You guys, I enjoyed this book WAY more than I was intending to.
At the start of this book, I went in just for a cliché read, but I came out surprised.
Let’s start off with our FMC, Evie.
Evie, oh Evie, how do I love you. She’s sarcastic, she’s funny, and she’s understandable. Usually when I read these kinds of romances, something about the FMC is annoying. But, for some reason, Evie wasn’t. I loved her character and I loved her attitude and traits. 9/10 rating for Evie!
Now, for our MMC, Aiden.
EEEEEKKKK!!! I LOVE Aiden SO MUCH! He was such a swoon-worthy character. He never got mad at Evie for no reason, and he loved her for who she was. The backstory on Aiden’s life wasn’t TOO much lore, but it also wasn’t boring. For an unpopular rom-com, our MMC was INCREDIBLE. 9.75/10 rating for Aiden!
⚠️‼️SPOILER WARNING‼️⚠️
Like I said, the lore drop for Aiden wasn’t too much, but it was still a lot.
You’re telling ME that through like, let’s say half the book, Evie is thinking that the songs Aiden sings about heartbreak are about an old girlfriend, and that white and black plaid scarf were also from that girlfriend, but in reality, the scarf belonged to his DEAD LITTLE SISTER?! Um, WHAT?!
Story time for that, Evie had gotten into a huge fight with her dad and needed someone to talk to, so she went to Aiden’s house. She met his mom (who is LOVELY, by the way) and she started to look around the house because Aiden was running errands. Now, if you couldn’t already tell, Evie didn’t know about his sister. So, when she started to look at the old pictures, and noticed how Ruby (his sister) came into the family while Aiden was seven, then as she went through the pictures, she noticed the scarf that Aiden always wears. But Aiden wasn’t wearing it. Ruby was. And not on her neck, on her head. Ruby wore the scarf on her head so her bald head wouldn’t get cold. She was bald because she had CANCER. CANCER?! Ruby died at around the age of 6-8, and Aiden was heart-broken. THATS what his heart-break songs were about. Not about an ex-girlfriend, but about his dead little sister. Aiden only never told Evie because Evie treated him so normally when they talked and didn’t talk to him with pity.☹️
Like, OH MY GOD?! He’s so sweet and thoughtful and DEFINITELY cute🥹.
Last thing, I promise, I know it’s a long review, but can we talk about the side characters for a second?! Fiona and Dev, oh how I love them, too! Fiona is a sarcastic lesbian baddie with an attitude, and Dev reminds me of Leo from the PJO universe. He’s funny, adorable, and sarcastic. He gives golden retriever vibes for real. And POPPY! Oh my God, I loved her WAY more than I expected to. I won’t go too far into details for the sake of ruining the whole book, but she’s SUCH a girls girl, and I love her! And finally, Nigel, Evie’s dad. Now, when Nigel was young, he got bullied constantly about his weight, and as he got older, it got worse. He would still get bullied even in his thirties. Some people take bullying worse than others, so he LITERALLY went on a diet and lost weight. But, Evie and her mom couldn’t keep up. That’s when Nigel left. Not left for a few hours or days, he left for good. He moved to London and left their family. Evie was so little and sad that she didn’t eat for THREE. DAYS. Thinking that if she didn’t eat, her father would come back. Nigel built a facade as he was gone. He never smiled, never showed emotion. So, when Evie would come to visit him in London, it was always a horrible experience. She would eat a bag of chips and her father would tell her that it’s unhealthy and that she should go work out. This time when she visited, it was much different. But, throughout the story, she fixed those little parts of her dad that were broken, and they’re now healing their relationship together. The character development on Nigel was incredible.
To wrap this up, if you’re still here, thanks. I know this was an INCREDIBLY long review, but I appreciate you SO much if you stayed. Over all,
⭐️4.25 stars⭐️ I would definitely recommend this! Bye, loves!❤️✨
