Looking through the window of a jewelry store, we know it’s more than what we see that makes the jewels so costly. A jewel expert must study each gem in order to determine its true worth and knows that there is a story of a long and difficult journey hidden in the center of each one. It is the journey that forms the rare and unique qualities that make it so valuable.
The discovery of learning your worth is not very different from that of a precious Ruby. What is rare and valuable in women is developed by time, heat, and pressure in their personal lives. Like precious jewels, we are being cut, shaped, and polished to become who and what we are. Each of us has something beautiful about us, even if it is hidden. Like jewels, we have different kinds of inner and outer beauty which come from within the stone that captures and reflects light. The challenge for many of us is our inability to recognize and define our own beauty, endurance, and rarity.
You may be going through a period in your life in which you may feel like you have been left in the shadows or feel like you have been broken into pieces and thrown away. Whatever your condition or circumstance, perhaps you are not yet finished being shaped and polished into a perfect jewel. Once the process of cutting and polishing is complete, then you are fully prepared to step into the perfect place for your life where you will shine. Like a jewelry designer who selects the design for a gem, God formed you, then shaped and polished you, and has already prepared the perfect setting and design for your life. Where you find yourself is not an accident; it is God’s perfect plan. The circumstance of your birth has nothing to do with your destiny.
Proverbs 31:10 states, “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her worth is far above rubies” (NKJV). How do we know our worth if we don’t know the true value of a ruby? I’m sharing my personal journey as I discovered my ruby’s worth—enduring time, heat, and pressure, passing the tests of difficult times forming me into one of God’s precious rubies. God has allowed the pressures of my painful history of enduring domestic violence for twelve years, a three time rape survivor starting at the age of 10 years old and self identity growing up in mixed household to bring to the surface the best of who I am.
My prayer is that this book will help you discover your uniqueness in God and locate the true person God created you to be and intends for you to become; that you will know that you are worth far more than rubies and will be encouraged to take the necessary steps to change the course of your life. The courage to share my personal testimonies was birthed to help you reach your full potential and purpose to help you learn, understand and value your Ruby’s Worth. The price of a virtuous woman is said to be "far above rubies" (Prov. 31:10).
Jodine Basterash shares with the reader what is the value of a ruby, and other biblical passages to support its origin and depth of value as well as ancient historical concepts from varied places. Moreover, you are able to grasp your unique value and clearly understand your worth, especially as a woman.
I would highly recommend this read to women, even those who do not know their worth or has been devalued by others.
