Thirty-eight, plus-size, and told my whole life I bloomed too late to matter. The three alphas next door disagree.
I gave up on this.
You're supposed to present at eighteen—willowy, desirable, swept into some fated-mate fairy tale. I'm thirty-eight, soft in all the places the magazines don't like, and my body just… never did the one thing it was supposed to.
So I stopped waiting. I built a good, quiet life above a good, quiet bookshop.
Then my heat finally arrives—twenty years late.
And the three alphas on my little street are suddenly paying attention.
Sully owns the shop downstairs and says everything in grumbles and small, undeniable acts of care. Jonah is sunshine in a person—and he's done being everyone's favorite. He wants to be chosen. Asa barely talks, but he's been quietly making me things for months.
They don't see a woman who bloomed too late.
They see a woman worth the wait.
And when my heat comes and all three of them are there—patient, greedy, mine—I stop apologizing for taking up room.
I take all of it. I take all of them.
A low-angst, high-heat reverse harem with a plus-size, late-blooming heroine and a grumpy-sunshine-quiet pack who worship every inch of her. Full HEA.
Romy has built her entire life around being the helpful one, the useful one—the woman who puts everyone else first and herself last…if she remembers herself at all! She runs the coffee counter at the Rookery, where she knows all the regulars and has their coffee ready before they even place their order. What she doesn’t seem to notice are the three Alphas who have been watching her for months—or perhaps she notices and simply pretends their attention is nothing more than kindness. At thirty-eight, Romy never presented when she turned eighteen. So, when a sudden fever hits, she naturally assumes she’s coming down with the flu. Imagine her mortification when she discovers she’s actually experiencing her very first heat! Luckily for Romy, there are three Alphas nearby who are more than happy to lend a helping hand. Sully is the grumpy bookstore owner, seemingly born with a permanent scowl plastered on his face. Jonah is the sunshine boy, the one playing loud music in his record store and always ready with a joke and a smile. But beneath all that brightness is a man desperate to be chosen for more than just a day. And then there’s Asa, the quiet fixer who brings broken things back to life and leaves anonymous little gifts for Romy without ever making a fuss. I absolutely loved the gentle, patient way these three men helped Romy through her first heat, but even more than that, I loved watching them claim her. Once these men decided Romy was theirs, there was absolutely no going back! Romy has always been self-conscious about her size, but these three Alphas? They couldn’t get enough of her. They adored every curve and made damn sure she knew it. They showered her with attention, slowly building her confidence and giving her the space to discover what she wanted, and, more importantly, the confidence to actually ask for it. Watching Romy blossom from someone who constantly put herself last into a woman who could finally recognize her own wants and needs was one of my favorite parts of the story. But here’s where I run into the same problem I’ve had with Piper Kane’s books before. The stories themselves are wonderful—heartwarming, romantic and deliciously spicy—but the execution often lets them down. This one, in particular, felt like it desperately needed another round of editing. There was a fair amount of what felt like padding, with descriptions being repeated far more often than necessary. The Rookery, for example, gets described repeatedly and eventually I felt as though I could have given someone a guided tour myself! Then there were scenes and details that seemed to reappear later as though they’d never happened. Jonah’s oral scene was one example, later repeated and making it sound as though Romy hadn’t already experienced it. There was the fundraiser that somehow happened twice, events taking place on Tuesday night only to be followed by Tuesday afternoon, Sully’s twenty-year tenancy mysteriously reduced to twelve, and Jonah suddenly acquiring a beard despite there being no mention of one during an earlier intimate scene. And that’s just scratching the surface. These inconsistencies might sound minor individually, but when they kept cropping up, they became increasingly distracting and repeatedly pulled me out of the story. I also struggled with the constant references to Romy’s size. I genuinely loved how much all three Alphas adored her curves and how they helped her feel desirable, but we really didn’t need quite so many reminders about her softness, her weight, or how much they wanted every pound of her. And, please, can we have a little more variety in the breeding rhetoric? I can handle a little “made for breeding” and “made for me to fill,” but by the end I was ready to beg for a thesaurus. 😂 Usually, I can grit my teeth, overlook the rough patches and let the story carry me along. Unfortunately, this time there were just too many of them, and they kept dragging me out of the romance. Which is such a shame, because underneath all those problems is a genuinely lovely story. Romy, Sully, Jonah and Asa have a relationship that is warm, tender and spicy, and I adored watching Romy find her confidence and realize that she deserves to be cared for just as much as she cares for everyone else. So, as I said at the start, this is a really great story that is sadly let down by the editing. And if a revised version ever appears, I’ll happily read it—because the potential for those five stars is definitely there. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Three alphas chose her long before she learned she was allowed to choose herself.
At thirty-eight, Romy has built a life around being useful, dependable, and easy to overlook. She feeds everyone, fixes what she can, and expects nothing back. Then a late omega presentation changes everything, and the three alphas beside her stop letting her dismiss months of devotion as simple kindness.
Sully loves through gruff certainty and quiet acts of care. Jonah is all sunshine and praise, but underneath it is a man desperate to be chosen when the fun is over. Asa barely speaks his feelings because he has been building them into the world for months. Their desire is intense, possessive, patient, and deeply focused on making Romy feel wanted in the body she spent years apologizing for.
As the bond between them deepens, Romy starts asking instead of waiting and receiving instead of immediately giving back. Sexual exploration becomes part of that transformation, giving her space to trust her own hunger, take up room, and believe that pleasure doesn't make her demanding. Each choice teaches her that being wanted can feel safe, mutual, and completely her own. When the life they've built together is threatened, belonging stops being something she can treat as temporary.
Romy grows into someone who trusts her wants without shrinking them. Sully learns to put words behind the devotion he has always shown. Jonah begins believing he can be loved without performing for it, while Asa's quiet caretaking becomes an unmistakable language of intimacy. Together, they become a pack built on mutual choosing, body worship, reassurance, possessiveness, and the freedom to be fully wanted.
An ultra-steamy, why choose, omegaverse romance with a late-blooming plus-size heroine, three devoted alphas, body worship, breeding kink, knotting, and found family. It's about self-worth, desire, belonging, and learning that love doesn't have to be earned through usefulness.
The Elevator Pitch: At thirty-eight, a woman who built her life around needing nothing discovers her body has other plans, and three alphas have been waiting for her to notice what they already know. Their devotion forces her to confront a harder question than desire: whether she can accept being chosen without shrinking, apologizing, or earning her place first. As heat turns into intimacy and a quiet life becomes something worth claiming, she begins to understand that blooming late never meant blooming alone.
Overall Rating: 4/5 Spice: 5/5 Genre: Omegaverse PoV: 4 characters: Sully, Jonah, Asa, and Romy I received an advance review copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Thoughts: Late Bloom by Piper Kane may appear to be your typical Omegaverse romance at first glance, but looks can be deceiving. Kane takes the familiar elements of the genre, the fun, the heat, and the unique dynamics, and adds something that is often missing: mature characters and healthy relationships. This was such a light and fun read, making it a great palate cleanser between heavier books, but it also stands perfectly well on its own. I especially enjoyed how the characters showcased what it’s like to have different personalities and perspectives within a relationship while still communicating openly and healthily. Their relationship felt refreshingly mature, with all characters making an effort to understand and respect each other. Kane definitely brings the heat in this book, but somehow manages to balance all that spice with plenty of sweetness. The romance never loses its softer side, which made the story an enjoyable and easy read. My one complaint is the overuse of certain phrases throughout the book. After a while, some of them became noticeable enough to pull me out of the story. Overall, Late Bloom is a cute, spicy romance with mature characters and a healthy relationship at its center. If you’re looking for something fun, light, and steamy, I’d definitely recommend giving this one a try!
One piece of advice GET COMFORTABLE 😊! Romy has taken care of everyone known as the useful one, the dependable one, the one you call for everything, she is a barista everyone loved her because she exactly how they liked their order, not only that it was ready before they even ordered, and she rarely if ever thought about herself or took care of herself. Three alpha’s watched month in, month out Sully, the sexy as all get out but grumpy bookstore owner, Jonah sexy as all get out alpha who wakes with a smile generally too happy too early in the morning but wants someone to see past the smile record store owner, then we have Asa sexy as all get out amazing man who can fix anything but very quiet likes leaving gifts for her without a need for thank you, all three of them have been watching their omega running the coffee shop showing her kindness exists, they knew she presented late so no other alpha wanted her, and when her heat hits well they make themselves known. When Romy assumes she has the flu they know better, explaining she is in heat, her very first and all three alphas are happy to assist her. As we all know once alphas choose to make you theirs well that is it they make sure to make her feel good telling her she is perfect building her confidence, allowing her the space to still be her to accept their attention but will she accept all three, will she accept the life they can provide her while allowing her to keep her independence, and will it lead to happiness finally for all four of them?
This book is a little bit different as the others in the series as the characters are older and in another phase in life. I loved it as she is a character in her late 30s and has wisdom to reflect it.
Perfect for readers who like slower plots with multiple POVs, no angst, why choose, plus size heroine and fantastic hea.
Romy owns a bakery and coffee stand in the Rookery.
Sully is the grumpy one and owns a bookstore in the same location.
Jonah is sunshine and happy one who gives her presents and owns a record shop.
Asa is the caregiving one and is in charge of a repair shop.
When her first heat manifests in the bakery one morning, she cannot comprehend why so late but she is not alone ❤️
I admire their patience and giving the three Alphas time to let her choose them. She just wanted friendship with them but she deserved much more and I am happy she got it.

Late Bloom by Piper Kane was a fun, sweet, and spicy omegaverse romance! I really enjoyed the chemistry between the characters and the why-choose dynamic. There’s a great balance between the emotional, softer moments and the steamy scenes, which kept me invested from beginning to end. I loved the feeling of being wanted, cherished, and pursued, and the protective energy throughout the romance added even more to the story. The pacing kept me turning the pages, and I found myself wanting to see how everything would unfold. Overall, Late Bloom was a fun, addictive read that hit all the right notes for me. I’m definitely looking forward to more from Piper Kane!

Taking Up Space: A Body-Positive Why-Choose Omegaverse Novel
This isn't just an omegaverse story—it’s a breathtaking journey of self-worth, healing, and body positivity! Watching three distinct, fiercely protective alphas lavish Romy with patient, intense devotion in a body she spent years apologizing for is pure catharsis. The sexual exploration is deeply empowering, giving Romy the freedom to claim her own hunger and realize that receiving love and pleasure doesn't make her demanding.

This is a cute, sweet and steamy story set in the Omegaverse world. It stands alone, why choose read that is addicting and intriguing. The story is about Romy, Sully, Jonah and Asa. She is thirty-eight and works at the Rookery, running the coffee counter and serving the regulars their favorites. She never presented as an omega until one day heat comes on hard and fast. Luckily there are three alphas who have been watching her. Sully, Jonah and Asa are there to care for her, each in his own way. I enjoyed this story and really like the characters.

Late Bloom was a decent, fast-paced read, but it ended up being a middle-of-the-road experience for me. As a "why-choose" omegaverse romance, it delivers exactly what it promises on the sweet and spicy front, and the pack chemistry was really fun. However, because it's a shorter story, the plot and character development felt a bit rushed, and I would have loved more world-building and buildup.
As someone going on 39 years old. I think I needed this story. Our Mfc finds her love story a bit later in life than she expected but it still arrives exactly when she needed it the most. Sully,Jonah and Asa were so sweet and caring. Exactly the type of Mmcs I would want to have court me if I was a romance novel heroine. This was such a sweet story. I absolutely loved it.
This has been one of my favorite Piper kane stories so far.
Late Bloom was a truly interesting read! Piper Kane delivers a fresh, creative spin on a classic trope, offering a unique take that immediately pulls you in. The characters have great chemistry, and the storyline keeps you engaged with plenty of heat and charm along the way. If you love a why-choose omegaverse romance that brings something fresh to the table, this one is definitely worth adding to your TBR!
Book 4 of the Sweet & Spicy Omegaverse series, this is about Romy, Asa, Sully, and Jonah. I like that Romy accepts that she can be cared for and is allowed to take up space, that her men make sure she is ready to accept being cared for, and include her in everything, and that they all are chosen.

I am a sucker for sweet omega-verse, and this one is full of all the rightbtrooes, hitting all the right cords, and yet notntoo sickly sweet, which was nice. Enjoy over a weekend with your favorite brunch/bbq. It's absolutely worth the read!.

I had to re-read the first chapter before I was able to get into the story, and I usually am able to finish the stories in a day. Okay Romy is experiencing her first heat, and she has three alphas that are there to help her. They are all opposite each with their own personality, and they are there to show her that they love her and her curves.
This was a sweet story with heartwarming moments and a lot of spice. There was some repetition and inconsistencies that took me out of the story a bit, but it was still enjoyable overall.
