Comely widow Charlotte Kennedy is in over her head. Between running a huge ranch and keeping a cruel rancher at arms length, she doesn't need the added distraction of romance.
Colter Valley calls to Rafe Preston, who decides to purchase land and settle there. When he accepts a temporary job at a beautiful widow's ranch, he has no idea how much it will impact his plans.
Passion, deception and treachery, blend into a beautiful love story, set in 1860s Montana Territory.
Bestselling author Hildie McQueen loves unusual situations and getting into interesting adventures, which is what her characters do as well. She writes romance because she is in love with love! Author of Romance in Highland historical, Western Historical and contemporary, she writes something every reader can enjoy.
Most days she can be found in her pajamas hiding from deliverymen while drinking tea from her David Gandy coffee mug. In the afternoons she browses the Internet for semi-nude men to post on Facebook.
Hildie's favorite past-times are romance conventions, traveling, shopping and reading.
She resides in beautiful small town Georgia with her super-hero husband Kurt, an unruly boy Chihuahua Pepito and a spoiled rotten girl Chiweenie named Lola.
I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful romance. The plot is interesting and the characters are interesting and surprisingly well developed for a shorter book. I look forward to reading more from this talented author. Happy ☺reading 📚!
This is not the first book I have read by Hildie McQueen, and it will not be the last. I’ve been hooked on her writing ever since I read Where the Four Winds Collide. Whether she is writing a Scottish Highland romance, a contemporary one, or a sweet western, she will delight a reader’s heart. The Widow’s Choice is a sweet western romance with a strong heroine and an amazing hero. This is a great start on a new series for Ms. McQueen and I look forward to reading Jerrick’s story.
While getting the lay of the land before he buys a ranch in Colter Valley, Rafe Preston accepts a job working for the widow, Charlotte Kennedy, known as Charlie by all her close friends. At first the lovely widow keeps her distance, but as attraction grows between the couple, love flourishes.
When danger comes a calling, Rafe rushes in to save Charlie, but will he make it in time, or lose the only woman he can ever love?
Not only does McQueen write unforgettable characters, she writes interesting secondary characters that enliven her stories. That is the case with The Widow’s Choice, from the cantankerous Joe to the sweet-natured Mary Ellen. This is definitely going to be a delightful series centered on a cast of characters in Colter Valley, a close knit community.
If you enjoy a traditional western romance with the added benefit of a little bit of sensuality and a great “happily ever after” at the end, then you will enjoy The Widow’s Choice, as much as I did. Happy reading!
Charlie married her husband Daniel as a mail order bride. After his death, she lives alone with his sister Mary Ellen. Patrick and Jerrick, who look nothing alike, consider themselves as brothers and plan to find a place for a new start. I'm a big fan of Hildie and she continues to entertain me with all of her books. She brings the characters to life. This is a beautiful love story and I really enjoyed the side story of Jerrick and Mary Ellen. It made the book so much more.
The Widow's Choice: Brides of Colter Valley by Hildie McQueen is a story well told. I love that the main female character Charlie is not a poor me character. Life has dealt her a bad hand but she refuses to let it get her down even when faced by the town bully. I love the secondary characters Joe and Mary Ellen and the family the three have formed on the ranch. Rafe and Jerrick come along and add heat to the story. A sweet romance and a good start to a series that will have you wanting to come back to Colter Valley.
The setting is 1860 in Montana. Rafe and his friend Jerrick who are like brothers are looking to find work and buy some land to start a cattle ranch. When they end up in a little town called Colter Valley they decide to stay. Needing work they go to the Horseshoe Ranch where young Widow Charlotte/ Charlie Kennedy is trying to keep her ranch running with only and older man Joe and her late husband's sister Mary Ellen to help.
Charlie trusts no one after the trouble she has had with her neighbor Jessup Winfrow. He keeps trying to get her to sell out to him or marry him and will not take no for an answer. Sparks fly between charlie and Rafe and a romance blooms but will they be able to get past the trust issues and the threats from Winfrow??
I loved the characters and the story and highly recommend this book.
A young widow is looking for ranch hands she desperately needs for her ranch. She has been unable to hire anyone because of her neighbor who is trying to buy her ranch. Two new men come to town and go to work for her. One of the cowboys takes a shine to her and her neighbor steps up his trouble making. This is great read not to steamy but just enough to be interesting. Read about all the trouble and the good times. A must read.
Hildie writes just the best western novels. This new series has the makings of a great series and if that is any indication of things to come-wow! Another classic series I'm so excited.
If you are in the mood for a sweet love story set up in the west, you will love The Widows Choice. I really enjoyed the innocence of it. Hildie McQueen loves to write westerns as well as other genres and is very good at it. You can't go wrong with reading her books. Thanks Hildie.
It's a sweet story. Lots of potential for other books. I lived both Rate and Charlie, they didnt rush into anything more of a slow build in their relationship. Good plot, not too drawn out and good development of other characters.

Loved this book. The author does a wonderful job weaving the story in a way that kept me turning pages. I'm really looking forward to the series of books to come.
