A cursed alpha wolf promises to free an enslaved Mage if she mates with him so he can sire an heir, not realizing she can destroy the dark secret keeping his pack alive.
Bonnie Vanak fell in love with romance novels during childhood. While cleaning a hall closet, she discovered her mother’s cache of paperbacks and started reading. Thus began a passion for romance and a lifelong dislike for housework.
After years of newspaper reporting, Bonnie became a writer for a major international charity. She travels to destitute countries such as Haiti to write about famine, disease and other issues affecting the poor. When the emotional strains of her job demanded a diversion, she turned to her childhood dream of writing romance novels.
She lives in Florida with her husband Frank and two dogs, where she happily writes books amid an ever-growing collection of dust bunnies.
Redemption is book four in the Werewolves of Montana Mating Mini by Bonnie Vanak. This little book packs a fair amount of story into it.
I’ve tried Ms. Vanak Werewolves of Montana series and those did not impress or leave an imprint on me to read more, but the Werewolves of Montana Mating Mini series, at least this book Redemption, really drew me in. It was an intriguing tail that placed two determined people on a collision course with destiny and each other.
There where several areas that I got very emotionally involved and felt for both our leads Robert and Aurora. Robert runs hot and cold on his emotions, I get it, but it was very hard to read; especially how he acts towards Aurora at times. As for Aurora, the portrayal of her loneliness was magnificent and I felt deeply for her. We also get a few surprises, twist, and turns that add to the story.
The only thing I did not like are the wizards in this series. They seam cruel and petty.
Redemption was an emotional and captivating read. It can be read as a stand-alone.
Rob, the alpha of Molly's pack (and her uncle) from the previous story, has been given a slave, Aurora, by the Shadow Wizard. He's been told to mate with her so he can save his pack. Doing so will lift the curse that is wreaking havoc on his community. But Rob doesn't trust Aurora, who is a mage (he had a bad experience with one once, to say the least) and she's not a wolf shifter. Nor can he fathom what she'd done to make the Shadow Wizard enslave her, so no trust there. She's also on a secret mission for the Shadow Wizard, so she sneaks around a lot taking care of that. Aurora doesn't trust that Rob will treat her well consistently. She's used to being a slave and being abused, so she's waiting for the other shoe to drop tries not to trust it when Rob gets nice. But he doesn't agree with slavery and wants her willingly as a mate - she of course claims to be willing, but underneath it all knows she doesn't really have a choice. The two are both working towards their own ends, but they are attracted and realize they can work towards their goals together. That is...until Aurora realizes the accomplishment of her goal will mean the end of Rob's dreams...
So this book started out strong. Aurora's plight was pretty bleak and desperate and her angst really came across the page. I felt for the poor girl. Rob was a nice guy, but he was sort of clueless about how his behavior frequently hurt Aurora and made her feel even more isolated and unappreciated. He also failed to really consider that a slave isn't able to give willing consent because a slave is subject to retribution for going against the master's wishes...nevermind that Rob insists he would never do that...it's not what she's learned after years upon years of slavery. So even though he's giving her a choice, she comprehends that she doesn't really have a choice. And although she thinks it constantly, Aurora never points this out to Rob. That kind of got in the way of their romance for me. And honestly, I'm not sure it felt like Rob and Aurora really fell in love. Lust, sure. But right up until the mating, I didn't think they actually loved one another. It probably wasn't until Rob that I really believed it...but I wasn't feeling it. But this wasn't really that bad. It was honestly a pretty decent story throughout.
What pretty much ruined the reading experience was Cadeyrn and Tristan's revelation that they had made Aurora a slave back when she was a teenager because WAIT. WTF? You enslaved a teenage girl...took away all her freedom, made her worry about her baby sister, caused her to endure years of beatings, abuse, fear and humiliation because of THAT?!?!? I'm now convinced that Cadeyrn and Tristan are complete assholes, thank you very much. And the fact that neither Aurora, nor Rob, who supposedly loves her, is beyond pissed on her behalf was really disappointing. One of the wizards mentioned as in passing, Aurora confirmed she'd heard correctly and then just shrugged it off as though those years of torture were absolutely nothing to her. If I'd found out it was for such a stupid reason, I would have gone postal on their asses.
Also...getting mighty tired of the way this author overuses and repeatedly MISUSES the word jettison.

Having read a previous book (yes, A book) in this series, I can say I really like this world. Werewolves do it for me, man. They do it. BUT... I'm very conflicted about this book.
Character-wise, I liked how Aurora's loneliness came across but I COULD NOT get behind the reason why she was imprisoned and abused for half her life. What the wizards subjected her to (and I'm going to be purposefully vague here to avoid spoilers) made me ragey and pretty much made them (the wizards) seem cruel and petty.
Did not like.
But... I did like so much else about this book. I really liked the aforementioned portrayal of Aurora's loneliness. I wasn't keen on Robert's hot and cold emotions, but I understood where he was coming from.
It was just that one thing that threw me out of the story. I have no sympathetic feelings for the wizards after what they did. None. Regardless of why they did it, the whole thing just pushed all my buttons and gave me a sad face.
Well, this was an unexpectedly good read. It kept me up all night reading. A good grown up fairy tale and the first book of Bonnie Vanak's I've read. A little too contemporary pink at times, but a good story. I'll be reading more of her stuff as there are interesting characters waiting to tell their stories.
Very well written, kept my interest, and could not wait to see how it ends. The characters were believable and a little bit different take on werewolves, especially when you throw in wizards. The epilogue was a head's up on the next book.
I have not read other works by this author so really didn't know what to expect from a story so far into a series. It good by itself but I think I would have understood more if I had a better understanding or the world these characters are in. The constant reminders that they can't trust and that there is good reason not to be trusted was a little over done. I wanted the story to just move on. Usually with shorter stories I feel cheated out of moments not the problem with this story. I kept waiting. Finally things get moving and it is all over too fast. I didn't love it or hate it. *In the book bundle Dark and Damaged.
An intriguing tale that places two determined people on a collision course with destiny and one another. I really enjoyed the plot and how the story played out. The characters were okay for me. In truth I was more curious about the wizards and the dragons then the main characters since this was the first book by the author I read I didn't get the full world that was created with previous books. I did enjoy the read and am curious as to what happens in the next book. I would recommend this to any werewolf fans looking for a hot and sexy read.
Really enjoyed this story..I love wolf shifters and really like the idea of starting a dragon shifter spin off series. Robert and Aurora's relationship sets off at a rocky pace..But eventually they do get it right. I like that we get to see more of the Wizards who "try" to control what happens to each of the packs..And we need more of the back stories on them.. Hope there is more of the Wizards to come.
I Loved this story. I couldn't put it down. It was well written with complex and amazing, wonderful characters. Sorry I don't have more words for you but, I'm eager to move on to the next book. I'm off to read Waiting now. I know it's not technically the next book but, who says I have to read all the mating minis together. LOL! Be back with more adoration for the amazingly talented Bonnie later.
I found the overall storyline interesting, but I struggled with it in a few places. I haven't read any of the other books in the series so that may have had an effect. Interesting concept for fans of paranormal romance.
Surprises, action, mystery, and woman that is just a little too snoopy for her own good. I really enjoyed this book as with all of the authors stories in the series.
I still can't wait for Aiden' s story.
I read this a year ago but wanted to bring it to this forum.
A nice little shifter romance. I really loved Aurora. Robert, on the other hand, I only liked. However, decent story, decent romance, very entertaining.
