Of all the dark sapphic romances I've read, this is definitely one of my favorites. The chemistry between the assassin Vera and her target Elaine is completely captivating. The evolution of both characters from who they are in the beginning to the women they ultimately become is realistic and well paced. Fans of dark sapphic romance will love this one. I'm eagerly anticipating the next release in the Penumbra series and seeing what's in store for the family.

You would never know this is a debut dark sapphic romance. One of my fave author’s has outdone themselves with this story. So captivating and engaging from start to finish. Thank you so much for the advance review copy for free. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I never would have thought I could read about an assassin and absolutely swoon. Vera has depth, growth and would literally burn down the house for Elaine.
Elaine is one of the strongest, kindest and well rounded characters I’ve read. If you don’t love her, there is something terribly wrong with you. ;)
From the moment they are swept up in each other’s lives their connection is complete, whether they know it or not. The way they balance one another out and compliment one another was perfectly done.
Very well paced with glorious steamy times that flowed with the story. Deliciously dark, healing and intoxicating.
Highly recommend!!

ARC REVIEW
Multiple 1st Person POV. 5🌟 4🌶️. 346 pages

I LOVE a dark romance, so you best believe when this arc arrived in my inbox, I simply couldn’t not wait to dive right in!
It’s sapphic, it’s dark and slightly twisted and a mafia romance to boot, so of course it was going to be right up my alley.
Vera - our deadly assassin has so much depth to her character and a surprisingly soft side, especially when it comes to Elaine, her apparent mark. I loved Vera’s character arc, from cold blooded killer, to vulnerable and soft and willing to burn the world for her love
Elaine - the delicate flower, with a traumatic past. Elaine’s character had a strength that is enviable. Her characters growth throughout was amazing to read, from doormat to strong leader, willing to face off with those that want to kill her.
I loved everything about this book. The darkness, the chemistry, the character growth and especially the found family element. I cannot wait for part 2, for more from the Penumbra family
Till Death do us Part will be released September 20th! Be sure to add it to your TBR, you won’t want to miss this one

Witty, irreverent, and absolutely hilarious.
Which is not what I expected in the beginning, when I found out Vera was supposed to marry some woman and then promptly kill her.
Vera's dead inside and certain she can't actually develop feelings for anyone. Elaine just got shoved into the strangest experience of her life. Oh, yeah, and Vera decides that in exchange for her protection, Elaine will submit to her whenever she pleases. Talk about hot.
And, in true wlw fashion, they catch feelings hard and fast. Well. Who can blame them, right?
The rest of Penumbra is equally enthralling, though I'll let you figure all of them out on your own.
I love a good mafia romance, and this is no exception. What IS an exception, however, is the bedroom relationship between these two. My god. I love feral women, tyvm, and the Wolf is absolutely, undeniably one of the most feral I've ever seen. So hot.
This book had me laughing constantly, blushing frequently, and worried it was all about to go wrong in about a dozen places. Absolutely incredible. Will definitely be reading more from this author.

A killer with surprising depth and a sensitive side—at least when it comes to Elaine.
Even she is surprised by this, because Vera thinks she has no heart, no good soul, and no regard for other people.
She is a killer, and always has been.
She killed her own father, for God's sake—so why not Elaine Whitner, too?
Because she’s far too good to be killed?
Too good for this world?
Better than anyone else Vera has ever met?
It doesn't hurt that she’s an absolute knockout—though actually, it *does* hurt, because while Vera has to marry her, she also wants to use her in a way she really shouldn't.
She *can't* do that!
Elaine is better than just being used to satisfy Vera's pent-up lust after the kill... it would be sickening, wouldn't it?
Basically, the story is packed with chaotic, dangerous characters who come together as a group intent on killing each other, only to ultimately form a fantastic new unit.
I found it highly entertaining and am excited for Part 2.
Vera and Elaine are incredibly hot together. I love the chemistry! Thanks for letting me be part of the ARC team!

Violence, Vows, and Vendettas
In the criminal underworld, love is a dangerous weakness, but sometimes it is the one thing worth killing for. A hit was supposed to end with a body, not a marriage. Vera is sent to kill Elaine, but when a massive inheritance puts them both in the crosshairs of rival mob clans, becoming wives may be their best chance at survival. Their unlikely alliances pull them into a brutal game of shifting loyalties, shocking betrayals, and explosive violence, where falling for each other may be the most dangerous move of all. Till Death Do Us Part delivers the danger and drama of a criminal mobster story with all the smolder and steam of a mafia romance.
Vera is a deadly assassin who has spent her entire life being taught that attachment is weakness. She is cold, ruthless, and convinced there is nothing good left in her, which makes seeing Elaine slowly break through those walls so captivating. Elaine may seem delicate at first, but she is relentlessly fierce when it matters, refusing to let the damage done by her own family harden her. She refuses to stop looking for the good in people, even when that person is a killer like Vera, and she sees the woman underneath all that violence long before Vera can see her herself.
Their chemistry is intense from the beginning. Vera knows exactly what she wants and has every intention of taking all of it. Even when their intimacy begins as something transactional, Vera remains aware of Elaine’s physical and emotional limits and creates a dynamic that feels intense without ever losing its trust. What starts as a feral give-and-take quickly becomes something neither woman expected, and their intimate moments shift naturally alongside their growing feelings. There is something deliciously dark about a romance built around two women who were never supposed to fall in love.
The other players in this game bring their own brand of chaos, loyalty, and dangerous gambits to the table. Elaine’s sister Caitlyn may be physically vulnerable, but there is nothing fragile about her. When it comes to protecting the people she loves, she is absolutely fearless, highly intelligent, and dangerously perceptive. Petra is the kind of chaotic force who will dive headfirst into the fight, throw a punch at Vera, and have a snarky comment ready for both. And Yulia adds an entirely different kind of tension, a ruthless mobster whose carefully held moral code becomes harder to reconcile as the truth starts coming to light. Together, these women become something stronger than the families they came from because this time, they are choosing each other.
Beneath the violence, bloodshed, and chaos, the story keeps coming back to what happens when the identities forced onto us stop fitting. It explores the difference between the family we are given and the family we choose, the strength that comes from letting others stand beside us, and the possibility of becoming more than the roles carved out for us. Love does not erase the darkness or undo the past, but it can give us the freedom to decide what comes next and who we want beside us when we do.
Huge thank you to the author for the chance to read this ARC!

I am a big fan of this author’s work under her other name. When I saw she was branching out into dark romance with a mafia trilogy I had to see what she had in store for us readers. She did not disappoint!
This tale of Vera and Elaine grabbed me right from the start. Vera is an effective member of the Blackbirds, a ruthless criminal organization. Elaine is her mark—the not-so-lucky inheritor of a plot of land in the shipping yard that is vital to controlling that area. And the Blackbirds and their rival, Whitecliff, are trying to get to Elaine first to secure ownership. This isn’t a simple take out the mark and move on scenario as the inheritance rules make it so that Vera winds up rescuing Elaine from attack and then marrying her to secure the inheritance. Now all that’s left to do is take out the mark and leave Vera as the sole owner of that land. But what’s a girl to do when the mark gets under her skin?
Vera can’t seem to stop rescuing her and can’t bring herself to kill Elaine and is very perplexed by these facts. And this is where the story really takes off when the two, along with a few others, form their own new criminal organization, Penumbra.
I think that’s enough potential spoilers, but rest assured that the assassin gets the girl ;)
What I found most surprising and enjoyable about this story was how it lived up to the name Penumbra, the space between the dark and the light. This book has plenty of dark elements, but there is also a lot of humor and lightness to it. The MC’s are great, but I also really loved the supporting characters, particularly Petra and Caitlyn. I really hope romance blooms between those two during the remainder of the trilogy.
I think the other two elements of the story that I really enjoyed were the concept of found family within a criminal organization. Definitely something that queer and trans folks can identify with. And I loved how strong these women were, not just physically in some cases, but more so their strength of character. Their determination not to fail and to be there for one another, no matter what it might cost them.
So if you’re looking for a dark romance that’s a bit different from the norm, and has lots of depth to the characters, be sure to check out Till Death Do Us Part.

Weddings and murders, crime and a... kitten!
“That sounds like the library provided you a valuable service. Did you thank the librarian?”
“I did not.”
Important lesson number one: always thank your librarian!
Important lesson number two: if your mafia crime family assassin wife owns you, then you are hers, in every way.
Such is the theme of this cozy crime family assassin story with a helping of spice and domme/sub, set loosely in Merona.
There's humor, plenty of fights death and destruction, abusive parents, morally grey and troubled heroines... and a kitten, to round it all out. (oh and an off-page dachshund, but he doesn't get much page time).
A fun action story of high stakes and higher hurdles, we're thrown into a mish-mash found family with baggage and heart, wheels and wheelchairs, a wedding that isn't until it is, and 5 fiesty women who show up for each other. I especially liked the dancing around and mutual teasing of Petra, relegated to the task of driver, and her de-facto ward and verbal sparring partner, Caitlyn, who drives her own wheels and proves herself far more useful than anyone expected. I sort of think these two steal the show - along with the kitten, Clara - and hope to see them again!
All in all a fun read in the "cozy vengeance" genre that seems to be blossoming of late.
I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily, and if you like a bit of cheery killer banter, some snark and stabbing, and persistent felines with your persistent heroines, this is for you!

I've read a lot of Eva's other books (under Lily Seabrooke) and have always enjoyed them, so was looking forward to what she could bring in a darker, more violent world.
Till Death Do Us Part was an excellent story overall. Eva does a wonderful job really making the reader care about these morally grey characters, while also painting the antagonists in a light that makes you root for their downfall. Watching Vera not only overcome her blunt assassin mindset but also unpack and heal from past trauma was very rewarding, and Elaine was the perfect character to do that. There's no question as to why Elaine was the woman Vera needed on this journey.
There were a couple action sequences that ended with a vaguely deus ex machina resolution, but not at the expense of derailing the momentum (and honestly might not even be that noticeable for most people).
If you're looking for quick wit, great action, and characters you are constantly cheering for (and don't mind a lot of nameless background characters meeting their ends), definitely give this a read. Looking forward the the next in the series!

I loved this book! A dark mafia assassin/target romance that becomes so much more. The chemistry between Vera, a Blackbird assassin, and Elaine, an unsuspecting librarian, is sizzling. The secrets and betrayals, crazy choices and and downright idiotic decisions will leave you screaming at the characters (if you're anything like me). The action sequences are well crafted and leave you on the edge of your seat.
The characters are great, from the disgruntled driver who feels her skills aren't being appreciated, to the disabled little sister who has suffered far too much parental abuse but has some impressive skills nobody expected, to a heartless assassin with much more depth than anyone knew, plus one who is soft, strong, and vital to the success of everything.
This is a wonderful start to Penumbra, and I cannot wait for the next installment to see where the fate of Merona takes us next. If you love dark sapphic romance, if you love a great mafia story, you absolutely must pick this up!

Welcome to Merona, My Friend!
Enter Merona, a city of criminal gangs and clans, if you dare. Life is cheap, the government is corrupt, and violence is rife. (Yeah, so pretty much like most of the world right now.)
Till Death Do Us Part: A Dark Sapphic Mafia Romance (Penumbra Book 1), by Eva Nightingale, kept me on the edge of my seat. Unrelenting action. Unmitigated lust and heat. Characters I both adored and reviled (sometimes at the same time).
This story is dark, dark, dark. Not only due to current murder and mayhem, but from a history of sustained family trauma. I know Till Death Do Us Part is full of criminals and assassins, but I found Elaine’s Mother to be the most terrifying character in the book. Sometimes the most realistic danger is the one that hits hardest: the alcoholic mother, the abusive father, the controlling boss. The daily grind of abject poverty. The fact that crime DOES pay—often far better than legitimate work—leading to graft and corruption at all levels.
So, again. Welcome to Merona, my Friend. Enter if you dare.

Vera is a heartless assassin. She sees herself as nothing less than a “monster”. She’s been tasked with keeping her target safe long enough to kill her.
Elaine works tirelessly to appease her mother and make life easier for her family. Unbeknownst to her she’s inherited some land that puts her in a dangerous position between two feuding gangs, and puts a target on her back.
Loved the main MCs. Vera and Elaine are completely opposite but definitely bring a balance to one another.
Loved the side characters, especially Petra, Yulia and Caitlyn, and the inclusion of their POVs throughout the story. I’m hoping future books delve into their stories, especially Yulia’s.
Overall it’s a fast paced, enjoyable book. It’s intense at times with great banter and the steam is steamy 🥵
If I could change one thing it would be the use of two words. The words, “my wife”, are repeated so often you’d be inclined to make a drinking game out of it, but I fear you’d end up with alcohol poisoning as a result 😅
Other than that, I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series 😊

Till Death Do Us Part is a high-adrenaline, sex-and-murder kind of romp. Emotions are heightened, problems are solved with efficient brutality, and characters cut to the quick. This isn't the kind of book that'll slow burn anything - anything left to simmer is just waiting while a heist is happening.
The sex itself is frequent and brutal too - Vera is a very demanding and possessive domme, and Elaine is not afraid to meet her head on. Honestly, I found Vera's thirst a little adorable - her first sex scene, alone, is just a wonderful time.
The emotions on display are big - family abuse is dealt with first and brooded on later, loyalty to chosen family has to be acted on, and trust must be given or taken away at the edge of a knife or the end of a gun.
If that sounds like your jam - give a try to this high octane world of mafia, murder and mmmmsex!

September 21, 2026I was SO excited to receive an ARC copy of Till Death Do Us Part from the author, Eve Nightingale, and it absolutely did not disappoint!
This is a dark sapphic mafia romance, and I loved it. I really enjoyed the characters, especially Vera and Elaine, and their slow-burn romance. I also loved the secondary characters and the different relationship dynamics throughout the story.
This book has the same fun vibes I’ve come to enjoy from this author’s usual writing under a different pen name, but with a much darker, twistier mafia and organized crime setting.
What really stood out to me was the characterization. The characters felt deeper than surface-level stereotypes, with their own motivations, flaws, and complicated relationships.
A fun, dark, twisty read with plenty of sapphic romance. I loved it!

Not my line, but I know y'all are lying with these 5 star reviews.
I was promised dark romance. This is not dark romance, this is light fluffy romance where one character happens to have a dark job.
Not to mention, she's shit at her job! Don't save the cat, don't drive back into the city to get a fucking dress because your hostage wants to!
This completely undermines the stakes and believability.
For fucks sake, the trope works because someone who is hardened, cold and uptight eventually can't help but give in to affection. It doesn't work when your hardened mafia assassin immediately falls for the equivalent of "ummm I asked for no pickles."
Why do they get so blushy around each other constantly after five minutes?
Aargh

What a great read! Mafia dark romance. Lots of triggers. I loved Vera who is a killer by trade and feels like there is nothing decent about her in any way. She is instructed to get Elaine and keep her alive only until her land can be acquired. This is a dark story with lots of violence and lots of trigger warnings. Elaine is from an abusive home and barely managing. Vera has hungers she assauges in sexual ways. Together they are great. When Vera is unable ot murder Elaine you know things have really changed. Watching more and more be revealed and understanding the backstories makes this a rich read. Now I am patiently waiting for the next installation.

I received a copy of this book from the author's mailing list, and I really enjoyed it! The first act was positively electric and I read it in an afternoon. I found the second act similarly excellent, if beginning to lack some of the dark romance tropes that I came to the story for. The third act, while cleanly executed, felt a bit drawn out for me and treading more into the realm of traditional romance. That said, it's one of the best mafia romances I've read, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for sapphic spice and definitely for anyone looking for mafia romances.

The writing was done alright, and the idea behind the story I think will capture a lot of interest by those especially who love action/adventure/assassin type themes. But I do believe that's where this story kind of lost me personally. I did like the characters for the most part, and there is some spice in this book. Dark desires type of spice though so if that's not your thing (ie: degradation) then you may want to skip this one.
I'm looking forward to more done by this author, but I think this "family" I'll be skipping due to personal tastes

Wow what an phenomenal story, I loved the main characters their way they both thought they were not good enough for each other, but the vulnerability made them see each other clearly while the violence was closing in. They found love in a dark place it made them stronger together as well as their new formed clan , i couldn't put it down its a gem of a book highly recommended a must-read congratulations

Touch her and d!e
Arc review
What a fun and sexy ride! I really enjoyed this. It has some of my favorite tropes, touch her and die and hurt/comfort. Though this focuses on our hot af couple, Vera and Elaine, we get some other POV's which usually pull me out of the story but I found myself really appreciating here. The spice had me blushing in the best way and I'm invested to follow this found family for hopefully more stories to come!

A lovely stray into dark romance by the author, with mafia romance being one of my favourite genres. Eva does the dark tag justice in terms of actions on the page, but I can't help but feel that tonally it isn't quite as dark as it claims to be!
Overall, the relationship evolution is well done, and I'm curious to see what the other books in this trilogy will be!
Please note that I got this book for free as an ARC reader!

Action packed book with strong female leads. I liked the way the story was told from different characters perspectives which gave further incite into their personalities & experiences. Had a bit of everything - violence , mafia , action , burgeoning relationships , sapphic fabulousness . Looking forward to further stories.

Till Death Do Us Part is a sapphic mafia romance that takes fake dating to a whole new level. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. Bring on the action, betrayals, and drama mafia style.
“Thank you, Author Eva Nightingale, for providing this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.”

Lots of trigger warnings at the beginning but I don’t think it was as dark as I then expected. I was rooting for the mc’s and happy to overlook the murdering and violence.
I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

This book by Eva had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next, lots of twists and turns. It is definitely worth reading to understand the complexities of the characters within this story and how they came to be.
