When I was a teenager - back in the days just prior to the meteor strike that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs - there was no such thing as 'YA' literature. Back then, once we'd emerged from our caves, we had to make the giant leap from Enid Blyton to 'proper' books (like 'Biggles Flies Undone', or whatever). So I figured recently, I should maybe take a belated jump into the whirling hormonal pool of adolescent angst, aka teenies literature. Purely for experimental purposes, you understand.
So, eschewing J.K. Rowling, I cast around for a suitable guide and settled on Olga Nunez Miret, whose (adult) psychological-based mysteries I have much enjoyed.
'Pink Matters', Book 1 of 'Angelic Business', certainly contains all the elements I think I would have wanted to see in a novel back in my teenage years. Alienation (and a sense of life's unfairness, and a questioning as to who or what they really are) is a key obsession among the young, as is a desire to be in some way 'special'. 'Pink Matters' harnesses this yearning. Pink is an ordinary girl with an ordinary crush on a guy who doesn't have a crush on her, until... she's not so ordinary any more. Pink's encounters with a demon and an angel propel the story into a magical/paranormal dimension, and suddenly the girl's obsession with matters trivial (like boyfriends) is no longer so important.
The author has put together a narrative with clever hooks to draw in her target readership, and created a protagonist to root for. What more could any YA lit. fan want?
Strongly recommended for the young and young at heart. And maybe some who are not so young.

This book is absolutely incredible. I love the storyline. Although this isn't the type of book I would typically read, I did enjoy this book overall. I am amazed by how this book turned out. The characters were all great and were described well and the plot was very unique. This book was really good and I honestly never really wanted to put it down. I will definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes to read fantasy novels.

A pdf version of this novel was provided to me by the author in return of an honest review.

I listened to the audio book of Pink Matters. The reader had a pleasant reading voice and I enjoyed the narration.

Pink Matters is a fun and easy to read YA novel about a teenage girl who suddenly finds she has gotten more than she bargained for when she befriends the interesting new male student at her school. Pink sees herself as an ordinary girl with no outstanding or special talents or characteristics. Her best male friend, Seth, is a bit of a tease about her status as a single girl. She decides to get even with him by entering into an agreement with the new boy, who goes by the unusual name of G, to pretend they are dating. In return G wants a bit of help from Pink. Pink is intrigued by G’s proposal that they work together as it involves helping people. This is something that appeals to Pink and she thinks that by working with G she may be able to assist in bringing about positive changes to peoples lives. Pink decision to work with G results in her getting embroiled in an interesting and unexpected stand off between representatives of Heaven and Hell. Pink also manages to bring her two best friends along for the ride.

The author perfectly describes the insecurities and anxieties of teenage girls who are trying to fit in and find their place in the world. Pink’s fascination with G and his interesting and less than perfect character traits are typical of a girl of that age. The important’s of supportive friends and parents is also highlighted in this story. The supernatural elements in the book worked well and did not seem unlikely or far fetched. I almost felt this situation could arise, the writing was so natural and easy going.

I found the style of the book engaging and I was really rather put out when the story ended. I need to find out what happens next and I have already bought the next book in the series called Shapes of Greg.

“Angelic Business: Pink Matters” by Olga Núñez’ is a very entertaining and light-hearted teenage story about ‘Pink’, an ‘average’ girl who finds herself suddenly the focus of angelic, demonic and human attention.
Her friend Seth, a good looking and arrogant boy, needs to be put into his place after making some insulting remarks. As if by magic, help arrives in the shape of ‘G’, an interesting newcomer to the school who just might be the person to help her make Seth jealous (or at least see that he is not the only man in Pink’s universe). Only, there is something spooky about G. Now enter Azrael, another mysterious figure and you have a great set of players in this teenage drama.
Yet, there is depth to this humorous story as theological themes, such as God, angels and demons are discussed and pondered about. Although this is kept on a superficial level, the way that the angels, demons and theological ideas are presented gives you something to think about. The tone is playful and tongue-in-cheek and added to my enjoyment.
The characters and the narrative are well crafted and while this might be aimed at young adults, I had a great time reading it and am looking forward to the next parts to see where this is going. Very well done.
I was given an ARC in exchange for a review.

Angelic Business 1 Pink Matters is book #1 in this #YA series involving Angels and Demons. Petra is an ordinary teenager who prefers to be called Pink, she's not part of the "in" crowd and someone most boys tend to see past. She'd like to mean more to her friend Seth, but he insults her by offering to be a sympathetic date should she ever need one.

Together with her best friends Sylvia and Lorna, Pink hatches a plan to make Seth jealous and it's more than a coincidence when new boy G turns up at school and refuses to be interested in any of the popular crowd.

Pink can't quite believe that G has only eyes for her and she's very doubtful about his intensions. It takes a lot of persuading for Pink to accept his word and even then the goal posts keep moving and she is left angry and confused.

At times the storyline is slowed with repetition of events and conversations. The tale will continue in the next book.

I got sucked into this story immediately and felt like I was reading a teenagers diary. The story is clever and easy to follow. Angels and Demons for YA.

The main characters, Pink (or Petra), is a funny, quirky kind of girl who is a duckling waiting to become a swan.

G is a lot of fun and the way he gets her attention is great. I like the idea of someone hovering outside windows now instead of climbing into them all the time or turning up unexpected.

At times, there was some repetition, but that only made me feel like I was in the head of a teen.

I got this book on a free promo and I really enjoyed it. A great start and it definitely left me wanting for more. I wonder what will happen next.

The first book in Olga Núñez' Angelic Business trilogy is available now for pre-order on Amazon. I was given an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. Pink Matters is a lighthearted look at what happens when an angel and a demon (fallen angel) each vie for manipulative control of a 17-year-old girl named Pink. Well, O.K., her real name is Petra because her father was into archaeology, but she prefers Pink and everyone, including her teachers, call her that. Pink and her two best friends, Lorna and Sylvia, are fairly ordinary, average girls who happen to be excellent students and therefore are not part of the "in" crowd, made up of cheer leaders and other gorgeous girls, and football players and other sports heroes. But the most popular member of the "in" crowd is Seth, who happens to live next door to Pink, is gorgeous, but thinks of Pink as a sister and has an unfortunate habit of putting her down with thoughtless remarks. The night he called Pink to pick him up from a party because he was too drunk to drive home was the worst. This time, she's determined not to let it slip by; she's going to get revenge. The best way? To get a pretend boyfriend and show Seth that she's not pathetic. The new boy in town, G, looks like he'll fill the bill. But when he tells Pink he's really an angel, it's just a little too much for Pink to swallow. Matters become even more complicated when another angel, Azrael, shows up and claims that G is not an angel at all. He's a demon. When Pink thinks that G has saved her mother's life, has she sold her soul?

Núñez' characters are totally believable and diverse. The story deals with many areas of teenage angst which always seem larger than life when you're in the middle of them: stress of getting a date for the ball, fear of pregnancy, moral issues, jealousy, and concern for who to trust. Despite some tense life and death moments, the theme is actually full of lots of humour as Pink tries to sort all the new information she's being bombarded with and the strange situations she finds herself in. As long as you don't take the theology as more than just fun, you'll really enjoy the story!

***** A Unique YA Read!

It’s no secret that many teenage girls fret over not being part of the “in crowd.” Perhaps they are a tad overweight; perhaps their hair, clothes, and make-up do not mesh with the latest trends. And we certainly have read good YA books all about that. But here, Olga Nuñez Miret manages to give us something more.

In her fine, ANGELIC BUSINESS: 1. PINK MATTERS, what plot-wise starts out as a trio of adolescent girls, clinging together out of loyalty and shared comfort zones, soon blossoms into something much deeper. The main protagonist, Petra, or “Pink,” is good friends with not only her gal-pals, but also a handsome, popular sports hero at school who seemingly takes her for granted. Suddenly, she is given an up close and personal look at alternate reality. More than that, she is asked Socratic Method style questions about the universe and the very meaning of life, and what part she herself can play in it.

With great adolescent bantering and important themes, such as male protectiveness/rivalry and the belief in one’s self, this work turns what might have been a typical YA book into a unique and intriguing one; a book that kept me thoroughly absorbed throughout. Highly recommended!

I was given a pdf copy of Pink Matters from Olga Nunez in exchange for an review.

This is a light hearted, entertaining YA. Strong points: humour aimed at a teenage audience, believable dialogue, and two opposing characters G, Gregarious, and Azrael. I liked the demon/angel aspect of the novel this added an extra element into the YA story line which worked well.

There tends to be a high proportion of dialogue in this novel which may well appeal to a teen audience. I would have preferred a little more description of places, etc, but possibly that's just me being an old fogey!

Who can Pink trust? Obviously her best male friend has upset her but what about G and Azrael? And what price will she have to pay to save someone she loves?

This is part of a series so more to come of Pink, otherwise known as Petra.

An Unusual Tale of Angels!

Angelic Business is book one of this unusual trilogy of angels and demons or fallen angels. Petra is the main protagonist who dislikes her name and prefers to be called pink.

Pink likes Seth who only thinks of her as a friend. She and her two best friends, Sylvia and Lorna, decide to try to make Seth jealous so he would notice Pink differently. When a new boy comes to school and seems to be interested in only Pink the girls put a plan into action using the new boy G as bait. G turns out to be more than an ordinary boy who has an agenda of his own.

This is a nice beginning to a different kind of tale about angels and fallen angels. Young adults will enjoy the interchange between Pink and G and the surprises and complications that G brings to Pink's mundane life.

It was the stunning covers of these books (by Lourdes Vidal) that drew my attention, and when I read they were about fallen angels I had to read them all.
The first book, ‘Pink Matters’ did not disappoint, with its interesting, well portrayed characters, all make you need to know what happens next.
Well written, with humour and wit, you find yourself wondering if you have met these characters before. As you get to know them well, you slip right into the story, almost as though you belong there.
This book was faultlessly presented, and sets you up perfectly for the next one, ‘Shapes of Greg’ … when I suspect everything will get a lot more complicated.
Bring them on…

A thoroughly enjoyable sequel to the first book in this series. The appearance of a new demon in Pink's life and his conflicts with Pink, as well as G (who's been reassigned, but can't seem to stay away) make compelling reading. Plus there's Azrael, who's supposed to be good. So, why is it I don't quite trust him completely?

With the stakes as high as they are in this series (we're talking all of existence!) and the notion that it all depends on Pink, it'll be interesting to see how things play out in the third book of this trilogy.

This is the story of Pink, a regular 17 year old girl . When two guys G and Azrael appear in her life, they claim they are angels, one, G is a fallen angel; they both insist she is needed; they each have their own agenda.... but the thing is, it's never clear why. The book is written the way one would write a journal... and it gets repetitive and made the book long and painful to continue.
The plot would've been good if it were more precise and not so vague and all over the place; making it seem this girls personality and boy problems are the main focus.

Struggled to get through

Hated Pink during the entire book. Very annoying personality. I felt the book was a mix between US and UK verbiage. Stick with one or the other. The setting was in the US, but words such as mobile, telly and bloke were used. Wording felt off.

I received a mobi.file which contained ALL THREE volumes of this Young Adult Paranormal series from the author through a giveaway on Marie Lavender’s FaceBook site and the following is my honest opinion.

While the purist might say this book needs to have some editing done; I found the author, writing in the first person of the book’s protagonist, Petra aka “Pink”, adds a certain charm to both the narrative and dialogue in each of the book’s three segments.

In Volume 1, we’re introduced to “Pink”, as Petra prefers to be called. Pink, who although is not one of the prettiest girl at school, she’s smart and has plenty of resources available to her.

When Seth’s asks for an insincere date with him, while she adores him, Pink and her friends seek some revenge for it.

But things begin to chance when two new and mysterious boys [one of them is called “G” who Pink come to her school, they say they’re angels on a mission and tell Pink she’s very special and the key to the survival of the universe. Naturally, given she knows her place in the hierarchy at her school, she’s quite dubious and skeptical. However, this changes when both Heaven and Hell arrive at her doorstep.

Once you’re drawn into Pink’s personae, you’re drawn into the story itself and are eager to turn the pages to the last page of this segment, and can’t wait to begin reading Volume 2.

In Volume 2, Greg’s assignment has changed, luckily since Pink gad gotten tired of his interference in her life. The tug-of-war between Heaven and Hell continues to increase with Pink playing the part of the rope. Pink learns the price which had been paid for the resurrection of her mother; she’s in mortal danger since Hell is not known for losing graciously. With angel in her life who has his own agenda, and a demon who has no idea of when to give up and surrender. Pink’s life has become more complicated than ever. And with one of friends on a quest to find the perfect man to be in her life, and her other friend in a secretive relationship, Pink’s life can never be the sane.

Volume 3 has an Armageddon is afoot and Pink whether she likes it or not is at the center. Both the envoys of Heaven and Hell are getting closer and closer to Zero Ground and to her home which is something she can no longer sweep under the rug as if it meant nothing. Pink knows she can’t go down without a fight and she has loads of stuff she must do, like helping her family, figuring out who her true friends are. Everything is coming to a head; past romances, loves, etc begin to be fulfilled, there are new challenges which creep up, and emotions are running amok. What the upshot of everything is, I can’t reveal; it’s for you to find out when you read each of the books in this series.

For an interesting and fun reading experience I’ve given each book in this series 5 STARS.

Promising, but falls short

I found the story line intriguing, but it slipped throughout the book. I found it frustrating the dialog between G and Pink. It seems like the conversations were half empty and confusing.

An interesting book with strong characters and a different storyline to the YA books I've read. You can't help but like the strength of Pink as you follow her through speculation and confusion over two guys who may or may not be telling the truth! Great story.
