What if bad guys ruled the world and the good guys were the outlaws?
The war has begun. The MC’s of Mars are fighting against the corrupt government and their archaic rules: Women are used for breeding, dark skinned men are slaves and homosexuals are executed. Whip is the kinky club member who is the best with current technology. He has the task of hiding out at Harley’s Hover Car Parts to monitor the government. He never planned on finding out the sexy ginger Harley had a crush on him. Whip isn’t like most men. He grew up with a harsh father that taught him early how to torture people. Whip turned that horror around and now he can’t live a vanilla life. He has whips and cages and toys that would make any sane man run.
The city on Mars becomes a battle for the future of our species. But the battle between Harley and Whip is just beginning. Will these two men find love with balls and chains?
I'm a masturbation expert (true story, I'm single) and I write unique stories. If you're looking for a plot that hasn't been done before check out my books. I currently write m/m but one day I'll venture into m/m/f territory. I'm bi-sexual. I love animals and I've always wanted to paint nude men. Feel free to friend me on Facebook or Goodreads.
**I get so many emails from people who are surprised I read hetero when I’m gay. Well, I’m actually bi and yes, I read many genres. Reading to me is an escape. I’m not at work, staring out the window wondering what the sun would feel like on my face. I’m reading about another world, up in space, vampire or shifters, even just another place on this planet. Hetero, gay, bi, whatever. All that matters to me is the effort that was put into a story and how the characters work to entertain me. **
I read this book. I read this book twice. I’ll read this book again because dammit, a kinky COX has become my favorite flavor. I’ve been dying to read Harley’s story ever since he was introduced. He’s an Irish ginger who supports the MC’s by running guns and ammo for them on the sly. He may not be a full-fledged member of the MC’s but he’s definitely on the inside. I knew he was going to hook up with one of them eventually but I really didn’t expect it to be Whip.
Whip has a bag full of kink he carries that serves to both amuse his libido and comfort his soul. Whip’s got a rough past and could have turned into the very thing the MC fights against, but instead he’s one of those strong characters who learned what not to do from his past instead of perpetuating the evil his father tried to teach him. “It was scary to look in a mirror and see the man you feared staring back.” His childhood did a number on him though. The man is incapable of vanilla so needless to say, between his need to dominate and the war against oppression on Mars, poor Whip doesn’t get to do a lot of hooking up.
Whip needs to get to Harley’s place and set up a tech hot spot so he can get eyes and ears on the Peacekeepers and report back to the MC’s. He sets up shop in Harley’s basement and at first Whip doesn’t think Harley is very happy to have him there, but after checking in with his brothers he gets a bit of intel that Harley may be a little bit, nay, a lot, interested in Whip. What comes next are some seriously hot fucking interactions. Literally. And this is what I loved about this story. These two and their kinks are a perfect match and they both recognize how amazing that is. But, and this is what I love about the COX and his stories, they don’t get ridiculously mushy about it all. The sweetness is tempered with humor and snark. James knows how to drop a little nugget of sugar and walk away. He gets the point across in a realistic way so it actually sounds like a real conversation I can believe in.
“Morning, Luv.” “Love, huh?” “Aye.” He straightened. “Ya don’t like it?” “I pulled the blanket away and stood. “I like it a lot.”
It’s not a lot, but considering the pressure they are under and the fact that they are still in the middle of Kinkville and crossing the border slowly into the land of Feelz, it’s pretty damned sweet. Reading about Mr. Kinks-a-lot having a sweet side with Harley, a man who appreciates him and embraces his darker side, made me swoony. The planned attack on the government building is executed and it was well written and exciting to read.
There is added pressure in that the Earth prison is being abandoned and Lover is still there serving his sentence. Poor Outlaw is still a mess and will not rest until Lover is back with him. It squeezes me in the heart when Outlaw (Knox) refers to Lover by his given name, Liam. That was kind of a big deal in book 2, Underneath his Armor, and it’s those little things that make this series more than just sexy, action, sci-fi.
I usually like to share a quote to end a COX review, but this time I want to share a ‘moment’ instead. Why? Because s’hot, that’s all the reason anyone needs. Harley’s foreskin was scrunched back showing off his rounded head and a pearly drop. I swiped at the pre-cum with my finger and then brought it to his lips. The cloudy liquid smeared on his upper lip and then his lower making them shine. Then I kissed Harley. We shared the taste of him as I pulled our bodies together.
OK, I totally lied to you, here are a couple of my favorites from #6
“The last time he was a clean-shaven ginger with freckles on his cheeks that I wanted to trace with my dick.”
“The guys are waiting to say goodbye.” I rolled my eyes. “You do realize for badass bikers, leaders of the resistance . . . we hug too fucking much.”
You’re welcome.
ETA: WAIT!
Holy Fook! How could I forget the cock cage? Who does that? I’m so disappointed in myself. Anyway, Dear James, can we get a scene with the cock cage since that thing happened with those guys and the stuff didn’t happen? (That’s my version of covering a spoiler ) Please??? OK, spanksyouverymuch.
This book wasn’t on par with most of the others in the series. There isn’t a lot of interaction between MC members, only a few moments of Cox’s humor (trademark, I would even venture to call it), and the usual efficient character set-up wasn’t there. I could sense it, though, as both Whip and Harley (whom we’ve encountered briefly before) piqued my interest. Even on that point, however, they were more interesting on their own than together. For me, the chemistry wasn’t really there. It certainly wasn’t compared to just about all of the other pairings in this series.
There was a boatload of potential for this, with the war full-on, the coalition set between the different MCs, and Wexman and the peacekeepers having finally gone too far for anyone to ignore, the breaking point had been reached. Unfortunately, most of this was given short shrift in treatment. Most of it was background for Whip and Harley’s exploration of each other and the kink they learn they have in common.
Speaking of, I do like that Cox explored something here, something new that he hadn’t done previously. It does spark some moments of genuine care and surprise. It’s so easy to see some of the greatness lurking in the characters of Whip and Harley. Heck, they’re not lurking, they’re in plain view, like right behind a pane of glass while going unused. Maybe more than the fact that this is how things went down is the fact that it surprised me, given how well Cox has portrayed his characters in the previous books. All of the little details, the connections between these people, the feeling that I know their histories and the import of them, how all of that affects what they’re doing right now, these weren’t nearly as strong in this book as the others.
Whip said it best: ”My Club. My Family.”
I also like this mix of old-fashioned and futuristic atmosphere and storytelling Cox has utilized throughout this series, including this book. Simultaneously, there’s a feeling of restraint while these characters are one hundred percent unapologetic about how they feel and what they’re doing and why. On one hand, the cursing that I love is ever-present, while old school turns of phrase are used for some emotional and intimate scenes.
This book probably qualifies as erotica more than any of the others in this series so far. Most of the time is spent with Whip and Harley and all of the licking and grabbing and biting and toy usage, including something sharp.
The writing starts out a bit rough in the beginning, a bit of backsliding honestly, but starts to smooth out about halfway through. More of Cox’s clear ability to set a scene and suck me shows up, especially in the final quarter. Same goes for that humor that I love. Whenever you get the guys from the MC together, even if over long distance comms, the camaraderie shines through and their interactions feel effortless and meaningful. I also missed the plentiful descriptions of Mars!
So, after all that, will I continue on in this series? You bet your sweet bippy, I will. I want to find out what happens after the final act here, I need to find out what happens with Deviant, Tage, Outlaw, Liam, Justice, Romeo, and all the people involved. I need to know! Despite this being a subpar entry for me in the series, I’m definitely reading on.
WHIP!!!! You’re one kinky fooker! I feel like I’ve been waiting for this installment since the 3rd one. I’m so happy that it’s been written. Awesome job James!!!
Let’s get down to it, stall we. The war is in full swing and the MC’s don’t have a strong enough signal to tap into the government’s technology for leverage. Guess which member gets to branch out? Yep, Whip! He’s sent to Harley’s (loyal MC supporter) to hide out, tap into the government’s technology and stay under the radar. Little did he know that he’s been on Harley’s radar for some time now. I have to admit that even THAT one surprised me.
Whip has his kink that has become a necessity for him. Will Harley join in or be completely turned off? Whip’s back-story is probably the worst one I’ve heard so far, and that’s saying a lot. I really enjoyed reading these scenes. They were very thought out and described in such a way that I actually felt like I was there watching. Oooo, now that could get interesting…
Not gonna lie. It took a second to figure out how to read Harley’s fookin’ ascent, but then it became so easy, I actually forgot about it.
Oh yeah, the war. Well…it’s still going strong and now there’s a new development that might change the way Outlaw thinks. Hopefully he thinks with the right head.
*I was given a copy of this book as a gift from The JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review.
Now this is what I'm talking about! Flogging, whipping and paddling are three things which will turn an impact bottom into a wet puddle. Add in suspension bondage, knife play and temperature play and the bottom cruising into subspace. At least I would be. In this latest addition to the series, Whip finds his match in sexy redhead Harley. This story can be read as a standalone. It works better if a reader reads the previous stories.
Whip is a sadistic bastard who sleeps with his "tools". As a MC, one would think it would be knives and guns. No, it is a whip, cane and paddle. This is my kind of dominant. Because one never knows in the morning if a little impact play is needed for a good morning wake up. Most of the MC are hesitant to engage with Whip because of his kinks. He is afraid of scaring off potential lovers with his needs. Honestly, the BDSM in here is not intense or hardcore. Everything is more or less possible and realistic. None of it is too intense. It's just right to get an impact lover a good buzz and relaxation. Harley is the sweetest character. Redheads are a favourite of mine. This blushing quiet one is surprisingly resilient and matches each of Whip's strikes with a breathy moan. The sex in this story is erotic and memorable.
The pace to this story is a bit slow. There is a little progress with MC beating the corrupt government. The plot is fine but it does take a back seat to the sex. I'm fine with this because Mr. Cox writes some spank worthy m/m erotic scenes. I can visualize the bondage and each hit. I have established that I can be bribed with good kinky sex. This story does it for me. Recommended for m/m readers who enjoy whips, floggers and paddles - oh my!
The tension continues to increase in this installment, as the united MCs continue to increase the pressure on the corrupt Mars government. When driven into a corner, their leader recalls the guards from Earth, leaving the prisoners exposed and Outlaw more worried than ever about Liam, his lover stuck there until they can free him. While all of this is going on, one of the more mysterious members of the Outlaw MC finally gets to tell his story - and some of the secrets Whip divulges made me shudder.
Whip is kinky, but the reason he became that way is very sad. Luckily he can find a guy who loves what he has to dish out - and wasn't that an unexpected match! I think I was as surprised as Whip to find out that Harley, a man who has helped the MC for years, is more than interested not just in Whip as a man, but in Whip as a very kinky Dom. The stuff they get up to between blowing up yet more buildings was very hot.
If you like this series, if two men who didn't expect to fit but seem to be made for each other are your thing, and if you're looking for a read that combines revolutionary zeal with kinky playfulness, then you will probably like this novella.
NOTE: This book was provided by Evernight Publishing for the purpose of a review.
I’ve got to say it, in case anyone was wondering, I still love this series. Every installment gets us closer to the completion of the story.
This installment switches to the Treasurer of the Outlaw MC of Mars, Whip and the owner of Harley’s Hover Car Parts, Harley, who you will remember has been the supplier of motorcycle parts, guns and explosives throughout the series. Whip is the son of a famous Peacekeeper who was known for his brutal torture and killing of slaves and prisoners. Once his father was killed, Whip quickly switched sides and has been with the Outlaw MC for quite some time. If you remember from the 5th installment, the three motorcycle clubs are outside the city having blown up a row of buildings to build a wall against the Peacekeepers. Unfortunately, they are being jammed on communications, so someone will have to return to the city. Whip is also the leading expert on technology, so the one that will have to run the secret monitoring station.
When Whip gets to Harley’s garage to set up the station, things rapidly heat up between the two men. But will Harley be up to Whip’s very kinky tastes? What will happen when the Peacekeepers regroup? Is there hope for the MCs to win against the Peacekeepers and their evil leader?
Have I told you that James Cox writes some fine sex scenes? You won’t find any of those stupid “silent screams” that destroy sex scenes, in my opinion, in so many books in the m/m genre. James’ sex scenes are real, man on man sex. The scenes in this story cross over into the BDSM realm and they seemed realistic enough to me. I could feel Harley’s discomfort at one point when Whip disappeared and didn’t leave the key to the cock cage that Harley has on. Otherwise it was fairly mild BDSM and nothing that should bother the squeamish.
I liked this book a lot. I only have one complaint Mr. Cox! At roughly 45% Whip thinks he may be dead and floating on clouds and says that would be bad “ ‘cause that’d suck some hairy butt”. What, I might ask, is wrong with sucking some hairy butt? I’m personally a big fan of hairy butts! LMFAO. ;-)
I highly recommend this book and this series. Catch up quick. There are only two more installments coming in the series!

The war has begun, indeed. I longed for this installment like for every other in this series. And once known it will be about Whip I got even more excited. Besides learning more about that kinky, dark and sexy hunk and his passions and dark desires for handsome ginger Harley, we get to know and see how the MC's of Mars raise the war against the cruel government on the next level. Will the People of Mars follow their way to fight for their rights? They have to make their choice... This book really is kinky, sexy and full of dark passion. I loved to see the tension grow between Whip and Harley! Especially when Whip shows the sexy littel Irish that he likes it rough with the men he wants to have in his bed. And Harley being all excited over it and specially Whip, on whom he has a crush for a long time now! As Whip was send to his shop to observe the Peacekeepers from the inside seems weird for Harley at first but then becomes like the win of a jackpot. Both togehter are so steamy and hot, one really can't get enough reading about them and their sexy playtime..purrfect. And the war getting an dramatic twist and turn, well, I now really want to know how the story will end. Will there be a happy end and future for the human kind in Mars? Oh I really hope so!! And I really really really want to know if Outlaw will get his Lover Liam back in his arms! James, you did it again, I really am addicted to you and your books and your guys!!
After reading the reviews by Lorraine and Anne, what more can I say? Nothing!
This book was as hot as hell, which is well in keeping with any of James' books. I adore Whip and Harley and they are just perfect for each other.
As for the main storyline, that is ramping up well towards a conclusion. I only hope they can get to Liam in time to see everything bad about Mars come tumbling down. Then, at last, can they all live together and in peace.
Bloody well done, James! You get better and better with each book. I don't know what I'm going to do when this series comes to an end though.
We are teased towards the beginning of this story. You think one thing will and happen then told, oh so sincerely(?) that no that isn't going to be. James Cox is very sneaky that way. I loved how the story unfolded and how we got to see into what makes Whip who he is. Harley is a hot ginger and the lucky s.o.b. who gets to experience Whips kinks. Great story, flows so nicely before you know it you are rooting the MC's on and rooting for Harley and Whip to fall in love already. Highly recommend this story and looking forward to the next .
5 'I'm fucking devastated that I've run out of books in this series to read and now I have to wait' stars. I'm a bad bad waiter and I so want to know what happens with Knox and Liam and I wanna know what happens for Prospect too he needs a HEA. Damn it will just have to suck it up and wait with bated breath for the next installment of this fucking awesome series.
James Cox makes biker romance unique and hot enough to self-combust. Read Balls and Chains alone. Read Balls and Chains with a lover. Just read Balls and Chains!
Boy was this one kinky. But that's expected. Heard about Whip 'darker' side from day one, and he did not disappoint. The war took another epic step. I'm so ready for the next one!
So let me start off by saying I am a huge James Cox fan. This book is in the Outlaw MC Series. James has put together a series about where the bad guys are the good guys! And the Outlaw MC is helping the fine citizens of Mars and trying to change their ridiculous government. This is Whip and Harley's story. Whip has a past of violence he would like to get away from. Harley owns the shop that supplies the MC with parts for their hoverbikes and bomb making parts. He has a shop that supplies anyone on Mars. The peacekeepers are suspicious of him but can't pinpoint him doing anything wrong. When Whip shows up at his shop so he can monitor government things on the radio and computer, Harley knows he is in trouble. He already loves the bad boy biker. If he is going to be staying with him, well things may get hard. Extremely hard. Whip is hardcore. Needs pain to get pleasure. He wishes sometimes he was normal, or vanilla, but the fact is, he is not. When he realizes there is interest with Harley, he has no issue rising to the occasion. His dominant side comes out and Harley's submissive side let's Whip take over, well smoking hot doesn't even cover it! Sizzling hot, and mouth watering drooling may cover it better! The war is on and going strong! Can the Outlaw MC get victory for the folks on Mars? Another James Cox masterpiece! If you haven't had the privilege of reading his books, it is time to become a Cox Groupie!
I am not sure! It would be nice if we got more of the background story like who is Wexmen and how did his rule come about. Why do we only have m/m relationships? What about m/f or f/f or m/m/f??? A variety would be great. Cox's characters are all interesting men but their stories are too predictable.
It's a good read, short and quick, with lots of story. Found it to be a entertaining read with a few grammar/Spelling errors. have read twice, so it can't be too bad. Best to have all books ready to read, if you are going to read the whole series.
