You can’t score if you don’t take the shot.

Brett Iverson has spent years controlling his image and his career. Coming out was supposed to be the hardest thing he’d ever do. But when an anonymous woodworker steps into his social media comments, he finds himself drawn to a man who might be more dangerous than any opponent he’s faced.

Cam Stewart can’t afford distractions while he builds Stewart Prime Construction. A relationship isn’t in the blueprint—especially not with an NHL defenseman who shows up at his youth hockey clinic and refuses to stay casual.

What starts as post-clinic smoothies turns into midnight texts, lazy Sundays, and a connection neither of them expected.

When a career-defining contract lands in Cam’s inbox, Brett must choose between the selfless answer and the honest one. Both risk everything.

Point Shot is a slow-burn MM hockey romance featuring an online connection, forced proximity, found family, and learning that the shot that matters most isn’t the one you take on the ice.

Where do I even begin with Brett and Cam? Because these two had me smiling like an absolute fool! 😍❤️ I went into this expecting a hockey romance, but I got so much more. The connection between these men, the emotional vulnerability, and the way their relationship slowly develops had me completely hooked.

Brett Iverson has spent years carefully controlling his image and career, believing that coming out would be the hardest thing he'd ever face. Then Cam Stewart enters his life, and suddenly, Brett is dealing with feelings he never expected. I loved seeing this side of Brett, especially the contrast between the confident NHL defenseman and the man who is learning to be honest about what he truly wants. 🥹

And Cam! ❤️ A hardworking man focused on building Stewart Prime Construction, with no plans to let a relationship derail his ambitions. But Brett has a way of getting under his skin, and I loved watching those boundaries slowly disappear. Their chemistry felt so natural, from the anonymous social media comments to the post-clinic smoothies, midnight texts, and lazy Sundays.

The everyday moments between them were some of my absolute favourites. There's something so special about watching two men fall for each other through conversations, shared time, and those little moments that gradually become everything. They weren't just attracted to each other; they were building something meaningful.

I also loved the emotional conflict surrounding Cam's career-defining contract. The choices they face add tension to the romance and make you think about how difficult it can be to balance love, ambition, and personal sacrifice. I was invested in seeing how they'd navigate everything together. ❤️

I absolutely adore this series. Watching past characters come and give great advice or just being supportive was absolutely fantastic. 💕 such a great book.

Enjoyed the slow burn of this story. It is part of a series, but can definitely be read as a standalone. Character development took time, and was definitely worth it. Also loved seeing Cam and Brett thrive individually and together. Their story felt real and their issues were legit, not manufactured. Overall just a fun read.

Brett and Cam have quickly become my favorites in the Breakaway Plays series. Lisa always writes characters with inspiring personal development. In Point Shot, Brett and Cam both have an idea of what they want but realize that it might look a little different than how they had planned. They need to do and say the hard things to get there. Watching them grow from their first meeting to where they land had me smiling through the whole book.

Both men need to confront feelings that they haven’t previously experienced nor expected. From the social media comments to Thursday clinics and post-clinic smoothies to farmers’ market visits and cooking dinner their chemistry and feelings grew over time and just naturally became a part of who they are. Those little moments thy shared grew into something bigger and they had to reimagine what their lives could look like and what they were building with each other.

Point Shot was such a sweet, low angst story. It left me with all the warm, happy feelings that made this one of my new favorite comfort reads. I’ll be picking this up for a reread when I need a little push to do/say the thing that scares me.

Although the book is part of a series, it works well as a standalone read.

The slow build-up allows you to settle in gradually and learn a bit more about the background. These two characters belong together; they complement each other, and you want them to share a path together.

4.5* rounded up.

While the book is part of a series, it is a series of stand-alones with some cameos from previous characters. But you don't miss anything if you jump into this first.

I think I enjoyed this one the least so far as it is a very slow burn and I struggled sometimes with the way the story developed. It wasn't just the slow burn, it was also the way these two communicated, a quite short and abrupt talking. We get a lot in thoughts but not a lot in spoken words on page.

We have a just-come out hockey player who connects with a man via instagram and then they meet in real life by chance.

Cam is quite hard to read, I found his perfection with everything and need for precision sometimes a bit hard on Brett and it made reading difficult as he is not a character who talks a lot. I loved his honesty and support for Brett but he remained a lot more distant than I would have loved.

Brett has just jumped into being out and is still learning a lot about himself and how to be the man he hopes to be. It's difficult and I liked how Cam is helping him to be true to himself and supports him while dealing with his line mate.

There is a bit of angst towards the end but nothing major and it helped both to realise what they hadn't said and why.

I like the friends but what makes this book different from other hockey series is the lack of world building and secondary characters, the characters stay more isolated in their own world.

I wonder where the author will take us next.

I loved the confidence Brett showed after coming out. While he had a bad habit of checking what people were saying about him online, I loved seeing him grow throughout the book and become more confident in who he was and the decision he made to come out.

I also loved that Lisa Linden didn't make Cam a typical male main character. He had a lot of unique quirks that made him stand out, and I appreciated that his directness wasn't treated as a negative thing by Brett. It was refreshing to see a relationship where both characters accepted each other for who they were.

Another thing I loved was that both Brett and Cam were secure in their careers. Even with their hectic schedules, they always found a way to make time for each other, and when they were together, their focus was completely on one another.

One of my favorite aspects of the book was how Brett and Cam made an effort to spend time with each other's best friends. It almost felt like a test to see how well they would fit into one another's lives, and I loved seeing those additional male friendships develop alongside the romance.

Thank you, Lisa Linden and BookSirens, for the ARC. This was a hit for me from the very beginning, and discovering this series has made me an even bigger fan of Lisa's books.

This was a lovely slow-burn story where our two leads communicated with each other pretty clearly (for the most part - ). It is listed as book 4 in a series, but I haven't read the prior books and didn't have any issues so I'd say it can safely be read as a stand alone.

I really liked the way Cam and Brett learned to read each other and see the things that weren't said in words. This slow learning about each other combined with minimal angst gave this story an almost cozy atmosphere which was just what I was looking for right now. There is also a pretty strong found family vibe with Brett and Cam's friends that I really liked.

Overall this was a very relaxed read with a satisfying ending. Definitely worth checking out if you like a slow-burn romance with low stakes.

I was instantly invested in their relationship even before Brett and Cam met. I love the slow build, the quiet attraction that they kept to themselves. I have read 13 books this month and I have not been as obsessed with any of them as I have been with this one. I don't know what it is, but I just cannot get enough of Brett and Cam. I wanted them to get together so badly and it took forever for even a first kiss, but the anticipation was just so delicious, I was addicted. I like the tie into Cross Ice since Nico’s brother, Miguel, is Brett's best friend and teammate. All the other guys make an appearance as expected. This story was surprisingly sweet and pretty low angst until they made dumb choices and then had to overcome their obstacles, but that's to be expected. I definitely recommend this book. It made me feel all gooey inside.

I received this ARC from the author and the opinions are my own.

I absolutely LOVED reading this book! Everything about it was just perfect

I loved how in the first few chapters they were building up their friendship before they admitted their feelings to each other and it was so nice to read!
I also loved that while being together they both thrived while being together and while doing their own thing which is just so nice to read

I also loved how they both got their happily ever after with each other and got to live out their dream of being parents and having a family together🥹

Hockey player Brett still has haters taking shots online at his coming out story. Construction supervisor Cam points out the holes in the haters' comments and Brett takes notice. The reader knows they are about to meet in person, but Brett takes a bit to figure out the hockey coach of the kid's camp he is volunteering with is also the same defender of his online posts.
They progress slowly from there and take the time to get to know each other better and to see if they fit in each others' lives. There are some snags along the way that cause trouble. How they get to the other side is what makes this story interesting. The HEA is well-earned and believable.

This is a slower moving, low angst MM romance. Cam and Brett are interested in each other from the start, but they take their time building their romance. Their issues are more of lack of communication than anything else, which I do find frustrating as a trope. Just talk to each other, people! I really identified with Cam though, a perfectionist who insists on things being done right, no matter how much he is pressured to do otherwise. As someone who has bowed to that pressure and always regretted it, I hugely admired him. A good more mature read.

ARC review
An amazing slow-burn read. Watching these two fall in love gave me butterflies. There is so much genuine affection and sweet moments between Brett and Cam throughout this book. I really enjoyed everything about it. I love that MC's from the other books in this series make appearances and relationships with friends and family also contribute to the story. This is one of my favorite books in this series, mostly because of the chemistry between them and the quiet heartwarming way they fell in love.

Brett has forced to come out earlier than he had planned, but when someone is nosing around and planning to out you what can you do but do it yourself in your own way. He simply posted a picture of himself and his mother marching in a Pride Parade. An anonymous woodworker defends him, Brett sends a friend request, and the rest was history. It's a super slow burn where the MCs take the time to really det to know each other before moving forward. Kind of like real life.

I was really close to DNF'D the book. This book is to compare to previous books was really harto read. I'm not sure if it's just me or my mood or something else. In the previous book, the storyline was easygoing, mushy stuff mushing, hehe. Where's in this book, even dialogues were a bit dry.
I have to put it down and do a break and come back to it again.

Thank you, author, for ARC.

Point Shot is the fourth book in the Breakaway Plays series, while it can be read as a standalone, I think it's so much better in order. This is a found family, slow burn, friends to lovers read about Cam and Brett. I really enjoyed this storyline and the wonderful characters, this was a great low angst read.
