I'm really loving this comic series and it's only 3 issues in which is awesome. My one big problem with the series so far is that when Kamala becomes Ms. Marvel she looks like a totally different person and I hope that is linked to her feeling uncomfortable with the abilities and so by the end of the 1st arc when she becomes Ms. Marvel she's looks more like herself. I can understand some differences to hide her identity but how she becomes a whole new person, with white skin, when she's saving people I find problematic.

So, I'm getting a bit superhero-y at the moment - reading this, and Wonder Woman. And I have to say, just 1 issue of this kicks whole volumes of Wonder Woman's behind. Why? The writing. This is how you do it people! Last year I had Locke & Key and Rachel Rising to get excited about when new issues came out. I've still got RR of course, but I'm super pleased that I've now got this title filling the Locke & Key spot. It's a happy Wednesday when there's a new issue of Ms. Marvel!

There's a lot to this story that reminds me of Spider-man. The high school setting, the coming-of-age/getting used to new powers = puberty metaphor, and the humour. Which is all a Good Thing. There's also a moment in this issue that reminded me of Alice in Wonderland, another Good Thing.

Marvel should already be working on adapting this title into a film in a couple of years, it's that amazing.

I'm liking this series to the point where it is getting hard to wait a month for each new issue.

Lots of really great details in the art, like:

- a meat cleaver stuck in a parking meter
- Fat pigeons everywhere
- Kids falling while chasing soccer balls in the background

And plenty of silly signs throughout the city:
- New! Hot Pepper Bubble Tea
- Fair & Pastey
- Aunties and Androids
- Start a fight! Save our prisons!
- Business hours: All of them
- From Bruno's class notes: "1. Get the stuff 2. Mix the stuff"
- Asian Wedding Leftovers
- Half Price Torpedoes

These awesome details had me lingering on the pages long after I had finished reading the panels. The art style is really absorbing, too. It reminds me of a mix of Norman Rockwell and the styles of The Triplets of Belleville and L'Illusionniste. I love it!

The small details make this brilliant. Little signs in shop windows. Characters in the background doing stuff aside from the story. The different body types, skin tones, heights, genders all making it more interesting and real. Plus Khan is heartfelt and well researched.

Third issue, and this series is picking up steam. The storytelling is still excellent and now I can start to sense where Wilson is going with this. The character Kamala is slowly getting to grips with the fact that she has been transformed into something new, trying to deal with it while keeping parents and friends in the dark; a powerful metaphor for growing up.

Among several good scenes, there is one that sticks out for me, where Kamala is trying out her new powers in a locker room, becoming big as Alice in Wonderland and wrecking the interior. This, again has me thinking of the beginning of Spider-Man, where he discovers his abilities. Good writing.

So far, the treatment of the subject of Kamala’s Pakistani background and Muslim religious affiliation has been very much interwoven into the story and not in-you-face political correct grand standing. I like it, and I’m upgrading one star from my previous rankings of this series. But from now on, I’m probably going to wait for the trades, and read and review from there.

Poor Kamala, having to navigate being in trouble with her parents, her school, and her best friend? All while trying to figure out how her powers work? I guess "this is not what I planned" doesn't cover it. That cliffhanger is always shocking; it's so sudden.

4.25. This was such a good issue. It managed to balance action and quiet moments and saw Kamala try to grapple all the intertwining aspects of her life. I really enjoyed the characterisation in this issue, despite seeing the friendship dynamics previously, it really felt like we were having a look into Kamala’s personal life. Her friendship with Nakia, her friendship with Bruno, were both well developed this comic.

Also notable was the polarising parallels of Bruno and Vick, and Kamala’s inner monologue. I was done really well; seeing both sides felt natural because of the excellent formatting, it gave the audience considerably more information than the characters themselves and all the while it was hilarious seeing the conflicting trains of thought.

It was also great watching Kamala gain confidence in turning to herself - or *Ms Marvel* - for help. On the other side of the spectrum, it was so gratifying to see her humbled as her transformed, supposedly unstoppable alter ego. Furthermore, it was fascinating learning the lore and extent of her superpowers, something we haven’t had too much of before.

Surprise, surprise, I loved this. Kamala is struggling with her powers in this one and trying to figure out how they work while also getting into trouble. Every issue I’m falling more and more in love with Kamala. This one also ended on quite the cliffhanger and I can’t wait to continue.

In this issue, some interesting things are happening to Kamala since she rescued Zoey at the end of Ms. Marvel #2. Since then, the new Ms. Marvel has started to gain some recognition and notoriety. She is being featured on the news and everyone seems to be talking about her. While she’s worried about her identify being discovered, she is also still trying to figure out how to work her new powers. They are still a little out of control and she ends up finding herself in some awkward and uncomfortable situations in the middle of school. Eventually, she discovers someone she cares about is in a dangerous situation and she decides to put herself in danger to rescue them. Unfortunately, things don’t turn out the way Kamala plans.

Like I’ve said before, I’m loving this series and this character. There aren’t too many criticisms coming from me.

Pros: I love the character of Kamala more and more with each issue. I love her awkwardness and confusion. I think she is just absolutely wonderful as a new superhero coming to terms with her abilities.

I also really enjoyed her uncomfortable moments at school in this issue. It was quite amusing when her powers began to act up and she tries desperately to hide before anyone notices.

Cons: The only thing I could nit-pick about this issue was that it seemed to take a little bit for anything to really happen. The beginning of this issue is really just Kamala still trying to figure everything out. Even though she does have a few entertaining moments alone, the story doesn’t really seem to progress until after half-way through.

Quotable:

“Do you think it’s possible for a person to just…wake up different? Like all of a sudden, the normal rules of physics don’t apply?

“I’m afraid I’ve gotten myself into for-real-rest-of-my-life trouble. Either that, or I’m about to have the most amazing life any girl from Jersey City ever had.”

I am so in love with this character and this series! Kamala is quirky and fun and completely relatable. With each issue, I begin to look more and more forward to reading more about her and her new identify.

I would continue to recommend this comic to just about anyone! There are details and aspects that almost anyone could enjoy.

Have you started reading about Kamala’s experiences becoming the new Ms. Marvel? What do you think?

I love the morsels of Classical Arabic from the Qur'an in each issue. And, if this issue is to be believed, Muslim Sunday school isn't much different from Christian Sunday school--or Jewish Sunday school, which is what I experienced. Meanwhile, Kamala learns more about the perks, and limitations, of her new-found powers. More than the first two issues, Ms. Marvel #3 ends on a classic comic cliffhanger. Thank you, G. Willow Wilson, for reviving my interest in comics.

I'm completely in love with this series and I've only read 3 issues which is rare. I think this has to do with my deep seated love for all things Marvel so of course this was going to be no exception.

I really enjoyed this instalment, I thought it was interesting, and the art work is just absolutely fantastic.

This issue was a lot more eventful in terms of moving the story along. For the majority of this issue, Kamala is still trying to figure out how to work her powers and how to cope with them. I love the fact that this series touches on dramatic changes, such as gaining super powers, in such a realistic manner. It delves into the crisis of identity; Kamala is afraid of how her new powers will fit into her life, or if she'll even fit in at all. It's something very real that I have a great appreciation for. Lastly, DAT CLIFFHANGER DOOOOOOE.

Love the art and the writing.

The struggle is real, even if you haven't suddenly gained superpowers, no matter what social class, age, ethnic group, country, or religious faith you belong to.

What does it mean to have powers? To be able to look like someone I'm not? What if I don't fit into my old life anymore? Like it's a pair of pants I've just outgrown? Would I still be Kamala?
