Dr. Josh Compton had obsessed for more than three years about stopping the serial killer known only as The Ghost. But that monster was always two steps ahead of him. The hunt was starting to take over his life. The only thing that mattered to him was his position with the Complex Crimes Unit of the FBI:PAVAD division and stopping The Ghost.
And then The Ghost decided to come after him...
Dr. Kelly Reynolds spent most of her time trying to figure out just where she fit into the new normal she'd found in St. Louis, with the FBI:PAVAD division and the family she'd reunited with. With the friends she was making. Maybe she'd eventually open up enough to let a few of those friends in...if she didn't fall victim to a crazed serial killer first.
Josh would protect Kelly with everything he had, even if that meant staying close to the woman who only saw him as a friend...
Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).
Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?
In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!
Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.
She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.
She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.
They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.
I enjoyed the first few books in the PAVAD series they were filled with drama and suspense and edge of your seat action. The sex scenes were young adult but the stories didn't need more.
The first book with Georgia and Hellbrook was so intense...from the very beginning I was on the edge of my seat. Not only were they trying to track a killer but someone else was targeting them?!?! So exciting. And the passion between the H & h felt more real.
But around the 4th or 5th book it started to feel like all of the stories were the same. Someone within the FBI or PAVAD was a bad guy or one of the agents were being stalked by crazy psychopaths. I'm disappointed to say that after 10 books I only remember 2 stories standing out as different from the others.
But all in all these are good books and easy reads because they are uncomplicated with enough action and suspense to keep your attention. Plus, the relationship with not only the H & h but everyone on the team plays out so closely you can't help but love them all.
"Ghosting," is an engaging fast paced read. The characters are well written and realistic. The storyline is enervating, quick and engaging. A read straight through novel.
Book 10 in the PAVAD series, is one any romantic suspense reader will truly enjoy.
I've read a LOT of the books in this PAVAD series, so I know the background on most of the characters and cases. Heck, I'm pretty sure I own at least 14 or 15 of the books?! I've read like Books 1-8 in order, then picked up some of the later ones, but I was finally able to come back to this one. Ms. Brookes' romantic suspenses always keep me interested, even when they're riddled with grammatical errors. That's been my one pet peeve with all of her stories--a dire need for an editor/proofreader. However, with this story, I must say that I was more disppointed with the storyline. It was too long and drawn out and very anti-climatic. Hearing about "The Ghost" serial killer here and there throughout the series, and how much Josh really wanted to catch this killer, I thought this book would have a little bit more action and crime solving that is so characteristic of Ms. Brookes' romantic suspenses. Over 70% of the book was spent on Kelly being confused about her feelings for Josh and her having to be convinced to give him a chance. Also, can we have a villain who is NOT connected to, or in law enforcement for once?! This one just wasn't anywhere near as good as the others plot wise.
Eh. I didn't love this one. I felt like I was missing a bunch of backstory. It felt very disjointed and seemed to be riddled with continuity errors.
It probably doesn't help I've never really liked either Josh or Kelly and this book did nothing to change my mind on them.
The plot was paper thin in this one. There wasn't much mystery or investigating or anything really. Just romance. Wishy washy romance. I didn't really see a connection between either of them. It's all based in past actions which I can barely remember.
I wish this series was a bit more standalone actually. There's just so many characters and they're all so interrelated that it's doing my head in. But it is what it is.
Regardless, these books are generally a fun read with a bit of crime and mystery and romance and while this one was a bit of a dud, the series overall is a win. 2 stars.
I really enjoy this series storyline, but the extremely poor proofreading in all these books is very frustrating. Sometimes the errors make it difficult to follow the story. More time and thought needs to go into cleaning the work. Is this part of original book or with Kindle?
Doing this review after reading a bunch in a row, and I can't even remember what this one was about. I'm pretty sure Kelly annoyed me, though. I do remember thinking that for a character to be consumed by tracking a serial killer, we saw very little of the Ghost, or Josh's attempts to track the Ghost. At something like 80% of the way through we finally get around to it.
One outstanding aspect of Calle Brookes’ work is the uniqueness of her storylines. True, they are almost always about one of the many specialized units in the FBI. But the stories she weaves are powerful and they draw you into the story. Whatever you are expecting, forget about it. Brookes will take you on a unique ride. Enjoy!!
There was a lack of continuity not found in previous books. It was like large portions had been edited out, leaving missing gaps of vital information. The flow of the story was off, often repeating previous events or skipping ahead. Needs rewriting to smooth.
I have been waiting to get to this book in the series. This was a great storyline understanding Josh and Kelly plus finally solving the Ghost case. Excellent book as always!!
I just finished reading this book and it was awesome from beginning to end! The characters are interesting and the dynamic between them was captivating.
2⭐ Sadly my least favorite of the series to day, unfortunately the main male character just rubbed me up the wrong way and I could not enjoy the book, which is sad because the female was awesome in this and previous books in the series!
I have enjoyed the previous books in this series despite small grammatical errors they all seem to be plagued by. Unfortunately, the errors were worse in this book, and the writing style was repetitive. In the other books, I could overlook the errors because the stories and characters were really good. This story was severely lacking in action until the ending, the romantic chemistry was just mediocre. My favorite characters from the previous books were mentioned by name but had no impact on the story or dialog. Honestly, I am pretty irritated because this was not a cheap book, and it did not progress the series at all. I totally could have skipped it. I have noticed the author quickly turning out several PAVAD spin off story's, I wish she would allow down, get back to true suspense stories with fully developed storylines rather than the completely unbelievable and not at all creepy Amazon of a serial killer from this story. Also, a much lower price or some serious editing would be helpful. The PAVAD series has been an automatic buy for me, but it won't be after this book. I seriously hope the author will get back into the style of the great stories like Georgia and Hell, Carrie and Seb, and Paige and Mick.
This is the latest and one of best of Ms Brookes' PAVAD series. 5 stars. And definitely a keeper. I have loved all the books in this series so far, all have been edge of the seat crime thrillers and romances with a lot of heat without the crazy TMI sex scenes that some authors find so appealing and I find appalling. The criminals are strong individuals with seriously wacked out issues, and the men and women of PAVAD do their best to stop them in their tracks. A great read, and one of the few series that I will be keeping for rereads, I like them that much...
Kelly falls cautiously in love. the serial killer called the ghost targets her. ends happily for Kelly. I enjoy this series a lot. Reread today and still loved it.
