This is Book 2 in the Charlotte Denver series.

The old man from Book 1, Tom Potts, who had just turned 100 years old, has died and his children and grandchildren are in town for the funeral.

Tom Potts was a great favourite in the town of St Eves and everyone loved him. Well, everyone except his kids. It turns out that his children and grandchildren were quite greedy and rude.

There was a rumour that Tom has won the lottery and so his children were desperate to find this ticket and get the money. They each had a reason for needing the money.

But during the search for this lottery ticket, one of Tom's daughters was murdered and several days later, there was also a murder attempt against Charlotte as well.

A murder attempt against the main character is not a common trope in these type of books, so I was very intrigued to read this book - Number 2 in the series. I am certainly intrigued enough to continue reading the series.

Charlotte Denver is the local cafe owner at the marina in St Eves - a town where there have been no hard crimes for years, but suddenly, they seem to be happening all the time. This time, it's the highly unlikeable Miranda Potts, daughter of recently deceased St Eves resident, Tom Potts.
Reading the second book in this series directly after reading the first was a little too much cutesy and a little too much amateur detective to stomach. The residents of St Eves really are stuck in the previous century, everyone is a caricature, and discovering the murderer a little too easy.
A cute, light read.

In this second book of the serie Charlotte and Nathan investigates a murder of a daughter of deceased Tom, old inhabitant of the town who was a regular client of Charlotte's cafe. The book is nicely written and I enjoyed reading it. I will be reading the next one very soon.

Fifth book of my holiday reads.

This is the second novel in the series and as much as I enjoyed the first book, this one I really loved.

Even if you haven't read the first book, it doesn't matter as this can easily be read as a stand alone.

As with the first book there is some fab recipes for anyone who enjoyed cooking. Another enjoyable read in the series and very much looking forward to the next one.

Sometimes all you need is just a fluffy cozy mystery and this delivers. It's been 4 years since I read book 1 of this series but it didn't matter, I got right into the characters quickly. What is strange (or maybe just formulaic) is that during this time I read another cozy mystery series with almost the exact same sort of set up as this (H.Y. Hanna's Oxford Tearoom series). It didn't dawn on me that the two are practically identical in set up till I started on this book.

The similarities:

- Cafe/tearoom run by a local girl (albeit a returned-home girl in Hanna's series)
- Beautiful best friend who also works at/runs the cafe
- Main girl has a short/pixie cut
- Convenient boyfriend cop
- Main girl does some detective work and seems to be better at it than the boyfriend (or just more nosy?)
- A gaggle of gossipy old biddies adding color to the cast of characters
- A suddenly adopted pet (Muesli the cat in one who was the pet of a suspect, and Pippin the dog in the other who was the pet of a dead neighbor)
- A cozy cottage that the main character acquires

I still have more books to read in this series, but so far am enjoying this one a bit more. Hope Charlotte can stand to remain less annoying than Gemma. Interested to see what other parallels I can find as well.

I enjoyed the first book in this series and this maintains the standard. Whilst there are still some issues with Americanisms in the book, they are more than compensated for by the quality of the writing, the descriptions of the characters, who are all, good and bad, easy to relate to.
The story revolves around an elderly man who just passed away, and his very objectionable family arrive for the funeral and pick over his belongings. Things get more interesting when rumours of an unclaimed lottery ticket start circulating. This leads to a murder, and as the main character, Charlotte, is left a bequest, she finishes up in danger as well.
The plot is satisfyingly complex with lots of red herrings to distract the reader and is nicely counterpointed by the descriptions of everyday life which are scattered about the book.
If you are looking for a good fun read, which has a clever plot and feel-good ending, then this is an ideal choice.

Excellent storyline and very well written. 1st book I've read by this author and have downloaded book one. Definitely want to follow this series. I loved the dog in the story, he made it more interesting. It was a very well written mystery and keeps you guessing as to who the killer is. But it has an amazing ending so I'm onto the 1st book before I start number 3.

Well written with good character development and good plot. I like how Charlotte just tumbles onto clues & information instead of purposely going after it, leaving Nathan to do his detective duties. Very refreshing change from most woman sleuth cozy mysteries.

I enjoyed this book - it’s the second in the series, Charlotte Denver runs a cafe in a fishing village in Cornwall - there’s a murder, interesting characters, a very cute dog - and a handsome police detective. It’s a cute series, well worth your time.

This series is cute, fun and great to read on a cruise while by the pool. Characterizations are really a strong area, but add so much to cozy mysteries.

Although I had read this before, it was still a fun read. Loved every word. And was amazed that karma played such an important role. You reap what you sow😄

Charlotte Denver, owner of “Charlotte’s Plaice” in St. Eves. She has advanced her relationship with the Police Chief, Nathan Costello. Life is going very well, or is it?

Second book from Sherri Bryan, you can tell she’s fitting in comfortably with this series. Great read!

Another winner from Sherri Bryan. This book is fun and exciting. I love Charlotte Denver and all the other people of St. Eve's. It's a kinky little town. But it suits them.

A Wonderful Mystery!

This is the second book in the Charlotte Denver mystery series. It takes place in a small seaside village in England. It opens with Charlotte & her friends coping with grief at the funeral of their cherished friend, Tom. Enter his obnoxious family members who appear to only be interested in how much money Tom left them. The reader is then transported through a murder & numerous dysfunctional family dynamics. However, we are also shown the love & strength of Charlotte's & boyfriend Nathan's relationship. Charlotte is a warm & caring person which is demonstrated quite often. The author did a great job of drawing me in & making me care about her characters & how they survived the different situations they are thrown into. I thoroughly enjoyed this book & can't wait for book 3! There are also some very delicious recipes included at the end. I also expanded my vocabulary looking up many British terms used in the book that I was unfamiliar with being an American. (I did guess that aubergine was what we Americans call eggplant!)

This is a fun, fast read. Charlotte Denver's friend and oldest citizen of St. Eves has died and his awful family has come to handle his affairs. A winning lottery ticket rumor makes the family even more desperate. When one of the heirs is found dead in the street, killed with a stiletto heel; it seems every one of Tom's family has a reason to kill. Charlotte tries to stay out of the investigation, as her DI boyfriend asks, but she keeps being pulled in. When she learns she is one of Tom's beneficiaries she is attacked.

I really like the Charlotte Denver mysteries. This is the second book in the series and was even better than the first!
This book was everything I hope a cozy mystery will be: great characters, a setting I would like to visit, a good plot, and a merry chase to find out whodunit. As a bonus, there are fabulous recipes at the end of the story. My mouth is watering over the Aubergine with Spinach and a Parmesan Crust.

Charlotte is knee deep in a murder again

Book two of this series is an excellent story. A life lo e friend and resident has passed. Bring in the family
of gold diggers who have not visited in years. Add a murder of one of them and the plot thickens. Will Charlotte live to get her share of the inheritance. Read book two to find out.

Obnoxious Clan

Nice little story about a man who died, Tom Potts, whose greedy obnoxious family are looking for a winning lotto ticket. Before he died Tom won the lottery but no one knows where the ticket is. Marjorie, one of his kids, is murdered because it is agreed that she would be the one to hold the ticket when it is found.

Delightful

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is cozy but there is a depth to the plot. It has a feel good ending not just because of the solved murder but because of the characters that are nice to each other.
