What is the most widely-used paranormal human ability? Why was this extraordinary subtle magical art brought to England by sixteenth century German miners? Does it really work? If so, how? In this charming book, legendary Cornish master-dowser Hamish Miller shares the secrets of his trade, tells the story of dowsing, and gives key hints and exercises to assist wizards and witches, young and old, in their search for keys, kids, cats, cables and cosmic connections. WOODEN BOOKS are small but packed with information. "Fascinating" FINANCIAL TIMES. "Beautiful" LONDON REVIEW OF BOOKS. "Rich and Artful" THE LANCET. "Genuinely mind-expanding" FORTEAN TIMES. "Excellent" NEW SCIENTIST. "Stunning" NEW YORK TIMES. Small books, big ideas.
In the second-hand bookcase in the apartment building were I live I came across this charming book were the Cornish master dowser Hamish Miller shares the secrets if his trade, tells the story of drowsing and gives key hints and exercises to assist wizards and withes, young and old, in their search for keys kids cats cables and cosmic connections. All nicely illustrated by Jean Hands. As easily as I found it I lost the book and all its knowledge again, no drowsing can help me there.
I have no idea how to rate this book. It is utterly insane in the most endearing way imaginable. I love it. At one point, the author recommends you have a friend hide a good bottle of wine in your garden for you to find using the art of dowsing. Personally, I do not drink wine, but I have considered taking up fine wine tasting because of this book.

Fairly good introduction to dowsing, I met Hamish a few times and felt he was more articulate via conversation than in the book but it is still a good buy if you are considering giving it a go.
This book is gold! Hamish Miller gives a little bit of history, what to do, types of tools and how you can use divination – infused with some very dry humour and an obvious liking for scotch whiskey. Right up my street! If you are interested in the paranormal, this little book is top notch!
I learned to dowse because of my association with Fountain International in the 1990's. Hamish Miller was one of their guiding lights. This book is a primer for anyone interested in dowsing. Highly recommended.
