up with each chapter and the villain is quite elusive until the very end. A great romantic suspense that you won’t be able to put down.
Always Watching is Ms. Eason's latest romantic suspense novel. As an avid reader of all things Ms. Eason, I was ready for the tough female lead and the suspense. She always packs suspense in spades that takes my breath away. So, I'll start the review there.
Oh. My. Wow. Yes, y'all the suspense was that great. The number one thing I loved about this book was trying to guess who dunnit. Olivia is hired to be the bodyguard for Wade, a dj/counselor (SN: smooth voice alert), who has a rabid female fan.
Y'all there were so many messed up females in this book that EVERYONE seemed suspicious to me. I didn't trust anyone outside Olivia's bodyguard agency. Do you know what does to a reader? Makes for an EXCELLENT read. I had to keep reading and I had to figure out who dunnit. I had my suspicions, but really it didn't come together until that critical moment in the novel where breath is suspended and nerves are stretched tight. Of course when the stalker is revealed, I realized how much sense it made, but the shock was still present. Bravo, Ms. Eason.
Now for the romance part. Because really what's a Lynette Eason novel without the warm, fluttery heart stopping moments? In the face of danger is it smart to become romantically interested in the man you're supposed to guard? That's what Olivia has to decide. Ms. Eason did great dropping moments of intrigue, blushes and wishes in the midst of the suspense. I think it was well timed and I liked that the ending leaves room for possibilities of a sequel in Olivia and Wade's relationship...because don't we all want a chance to revisit a couple we fell in love with?
