Summer House #1

Moment in Time

Rate this book
This summer isn't about dying. It's about living.

Jenna Traynor has been given her life back. After two years of chemo and missing out on college life, she is in remission. Spending the summer working on Nantucket Island is a good place to start life again. Hot guys everywhere, fun times at the clubs, long walks on the beach and beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the ocean from her back porch. Living life again was the plan. And then she met Bobby...

On leave from the military, Bobby Callahan needs one thing: a quiet beach to run and train so his leg will get strong enough for him to return to his post. For the past three years the only thing that made him get out of bed was the military. He'd joined the service to get away from sympathetic eyes and worried faces. He didn't count on meeting a girl like Jenna whose thirst for life made him break out of the walls he'd so carefully constructed around himself. And once he realized she had his heart, he knew he never wanted to let her go. And then fate stepped in...

2.25, this story really could have been something. A couple both dealing with losses and the threat of disease Jenna's been fighting for the last 2 years. But because it was a Novella in length you really didn't feel their pain like you should.

Short changed novella. It was too complex a plot with a lot of angst to put in the high-speed lane. Poor choice for a plot in a novella.

I bought the other 3 novella's in the series, and I'm seriously thinking of returning them. I might give the next in the series a try when I want something quick. But not sure... usually I like Lisa Mondello, I just think she bit off more than she should have.

This was an okay quick read. Short and sweet. Always finding love when your least expecting it. Would have liked more background on the characters though. Everything just seemed a little rushed and a little too unbelievable. Also needed some better editing. Still liked the book though

Moment in Time by Lisa Mondello
Summer House Series Book One
Jenna Traynor was finally going to start living her life, at least for the summer. After two years of facing death, she was planning to really enjoy life while working away from home. She has a lot to catch up on.

Bobby Callahan was just living by his aunt and helping her while his leg healed. Then back to his military post overseas. He had no other plans but to strengthen his leg. Plans don't always go as you think. He never expected to meet someone like Jenna.

I loved the storyline in this book. Bobby's life is on hold and Jenna's is just beginning. This is the first of four books in this new adult erotica series. Jenna is staying at a summer house with three other girls while working for the summer. Lily, Penny and Heather's story will be told in the next three books; Moment of Impact, Moment of Trust and Moment of Truth.

Two broken souls make a whole.

What a beautiful start to the series. She has escaped cancer and wants to experience life. He has escaped death and is recuperating from an injury, he wants to heal. Together they find love and a new life.
Great book Lisa Mondello.

Cute story, but poorly written

This book had a good storyline, but unfortunately it was very poorly executed. It added twists that were completely unnecessary and then brushed over them and never mentioned them again. It felt like a book that was written by a VERY inexperienced author. I really hope this is one of the author’s first books and she got better with more experience. It felt like a high schooler writing a short story.

Short and sweet

That was a cute little read, written by a very seasoned writer. A full and detailed story packed into a novella sized book. Really liked Bobby and Jenna

A very good short story. Takes a good look at committed young adults. Liked the way it was told and how it ended.

Jenna Traynor has finally been given her life back. A cancer survivor, Jenna aims to do some living and goes to Nantucket Island for the summer. On her first day, she meets Bobby Callahan.

Bobby is on leave from the military. After surviving serious injury, Bobby is in recovery and trying to work on his leg so that he's strong enough to return to his post.

When he meets Jenna the attraction is immediate and a bond is formed between two survivors.

This is an easy weekend read, but with some serious subject matter. It is a short, sweet, but somewhat predictable read.

There were also a few minor typos - enough to make me notice. I'd like to suggest the author fix those because it detracts from the overall quality of this book.

If you're looking for something short, sweet, and heartfelt - pick this up.

Only about 150 pages, so it felt like it was over before it began, but it was a sweet romance.

Good, emotional story.

“When are you leaving?” she asks softly.
Her question feels like a punch to my gut. “Soon.”
“I know I don’t have any right to ask you this, but how soon is that?”
"I need to make a decision in a week. Maybe two.”
“Have you? Made your decision?”
I sigh. “No.”"

"She glares at me hard. She’s angry and I don’t blame her. What right do I have to stop her from doing what she wants? Every inch of her is heated and ready to explode. I know that feeling. I know what it’s like to want to just vanish and be gone so you don’t have to deal with the pain."

“I can’t do this to you.”
“I can’t do this without you,” he says, holding me close. “I want this moment, even if it’s awful, Jenna. No matter how much time we have together, I want it. Even if it kills us both in the end. I’m not running away from you. Not now. Not ever.”
He chuckles though I can hear the emotion he’s fighting back. “I just dare you to try to keep me away.”

Didn't finish after page 30. With this being a novella, everything felt too abrupt. Also, the first impression I get from Jenna is that she's a complainer. The first ten pages all she's done is complained about her mom and her dad. I just do not like the vibe she gives off. I did not like the first beach scene with Jenna and Bobby at all. I know the author was trying to give us a raw moment between the characters but It just felt too author contrived. And kind of awkward. Strange even because they are strangers and have little development at this point in the story. I didn't like how she acted with that. I don't like that Jenna was kind of all over Bobby right away. Obviously it's because the author only had 100ish pages to get this story out so again I don't like the novella type book. Also I don't like dual point of view writing unless it's done very very well. I know everything they both think and how they feel about each other and about everything. There's no mystery or intrigue.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Lisa Mondelo always knows how to get the most out of every emotion for me. She did it again in this book so easily and pulled me right along from beginning to end. A young girl with cancer in remission will always capture the audience, pair that up with a wounded soldier home on medical leave and you have a winning plot! Every single time this works for me!!!! The winning lines were when they decided to put everything, I do mean everything else, aside and give their relationship the test of Time, however long that may be, just because they Had to. That statement takes courage and commitment and resolution. Worth the read for me. Try it, you might like it!

Sweet romance about living you life after having cancer. Can you imagine being 18 and knowing you might not survive cancer? Well that is what happened to Jenna. After 2 years of treatments and constant hovering by her parents and doctors she is considered "cured" so she decides to spend the summer working on an Island and just enjoying life.

On the island is Bobby recovering from injuries suffered in the war. He is staying with his Aunt who Jenna is working for. He meets Jenna and lets so these 2 have so much in common.

This is a sweet romance that I enjoyed quite a bit.

I loved this story so much. I started reading it about 7pm ish and finished when I couldnt sleep at 3pm. I was so in love with the characters. How they both needed each other to move passed their own "injuries". I even cried alittle for each one. Im curious on how the roommates make their summers. More Penny, she is a mystery.
Thanks for such a great book.

I received this Arc in return for an unbiased review
This book is beautiful it is a love story that should not have been. Jenna grew up with cancer and Bobby lost so much. She comes to Nantucket for the summer and he is the first thing she sees.
They have so much going for them and just as much holding them back. There are so many feelings in this book you will need a box of tissues.

I'm not a fan of novellas because there isn't enough time to build the characters and stories. I read this not realizing it was going to be short and had that same reaction. It was a sweet love story but the plot would have been so well suited to a full length book. There was heart ache and trauma and lots to overcome and it just didn't dig in enough because it was too short. Good story though.

For once, the ratings seem to be spot-on.

This novella had potential, but fell short. I couldn't get past the insta-love, the complete avoidance of safe sex topic - it wasn't even a thought in either character's heads, and I really couldn't get past the bizarre typo/editing mistakes.

This book was good and all though it had a happy ending I felt like it was rushed. Other than that the characters and story itself was great.
