Spunky commander Berit Turner is known for two his huge libido and his lack of a filter—he says what he thinks. Berit sets his mind on being part of a mission to Ligador to make sure the planet is habitable for humans. He’s ecstatic when his team is assigned to the task force. A delegation of Nadisc, a humanoid alien race, accompanies them, and passion ignites between Berit and their commanding officer, Tom. But Berit is determined that Tom is just another notch on his bedpost, as he doesn’t do relationships.
The excursion to Ligador goes wrong from the beginning, when they discover Ligador has been established as a breeding station by their worst the Tash’Ba. Dinosaur-like creatures become the team’s worst nightmare, and staying alive is going to take everything they’ve got… and then some.
Chris T. Kat lives in the middle of Europe, together with her husband of many years and their two children. She stumbled upon the M/M genre by luck and was swiftly drawn into it. She divides her time between work, her family—which includes chasing after escaping horses and lugging around huge instruments such as a harp—and writing. She enjoys a variety of genres, such as mystery/suspense, paranormal, and romance. If there's any spare time, she happily reads for hours, listens to audiobooks, or crafts.
*sigh* I love Sci-fi romance but why does a humanoid alien have to have a “human” name such as TOM? Why not something I can’t begin to pronounce much less spell? Wouldn’t that be more realistic?
Nothing here about forced breeding or even remotely (human) mpreg. No non/dub con either.
Breeding stations are planets where a common enemy of two races breeds monsters/dinosaurs to unleash on unsuspecting planets and destroy local population. MC hunts the super crazy GMO dinosaurs and engages - on a regular basis - in mind boggling sex with tall, handsome, uber possessive and extremely well equipped Onri-like (Claimings, Tails, and Other Alien Artifacts) alien mate. What's not to love? :D
The book is campy and fun and it has a giant alien with a very capable tail.
4.5 stars. A little bit of mush-and-feels talk in the middle was a half star off for me.
I'm always a bit..hesitant? to start a sci-fi romance, because you often get SO MUCH exposition and all these made up words to make it sound as alien as possible that it's just off-putting and boring (to me, at least), or it's like 90% action/plot and 10% romance (and I want the hot romance dammit!), that either way, I'm usually left a bit disappointed at the end of things.
SO NOT THE CASE with this story.
OMG. This book was astounding! This might be my favorite m/m sci-fi romance I have ever read. In fact, it's going on my top-top rated shelf because it's such a stand out for me.
There is the perfect blend of romance, characterization, hotness, and love along with the sci-fi elements, the alien planet and creatures, and action. Berit is hilarious and awesome, I loved his attitude, his complete lack of tact, and his headstrong ways. And Tom was the perfect match for him…and boy, it was smokin' hot when they were together. I also like that we had his best friend, Carson, and his mate, and we also got introduced to Rene and his mate towards the end of the story. I hope we'll get more with them in future book.
I enjoyed the action and plot in this, I could NOT stop reading once I got into this story. The creatures were vividly described, and it kinda reminded me of a mix of Avatar creatures and Jurassic Park haha. And can I also say that Fleur was ADORABLE?! So freakin' cute!
I've read a few other books from this author, but this goes right to the top of my favorites from her, and I will have to check out more of her works. I can't wait for the next book!!
I don't know why I liked this, but I did. Berit is TSTL, and a bit of a prat. I don't understand why this alien is named TOM (while the rest of their species has difficult to pronounce names) or why he's so zen about his childish, asshole mate's behavior. Also, the science is confounding and sometimes just wrong.
Plus, you know, it's Jurassic Park...in spaaaaaaaaaaaace. And I didn't like any of those movies at all. (Blasphemy to some, I know. Don't judge me.)
Yet somehow it was kinda fun. Definitely escapist. Engaging even...I'll probably read the sequel to see if they all save Earth.
Oh, it could be the tailsex. Yeah, that was probably part most of it. I'm a sucker for that. Although, I'm not sure how the biology works in this case: Berit can fit Tom's cock in his mouth for an enthusiastic blowjob, but buttsex would rip him open? Yeah, no. If it fits in your mouth it will fit in your asshole. (Well, provided enough time to prep and stretch.) (Or Berit isn't human and can unhinge his jaw.)
I did not really know what to expect from this book, but I thouroughly enjoyed it.
Berit is a great character - not really serious, takes himself too serious sometimes, very protective of his friends but definitely not all-knowing or able to do everything himself. especially at the beginning he is very dependend on Tom regarding his survival. but that is ok
Tom is more serious and very devoted to Berit. I loved those two together.
all in all, this was a fun read and I am looking forward to the next book
3.5 stars - Really enjoyed this one. Sci-Fi is one of my favorite genres, and this one just fit the bill perfectly, especially since it also included manhandling alphas and their stubborn mates. Definitely looking forward to the next installment.
I like Tom, I like Carson, I like the scary monsters and the rollicking adventures . . . but I didn't like Berit at all, and since he's the narrator it made it hard to enjoy the book.
Commander Berit Turner is a free-spirited kind of guy who makes no bones about enjoying sex, moving from partner to partner at will, never settling down with any one man. He’s also known for speaking his mind, mostly because he lacks any sort of filter between his brain and his mouth. Sometimes that gets him into trouble.
He and his best friend Carson are being sent on a mission to the planet of Ligador, to see how suitable the planet is for colonization. The concern is the possible presence of the Tash’Ba, a vicious alien species who don’t know how to play nice. Along with Carson and the other members of his crew, Berrit is to be assigned three aliens called Nadisc. Berit knows just how much fun the Nadisc men are sexually, so this idea is to his liking. Although he is surprised when one Nadisc male in particular, Tom, takes a liking to him, and asserts that he and his group will go with Berrit’s team, rather than waiting to be assigned. Tom has this mistaken notion that Berit is his mate. Silly Nadisc. And another Nadisc named Niyara seems to have set her sights on Carson.
When the Nadisc are introduced to Berit’s crew, they accept Berit as their leader, an unexpected event, and hugs are exchanged, except for Berit and Tom. “What? No hug from you?” I asked.
He held out his broad muscled arms for me, grinning. My mouth went dry and my damn cock pressed heavily against the fabric of my pants. It had to be visible to everyone. For the first time in many years, heat rose into my cheeks. Tom’s grin expanded before he laughed. I stepped into his arms, bracing myself for another painful embrace. Instead, I found myself leaning against a hard chest with equally hard arms around me, fencing me in but without hurting me.
Things don’t go well on Ligador, and a simple mission of exploration goes horribly wrong. The Tash’Ba have turned the planet into one of their breeding stations, playing genetic roulette with some vicious creatures, a blend between Tash’Ba war beasts and dinosaurs. Now survival is the name of the game, and making it out alive is seriously in question.
This is one fascinating sci fi book. It’s very creative, and well-told, and I enjoyed getting to know Berit and Tom, watching their courtship as it unfolded. I like that Berit isn’t perfect, and he doesn’t pretend to be. He can act silly, and sometimes he makes some bone-headed moves. But the heat between him and Tom is palpable, and the sex scenes are great.
I also enjoy the relationship between Berit and Carson. They’re as close as two men can be without being lovers, and they make no apologies for that, and expect their mates to live with it. The Tash’Ba war beasts are indeed terrifying, and certainly nothing I’d care to go up against.
Ms. Kat did a great job of world-building, and making her aliens believable, and not cartoonish in any way. As an added bonus, Tom has a tail. ‘Nuff said lol
The action is fast-paced and intense, the sex is hot. This is a book you won’t want to put down until you reach the end. Luckily, there is a second book in this series, continuing the story of Berit and Tom. I can’t wait for it to come out!
Berit isn’t the usual type of commander, he has absolutely no filter and constantly gets himself into trouble but that doesn’t stop him from being a damn good commander. When he’s part of a mission tasked with determining if a planet is habitable, he’s forced to work with a delegation of Nadisc who’s commanding officer, Tom, has Berit tied up in all types of knots. When their mission goes horribly wrong, will they be able to survive the danger they’ve unintentionally walked in or will their newfound relationship end before it even begins?
Holy cow! I was not expecting this story when I started it! I won’t deny that I’m an avid fan of Chris T. Kat’s and a HUGE sci-fi fantasy fan so when I saw this one, I wanted to read it right away. And I’m so glad I did because this story was absolutely AMAZING! One of my favorites this year for sure! It has an interesting world about planet exploration mixed with dinosaur-like creatures! I was absolutely captivated by the storyline because it had so much action and suspense to it that it left me on the edge of my seat for a majority of the story.
The great thing about this book was the characters, though. I absolutely adored Berit and Tom together. They were such opposites but they fit so well together. Berit was impulsive, emotional and stubborn while Tom was stoic, calm and possessive. I loved his possessiveness over Berit and how Berit had to come to terms with what Tom really meant to him.
In the end, this was a phenomenal story. I was drawn in right from the start and all the action kept my interesting throughout the story. Add to that, I just adored Berit and Tom’s journey through the planet AND their relationship. I’m glad this is the start of a new series because I can’t wait to read more in this world!
Sometimes I read a book and I feel a great swell of pity that the author has no one in their life that can tell them the truth. This is one of those times. This book is awful. I can understand why it was published. When it comes to romance novels, the only important thing is that someone sticks a penis in a butthole. That's the only requirement. And that's the same reason people read it and rate it any higher than the one star it deserves. But I still feel sad. Someone in this author's life probably read this at some point in the process and didn't care enough about them to tell the truth. None of the characters act like real people doing real things. The writing is incredibly lazy. This is a science fiction novel only in the most general, basic sense. It takes place in the future and in space. Not that you'll get any sense of this new world. The descriptions, world building, interactions between characters, etc. are so shallow that there is no possible way this author could have put any thought beyond "it's an alien planet in the future" into writing this. I think it's tragic that so many romance novels are so poorly written. Why must people who want to read a story about two men falling in love be forced to wade through such awful, money grabbing slop? Would it be too much to ask that, on average, romance novels were at least passably written? I understand the market is smaller than other genres, but could publishers have maybe a modicum of respect for their costumers and pass on novels that are this bad? Maybe that's asking too much...
On the one hand this story fits my bill: one of the MC is a brat as a brat can be and b/c it's some kind of B-movie story bordering to trash he's a slutty brat, so I should have enjoyed the fun wholeheartedly ... it's just that a long time into the first half I nearly move that story to my DNF shelf. In the end I glad I didn't but I had a hard time to forget that this juvenile, irresponsible guy is supposed to be a commander and then this story includes a strong female character - at least physically strong which seems rare for M/M adventures and then this character turns completely annoying and more one-dimensional than even such a story should be able to handle.
Once I was able to block out all those annoying and unbelievable parts the fun began and I could start to enjoy the bantering, the sluttiness, the genetically modified dinosaurs, rastarfarian aliens with tales for certain purposes and a bratty guy who wouldn't make it even captain if humankind is worth a dime but who I grow to like anyway. Maybe I even will read the next part of this series.
This novel started out interesting for me. I was actually somewhat put off by the very overt sexual thoughts in it by the main character. However, once it got into the story, I was hooked! I loved this. It’s like Jurrasic Park in space, and honestly, what could be better than that.
The characters are very well described and in depth. They have personalities that are easily differentiated. I’m also not a huge fan of reading first person (I think that’s mostly because it’s poorly done), but I barely even noticed it in this story. The writing is fantastic, and there was enough action to keep me interested.
Great job!

I found this an enjoyable, action-packed story, with more danger and excitement than I expected (also less sex, but that was okay). I think the strongest aspects of the story was the world-building, with some gruesome and horrific beasts on the planet that Commander Berit and his team must explore, and in the development of the Nadisc, an alien race who seem to be drawn to human mates.
I wasn't crazy about Berit's character--he was so childish sometimes that I had a hard time believing he would ever have made it to commander. I liked all the Nadisc characters, however.
Good for some romping fun and also interesting sex-acts with prehensile tails.
Got to love tail sex. This was a great book in that it didn't take itself to seriously. With murdering dinosaurs and bugs set to take over Earth that fact that there is a lot of humor and fun is what makes this book great. I love Berit as a roguish commander that doesn't always play by the rules and has no brain to mouth filter. Tom plays the more serious role and it is fun to watch him go all protective over Berit when he does something stupid. I'm really looking forward to more books in this series.
Absolutely loved it! A wild entertaining scifi adventure and hot alien sex. This was such a fun read. Enough humor to keep it light, enough action to keep it moving. And the cover has pegged Berit (smart ass commander) and Tom (tall dark alien) perfectly. I am so looking forward to reading the sequel.
Very enjoyable read! The well written characters, erotic romance, and stellar world building hooked me early and kept me devouring the book. I didn't love that this is a set-up book so we'll be following these leads in book two when I prefer the romance wrapped up and a new couple for future books in series. Still, WELL worth reading!
Entertaining interspecies sci-fi romance with Jurassic Park action. There's some alpha-omega action, hinted mpreg possibilities, and unfortunately, no breeding which is what drew my attention and if I'd bothered to actually read the second paragraph of the blurb properly would have understood wasn't in the offering, but the brain saw the title and went running.
I have to admit that I picked this book without paying much attention to the blurb on Goodreads. The title sounded like the book would be an mpreg, and I just love them.
Anyways, the book is not and mpreg.
The book is an adventure. I read this book thinking the whole time that it reminded me a little of Jurassic Park. You have all kinds of engineered creatures after Berit and Tom. It is a non-stop rollercoaster ride. You never know who will survive or what else will pop out to attack.
The book isn't huge on romance. It does have a bit when Tom scents Berit and knows he is his mate. There is some sex. The major part of the book though is the rush to stop the creatures.
In the end, all I can say is that I had so much fun reading this. I really had a hard time putting the book down. I can't wait to read the next book in the series now.
Wow - what a fascinating story! I don't know where the author's come up with these ideas but this world (universe) was quite incredible. 2 books in the series (the next is Battle Stations) and I highly suggest reading both. They were quite entertaining and very sexy! The MC's were engaging, the main secondary characters were entertaining and the story was fast paced.
Too much fun with tails!!! Great book. Lots of paranormal, sex, romance and action. Alien action. Good aliens and bad. Very good sci fi. Don t know what else to say.. Good book ,well written, and a sequel. 😺 What more do ya need?!
DNF - 56% This felt a little too rushed for me and unfortunately I didn't feel any emotional connection to or between the characters. The story seemed interesting, as did the different species but I just couldn't connect with it.
Tom is quite an unusual name for an alien, especially since all of his comrades had names hard to pronounce or remember. Aside from that Tom was just fine, I liked him as a character and admired his infinite patience with his mate's childish behaviour. Berit was a brat, I'm not exactly fond of brats, fortunately he grew up a bit with the story. Breeding stations had a very Jurassic Park feel about them. Some of the creatures were fun (not that I'd like to meet them in person) and others were just totally random. I mean, a lot of things that happened in this book was random. I liked the story, could recommend it as a light read, just don't think too much while reading.
FiveStars I was supremely surprised by this book. It was sexy and scary and everything between. I couldn't' put it down even though I'm not a huge sci fi reader. Everything was so well described that I felt like I was right there in another world so far away from the one we live in.
Berit and Tom were an awesome team that go through quite a bit in a short amount of time and their abilities to get along during the crazy situations was great. This book reminds me very much so of what it would be like if dinosaurs were brought back to life and the scary though of how they could be used against the human race.
I do wish we would've gotten to see an encounter with the Tash'Ba, but there was so many other things going on in this story and this is the first in the series that I'm sure we will in the future books.
I will definitely be looking forward to more from this author and waiting for the next installment in the series. I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Inked Reads. Renee
FiveStars This was so much like dinosaurs meets outer space and I loved it!
Berit is a commander of his ship that is on its way too Ligador where he meets Tom.. Let me tell you it is on and cracking as soon as they meet! Nothing I love more then a good mate/mine book and this one definitely has that!
So many times I laughed at the things Berit would say. This book has humor but also sadness and lots of action.
What can I say about Tom other then is there anything better then a huge alien with tons of muscles who is also super protective of his mate Berit.
When the animals on Ligador were described I at first pictured the dinosaurs on Jurassic Park.. Which I loved that movie! So you can see why I loved this book so much! I can honestly this is the first time I have read a book like this and it will definitely not be the last!
You get to meet a lot of different characters also in this book and one little animal named Fleur. Now I want a Fleur too! The way she is described so cute and cuddly!
The way Berit and Tom were together was so sweet and can I say hot! Even though the tail thing kind of creeped me out for a minute at first lol
All together I really loved this book and I can not wait to read the next one!
If you like hot alien meets hot human who mate, get all growly with the mine and protectiveness, I would definitely recommend this book! I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Inked Rainbow Reads. Kara

This is the setup for what seems to be a good series.
The Tashin planet and its queen need Earth for the queen to adequately reproduce the Tash'Ba, its creatures. They are an insectoid/reptilian species who are much more advanced than the Earth. After an initial contact 149 years prior, where the Tash'Ba offer technology in exchange for room on Earth - the Tash'Ba's are rejected.
The Tash'Ba decide to create Breeding Planets where they will genetically create species that will kill for them. The Tash'Ba control them through a genetic code that they can destroy on command, and at the right time, so they can get rid of these genetically altered species once they've conquered a planet for them.
Unknowing any of this - Commander Berit Turner leads an exploration shuttle to a newly discovered planet: Ligador. Turner is joined by a group of Nadisc - (Tom, Niyara, and Xevon) another humanoid species who is fighting the Tash'Ba . Even though their sensors do not detect the danger, once on Ligador they are attacked by dinosaur-like creatures killing most of the crew and one of the Nadisc. Turner and his best friend, Carson return to the ship along with the two surviving Nadiscs, Tom, and Niyara. They have survived a trap set up by the Tash'Ba and discovered a Breeding Station.
As it turns out, Turner is gay and he has been declared by Tom as his "mate for life." The Nadiscs only mate for life and have many rituals to this effect. Turner succumbs to Tom's advances which not only includes very graphic details - the Nadiscs use their tale in the sexual act - but Turner allows Tom to bite him in the neck - masking them an official couple. Carson becomes Niyara's mate for life - at one point there's an exchange between Carson and Turner about having a tail inserted in their anus.
When Turner reports to Admiral Baker - the fleet is alerted. A delegation of Nadiscs arrives and the Tash'Ba plot is shared with the Alliance that rules Earth. We then discover that Tom is Nadisc royalty and he has recently lost his mother, the queen, on a mission to get pictures of the Tash'Ba queen on planet Tashin.
The Nadisc share their intelligence with the Alliance and Turner must return to Ligador to find the Tash'Ba control unit and use their genetic destroyer to destroy all the animals on this breeding planet. Turner is helped by the Nadisc in this task, and also by Fleur, a Ligador native creature who can destroy some of these monsters (elgoth, ram, peron, and mandrox).
The book ends with the knowledge that there are 30 more breeding planets near Earth and they all need to be destroyed also.
The book is narrated from Turner's first person point of view. There is strong sexual content - but Turner is kind of hilarious and he spends more time fighting his impulses that fighting the monstrous creatures. The characters are very alive and I thought this was a good setting for the series to come. Unlike many other Sci-Fi writers, Mr. Kat does not assume you know anything about what's going on in the year 2247, so he explains himself. I am inclined to read the next book in the series.
Unless you object to strong gay sexual content - this is a great read.
This was a good starter book but fast- really fast at the beginning. In those first couple of chapters we meet the Nadiscs who are an alien species that are allied to humanity and work with them on exploration missions such as the one that Berit is about to go on as commander. Well, the Nadiscs he has partner up with him take an interest in them as mates- and we're talking after pretty much just meeting them. Right off the bat Tom is making his interest known and we get the feeling that it is very much on a sexual basis and probably for mating.
After that is established the exploration mission happens and everything goes to hell. I thought perhaps it would be a matter of time before they find out something is wrong on the planet, but it is almost immediately after disembarking that everything goes absolutely to hell and the story becomes very survival based. It made for damn good action but the story really just picks you up and throws you in there from the get go.
The whole thing with the Tash-Ba is an interesting idea. They are a hive type of species and extremely aggressive to humanity. The threat they pose is pretty major, and the war-beasts we meet on the planet show how utterly they want to destroy humanity. I enjoy that we learn about their species, the Nadisc, and get hints of the fact that there are other species that humanity has met over their time in the stars. For once humanity is not the aggressor, and in fact they seem to have gotten their shit together and are alright with sexuality, alien species, and ensuring that they only colonize planets that are truly unpopulated without destroying the land there. Having the counter-point of the hyper-aggressive and possessive Tash-Ba works wonderfully for the story.
I enjoyed the relationship between Tom and Berit though I was uncertain at first. Berit is very sexually open, a self-proclaimed slut. He does not like settling down and he enjoys all of his sexual adventures. He uses his charm and his 'cuteness' to get away with plenty. The man we meet is very much like a persona. Tom admonishes him for some of this and at first it seemed like Tom was trying to force Berit to be someone that he is not. Bit by bit we learn that what Berit is showing really does seem to be a persona. Oh, he really does have almost no filter from his brain to his mouth and he is impulsive and a bit ridiculous. But he has lost his entire family in some tragedy when he was younger. He has a fear of being immobilized, but fights the fear by putting himself in situations that cause it; and he mentions that this fear is 'trigger trauma'. Also, he seems to have loved someone once and been heartbroken and hurt, causing him to avoid love and build a wall around his heart with his player persona. However, we only learn about these things as snippets, and don't actually get to find out any of what happened. It made the story much deeper and more intriguing and I am really hoping the next book will let us know about some of these events.
I picked up this book because I enjoyed another book by the author, Despite The Odds, that I read and reviewed recently. I’m also a huge fan of science fiction, both hard and soft. I’m really not sure that this current book even does enough to make it soft sci-fi. A lot of the actions and activities seemed very unrealistic, in my opinion, and it kind of ruined the story for me.
I don’t want to bash, but let’s look at some examples. Half the crew is killed while the shuttles are avoiding a flying type of dinosaur/monster, from injuries received when the ship is rolling and trying to avoid them. Did the author never watch a single sci-fi movie or show and see people strapping in before a landing? Or never fly in a commercial plane and figure out it is the norm?
Then we have the windshield that is shattered by one of the flying dinosaurs while the shuttle is landing. It is big enough for the larger than human sized flying dinosaur to get in through, but 2 guys are left behind to “fix” it while the group is on the planet, so that it will be all better when they fly back to their ship in orbit. Seriously, they carry a spare windshield on board, but not seatbelts?
Overall, the book was a great concept. I specifically picked it off our list because of the blurb and the alien/human aspect of the book. I enjoyed the characters, but really wish we had more details. I know Tom is bigger than Beric and has a tail and dreadlocks, but not much else. I know Beric has blond hair and blue eyes, but not much else. I really never got a clear picture of the Nadisc, nor did I ever figure out why they wanted humans as mates. I also didn’t get a clear picture of the Tash’Ba, so it was hard for me to get invested in the story without those details.
Not every book can do it for everyone. This one didn’t do it for me. The writing was fine. The story was ok. But the details just didn’t work. Overall I’m rating the book as “OK”. Someone who doesn’t focus on the details like I do, might like it a lot more than I did.
