In the Company of Wolves

He opened his mouth to order her to drop the MP5 she had aimed at him, but nothing would come out. It was like she'd robbed him of the ability to speak. Shooting her wasn't an option, though. And the idea of arresting her didn't make him feel any better.

There's a new gang of criminals in town who are organized and ruthless in the extreme. When Eric Becker, along with the rest of the Dallas SWAT team, ends up in the middle of a shootout, he immediately senses werewolves-a lot of them. Turns out, the new bad guys are a pack of wolf shifters.

In a spray of gunfire, Becker comes face-to-face with the most gorgeous woman he's ever seen. Becker does the logical thing. He hides her and leaves the scene with the rest of his team.

Jayna Winston has no idea why that SWAT guy helped her, but she's glad he did. Ever since she and her pack mates got mixed up with those Eastern European mobsters, everything had pretty much fallen apart.

So what's a street-savvy thief like Jayna going to do with a hot alpha-male wolf who's a police officer?

After reading eight of the books in this series, I’ve decided to go back and read the ones that I’ve missed. In the Company of Wolves by Paige Tyler is the third book in the SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team paranormal romantic suspense series. Set in contemporary times in Dallas, Texas, this novel features Eric Becker and Jayna Winston.

The Special Weapons and Tactics team are members of the Dallas police force. They tend to be secretive, but they’re also well-liked by the citizens of Dallas and its politicians. There’s a new gang of criminals in town who are organized and ruthless. When Eric and the rest of the Dallas SWAT team end up in the middle of a shootout, he realizes the new bad guys include a pack of wolf shifters.

When Eric comes face-to-face with Jayne, he hides her and leaves the scene when the rest of his team does. Jayna has no clue why he helped her, but she’s glad he did. Ever since she and her pack mates got mixed up with the Eastern European criminals, everything had fallen apart.

This story is action-packed and filled with several twists and turns to keep you reading. Tense moments and great world-building and characterization kept this reader rapidly turning the pages. The author does a great job of delivering exciting scenes and outcomes. She also introduced some new supernatural elements to the story, building on the first two books.

Once again, this book delivers on escapism through instant attraction, friendship, found family, and trust. There are some steamy scenes in the second half of the book.

Overall, this is a briskly paced and suspenseful novel that’s full of danger, action, and a sense of urgency. If you enjoy entertaining paranormal romantic suspense novels, then I recommend you check out this series.

I purchased a copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. This book was originally published on December 01, 2015.

Whew! Tyler is totally rocking this series. Hot damn but In the Company of Wolves was a heck of a good time. Action packed with a fabulous romance and amazing characters it grabbed me from page one and...I read ALL night. I couldn't put it down. I regret nothing. lol

The quick of it is that Becker and his team are trying to bust up a crime ring and during one mission he comes face to face with a pretty werewolf who has her gun pointing right at him. But that's totally not what stuns him. What has him stopping dead in his tracks? She's "The One". Capital T. Capital O. His soul mate. Ahhhh what a first meet! And he's determined to figure out what this female wolf is doing in the midst of a crime ring when she very clearly doesn't belong there.

alpha male, man candy, sexy, hot guys, bikeI really loved Becker and Jayna. There was just something about them. Both cared about the people around them, were fighters, would do whatever it took to keep the people they love safe. They had amazing chemistry and suited each other so well despite the whole her holding a gun on him thing when they first met and being on opposite sides of the law for a spell. Little things, ya know? They were just good people and so dang endearing.

The romance was sweet, lovely and fated. It took a bit of a back seat to the action this time but it worked. I liked seeing them come together though and working to save her pack. Seeing him worm under her defenses as each day passed. They were just so good together!

And the action! Bite your lips, palms sweating, edge of your seat suspense that kept me turning the pages as quick as I could. It was exciting and had me gasping more than once as Becker infiltrated her Pack and the two worked together to get them out of a crime lord's grasp. I would have loved a bit more of Becker and his SWAT team but since a majority of the book took place while he was undercover that was understandable and when they did show up now and again they were fabulous as always.

I really loved everything about In the Company of Wolves. The romance, the action and suspense, the luscious hero and fierce heroine. Paige delivered a captivating paranormal romance. This team of Alpha wolves is just so damn fun and sexy. Can't wait for the next!

IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES opened with two hard hitting scenes; the first featured the traumatic event that induced Jayna’s change, and the second was a full blown SWAT maneuver, but with werewolves! Paige Tyler dropped a few more bread crumbs about her supes, another couple got a sexy HEA, and this installment’s villains gave the boys in blue a run for their money.

The author has been taunting readers with snippets of shifter lore since book 1, and finally after three volumes, I’m pleased to report that sufficient dets have been divulged for me to go all-in. Now, don’t go getting too excited because Tyler really doesn’t give us much except betas and omegas, but from a werewolf fangirl’s perspective that’s enough.

I enjoyed the plot of this installment; all of the stories have been adrenaline fiends, however this one was especially cranked up on account of the antagonists being wolves too. SWAT had yet to encounter a situation in which they were evenly matched with the baddies, so that was cool, and there was also an undercover operation that gave the action an extra edge.

Cooper got suckered into helping yet another team mate hook-up with their The One. No, not really. He’s simply a stand-up guy, and I can’t WAIT to read his story! Becker was just as alpha as Gage & Xander, but in his own unique way. Jayna was a brilliant heroine, and I absolutely loved her pack mates: Megan, Moe, Joseph & Chris.

IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES is proof that good things come in threes.

What would you do when you come face to face with your fated mate and you find out they are firmly entrenched in the enemy camp? Alpha wolf shifter and elite SWAT team member, Eric Becker is about to find out.

Jayna Winston has been dealt a very bad hand. Making the best of the situation, she finds herself and her fellow shifter pack mates pawns in European mafia hostile takeover. Worse, the one person they’ve come to rely on, their alpha, has pulled them in hook, line and sinker.

Paige Tyler has created a new mold for uber alpha wolf shifter. Steamin’ hot but not always the only man in the room. I love the pack dynamics and can’t wait to see where this new blending will go.

Sexy, intense and suspense filled, In the Company of Wolves gets a big 5 stars from me.

ARC Review:

After a truly fantastic start to the book, this story dropped off a bit for me. I really enjoyed HOW the characters are introduced and I thought there was lots of potential for this story, but it just didn't deliver the punch I expected.

Becker is a member of the Dallas PD's SWAT team - Special Wolf Alpha Team. He is still considered young and a recent addition to the group. Jayna is a runaway who grows up in the streets. All of her life, she thought she was a beta wolf. She joins a pack which turns out to be lead by someone who is not leader-worthy. Jayna gets caught in a warehouse robbery where Becker finds her and strangely helps her hide from the police so that she can make a get away. He takes this risk because he feels something for her upon first sight. One of the central themes of the SWAT books is the notion of "The One" - a mate out there in the universe waiting to be found at which time, the wolf is virtually powerless. Yet, even with The One Myth, it's a little strange to me that Becker loses all sense of his moral compass and will do anything to protect a stranger. Usually, when I read paranormal books, I'm much more forgiving of eye-rolling plot points. It's paranormal...you have to suspend some reality.

However, I just didn't get Becker and Jayna as a couple. I think part of it is how the story unfolds. When Becker goes undercover in order to protect Jayna, the story skips from scene to scene and the story is narrated instead of lived. We only get to see the after effect of some of Becker's activities. I felt a loss of continuity and it failed to give me depth to Becker and Jayna's relationship.

I really like Paige Tyler's books for high entertainment value. She writes fun paranormal stories. Although Jayna is very sympathetic and I like her, I just didn't really respond well to Jayna and Becker as an couple. I didn't feel that they got inside my head and heart.

I would absolutely rate this book more than 5 stars if I could. In the Company of Wolves has to be my favorite out of all three books, and I fell in love with the stories in Hungry Like the Wolf and Wolf Trouble so THAT is saying something. Becker and Jayna were dynamite together and this story was explosive! Not just the simmering passion between the primary characters but the story itself. In the Company of Wolves was multidimensional, fast paced, and intense! I was on pins and needles for most of the second half of it. There was so much going on that I was afraid that I'd miss something if I page flipped too fast. The story was full of plot twists and turns that kept the momentum of the story extremely fluid.

Tyler just keeps upping the ante in this series, and each book outshines the one that precedes it. I cannot wait to see what she does with Cooper's story.

I highly recommend the SWAT series to anyone who is looking for a well-written, thrilling, and über sexy paranormal romance series with dominant, alpha heroes and strong and determined heroines.

"There's nothing on it. How's it going to help you find her?"
"That's the easy part. All I have to do is get on a computer and start violating about a hundred state and federal laws. I should have an answer by tomorrow."
"I probably don't want to know exactly what you're planning on doing. That way, I can't be forced to testify against you when the NSA swoops in and arrests your ass."

Now this is what I was expecting (hoping?) for when I started this series. IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES hit almost all the right notes for me. It had the funny, sexy, swoony, thrilling, vibe I wanted but with some silliness thrown in for good measure. We aren't really supposed to take a team of SWAT alpha werewolves too seriously after all.

Every since Gage had met Mac, the rest of the SWAT team had been seeing The One in every woman who gave them a casual glance. After Xander met Khaki, it had only gotten worse. It was the number one topic of conversation whenever they had some downtime. Hell, even when they were on incidents. Becker was just as guilty as the other guys when it came to wondering if there was someone special out there for him.

Book three basically has the best set-up, though. SWAT team is cleaning up extra crime after the death of the big time criminal boss that was killed in book one's story. In comes this team of thieves who are going around causing mayhem in downtown Dallas. Upon foiling one of their heists, surprise! The werewolves are facing another team of werewolves; but way less badass. Eric stumbles across one who completely shortcircuits his brain. Sure she's gorgeous, and only the second female werewolf he's seen, but the feeling, her scent! Ruh roh. Has he found his The One? How inconvenient!

"Has it ever occurred to you that this woman might not even find your attractive?"
"No."

Jayna hasn't had a very good run in life. She left home at seventeen after her stepfather tried to assault her, triggering her change, and after some time spent on the streets was taken in by an alpha and his pack of betas. That's right. We had additional lore to this world! I'm loving that Tyler keeps throwing us more elements to her wolves in each book.

"Is it so hard to believe that people as unique and special as werewolves are meant to find that one perfect person who accepts us for who we are?"
"Yes, it is that hard to believe. I prefer to think that the way I feel about you is purely because of the person you are, not because of any werewolf magic."

After Eric saves her life, he tracks her down and discovers her alpha has pledged her pack to a group of Albanian mobsters in order to pay off a debt. Deciding to infiltrate the pack as an omega, basically a beefcake berserker, he and Jayna start to sew dissent and take down the mobsters and her shitty alpha in order to rescue her pack from their clutches.

"Sorry. I thought you'd been a werewolf a lot than longer than I have."
"No big deal. I don't have a problem with you being smarter than I am. I find smart women to be very sexy."

I loved the undercover aspect, I loved Jayna knowing things Eric didn't and also having been a werewolf for longer than he, I loved Eric still being able to teach her a few things, and all the dynamics and struggles she faced in trying to keep her pack safe. Also her backstory added a nice element to the romance that kept things from being too smutty and instead more about connection, consent, and communication. It was great.

"This team was a whole hell of a lot easier to run before any of us had ever heard about The One."

But. Yes, there's a but. What stopped this from being a four-star read (I know, I'm surprised too) was the villain. While I was fine with the crazy berserkers and the Albanian mob full of creeps, it was the bigger villain in the once-kind but since-twisted alpha of Jayna's pack who.. I don't know. Tyler's bad guys are just kind of one dimensional. Their motives are always just too moustache-twirling-evil but in kind of a "you're a dumb dumb" way. Liam really took this book down a notch.

"If there was ever a woman made to wear yoga pants, it's her."
"What is it with you and those damn yoga pants?"

Otherwise, though, this one was a lot of fun, very sweet, full of laugh out loud moments, and definitely worth the investment of two okay books prior to reaching this point. Tyler veered away from some of the formula I saw her sticking to and I appreciated this slight departure from what she'd established. I'm much more excited about reading on in this series than I was earlier today.

I’ll be honest with you…I’ve been looking forward to this release every since I read the last book in the series. Paige Tyler is somewhat of a new author for me. The first few books of hers that I’ve tried have blown me away and I was really hoping that this new installment would bring the same thrills and chills as the previous books have for me.

Though Tyler very much sticks to what she knows, what’s new and interesting about this book is the fact that she introduces another group of werewolves. So far in this series, we’ve only seen a small amount of the world and the werewolves. We only know that the SWAT team is comprised of all werewolves and no one else knows that but its members. However, when an attack occurs and SWAT soon realizes that there are other werewolves out there, things get much more interest for the group.

This is especially true for Eric Becker because at the scene of the crime, he helps one of the other member of the team hide, even going as far as storing her in a crate and dousing her with perfume to mask his scent. It’s crazy, even for a guy like him. However, Becker can’t seem to stop thinking about the criminal he meant.

Turns out, Jayna isn’t exactly a hardcore criminal but she does have a dark past. And as Becker discovers her involvement with her pack and a bunch of mobsters, Tyler explores more of her world. While I enjoyed learning more about the Alpha, Betas and Omegas, I will say that it seemed a little unbelievable that Becker can find out all of Jayna’s personal information from doing a little research but he doesn’t know what a Beta and Omega are. I guess the author plans of revealing things as they come up.

Despite that though, I still very much enjoyed this book. I find that I have come very attached to the members of the SWAT team very quickly. That’s impressive for only being book three in the series. I would have loved to seen more of the other members of the SWAT team. Apart from Cooper and Beck, there wasn’t much else. But you can bet that I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next book in the series to get my next dose!

Paige Tyler's SWAT Series is easily one of my favorite series of 2015 and as soon as I met Becker I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy of his book. After all that anticipation, In the Company of Wolves could have easily been a disappointment but Ms. Tyler came through big time and gave me another book that I absolutely loved!

Janya ran away from home when she was seventeen after an incident with her stepfather caused the change in her. Her alpha, Liam, took her in a year later and she's been a part of his pack ever since. As a beta, Jayna has a strong pack mentality, and even though she doesn't agree with the mess that Liam has gotten her pack in, she stays with him and does his bidding... Until she meets Becker, that is.

Becker and Jayna come face to face when his SWAT team shows up to take down Jayna and her pack. As soon as he sets eyes on her he feels a connection that urges him to help her escape. And after some digging, and getting to know Jayna a little bit, Becker then goes undercover in Jayna's pack to help her and the other betas escape from the Albanians.

I love the instant connection between Becker and Jayna. While he wasn't sure that she was his "one" from the get-go he knew that she was special. And Jayna, having no idea that werewolves had soulmates, still felt that instant connection to him and knew that she could trust him to keep her safe.

I feel like there was a lot more sit around and wait in this one than there was in the previous books in this series but there was still enough action to keep it interesting. And poor Becker, the man was constantly getting bandaged up from putting himself in harms way.

Of course it was great to see Xander, Khaki, and the rest of the gang again. And of course I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series... Please, please say it's Cooper!!!!

Once again Tyler has created a fast paced & exciting novel that I found myself completely caught up in. Action packed sequences and hot romance fill the pages of this novel with a vivid story. Her descriptions paint this world in a larger than life manner, allowing me to picture each aspect of it.

Alpha male-ness simply oozes from the characters in this novel. Tyler has created the ultimate males to make a woman drool. Not only are they strong and super alpha, but they also care and take care of those around them. I love how they all band together toward a common goal. The male lead in this story is no exception. He was easy to fall in love with. The contrast between him and the female lead in this story was fantastic. She was loveable and easy to get to know in a completely different manner.

This novel was a great addition to Tyler’s SWAT series. Her alpha wolves never fail to draw me in to their high stakes adventures.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy:

I adored the first two books in the SWAT series, but IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES might be my favourite yet. Jayna is an amazing character, and the action and danger barely ever let up. I devoured this book in one sitting.

Jayna, who ran away from home at seventeen after horrific events, steals the show. She is not the leader of her pack of Betas, but she is the heart and soul of her group. Their Alpha leads them into some pretty shady situations, eventually exposing them to Albanian mobsters who use them to do their dirty work. As their Alpha begins to act less and less in the interest of the pack, she steps up and protects her family, growing as a leader but also growing in power as an Alpha herself. Her character was a joy to read and watch evolve.

Even though this series does use the trope of fated mates, it's never used as an excuse for the Jayna and Eric to be together, just as an reason as to why they fit so well. Jayna has a lot of trouble deciding where her loyalties lie - with Eric, whom she loves, or with her packmates whom she loves perhaps even more. Just because he is the One doesn't mean that she throws logic and responsibility out the window.

The distinctions are made between alphas, betas and omegas in this book, which is interesting. All of the SWAT werewolves are relatively new turns who have never experienced true pack life - it's unusual for 16 alphas to live and work together as they do at the SWAT compound. The differences in control, strength and outlook round out the werewolf mythology and add a great dimension to a series with an already cool version of this often used theme.

Content warning: there is a somewhat explicit attempted rape right at the beginning of the book, and although the rest of the book has it's share of violence, the first few pages may be difficult to read for some people. Still, it shows Jayna's strength and is really well written.

It's not clear yet wether there is another book coming in the series, but I am hoping there is and will be following what Paige Tyler does next regardless.

This series gets better with each book and in this one we are additionally introduced to beta's and omega's expanding the world building in the series.

Next up on the SWAT team to find “the one” is Eric Becker and boy was he given quite the complex woman. Jayna Winston was 17 when she first turned during a harrowing ordeal with her step dad. After running away she ends up with pack of werewolf's that she comes to care deeply about. Four years later the supposed Alpha of that group has them involved in illegal activities with a family of mobsters. Eric and Jayna lives intersect during a SWAT mission to catch the mobsters. SWAT had no idea that the mobsters had hired a group of werewolves to do their dirty work and things get quite messy. Eric ends up meeting Jayna during a shootout in the warehouse and hides her from both her team and his for her safety. Afterwards Eric realizes that she is “the one” and after finding her and realizing the predicament she and her pack are in goes in undercover to try and help bring down the mobsters and rogue omega's.

I liked the introduction of the new type of werewolves. As we learned in the second book women can also be Alpha's which Jayna clearly was but had no idea until Eric showed her. Where the last book in the series showed us the inner workings of the SWAT team this one focused more on the actual pact hierarchy. Jayna had become very close to a group of beta's who are very loyal to her. The other type we were introduced to was the Omega's who were portrayed as having no loyalty to anyone but themselves and not able to control their inner wolves as well.

There are plenty more SWAT members stories to tell and I looked forward to them and the world building that the author is doing throughout the series.

Another fun fast-paced installment!!

I must say that I was surprised to read how Becker being so sweet to Jayne. I guess I remembered him from the previous two books as sort of the 'clown' within the Pack with him always asking for women to use yoga pants *lol*. But Becker -- I still couldn't think of him as Eric, even if Jayna called him that -- was showing that he was as Alpha as Gage and Xander; especially by going undercover to inflitrate a bunch of scary Albanians gang.

Jayna was another strong heroine -- even though I think she was the youngest heroine so far compared to Mac or Khaki, but she was gutsy. I was impressed with her calmness in handling some of the dangerous situations, like during the Mexican standoffs between the Albanians and the omegas. Also near the end when she proved that she could fight her ass off, even if she wasn't completely embraced her alpha-ness.

The story went outside the SWAT team environment this time; with Jayna having her own pack of betas to protect and Becker going undercover to help her out. So there wasn't a lot SWAT team time. Only Becker's best friend Cooper who had more pages compared to the other SWAT team members. I didn't mind because it was nice to understand more about the werewolves mythology this time around. Paige Tyler finally introduced us to the concept of betas and omegas in addition to the alphas which made the world-built more complex than the previous two. I would love to know more about Tyler's ideas of werewolves in the next book.

By the way, I am happy that the next book will be about Cooper. I expect to see him doing more shirtless cooking!! *lol*

It was okay. Cute, if awfully light in storyline. The fact that these guys were 'werewolves' was the barest bones of window dressing for story purposes. I finished it; but I skimmed...a lot. Even at that, it took me an inordinately long time to muster up the interest to make it to the end. And it was mushy. After the first few gushings about Jayna being The One, I was rolling my eyes and gagging.

“There is no life to be found in violence. Every act of violence brings us closer to death.” - bell hooks

A meth addict mother. Check. A brutal, drunken stepfather. Check. Living in a hellhole of an apartment, waiting for said stepfather to storm into her room and rape her. Double check. Jayna Winston fled into the night on the very night that nearly happened. Bloody, beaten and alone.

Fast forward to the present day, and Jayna finds herself in a hell of a mess. In Paige Tyler’s mythology, werewolves are created at times of great terror and pain, and Jayna’s change came that terrifying night. Now, her alpha, Liam, has placed his small pack into the hands of the Albanian mob, locked them into committing crimes, from theft to murder. Murder. And Liam apparently doesn’t care that his tiny pack is in danger of being killed every time they commit a crime. That right this very moment Jayna’s life is in danger. Because Liam said there were no werewolves in Dallas. Especially no alpha werewolves. But now, in a warehouse in a bad part of Dallas, Jayna and the omega wolves Liam has taken in – huge, ruthless, savage – are surrounded. Surrounded by a SWAT team composed completely of wolves. Alpha wolves.
A whole pack of alpha wolves. Toe-to-toe to one of said wolves, Jayna knows she will never survive. Until the alpha wolf dumps her into a packing crate, tells her to be very, very quiet – and then pours a shipment of very expensive perfume over the crate to block her scent.
What the . . . ?
Why did that happen? And to make it even weirder, the alpha, Eric Becker, tracks her down. But he doesn’t arrest her. He wants to help. Liam may have dropped Jayna and her tiny pack into certain death, but Becker wants to help. No one has ever offered to actually help Jayna. Now she and Megan, Moe, Joseph and Chris, three beta wolves, can no longer rely on Liam. And without Liam’s strength, they can’t leave, can’t fight back.

But Becker has a plan. First, he has to present himself as an omega, and be accepted by Frasheri, the Albanian mob boss, and his underboss, the psychopath Kostandin. And then? Well, here is what is going to happen . . .

Tyler’s mythology is interesting in its difference. Neither Jayna nor her pack members, or Becker himself, have been wolves for very long, all learning what it means. All have things to teach one another. Jayna is terrified, of course, of losing her much loved pack members, even Liam who sold them out to the mob in exchange for money and the illusion of power. To save them she will have to be stronger than she ever could have imagined. And she comes through beautifully.

Becker and his people are strong, of course, but also very human in the best sort of way. A pleasant read.

I received In the Company of Wolves from the publisher in exchange for a realistic review. All thoughts are my own.

ARC REVIEW

In the Company of Wolves is book three in Paige Tyler's SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team series. Ohhh, I loved it. Paige Tyler has a way about her writing that's just completely... wow. Like with the other two books Paige Tyler takes the Alpha Shifters of the Dallas SWAT team and throws them into unexpected situations. So far we have just seen alphas but that's not all there are as we see in this exciting new addition to the series.

Eric Becker fell in love at first sight, the fact that she was holding a gun to his head didn't cloud matters at all. But the fact that she is part of the new gang of criminals infiltrating Dallas put a bit of a damper on the whole she's my mate thing. Gage Dixon gets a tip that the new band of thugs will be hitting a warehouse is the first lead they have had and the team doesn't hold back especially when they realize the thieves are shifters too. The sweet smell of Becker's mate switches him to protective mood and risks his career to make sure she gets out alive and not in handcuffs. With Landry's help Becker hides her in a crate and breaks perfume bottles over her to hide her scent from the others. Only Becker's ingenuity and loads of patience lead him back to her.

Jayna Winston found out she was a shifter when her stepfather tried to rape her. She left home after nearly killing him for trying, ever since she has been traveling with another group of shifter who are like her betas lead by the alpha who saved her from living on the streets. Only recently has her faith in her alpha wavered, ever since he got the pack mixed up with the Albanian mob and a group of unbalanced and wild omegas. Claiming he owed them money and the only way to pay it off was to work it off by robbing certain places and basically help take over the Dallas area. Jayna stays because she is worried about her pack mates they aren't strong enough on their own and their loyalty to their alpha is strong even if he is risking their lives. Jayna doesn't know why the good looking SWAT guy didn't arrest her but she isn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth but when he tracks her down she doesn't know what to think she just has an unnerving urge to confide everything to him.

Becker risks his life and his job to protect Jayna and her pack mates from the omegas and the crazy Albanian mobsters, by going undercover as an omega. His plan to turn them against each other starts off good but works a little too well. Becker and Jayna even have time to get to know each other and reaffirm with each other that they are mates. Jayna also has to come to terms with the fact that she is now the alpha for her pack.

Overall, very exciting, from beginning to end it's almost non-stop action. And I'm waiting on baited breath for Landry Cooper's book.

Review posted on Got Fiction?

I really love Paige Tyler's werewolves. It's a fresh take on werewolves without feeling like it's something crazy and out there. This SWAT series is full of that yummy alpha wolfiness I love.

This books starts with something a little darker than normal. Jayna is trying to ignore her mom and stepdad fighting, but when it gets to the point where she can't ignore it any more, she tries to run. And he catches her before she can climb out the window. And she knows the look in his eyes.

Fast forward several years later, and her pack, the one that pulled her off the streets and gave her a home and family, is in trouble. Their alpha has said that he's in too deep with some mobsters, and he needs the pack to do a couple of jobs to work off his debt. Jayna and the others are pissed, because they've stolen to eat before, but never anything like this. And every time they think they're out, their alpha tells them he needs them again. It becomes clear to her that he's in this willingly, and they aren't going to leave any time soon.

Eric Becker is part of the Dallas SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) team, and when he and his team are at a warehouse during a sting, he sees a lovely and delicious little female wolf holding a very large weapon aimed at him. But instead of ordering her to drop the weapon, he helps hide her from both the bad guys, and the good guys.

Instead of telling his team leader, his alpha, someone who's broken rules for the woman he loves, he hides it from all but his one best friend, and decides to track her down and help her. When he realizes that she can't leave her pack behind, he decides right then to help out from within.

The bad guys have been outsourcing werewolves who have no loyalties to anyone, called Omegas, and since Jayna's pack is full of Betas, a group who needs the pack bond more than anything, and who in turn strengthen that pack bond, these Omegas are pretty bad dudes.

Beck goes in as an Omega.

It's not often I find a hero TSTL (Too Stupid To Live), but for a while there, I'm sorry to say he was. I mean he went deep undercover without telling his alpha. An alpha who would have understood. An alpha who then could have made it a sanctioned op and given him backup and help.

I mean, his alpha didn't find out until close to the end, and I felt it was very out of place. Like, he wouldn't have said no. So why hide it? I still don't get that choice by the author.

But, on the whole, it's a good book, and a solid series. I feel like Paige Tyler has a fantastic thing going with her SWAT series.

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

This series just keeps getting better and better. As we learn more about the members of the Dallas SWAT team, we are also learning more about werewolf lore. Ms. Tyler is not willing to give us too much information in any one story. We are just getting bit and pieces of this lore. In this story, we learn that alphas are not the only kind of werewolves that exist. There are also betas and omegas. These are not the same betas and omegas that we get in other stories and I liked the take that Tyler took with her lore.

We continue to see stories of traumatic events that are turning people into werewolves. We also are reminded that traumatic events can come from family just as much as it can come from war. Seeing the events that turn Jayna were tough. She’s had a rough start to life and it didn’t get easier for her after becoming a werewolf.

One thing that really increased the action in this story, was the fact that the group of bad guys are also werewolves. Jayna’s pack has been working with Albanian mobsters. She believes that she is doing dangerous jobs for these mobsters because her pack owns them money. She isn’t comfortable with the amount of danger that herself and her pack are put into for each mission. She still continues to put her faith in her pack alpha, because that is what a pack does. That is until Becker saves her.

Cooper continues to be the protector of the SWAT guy who is bending/breaking SWAT rules because he has found “the one” for him. I’m hoping that he will get his story told soon, so he can have some of those favors returned for him. There is also time spent with the previous couples from the first two books. It was a fun story and I can’t wait for the next book. After being able to binge through the first three, now I have have wait, I don’t even know how long, for the next book. *pouts* LOL

Narration
Abby Craden does another great job with the narration of this book. In this book she has the job of tackling the Albanian mobsters. I have no idea what an Albanian accent should sound like, but she had to create the accent of several different eastern Europeans mobster type guys. I thought she did a pretty good job with this task. She continues to do well with both men and women, pace and tone as well.

On mission to stop a new gang of criminals, Eric Becker and his team ends up in the middle of a shootout where the bad guys are a pack of wolf shifters and then Eric comes face-to-face with the most gorgeous woman he’s ever seen in this spellbinding paranormal romance.

Jayna couldn’t believe it when the SWAT guy helped her but she’s glad he did and the reader can’t help but get drawn into all the excitement as Jayna discovers just what a street-savvy thief and a hot alpha male police officer can do. The chemistry sizzles with extreme heat and completely takes Jayna and Becker by surprise but the relationship starts in the middle of a deadly situation and is full of emotional issues and bit of a trust issue that keeps it on a razor’s edge and these strong, charismatic characters demand that readers pay attention while the fast paced, smooth flowing plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, action and romance.

Anticipation builds as the story starts off with one heck of a shootout and the excitement only continues to build throughout the story as Becker tries to figure out a way to help Jayna and her pack escape a nasty situation but with Eastern European mobsters in the mix anything and everything could go wrong keeping everyone on their toes. With well written scenes and details painting such vivid imagery, it is easy for the reader to become immersed in the story and feel like they are balanced on the same knife’s edge as Becker and Janya as time runs out which guarantees that the reader can’t stop turning the pages.

I was completely spellbound by Becker and Janaya’s story, it was full of unexpected twists, exhilarating action scenes and a situation where Becker has to act outside the box which could land him in even hotter trouble adding to the juicy tension of the story, so there was no way I could put the story down and it seems to me that the SWAT team is only going to get better (and sexier), so I can’t wait to read the next one.

In the Company of Wolves is more action and less romance compared to the previous books in the SWAT series by Paige Tyler, but that's not a bad thing. Less talk of The One was a welcomed changed. But don't worry romance fans, there was a happy ever after and some smexy times.

What got me excited was more werewolf mythology coming to the forefront. Until now we've only seen alpha wolves. Ms. Tyler introduces omegas and betas and I love how none of them know all the rules to being a werewolf. The characters are learning about what makes werewolves tick as the readers do. It's like watching someone put together the pieces of a puzzle, just when you think you know what the picture will be there's a surprise piece that changes the landscape.

Jayna is a tough heroine with a crappy past and a dangerous present. Then walks in the handsome SWAT wolf, Becker and he makes her understand what The One is all about. The chemistry between the two is hot and sweet at the same time.

As Paige delivers another great story in her SWAT series, Abby Craden brings that story and characters to life with her narration. Craden and Paige is a great time in the paranormal romance genre. I can't wait to hear what the two brings us next with the fourth book in the series. I'm hoping its Cooper's story.

I absolutely enjoyed the book! It was fast-paced, exciting and dangerous! Becker and Jayna were perfect together. Their chemistry was off the charts and I loved how Becker respected Jayna’s boundaries and gave her time to get to know and accept him and his presence in her life.

Jayna is a strong wolf whose loyalty is unbreakable. I love her strength and her ability to overcome unimaginable circumstances.

What I really liked about the book was the introduction of the new wolves. They created a whole new dynamic to the series and I’m excited to see what happens next!

IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES is an engaging and entertaining read. I laughed, I cried and I couldn’t put it down!

In this book we have Eric Becker, a SWAT wolf who enjoys a woman in yoga pants, and Jayna, a reluctant criminal. They meet under unusual circumstances. He wants to protect her. She's in a bad situation and doesn't know how to get out. She trusts him even though she doesn't usually trust people. I loved these two. Eric is super sweet and patient, perfect for Jayna who had a rough start in life. This series is great. It is about the SWAT team but each couple and story is very different. I can't wait to read Cooper's story. He's always helping the other guys out and he deserves a happy ending. These books each stand alone.

And here we arrive at book three and I eagerly snatched it up so I could dive in to the world of a secret werewolf pack of alphas working as Dallas' SWAT team. Raw action scenes, sensual romantic build up as each wolf finds The One, and of course the suspense and drama that makes up a good story. This time, Becker and the other wolves of SWAT get a surprise when a new pack hits town and they're not playing for the good guys' team which causes a bit of consternation for Becker because a lovely she-wolf from that pack has him all knotted up inside.

This is book three of the series as I said and I suppose in a pinch, it can be read out of order. But I would recommend it in order as the explanations about the SWAT team, the werewolf world and hints at past stories build to this one.

Becker and the guys are sent out on yet the latest of a series of daring heists, but this time he gets two surprises. First, the criminals are werewolves, and secondly, his The One might be one of them. He goes with his gut and keeps her from being arrested by his team and then goes looking for her. And boy is she and her pack in a lot of trouble with ties to stronger rogue wolves and to the Albanian mob. Becker with the help of Cooper starts working to get her out of her situation while also convincing his she-wolf that soulmates and lasting love are real. Going undercover as a rogue wolf is crazy and dangerous, but he does it for Jayna.

Jayna has lived a tough life and it was only by being found and added to a pack of other misfits that she finds a family and a sense of belonging. But all that is threatened as their alpha moves them to Dallas and they are loaned out for stealing jobs to help pay his debt back to some Albanian mobsters. Jayna would walk away from the mess in a heartbeat, but she can't leave the other members of her pack behind. Then right when she thinks she is either going to be shot or arrested, a big alpha werewolf SWAT team officer hides her from his own team. Later, Becker finds her and promises to help her and the others. Jayna hasn't been given many reasons to trust outside her pack, but she does trust Becker even if he has the crazy idea that they are soulmates.

This was one of those unputdownable books. I was already disposed to like it, but it was even better than I expected. Jayna has a tough life and she is emotionally fragile though strong as steel to endure what she has. She has to be handled with kid gloves and it doesn't seem like a big alpha wolf on the side of law and order can do it. However, Becker is just the unique guy for the job. He is careful and takes things slow with Jayna, but he is fierce and protective, too. She comes to feel safe and how it is to be the object of care for the first time. It is always Jayna who holds her pack together and for the first time, someone comes along for her to lean on.

The excitement of the trouble within the pack and the cold-blooded mob guys right there was intense. Becker was undercover and I loved that nail-biting stuff of whether he would get caught and what would happen when he did. As a result, this did mean that the story was told away from the other SWAT members for the most part. Cooper (love this guy) played a huge part. I cracked up that along with covering for Becker at work, Becker had the poor guy feeling his tropical fish and would Coop please talk to them so they don't get lonely?

"Damn," Cooper said, "She's beautiful."
Becker knew that already, but after watching her walk back to his bedroom, he could understand why Cooper might point out the obvious. And if any other guy had said the same thing, he might have been jealous. But Cooper was like a brother.
"Oh yeah," Becker agreed. "If there was ever a woman made to wear yoga pants, it's her."
Cooper shook his head. "What is it with you and those damn yoga pants? I mean, she definitely looks good in them, but sometimes I think you have a psychological condition when it comes to your obsession with the things."
"Maybe. But did you know that twenty percent of women can orgasm while doing yoga?"
"How the hell would I know that? And more importantly, how the hell do you?"
"I read it in Cosmo a while ago."
Cooper opened his mouth to say something, but then closed it. Finally, he just shook his head.

p. 168-169 Becker and Cooper from In the Company of Wolves

The fight scenes were phenom while the slow to build romance and the passion there was good stuff, too. The romantic relationship was a modified fated mate affair, but it took its time getting there as it should under the circumstances. But I liked that the conflict made sense for the situation and the author let the natural conflict do its job without infusing more drama just because.

Have to put this out there that I loved the added werewolf lore that explained way more than the last two books put together. The books each seem to reveal a bit more at a time that I find fascinating about the author's refreshing werewolf world.

Can't wait for the next SWAT wolf to get his story and for more of the group as a whole. Those who enjoy the blend of the paranormal with romantic suspense should definitely give these a go. I've gotten more vested as the series progresses.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

"I don't know how many different ways I can say this for you to believe it, but you're the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. And if that means I have to leave Dallas to do that, I'll do it without a second thought. I love you, Jayna." - Eric Becker

Becker, you adorable, oversized puppy, you are so not good for a woman's heart! All this boyish sweetness is killing me!!!

Eric Becker is one half of the geek duo of the Dallas SWAT team of werewolves. And ever since Xander and the pack's leader, Gage, have found their soulmates, the young Alpha can't wait to meet his own, too. But he never thought he'd do so in the middle of a robbery - or that said soulmate would be a werewolf on the other side of the law. Still, he's convinced Jayna Winston is not just a mere thief - and now that he's found The One, Capital T, Capital O, he's not letting go no matter what.

All of you know I'm obsessed with Cooper - I still am, by the way. Well, I have to say, even Cooper was nearly shoved aside in my admiration list with this book. Because his best friend, Becker, was one serious attack on my sugar levels!

I'm not kidding! The guy was sweet as all hell, funny, and adorable! Apart from a very specific moment in the book - which had nothing to do with Becker personally and everything to do with my obsession with Cooper - I couldn't find a single scene where I got angry at him. He was a true gentleman, without hiding that yes, he does have a pretty high libido, thank you very much - and he still kept perfect control over everything, his beast, most of the mission, his hormones, his rage. Becker was like Mr. Perfect packed into a delicious hunky dose, and I loved every minute of his spectacular presence.

Jayna was another reason why this story was so brilliant. Not a common civilian, neither a fellow cop, like the previous leading ladies, this girl was one of the supposed enemies of our boys' pack. What came as a surprise, though, was that she had no interest in being there, yet she cared so much for her own pack, she kept doing it for their sakes. Even more shocking was the fact her pack wasn't half bad personality-wise.

So, if you think that this book is a light read just because it's Becker, and we all know the big goofball with the yoga pants fetish is not one for getting damn serious, you'd better forget it. Compared to the other two books, this one was an emotional roller coaster that had rusty nails on most turns and no safety seatbelts! Moral dilemmas, extreme danger and suspense, and most of all, a villain with no clear identity at first - a must-read for any self-respected romantic suspence reader out there!

P.S.: I loved the twist with Zak! Thank you, Mrs. Tyler! The way you take care of even secondary characters is one more testimony to your over-the-roof level of talent!!!

"I finally realized that I love you too. So much it scares the hell out of me. But I'm ready to face that fear and be with you - to be The One for you. Because you're The One for me." - Jayna Winston
