I picked this book because truthfully, I wanted some fun “trashy” (said in the most loving way possible) romance. This book had some elements:

- Our FMC Iris is somehow the only person Ayla can trust and will be completely vulnerable with her
- Plot holes explained away by the supernatural (the hive learning language different than humans, the hive makes a magic honey that causes pleasure and can cure anything, etc)
- Iris deciding to stay in the jungle because she loves Ayla and completely abandoning everything she knows w/out a second thought
- Immediate connection with no lore building between the two

But I found the “eco horror” to be lacking as well as the spice. It is there, but I feel from what I read in the description, it would be more graphic or at least more detail.

I was not expecting this book to be a plot heavy book based on description and length, and I did not pick it for that reason. But what I did pick the book for it did not accomplish either. Unfortunately, a shame all around.
