I love these dramatized editions soooo much!!! This Side of the Grave was bad ass from beginning to end, there were very humorous moments between Vlad, Cat, and Mencheres, my favorite portion of the whole series was in this book (I'm looking at you Marie!), the ghouls FINALLY get what's coming to them, we get foreshadowing of a future couple (which I totally nailed BTW), and Cat bites back. Rawr.
This Side of the Grave is one of the best books in the series. After all of these years and multiple re-reads, I still love the Night Huntress series with every fiber of my being; even if it didn't end the way I'd hoped. Getting dramatized editions more than a decade later is icing on an already very tasty fucking cake.

THIS SIDE IF THE GRAVE has always been one of my favorites of the Night Huntress series. 🐈⬛ & ☠️ are finally on solid ground after the turmoil of the last couple books. They’re united against a foe, Gregor 🧟♂️, who we were first introduced to in a previous book. And if the ghouls are involved then of course we had scenes with the 🧟♀️👑 herself, Marie/Majestic. Plus we get some fantastic friend time between everyone’s favorite 🔥 thrower, Vlad, and 🐈⬛. All in all the book is a great tale of friendship, loyalty and skillful manipulation.
The full cast narration was fantastic as usual. I’ve read/listened to this book numerous times however when it came to a certain sad scene… well, let’s just say it hit differently 💔😭 with the awesome background sounds that GraphicAudio includes in their productions.

Cat and Bones are back, and this time the chaos comes with politics, power shifts, and very bad decisions made for very good reasons. Cat’s new abilities threaten a fragile supernatural balance just as vampires begin disappearing and rumors of a species war ignite tensions between vampires and ghouls.
The stakes feel high and personal, especially with innocent humans caught in the crossfire. Teaming up with the ghoul queen of New Orleans is as dangerous as it sounds, and the uneasy alliance adds delicious tension and intrigue. Cat’s growth—both powerful and unsettling—brings real emotional weight, while Bones remains lethal, loyal, and impossible not to love.
Fast-paced, action-packed, and full of sharp banter and looming consequences, this installment kept me hooked. I only wanted a touch more breathing room before everything exploded—but honestly, the nonstop chaos is part of what makes this series so addictive. 🩸✨

Still absolutely captivated by this series. Loved the extra time spent on Vlad and Cat. Even Mencheres, Vlad & Cat. It’s sweet to see the friendships and the change in Cat. While I did miss having more Bones, Vlad more than makes up for it. Totally understandable why he got his own set of books. He’s a great character. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

This Side of the Grave (Dramatized Edition) is a graphic audio published by the company Graphic Audio and written by Jeaniene Frost, based on the fifth book in her Night Huntress series, This Side of the Grave. Vampires are going missing in this installment of Night Huntress, and Bones and Cat make it their business to find out where the missing vampires have gone and what's happened to them. Bones and Cat find out that there is a ghoul trying to incite an interspecies war between vampires and ghouls. With no other choice, the couple seek help from the Queen of Ghouls and New Orleans, Marie Laveau (who is based on historical figure Marie Laveau, a Black herbalist and midwife practitioner of Voodoo from New Orleans.)
I love the dramatized editions of these books because this was action filled, emotional, and overall really entertaining! This was very good in terms of keeping my attention and being entertaining so that made this listening experience "mostly" enjoyable. There was a sexual assault in this book that was played off for laughs and I found that to be uncomfortable and disappointing. I detailed more below under spoilers, be warned that it vaguely talks about sexual assault.

There were spicy scenes in this but they were weird, and by that I mean for some reason I'm giving the spicy scenes NEGATIVE 1 chilies -🌶️ out of five chilies.
Overall the story was interesting but I'm knocking points off for the sexual assault bit, it wasn't funny because sexual assault is never funny (and this would have been a 5 star review without that bit). I'm giving this 3 out of 5 stars.

Basic Plot: Vampires have been disappearing, and it's up to Cat and Bones to stop the war being stirred up between ghouls and vampires before things get worse.
I continue to think that there a ridiculously large number of ghouls and vampires compared to the rest of the world's population. I mean, seriously. There are tons of the buggers. And they're still a secret? Hrm.
The plot surrounded a very charismatic (yet physically repulsive) ghoul trying to stir up ghouls against Cat because she used to be a half-vampire. (Re-read Addendum: In 2014 when I first read this book, i was baffled by this concept. Then Trump happened. I'm still baffled by it, but now I know how possible it apparently is. Sigh). I do find it amusing that everyone in this world is gorgeous except the bad guy. Happily, though, Tate does seem to have given up and that is no longer an issue in this book. The characters are who they are, and there's no difference there.
Overall, not bad, but too many of these in a row and I get bored with them. The series is decent, but not the end-all, be-all.

I enjoy these stories but I am going to admit that they kind of blend in with the rest of the series. If you are not careful you may skip a book and not even realize it till you are about 30% in. That is what I did. I doesn't help that the titles are so similar to one another.
I set this series aside and picked them up recently when the graphic audio dropped on Hoopla. It had been almost half a year since I read the last book so I didn't notice I skipped a book. Yikes!
Anyway, the graphic audio is great as always and the stories are fun for the ride.
