Sandra finally has it a stimulating career in the big, modern city of Toronto (check), great supportive friends (check), a live-in boyfriend Alex who brings her breakfast — okay, just burnt toast — in bed (check, check).
The rug gets pulled from under her when Alex suddenly decides that his life needs a makeover and she won’t be a part of it. Sandra’s hopes of walking down the aisle in a “sexy but classy” white dress or pushing a baby pram with Alex are crushed. Enter her two witty best friends Anika and Veronique, who create an intervention for a rejected, dejected a week-long getaway to the beautiful islands of the Bahamas.
What sets off to be a relaxing vacation turns out to be a sizzling escapade Sandra won’t soon forget, after she spends her final night on a luxury yacht with a handsome Brit, Thomas Evans.
Sandra returns home resigned to the fact that she will never see Thomas again, and tries to put all men business behind her. She is single, happy and becomes increasingly consumed with a new and exciting path her life is proposing-pregnancy!
Fate has a different plan however and unexpectedly throws Thomas back into her life. Will their Caribbean flame reignite, giving Sandra another chance at love? Or will Thomas’ ex, famous model Tiffany re-emerge permanently to crush yet another chance at Sandra’s happiness? Can Sandra manage a pregnancy and a love triangle?
Unexpectedly Expecting is a work of fiction that depicts friendship, love, life’s difficult decisions and its unpredictable twists. It is an easy read but not a simple story. As the reader gets drawn into Sandra’s fascinating journey, she will find herself hooked on the richness of the characters, captivated by the story and cheering for love to prevail.

One of my fondest childhood memories is that of going to the local Public Library with my mother. She would make her way up the old creaky stairs to the adult section, while my sisters and I rushed downstairs to rummage through the new selection of French books. We were allowed two books each and took hours selecting the first.
Time is suspended when I read or write. I alternate between books that educate me (psychology, historical fiction, literature, memoirs...) or I will choose a great story that makes me laugh or simply entertains me (chick-lit, romance, biographies)... When I am not working as a psychotherapist, or spending time with my husband or two young children, I like to escape in my own writing (chick-lit) to lighten my mood and keep my creative juices flowing.

Unexpectedly Expecting is by Sophia Labonte’. It is a cute book that is easy to read and quick to read. It is a little predictable but most romances are. This is definitely a different kind of romance which makes it more interesting. Sophia Labonte’ has a way of taking a normal situation and turning it into a humorous situation. At the same time, it deals with some serious situations.
Sandra is devastated. Her boyfriend, Alex, has broken her heart and broken up with her. This was after dating for a long time and finally moving in together. In spite of this heartbreak, she continues to work hard to make her language school a success. She and her partner Veronique have worked hard for this and it is paying off. Her partner and friend Veronique and her other friend Anika decide that it is time for Sandra to get over Alex. Nothing would help more than taking a vacation to the Bahamas.
On their last day, Veronique and Anika met some very nice and rich men who had a large yacht. They and their sister invited the women to join them on a dinner-party cruise that night. They were very excited to go and even told Sandra there was a nice British bloke that they thought she would be interested in. During the evening, Sandra and Thomas, the British bloke, did hit it off and ended up having a one night stand, something Sandra just didn’t do. The next morning, she tore up the business card he gave her with his contact information on it. She just couldn’t see a long distance relationship working. A few weeks later, she wished she had the card when she found out she was expecting!
After debating a long time, she decided not to tell Thomas about the baby until she was six months along when the greatest danger of losing the child was over. She would let him decide if he wanted anything to do with them or not. She would not push for any support or even recognition if he did not want it. Then when she was four months along, she ran into him on the streets of Toronto and found out he had transferred to Toronto from England. He had also gotten back with his girlfriend, Tiffany who was a model. He wants to be involved with the baby but Tiffany isn’t so sure. Sandra isn’t sure she wants Tiffany as a stepmother to her child.
Problems and situations continue to develop as the story develops. This makes the book quite interesting and the humor is great. You can read the book easily in a day or even an evening.

After a heartbursting breakup, Sandra allows her friends to whisk her away to the Bahamas so she can nurse her wounds and move forward. The trip turns out to be just what she needs, and Thomas—a successful and sexy Brit—turns up at just the right moment. Convinced he was nothing more than a passionate one-night stand, she tosses his contact details and heads home to Toronto. It isn't until a few months later that she realizes the error of this decision, when she bumps into him, pregnant with his child and seeing how caring of a man he truly is. Alas, he is in a serious relationship with a stunning fashion icon and model named Tiffany, who wields a heavy hand over Thomas and, in turn, Sandra, in a love triangle that makes for a highly entertaining read.

This was a cute and diverting story, and I had a lot of fun reading it. If you are looking for a playful read while relaxing on your beach blanket this summer, you'll certainly find it in Unexpectedly Expecting.

This novel is ChickLit at its best. I got to learn of the protagonist’s inner mind and all her friends’ minds too. They are supportive of each other’s fears and foibles and there’s a catty bitch they have to deal with.
What starts as a Caribbean fling develops into an unintended pregnancy. And we are off to explore all the choices—ethical and romantic—that this brings on. The writer’s style is fluid and straightforward in its exposition of life’s romantic pitfalls. That for me is quite an achievement. The book reads very well and scores highly within its genre. Recommended.
