Tampa homicide lieutenant Carl Kane has led up grisly crime scenes before, but this one is different—it’s identical to the remains left thirty years prior by a man who had whipped the city into chaos.
But Jack Redding, or as the media called him, The Quilter, had been put to death in the nineties. These murders are the doing of a copycat—someone with inside knowledge of the original crimes.
As the bodies pile up, the motivation for the killings and the connection shared by the victims become clear.
Kane must race around the clock to find the person—or persons—responsible for recreating the work of the most heinous murderer Tampa has ever seen.
Little does Kane know his path will lead him to one of the most horrifying scenes he’s ever witnessed. In his line of work, and after recent events, that’s saying something.

This was a decent book, well-written and fast-paced. The no-nonsense voice of the author had a Dragnet vibe and the prose were a lot like reading a screenplay. At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the lack of emotion from the characters, the main character in particular, but once I realized that was just the author's style, I went with it. I normally prefer characters that live and breathe on the page. I still enjoyed the story. Predictable, yes, but compelling nontheless.
Each of these books is better than the last. The action is continuous and there is a lot of gray matter working with clues and solving the case. This is #5 and I can't wait for #6. LT Kane's life seems to be growing by leaps and bounds. Marriage, baby, house, promotion are all coming toward him. Life is good, but he has another case right around the corner.
I enjoy the Lt. Carl Kane series, but this featured case was too gruesome for me. I did finish the book in the interest of advancing plot points with the characters (Kane and Callie especially), because I do plan on reading Denouement next, and I wanted to know the advancement of all the characters.
I usually say I loved the book; but this is very very scary and sickening! It was a page turner! I I thought up almost to the end thst the criminals were going to win! I not going to tell you the reason it was so scary; but these two serial killers were very prolific!! It will make you think twice about jury duty!
Lieutenant Kane recognizes the MO of the next killer, but he has been dead for many years. Searching for the killer leads Kane to those who were mentally unstable and trained for this pastime.
A biological mother and her recently rediscovered daughter create chaos in Tampa. Lieutenant Kane and his coworkers seem to be driving all over the Tampa area trying to catch up with them. This is my favorite Reinhard series.
Absolutely gripping. Reminded me of the movie Silence of the Lambs a bit but totally different. Scared the heck out of me in parts but enjoyed it nonetheless. All of these novels would make a good Netflix series by the way!
Setting is the beautiful Gulf Coast city of Tampa, Florida. Everyday big city crime occurred, then there was a Zinger thrown intro play. A wonderful mystery thriller!
TO MUCH EXPLORING EVERY DETAIL AND MOVEMENT MADE IT VERY BORING FOR ME. SLOW. THIS CHARACTER REMINDED ME OF JAME GUM/BUFFALO BILL IN THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS OR THE REAL SICKO ED GEIN. I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE MORE EXCITING BUT IT WASN'T. ALOT WAS GOING ON BUT IT WAS STILL A VERY BLAND READ. ;<
Even though these books are fiction, they make you think too. Could I hurt another person if my loved ones were in danger, could I work as police officer.
Oh. My. Hooked. Loved it! Absolutely can not wait for the next one to come out! I fell in love from page 1 and couldn't put it down!! Highly recommend!!
This gripping novel had me captivated from the beginning. It was gruesome, but not overly gory. It was easy to read and flowed really well. Well written!
