I don't know if this is the answer. You might want to take real music lessons instead.

Fundamentally sound

Good book for beginners or refreshing lost music reading skills. It could be used in conjunction with YouTube's video if you are a visual learner. It's fine for what it advertises to be, a primer. As the author states, playing an instrument is an acquired skill that is developed over time.

It was pretty okay. I think to learn music, it's better for me to have an instructor. Cannot rely on a book.

I had to abandon this book. It is certainly not written for total beginners. I did not get very far before the author started assuming that I already knew the basics and could discuss music theory. I can't even locate the notes on the scale yet! I might try again in a few years but this book is currently far over my head.

Too Compact

Too much information too quickly. A little more advanced than for a real beginner, I don't play by ear. I was confused as to how eighth and sixteenth notes get counted. I liked the way the it was organized, however. It was easy to read.

Solid, and quick overview of how to read music. Good reminder for those of us who learned as a child, but haven't used the skill for years (uh, decades!P)

Great for a review

Shot yet concise and very easy to understand. Can be read in one sitting. Don't expect to be an expert.
