Rock Royalty #5

Wishful Sinful

Rate this book
Years ago, Rolling Stone magazine dubbed the nine collective children of the most famous band in the world "Rock Royalty." Now all grown up, the princes and princesses are coming back to L.A.'s Laurel Canyon to discover if love can be found among the ruins of a childhood steeped in sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll.

CEO Walsh Hopkins relies on his admin Honey Brooks as his "second brain." He trusts the efficient young woman with everything--from his company secrets to his social calendar. When a business conference at a beachside resort comes up, of course he assumes she'll be by his side. But he's taken aback when his dependable assistant balks at the chance to blend work and pleasure.

Honey Brooks has been crushing on her boss for years. No way does she want to torture herself further by spending time with him in a romantic surf-and-sand setting. But he overrules her objections and under the tropical sun their platonic boss-secretary relationship takes a drastic turn. They promise each other that upon the return home their relationship will return to normal too... But some promises are impossible to keep.

I read books 1 and 2, but skipped 3 and 4 before reading this one. I'm finding myself a little out of sorts with the length of these books - not quite full length novels. This one is 14 chapters. So you get more story development than a novella, but the ending still feels a little rushed. The story revolves around a single trip, after which the resolution and marriage proposal happens almost immediately. I think I missed a bit of relationship background development by not reading 3 or 4 before reading this one.

I love the premise of the series. I'm trying hard to really love these books, but I'm finding myself distracted by the dom/sub elements that I don't care for.

Thanks to CR's California Girls for an ARC of this book.

My favourite so far as it is a tight, well thought trough story. I usually cannot stand the boss/subordinate storyline as I have been sexually harassed in the workplace but as I saw this relationship coming in book three, I was able to deal with it.

One of the things I appreciated about it is that the conflict within it was organic, realistically a part of the story and not forced as it has been in a couple of the previous volumes in the series. All of the boys had shady experiences growing up in that compound but I doubt any of them experienced what Walsh did. There are some things we learn about him toward the end of the book that I hope will be developed in later stories.

There was also more action, less exposition, more showing and less telling.

Set up for future volumes was minimal and I deeply appreciate that. Beck seems to be making contact with Reed but something dark is happening with Brody.

There were a couple of minor point, however, and as I am the very walking definition of pedant, I must mention them.

In previous volumes, we know that the tribe gets together for potluck twice a month. Ridgway seems to think the word for twice a month is “bimonthly.” It is not. “Bimonthly” means every other month. A professional editor should have caught that.
At the beginning of chapter four, Honey is wearing a navy pants suit for the flight to Mexico. By the time they land in Mexico and are in the limo, despite the fact that she hasn’t changed her clothes, she is wearing a skirt which conveniently slides up to tantalize Walsh with a glimpse of a firm and toned thigh. While I have no objection to tantalizing Walsh, I strongly object to an author not keeping her details straight. This is still chapter four. I get it in the rush of writing, an author might forget details. But surely authors read what they’ve written? Surely authors have editors whose job it is to catch such lapses? Because I don’t ever want to think I am reading an unedited first draft which was only subjected to spell check and lacked the attentions of an editor.

I used to read this author years ago but tastes change. However, I did read the first book in this series which was a free download and it wasn't that good but I decided to give the series another go when this one was also offered as a free downlaod.

It reminded me a lot of a Mills & Boon storyline. Honey is Walsh's 'Admin' and is in lust/love with him. I found it odd that in Walsh's internal monologue he often referred to Honey as 'Admin', not by her name?! Also odd when they begin a sexual relationship it suddenly turns all Dom/Sub..that seemed to come out of nowhere!

It was a predictable storyline of Walsh being afraid of love and commitment but finally realising what was right in front of his eyes all along!

Wishful Sinful (Rock Royalty Book 5)

Absolutely love Christie Ridgway's Rock Royalty Series! Wishful Sinful, Book 5 is wonderfully sexy and engaging. Dubbed “Rock Royalty,” the rock group Velvet Lemon has nine progeny among the three of them. As each of them begin to find the HEA they thought would never happen for them due to their upbringing we become involved in the logical and pragmatic CEO Walsh Hopkins. He refuses to allow passion, love and emotion to rule him, or so he tries… His assistant, Honey Brooks, has tried to keep their relationship on a professional level but after two years she begins to struggle with keeping her feelings contained. When things heat up and attraction is revealed, Walsh suggests they indulge their mutual attraction while on vacation in Mexico. Afterall, MexVegas…
Passionate, sexy, hot! The characters are real, complex, well-developed and endearing. You will find yourself alternately frustrated with Walsh and cheering him on to grab to happiness!
The progeny of the Rock Royalty are a fascinating loveable group that you just can’t get enough of!

Christie Ridgway has written another great book in the Rock Royalty Series # 5. Walsh is the middle son of the Velvet Lemons drummer, Hop Hopkins. He owns and runs a business called MadSci. Honey is his secretary and has worked for him for several years and been a very diligent and dedicated employee. Walsh would be lost with out her. Honey has had a secret crush on Walsh. After a few akward events Walsh starts to realize that he also has feelings for Honey as well.

So Walsh make a decision that he is going to force Honey go with him to Mexico to help sign a business deal so he can better understand what is going on with there relationship at work and in there personal lives. What they didn't realize was that there attraction in Mexico was getting really HOT. Now they have to decide what are they going to do with this attraction. Is it worth all that is at risk

I really enjoyed this book and i kind of really connected with Honey charecter and her desire to protect her heart .

I received this as ARC from the Author.

This was the 5th tale in the Rock Royalty series- romance stories about the children of the fictional rock band the Velvet Lemons. In this story, it's businessman Walsh Hopkins' turn to fall in love with his assistant, Honey Brooks. The characters were fun and I enjoyed how their relationship evolved during a conference at a Mexican resort. I did not like the dominant/submissive sex play that the author used in this novel.

This reminded me a bit of older romances ...
I thought the hero was something of a clueless ass and needed a slap of reality to the face ...

The jealousy was nice (I've decided I like jealousy but not possessiveness -and at some point I'll explain that...)

So it was nice that he has to freak out a bit and Honey is strong - poor girl - she takes a lot, and I was kinda hoping she'd get together with the silver fox, but I guess that was not to be. Alas.

I accidentally missed the first four books in the Rock Royalty series from Christie Ridgeway but that didn’t take away from my enjoyment of Wishful Sinful. Walsh grew up in a hedonistic household with a rock god for a father and the other members of the band living life to their best. That left the children of the band to try and either raise themselves or live the life their parents are living. Walsh took a different approach and now tries his hardest to live an ordered and rigid lifestyle. He’s has help from his ever efficient assistant, Honey, but he’s caught a glimpse of her after hours and all of a sudden Walsh is thinking all kinds of dirty thoughts about Honey. Honey has always had the hots for her boss but knows he’s a love and leave ‘em kind. She’s looking for more and doesn’t want to ruin the good thing she’s got working for him. When a work trip to Mexico and some lost luggage lead to a whole different kind of vacation, Honey is ready to try something new. But sooner or later they will have to head home. Can Honey and Walsh find happiness going back to what they were or can they find happiness opening themselves up to something more? Fun read!

It was my first book by this author and I didn't expect a series, but it was not difficult understand the family relations.

The plot was nothing I haven't read many times before: CEO discovers during an out of town meeting that his mousy PA is a gorgeous woman and falls for her.

What put me off a little bit was the constant mentioning of rock royalty, the princes etc.

York Featherstone, aged late forties, and his niece, aged 30, were nice supporting characters. But why does the author call him an old man? Because of his white hair which is unusual for a man that age? Late forties is medium, I would refer to late sixties as old and then his white hair might reinforce that.

Honey's siblings seemed quite immature, with 17 they should be inured to the livelong parent's quarrel and fights.

This book was not my cup of tea.

Cute story

The story was cute though the character development is a bit uneven and the story arc doesn’t flow smoothly. It feel like bits and pieces are missing, a bit jumpy.

The formatting is awful. You go from one scene to a totally different person, place and perspective from one paragraph to the next. It’s very jarring and takes a second or two to re-orient yourself. I hate things that take me out of the story. Even additional spacing between those paragraphs would be helpful. Better would be some sort of separation or the start of a new chapter. Needs better editing and proofreading as well.

I'm a big Christie Ridgeway fan and I continue to enjoy this series. Celebrity kids are often in the news, with their unique names inspired by fruits and nature. If you're like me, occasionally you wonder if they can find true love and meaningful friendships, despite the paps and excesses. In this series Ms. Ridgeway shows us how a HEA might come about for a group of these kids.

It's a fun read, with lot of smolder and heart. I like it!

Rock Royalty wonderland again! Another of the Velvet Lemons progeny who's determined that "LOVE" is just not for him. Stoic, sexy as sin Walsh simply doesn't see his destiny sneaking up on him. After all, for 2 years Honey has been the epitome of staid, predictable and organized. His un sexually attractive assistant. I always love the way Christie Ridgway turns the tables in her books, especially for the Rock Royalty books.

This fifth installment was the first for me of this series and indeed this author, so it was initially a little tricky catching up with all the characters and back stories but I stuck it out. So glad I did. It was a sweet love story. One of the things I dislike in romance books is how characters tumble into love without actually knowing each other so it was so refreshing to have characters who were intimately familiar with each other without an intimate act.

I really love this series but just never felt a connection to Walsh. I think it is the Boss/worker trope I just don't like.
The story had its cute moments and it moved the series along.
I'm really looking forward to Brody's story next and can't wait until I get to the last book and find out what is going on with Beck.
Please tell me though we are going to find out who the other girl was in the photos when they were kids?????

Nice easy quick read with some heat. Honey and Walsh were both in denial, they were great together and their developing relationship was fun to read. This is a book in a series but I found it easy enough to follow without having read the other books, but I am now intrigued or read more.

I found the very first part of the book pretty confusing as it launched straight into the story with no preamble. Of course, had this not been the first book I had read in the series, it wouldn't have been a problem. I am glad I persisted because the story was engaging and reached that happy conclusion I needed.

I honestly tried to make some sense of it all.
But after reading chapter 2 I realised that I had no clue what I just read.
It is such mess and chaotic and confusing that it didn’t make any sense to me.

The ‘Ugly’ Duckling that stomps all over the heart of her rich, uptight, sexy boss…

I did receive an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Walsh Hopkins is about to get his comeuppance and her name is Honey Brooks. In the 5th book of the Rock Royalty series, Wishful Sinful focuses on Rock Prince, Walsh Hopkins. He’s the only one of the 9 progeny of the Velvet Lemons to go to work every day in a suit and tie, lead a somewhat quiet lifestyle, be a workaholic that is solely focused on his career (he’s CEO of a company that invents military grade ‘goodies’) and pretend that he is not affected in any way by his past growing up in the Velvet Lemon Compound. This past, by the way, would make the Playboy Mansion’s escapades look like a Disney park! However, as his other crib mates are starting to realize, their past is pretty tightly woven into the people they’ve become today and Walsh’s reckoning will come in the form of his assistant Honey Brooks. To be more specific, the hot pink yoga outfit wearing Honey Brooks, lol. (It’s a GREAT opening scene!). Honey is normally outfitted in ill-fitting and even more unflattering business suits and glasses and fills her role as Walsh’s right-hand man to perfection. She’s now causing him and his libido havoc forcing him to confront his desire for the person he never wanted to admit to wanting. Walsh is big on control; losing control of his emotions is as much a no-go to his personality as it would be to lose control of his business. A business meeting in Mexico, however, will test his boundaries on control.
Honey Brooks is a firecracker wearing a brown paper bag as a cover. She has absolutely no desire to accompany her super-sexy boss to Mexico. There is no way she will manage to keep her crush a secret in a tropical paradise with only a few people around them. Fate however, has seen to it that she accompany Walsh (and lose her luggage so that only the bikinis and wrap skirts of the hotel boutique are available to wear). Honey actually comes to realize this is her chance to be herself, not worry about pressures from family or from work. I think she comes to realize she’s been hiding her true personality and in coming to this realization, she opens herself up to Walsh. Mr. Control is not holding up so well, himself and its funny how he is the first one to bend in this new bond with his assistant. The relationship sizzles as even though Walsh shows a sweeter side, he is still all about control when it comes to the bedroom. If you’ve read Payne’s story and thought it was hot then you’ll want to read about Walsh and Honey!
I absolutely loved this story and it is not all wrapped up nice and sweet from this moment they vacation in Mexico. There is plenty of uncertainty in play between these two and my 5 star rating comes on the heels of a most AWESOME ending! I won’t spoil it by giving a hint other than it rates up there with ‘Say Anything’….
This book is part of a fabulous series but can definitely be read as a standalone.

I am always a fan of the boss/secretary romances, and for the most part, this one reminds me of the typical category romance for that type of story, except that Walsh has noticed his admin Honey just as much as she has noticed him, he just didn't want to act on the attraction. Apparently, despite the rest of the Rock Royalty seeing him as kind of an iceman, Walsh is pretty much just as much of a playboy as the rest of them, just with a different approach. Honey has no desire for her boss to realize that she has a crush on him, especially considering his dating habits and his past reaction to workplace romance, and would rather quit her job than go on a business trip to a resort in Mexico with him, where the more casual environment might reveal her feelings. Things come to a head when Honey is coerced into the trip, and they decide on the typical "vacation affair" approach to dealing with their pesky mutual attraction. I enjoyed the story, especially since there was a little less drama overall (no dead bodies this time!).

I was glad to see a little more of Brody's story creeping in, but it is really starting to drive me nuts that there isn't more about that mystery kid and Ren's strange memories. I am still finding it weird that nothing has come out of that yet and I really hope that we learn more about that soon. I am also getting impatient to learn what exactly is going on with Brody and with Cami, so I hope that their stories are coming soon.

One thing I am noticing with these Rock Royalty stories, and maybe its just me, is that the transitions are sometimes very abrupt. One paragraph, you are reading one scene taking place on a particular day, and the next paragraph takes place at a later time. I am used to formatting that either has some blank space or some kind of asterisks or something to make it clear that there is some kind of transition taking place. I have found myself clicking back and forth a couple of times to make sure I didn't somehow skip a page. At first, I thought maybe it's a difference between reading eBooks and print books, but after thinking about it I'm sure that I've read others that do have that same formatting in place. It makes it a little confusing, and I hate taking the time-out to double check that I didn't skip anything because it kind of takes me out of the story.

I should also mention that I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It seems to be just another day or should I say installment in the lives of Rock Royalty’s Velvet Lemons children. As with the other books in this series we not only watch as another person grows up and face his fear of the past but we also get a glimpse into what is happening with the others helping to pave the way for the next story. I like this as it makes everyone more like family and less like characters. It also makes for more complex characters. The interaction is strange and very odd at times but they do care for each other as family should. Another good read from Ms. Ridgeway.
Walsh and Honey have that boss/assistant thing going on. They both have secret feelings for each other but don’t act on them. We met Honey in an earlier story she wanted to quit because she needed to help her twin sibling’s deal with issues at home. I liked her from the start because she downplays her looks and is very family oriented. Walsh was a little cold but that seems to be typical for most CEO type characters. They tend to be all about work and making more money. Walsh though is a little more geeky then most but still very handsome.
A trip to Mexico (which has Honey wanting to quit once again) changes things for this reluctant couple. First of all Honey’s luggage is lost making it convenient for her to change her drab image. Although if Walsh had any brains he would have seen past her plain non-descript clothes a long time ago and acted on his attraction. But, it takes the trip to Mexico, the beach and lost clothing to push these two together. They think that a vacation fling will help with their mutual attraction and then they can just go back to the way things were. Not going to happen.
As we watch these two overcome their issues they are finally able to move forward on a more personal note. They do get a little more personal than some readers like but for Walsh and Honey it works.
Another hot and steamy romance from Ms. Ridgeway this may border a little on a light BDSM level but it works for Walsh and Honey. Once again we watch as they overcome the past fighting those demons only to find that one person that is able to unlock the past allowing them to become free.
I have really enjoyed getting to know Rock’s Royalty yet I still have a lot of questions that I would love to have answered maybe soon. I think if you are just picking up this series you will find it light hearted and fun. As always you can read this as a separate book but it really helps reading them in order. They have a way that they flow from one to the other. They weave each family member together. Their family unit works.
I am off to grab something more to drink and settle in for the next book.

Walsh and Honey have avoided their attraction for two years. They work together so well that they did not want to risk that relationship. Walsh had a tough childhood as the son of a musician raised without much parental support and doesn't really trust in love. He prefers facts and lists. Honey had a bad childhood too with parents deeply unhappy and making their children equally miserable. They are still doing it and she has tried to be there for her teenage siblings. It hasn't given her much time for love.

They are both having a harder time ignoring that attraction. When Walsh wants Honey to come on a trip to Mexico with him, she would rather quit than embarrass herself by revealing her feelings. He won't accept her resignation and his family convinces her to go and take a new wardrobe too.

I enjoyed their time in Mexico where they both let down their inhibitions and act on their attraction. Walsh likes to be in control and Honey enjoys letting someone else be in charge in the bedroom. They think they can do it temporarily and then go back to their old relationship but it is no surprise when that doesn't work out too well. They are going to have to make a real decision and take a risk.

I have read similar storylines used and it is all about the characters as to how enjoyable the story truly is for the reader. The characters made you root for them to get over the pain their parents caused and take a chance on love. They were good people who really cared about each other but were protective of themselves due to the pain others had caused them.

I always enjoy seeing the other members of the family meet up and support one another. There are more hints about what is to come for some of the others who have not found a love of their own yet. I look forward to their stories.

I received a copy in return for a honest review.

Christie Ridgway has written another great book. This is the fifth book in the enjoyable, cunning Rock Royalty series. After reading the story of Walsh Hopkins and Honey Brooks, I can't wait for the rest of the series.
Walsh is the geeky, middle son of the Velvet Lemons drummer, Hop Hopkins. He is a workaholic who owns and runs a business called MadSci. Walsh doesn't believe in leading with your heart, he wants to think everything through. When he realizes that he's attracted to Honey, he decides it's time to find a wife. Unfortunately, he treats this task like business and makes a list of the qualities he wants.
Honey is Walsh's very efficient assistant. She has a massive crush on Walsh, but she hides behind glasses and baggy, drab clothes, so he doesn't notice. Honey believes in true love and she wants passion and romance, even though her parents weren't great role models.
When Walsh demands that Honey accompany him on a business trip to Mexico, she agrees, but not willingly. Honey's suitcase doesn't arrive, so Walsh buys her some bright, colorful, clingy clothes, unlike anything she would ever wear, and she starts to feel like a new woman. Walsh stops thinking only about work and he starts to enjoy both Mexico and Honey. They agree to a vacation only fling and then they'll return to their normal boss/assistant relationship, but they can't seem to leave their feelings behind.
If you haven't started this series yet, I highly recommend getting to know the Rock Royalty.

My Review:
A mix of petulance and an abundance of immaturity lends quite a bit of drama to the story. Its a mini novella full of well detailed history and a cast of characters that keep you plenty entertained.
