The Third Bewildered Be good to your husband, your lord. Treat the servants well. Never speak unless asked to. Since birth, these were the lessons Sylvain was taught. Now she has been called to the king’s court to see if she will be suitable to become the wife of Lord Parish, the king’s cousin. But when the king desires her for himself, she must face the reality that she may become his third queen despite how much her heart yearns for Parish. Will she rise up and challenge the strict gender roles of her society and pursue the desires of her heart. Riveting author, Heather Choate, masterfully weaves a tale of suspense, drama and romance in the first book of The Third Queen series.
Heather Choate was born in Littleton, Colorado. She now lives in a small town in Southern Colorado on a farm with her husband and five children. She chases chickens, declares war on the weeds in her garden and enjoys quietly people-watching. Most of her time is spent daydreaming of worlds and people that don’t actually exist, but reflect the beauty and complicity of humanity. Writing is her escape from diaper changes and runny noses but motherhood is the greatest journey and joy of her life.
This book was only 52 pages long, so I didn't expect much as far as depth, but I still managed to find it disappointing. The heroine barely spoke in the entire 50+ pages (she literally only spoke a few words). Very little seemed to happen, and as soon something of relevance did occur, the book just ends. I didn't go into this expecting it to be a "serial" type of read and I'm not a fan of those. Needless to say this wont be a series I continue.
I enjoyed this story about a brave man and woman who fight against all odds - and royalty - in a struggle to stay with their true loves. Highly recommend.
