Sphere of Irony #3

Resist: Gavin

Rate this book
All Gavin Walker, bass player for the multi-platinum selling band, Sphere of Irony, wants to do is surf, play music, and occasionally get laid. The problem is that Gavin has a stalker. A potentially deadly one. The threats he receives always mention something about Gavin being gay, which isn't public knowledge since the record label wants to keep it quiet.

Mitch Hale used to track serial killers for the FBI. A life-changing incident led him to quit the bureau and start his own company providing computerized security for Los Angeles' wealthiest people. Mitch doesn't know anyone when he moves across the country from D.C. to California, and all he has for companionship is a pathetic string of failed relationships with women.

When Gavin's manager hires Mitch to find the stalker, the men instantly hate each other. Despite the constant fighting, attraction between the two blazes hot, confusing the former FBI agent. Spending time with Gavin forces Mitch reflect on what he's denied about himself for the last ten years. Listening to Mitch's plan to catch a madman thrusts Gavin's personal life out in the open for the entire world to see.

Can Gavin and Mitch stop fighting long enough to stop a stalker before someone gets hurt? Or will they stubbornly resist the feelings that develop when they're forced to work together?

This is book 3 in a 4 part series. It is a spin-off of the Famous Series. These can be read as standalones.

Heather C. Leigh is the author of the Amazon best selling Famous series. She likes to write about the 'dark' side of fame. The part that the public doesn't get to see, how difficult it is to live in a fishbowl and how that affects relationships.

Heather was born and raised in New England and after spending 15 years in Atlanta, GA, currently lives north of Houston, TX with her husband, 2 kids, and French Bulldog, Shelby.

Heather loves the Red Sox, the Patriots, and anything chocolate (but not white chocolate, everyone knows it's not real chocolate so it doesn't count) and has left explicit instructions in her will to have her ashes snuck into Fenway Park and sneakily sprinkled all over while her family enjoys beer, hot dogs, and a wicked good time.

My favorite authors are Dan Wells, Ken Follett, and Stephen King.

Happy reading!

Sort of just stumbled upon this one. I haven't read a rock-star book in awhile. Why not?

I haven't read the others in the series and didn't feel like I was missing out on anything.

There was some pretty good build up and sexual tension. Gavin and Mitch had a bit of a love-hate thing going on for a good bit of the book.

I prefer my books a bit steamier but this one had some steam.

And the suspense was pretty good. It kept me intrigued most of the book.

Overall, not a bad read but it didn't wow me.

The pissy rockstar and the ex-FBI profiler

This is another middle of a series that I read as a standalone. Though this is Book 3, the previous characters were not featured heavily, so it didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the story.

Gavin Walker is the pissy rockstar who had a stalker. Although he didn't try to deliberately hide his sexual orientation, it still not a public knowledge. Gavin is trying to keep himself on the down low in order to help preserve his band image.

Mitch Hale is an ex-FBI profiler who had been hired by the record company for the investigation/security. He is a gay who tries to be straight. Mitch never had any relationship with man, while his relationship with women failed miserably.

Gavin is very much pissed off and scared shitless of his situation, while Mitch is trying to handle a celebrity with a temper tantrum. Putting these two men together and watching their interaction is like watching some addictive soap TV. There are some screaming match, some push and pull and a healthy dose of sexual tension in the air.

Actually Gavin reminds me of Seth from Guns n' Boys series without the cooking skill. He can be such a drama queen and a total diva with his attitude. But is damn entertaining to read his outburst and his lust for his straight babysitter, which he nicknamed 'Utah'.

Heather never gives us a detailed description of the threats, so I'm not getting the nervous energy that surrounds them. I would have appreciate if we get the nitty-gritty details on what makes Gavin terrified.

I'm on the fence when I was reading the first half because the lack of suspense on the reason explained above and too much of fighting between Gavin and Mitch, but I love the second part, whereby the romance and the suspense kicked up a notch. I'm even intrigued with Hawke's story. I want to know his secret past.

Think: The Bodyguard but with gay sex.

Mitch: I’m NOT gay! Even though I can’t get it up for women and find men attractive. I’m somewhere in my thirties, but I refuse to admit I am gay!

Gavin: When I don’t feel comfortable I act like a child. When I do feel comfortable I am still somewhat of an asshole.

Mitch: I can’t be gay, I need to push Gavin away.

Gavin: Mitch is so hot, I can’t think and must act like a child again.

Mitch: Gavin is so hot, we need to have hot gay sex while I’m on the clock and trying to protect him. It’s totally fine to screw your client while you’re trying to protect him.

Gavin: I bet Mitch is sorry anything happened, before he can hurt me, I must hurt him!

*** Terrific thriller with complicated issues, *** a great "who done it" search for a stalker.
Gavin has been at the bottom, attempted suicide because of his dad,

but now is part of a successful band. He's doing great, but being stalked, written to, and a trail of unsavory "gifts" , has him unraveling.
Former FBI Mitch is taking on the job of

finding the dirt bag who is tormenting Gavin.
Their attraction is shocking each of them,

because Mitch has always been straight. So, in this GFY story, Mitch has some re-thinking to do. Is he gay?, Bi?, or is it just Gavin that does it for him.

The two men are going to be close to each other for awhile, so we get to see what happens in close quarters. We have an escalating stalker, the fear growing in Gavin, the frustration of Mitch, and the rest of the cast, also.
When they get together, these two man are so hot and sexy, oh my !

First times for Mitch. We also get action, a shooting, the break-ins and the shocking finish.
This is a series , but I started with this one and it stands alone.
Highly recommend this sleek, flowing tale.
ENJOY !

First it is important to note, I read this book as a stand alone and loved it!! I had no issues following the story or understanding who was who so if you love male- male stories or rocker books, or if you just love discovering a new author, I recommend this one!

Second if you know me personally or have followed me on social media, you likely know I lost my brother and only sibling to suicide. I think it is important to know that about me before I say WOW, the opening of this book is so powerful. The reader truly feels Gavin’s pain and is with him thorough the book as this scene and the events that lead up to it weave back into this wonderful story.

Words like this pulled me right into this:

"I've always loved the ocean. It's peaceful on the outside, but as they've always said, looks can be deceiving. Under those blue-green waves lie torment and fury and the ability to cut a grown man down. Sort of like me, beautiful on the outside or so people tell me but inside, I'm a twisted wreck of anguish and self-hatred."

Resist is the story of Gavin Walker, bass player for the multi-platinum selling band, Sphere of Irony and Mitch Hale a former FBI agent hired to keep Gavin safe in the face of a stalker whose actions are escalating.

This book has a lot of twists and turns that worked and were woven together to make this a "keep you glued to your kindle" kind of book.

I don’t often love the use of a movie or song reference in books but Gavin calling Mitch Johnny Utah, a reference from the movie Point Break was perfect! And this line from Gavin had me laughing out loud!

"Holy shit. Johnny Utah is a bottom I think I just died and went to heaven."

The "who" Gavin’s father is and his background, tying into Gavin’s upbringing and overlapped into the end of this book was powerful and heartbreaking all at the same time.

Mitch’s family was such a contrast to this, as these parents face something they never thought they would hear from their son, “I’m gay” they have to deal with losing their son or accepting him.

In the end, Gavin’s Mom pulled at my heart and proved in spades how important communication is and how even as adults we do truly crave the love of our parents.

I should add that the chemistry between Gavin and Mitch was off the charts, it is so clear to the reader these men are it for each other; watching each men get to that place kept me engaged and rooting for them.

This is a really well done “gay for you” story for Mitch’s character. Hearing Mitch speak of trying to be with woman in the past all the while he is undeniably attracted to Gavin painted such a clear path to "what" or rather "who" Mitch’s happy was… he just had to accept he was gay and overcome a work relationship to do it..oh and watch the stalker set to kill Gavin.

Yes, once I wanted to strangle Mitch, but I understood why he did it and it worked for the character crafted.

Experiencing Mitch overcome all of that, all the while Gavin has to deal with who his stalker is and to overcome the heartbreak of his past make for a happy for these two that warmed my heart!

I am so excited for Henry “Hawke” Ross, drummer for Sphere of Irony story in Wreck: Hawke , http://amzn.to/1Kekqdj.

Given how Hawke and Gavin meet, this one has me dying to read it (nope not telling you how they meet - read the book)!

Where, oh where is my review. My original review has disappeared, UGH!!! The second go around is never as good as the first, especially when 20+ days have passed, and probably 20+ books since. But let's give it a try.

This is my second Heather C. Leigh. I enjoyed this one a lot more than the first.
The main reason is I LOVE M/M. ADORE M/M. WANT M/M. NEED M/M. GIVE ME, GIVE ME, GIVE ME, GRABBY HANDS M/M.
 photo 7640_e847.gif
I've loved Gavin since I meet him in book 1. Rock star-check, surfer boy- check, completely chill- check, perfect. Throw in some suspense with super stalker, who seems to know all the secrets in his closet.
 photo large-9.gif
Then bring in Mitch. Oh, how I love a man in uniform, even if it's no more. And tons of angst. The tension was so heavy I wanted to scream. I wanted to throw my iPad and scream just get on with it already.
Still not completely crazy about the writing style, but it was still an enjoyable book.

First read by Heather C. Leigh and I was a bit leery because of it being the 3rd novel in the series however yes I will confirm with all that is in me that this can be a stand-alone because not at any time did I feel like I was missing something or needing more. Now, onto the good stuff. M/M romance quickly became my favorite genre to read, if executed correctly and a BAM she did that. Again I was nervous going in because although I do like a rock star I feel like they are played out (sorry my opinion). I was surprised that the “rock star” feel took a backseat to the main story line.

Heather C. Leigh gave me a story full of passion, angst, love, mystery and rage. I feel in love with Mitch and he desire and need to protect and watch out for Gavin. He portrayed such a strong character and I felt like he was exactly who Gavin needed in order to truly be himself behind closed doors and out in the open. My heart broke for Gavin because the people who are supposed to love and support you unconditionally weren’t there for him and basically turned their backs leaving him alone. When Gavin’s stalker starts escalating into bat shit crazy in walks Mitch to “protect” Gavin and their lives will be forever changed.

There is nothing better to me than 2 hot men come together that are both a bit alpha, both a bit sweet, both a bit rough around the edges and both a bit shy in their own way. Sparks ignite and tempers flare. It becomes a battle of will to see which ones caves first on the electric pull the 2 have for each other and when their wills break my panties melted. Gavin and Mitch together was a fantasy wrapped up in a pretty pink bow.

I also fell in love with the storyline, the mystery behind who is doing it and why. In one way I wasn’t surprised by some of the involvement but then holy jingle bells I was utterly shocked about something else that was discovered. Things started getting ready and scary at this point. Now that Mitch and Gavin had grown closer together the situations happening around them started to get scarier and closer to home. At each turn I didn’t know what was going to happen. Although I know why it happened I was fuming with anger at one point and wanted to smack the stupid right out of him. Who you ask? Well that my dear friends I will not tell you. Why you ask? Again, I’m sorry you will have to find out for yourself.

Overall Resist is a novel that you can’t resist and will most certainly fall in love with. Mitch and Gavin are not only both strong characters but also characters that have softer sides that you can’t help but melt for. It also doesn’t hurt that when they are together and the closes and walls come down it creates a moment and scene you will never forget. After reading Resist I have come to the conclusion that I will be looking into this author a bit more and see what other M/M romance novels she has because this one was amazing. If you like/love this genre and you love strong alpha males that are stubborn and push all the right buttons than I suggest you quit resisting and dive right now. Hot Sexy and all around great romance novel.

5 Heart Review by Amber

Oh my GOODNESS….I was so apprehensive about this one. The blurb sounded FANTASTIC then I realized that it was a part of a series that is solely mainstream romance. My past experience with this sort of thing hasn’t been stellar but there have been some gems so I sucked up my apprehension and dived head first into this story. HOLY HOTNESS!!!! Crap, this author can write some M/M romance….DAMN!!! And it wasn’t just the sex (which was friggin HOT) every scenario was so intense from the drama, the passion, the suspense…everything was so well written! AND the angst was beautiful…I’m a very proud ANGST whore….and this was so beautifully done…I loved the angst!!!!! I was IN IT….from start to finish….once I started it I couldn’t put it down….I LOVED this book!!! Keep in mind, I’ve never read any other books by this author or from this series….I was not lost, not one bit. Everything worked so well…wow…well done!!!

Mitch is an ex-FBI agent who now dabbles in computer security. Doing a favor for his cousin he signs on to consult in a stalking case involving gay celebrity guitarist, Gavin Walker. Gavin has been the victim of a stalker for awhile now but he never really understands the danger he is in. Being thrown together with Mitch is unexpected for Gavin. He’s crazy attracted to the ex-FBI agent and he’s struggling trying to hide it. Things aren’t easy for Mitch either. Having denied all homosexual urges for years, its constant torment to be around Gavin, who is essentially almost irresistible to him.

As the danger intensifies so does the attraction between Gavin and Mitch, and when these two collide….just DAMN!!! From the moment they meet there’s this tension that is built and it’s undeniable.

Being in Mitch’s head is gut wrenching….his denial is heartbreaking and the shame…ugh…I felt his pain….but his surrender is friggin MAGICAL!!! Damn, this author made it all so worth it…everything was worth it….these two together was beautiful.

The mystery/suspense aspect wasn’t obvious, in my opinion, not until later. It was shocking but made sense as things start to work out.

I truly loved everything about this story. I loved the band; their loyalty to Gavin was amazing. Even Mitch had a close circle that made me happy. There was nothing not to love. And even though I don’t read M/F romance I do want to know who Hawke ends up with…that’s how bad this author sucked me into the story. I’ll stalk her just to read the blurb to book 4, LOL!!

Lastly….GET THIS BOOK….!!

This review was originally posted on Cocktails and Books

I have to say, I was very surprised with how RESIST started. Gavin always seemed like the fun loving member of the band, so I was taken aback when I discovered that Gavin was not exactly what he appeared.

Gavin was very much a tortured soul. Tortured by his father's abuse and his inability to be who he really is in the public eye weighed on Gavin. Add to that a stalker who seemed to be taken his game to another level, you get a Gavin who is afraid to go out in public, who's almost afraid of his own shadow and terrified of what could be lurking around the corner. His saving grace seemed to be his friendship with Hawke, until a very hot and confusing ex-FBI bodyguard comes into his life.

I loved Mitch. For someone who wasn't out of the closet and was completely confused by Gavin, I loved how he couldn't help but go alpha male for Gavin. He may have outwardly appeared like he was rejecting Gavin at times, but you knew he was drawn to Gavin and it was only a matter of time before he finally was honest with himself and went after what he wanted.

As always, Heather C. Leigh created an emotionally charged story that was hard to put down. Once I started RESIST, I was completely immersed in the story. Gavin and Mitch's emotions seemed to jump off the page and had me staying up way to late to get to their HEA.
Another solid read by Heather C. Leigh and a great entry into the Sphere of Irony series.

Usually, I don't read M/M romance books, but as I have discovered in the past months that I LOVE Heather C. Leigh's writing, I knew I had to read Resist. OMG I LOVED IT!

We have Gavin Walker, the spoiled, bratty bass player for Sphere of Irony. He is gay but the record label doesn't want it out, so it's not public knowledge. The problem is, he has a potentially deadly stalker, whose threats always contain something about him being gay. Then we have Mitch Hale, an ex FBI profiler with his own company, who was hired by Gavin's manager to catch the stalker. He lives his life straight, but is confused, so all of his relationships with women have failed. The two men hate each other on sight, but there's an attraction that can't be denied. Will these two men stop fighting long enough to stop resisting the feeling that won't be denied, plus catch the stalker before anyone is hurt?

Not only did this story have Criminal Minds wild suspense, but it was HOT! I totally loved Mitch and Gavin, even though I really wanted to slap the crap out of Gavin quite a bit. Their spark and sexual tension was so SMOKIN HOT! Heather C. Leigh has a brilliant writing style to me. Her story of two men falling in love was very well done. The character development was fantastic. It was full of twists and turns, with a cherry on top twist I did NOT see coming. Once you start, you will not be able to put it down until the end. I can't wait to read Hawke's story next. HIGHLY recommend Resist!

ARC copy received.

I was extremely excited to receive this book especially after reading the blurb... and boy it didn't disappoint. I love a good gay for you story and while this wasn't strictly under that label, it most def had some makings of it. Some of the sex scenes in the book was off the charts hot, and the suspense factor during the storyline was also really addictive.

This was my first book by Heather C Leigh and most definitely would not be my last.

I love M/M books and this was no exception. LOVED IT!! The chemistry between Gavin and Mitch is electrifying. Their constant fighting makes it that much hotter!!

Gavin is a rock star and he is gay. His father never accepted it and always berated him. Gavin struggles through it and comes to terms that he is his own person and moves on with his life. The label he works for does not want him to go public with his sexuality. Gavin is being stalked and the incidences keep escalating.

In comes Mitch ex FBI agent and now has his own private investigations company. Something has always been off; he has struggled with it his whole life. His mind struggles with what his body wants. He agrees to take a job as Gavin’s body guard to protect him and to see if they can track down the stalker.

First encounter, Gavin’s thought as he stares at Mitch:

“The door opens and a man enters. No, not just a man. A gorgeous man. Stunning actually.”

“The man is a study in opposites. His hair, swept back from his face and so dark it’s nearly black, is paired with bright slate grey eyes, a color I’ve never seen before. He looks rugged and dangerous, as if he could kill a man with his bare hands. Yet he’s wearing a tailored and expensive charcoal grey suit that showcases his body to perfection. He’s rough and he’s polished.”

“And I can’t stop staring.”

As the story developed I had my suspicions of who could be the stalker. When I found out who the stalker was and the why, I was stunned. The suspense and the need for Gavin & Mitch to finally give in to their feelings for each other had me sitting on the edge of my seat; not wanting to put the book down.

The supporting characters blend in with the story and help make it all come together nicely. Heather C. Leigh’s writing flows and makes this an easy read.

Although this is book 3 of A Rock Star Series, it can be read as a standalone. I am now going back to read books 1 and 2.

I was provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Hot damn. Heather C. Leigh has produced an awesome book. Her sexy rock star and his badass man grab your attention and do not let go. Their tempting new release, Resist is a fast paced suspense novel that keeps you on your toes. I loved every moment and definitely recommend it.

Mitch and Gavin. Holy hotness. If they had a Facebook status it was be ‘it’s complicated’. Besides it being the worst time for two people to try and get a relationship going – they’re dealing with a serious stalker situation – neither man is out. How do they admit what they are feeling when they have yet to tell their absolute truths to their families and friends.

In the beginning of the book, these two spend a lot of time being angry and frustrated with each other. That little detail didn’t stop me from praying for the moment that Mitch and Gavin gave into their lust and passion for one another. The build up and sexual tension was intense but slow – lots of trust issues with these two men. They both needed to feel something more – they needed trust and friendship.

Their journey toward happily ever after is a crazy, emotional ride. Not only do you hope they both make it out alive but you also hope that they are brave enough to get through it together. Their romance is an incredible story.

This was my first book about the Sphere of Irony band and even though it’s the third book in the series, I was able to jump right in without any confusion. However, I enjoyed Resist so much I plan to go back and read the first two books. The band members are hilarious and entertaining with lives you don’t want to miss out on.

I can’t wait to get my hands on more. Definitely check out Mitch and Gavin’s book.

Gavin Walker, bass player for Sphere of Irony meets Mitch Hale when a stalker tries to kill him. Mitch used to work for the FBI and specialized in finding serial killers. They both have a lot to hide as they try to work together to find the criminal who is making Gavin's life miserable.

Gavin is gay, but has not come out publicly yet. He has been told the band will sell more records if he looks straight and single. He leads a normal life behind the scenes, but publicly follows the rules.

Mitch has had encounters with other men in the past. He has currently been trying to figure out why he is not interested in the woman he has been seeing for a while. She no longer turns him on and he is happy when she leaves. This confuses him, since he thinks he is a straight or sort of bisexual man who seems to be turned on by men. Mostly by Gavin Walker.

Gavin gets notes from the stalker even on tour, so the next time they head out - they take Mitch with them. They disguise him as one of the employees who is supposed to be there. They also hide the bodyguards as best they can.

Mitch is finding it hard to resist the major hottie that Gavin is. No matter what he does he cannot stop wanting to touch him, kiss him and just be around him all the time. Gavin, in the mean time wants to find someone to love.

Such a sweet, and honest story about love and connections that cannot be controlled. I found the banter so cute and the sexy times HOT! A great addition to an all ready superior series.

Where to even start. Probably by figuring out how to work the A/C in my melted mind state.
I absolutely loved and adored Gavin and Mitch. They were a pair that would have never managed to stay friends, much less lovers if they hadn’t been thrown into unpredictable and dangerous situations.
Mitch is asked to protect Gavin from his stalker that has just raised the stakes. Gavin is constantly looking over his shoulder, his life turned upside down by the threats and “gifts” from an unknown source just because of his sexuality.
The stalker’s efforts double, tensions escalate, and a sudden need to protect and have one another, Gavin and Mitch give in to the inevitable.
But Mitch is straight! Or not, which is fantastic for us readers.
Gavin is irresistible to me, and he’s not standing in front of me so I can only imagine the struggle Mitch goes through and it is no wonder that his walls break down and he gives into his attraction to Gavin.
Gavin is over the moon that tough, ex FBI agent Mitch wants him. Mitch wants Gavin safe, happy, and in a bed (not picky on whose).
But they can’t forget that just because they have discovered and crumbled to their desires, the stalker is still out there and now that Mitch has come out as Gavin’s boyfriend, Mitch is now in danger as well.
Will they find the stalker before it’s too late? Or will one more thing spring up that leads them to something neither of them saw coming?

ERIN'S REVIEW
5 STARS

I wasn’t sure that this series could get much better but I was blown away with this book. Gavin and Mitch set the pages on fire. You will need a fire extinguisher, lots of water, and dry panties on standby. Gavin is a great character. He is not in the closet, but he doesn’t flaunt his sexuality for everyone to see. Mitch suspects he might be attracted to men, and when he sees Gavin he knows he is. The chemistry between these two is fire starting. I love to read a story, doesn’t have to be m/m, where the characters learn so much about themselves. Mitch and Gavin both learn that there are most definitely things worth fighting for. Mitch struggles with his new perspective on life and worries about the fallout of his choices. Gavin knows that there are those who don’t accept his lifestyle but he is not going to change for anyone. I was absolutely thrown by the twists and turns in this story. The author did an amazing job of not making this story predictable. It kept me hooked till the end. I can’t wait to see what is in store next!

3.5 stars!! I really enjoyed this one, MM with mystery and suspense, we have a man in a band and an ex FBI profiler...think Criminal Minds! I loved the story and it was engaging and I couldn't put it down, but right from the beginning I felt it was more a case of instalust. I never got that connection between the two characters and even as their story progressed I just didn't feel it in my heart. I am an emotional reader and I have to believe in it and sadly with these two I just didn't. However, the plot went some way to making up for that as I was engrossed and trying to work out who the stalker was. (full review to come)

I received an ARC of Resist.

Resist, in my opinion, is the best book in the Sphere of Irony series so far.

It's hot. It's suspenseful. It's full of sexual tension. And it's full of love.

I'd recommend this book, this series, to anyone wanting some actual story to go along with all the romance. Heather C. Leigh delivers nicely in this one.

A very enjoyable read :) I didn't know what to expect from this one, and frankly it's not usually my "thing" to read the third book in a series, even though these are stand alone ones (also the two couples from the previous books don't show up that much). I really liked both MC and the fact they were two strong willed men, yet they somehow completed each other, both having a more sensitive compassionate side as well as being able to defend the other (mentally and physically). I gulped this one in two days after a WHOLE week of not reading a WORD (moving and studying t-o-g-e-t-h-e-r tend to do that..) so I was really happy I was sucked right into Gavin and Mitch's story and didn't want to let them go.

Gavin struggled with being gay his whole life (mostly his father's disapproval), and even though now he has occasional hook ups, he is unable to truly act upon his desires since the label his band is under doesn't want the fact he is gay to surface. Not very helping is the fact he has a stalker who KNOWS he is gay and recently started to escalate his behavior to more than mere threatening notes.

The label hires Mitch, a former FBI agent who specializes in profiling, to help find the stalker without involving the authorities. Mitch and Gavin DON'T get along right from the start. Gavin had enough of people trying to control his life, especially the stalker putting a break on the things he enjoys, so more restrictions are NOT welcome. Mitch just sees a spoiled brat who should be smarter than that and realize he NEEDS to listen to him in order to lower the risks of being hurt by the stalker.

That's on the surface. Under the surface both Mitch and Gavin are VERY attracted to one another. For Gavin it's mostly frustrating because Mitch isn't just an employee he is also straight, or so he thinks.. Mitch isn't straight but he is unable to even admit this fact to himself. He was never truly attracted to women and struggled to maintain relationship with them only to fail each and every time. Also his only semi sexual experience with a guy was a total and absolute disaster who quite frankly shattered him. Yet he can't hold off the desire he feels for Gavin, and so after a while and a whole lot of Gavin all around him, he comes to accept his true feelings and desires, and as these grow and they start to act on those desires, the friendship and affection starts to bloom as well.

description

I"m not sure what I feel about the buildup of their relationship (which is why I can't give this one a solid 5 star rating). I thought the attraction was a bit OTT and also I"m not a fan of attraction winning over total dislike. Yeah it worked in the end beautifully, and when they came to realize how much they mean for each other, I was totally in love with the both of them and how sweet they were together, the sacrifices they had to make with the stalker starting to ump his game big time.

There were hints along the way to who the stalker might be, but in the end I had it all wrong. Though I'm not sure if I liked how it played. Something in the final confrontation scene didn't "click" for me. But I liked how the story ended not just the HEA, the whole ordeal they went through helped both of them find closure and acceptance of themselves which was beautiful to read.

This one was quite an emotional ride. Mitch had a lot in his past to deal with, not only that specific bad (gay) experience, but also the whole concept of being gay and what it means to him, to the people around him (like his parents). Gavin also had a horrible up bringing with his father trying to make a "man" out of him forcefully. It was truly heart breaking.

I gotta say, with this being such an enjoyable emotional as well as very sweet ride I'm curious to try more books by Heather. Yet, since I"m quite swamped with books and VERY little time to read at the moment it would sadly have to wait a while.

I kindly received this ARC from "The Rock Stars of Romance" in exchange for my honest review.

Resist by Heather C. Leigh is the third book in the Sphere of Irony series. If you are new to the series, it’s okay, you don’t have to back track and read the first two books. This book can easily be read as a stand alone novel or in series order. I can guarantee that after reading Resist you will want to read the first two books in the series.

The thing that makes this series so exceptional is it’s uniqueness. For one thing the band Sphere of Irony has it’s own unique make up. Two of the members are from the ghettos in London and the other two members are from tinsel town, Hollywood,CA. Two come from impoverished rough backgrounds and the other two come from priveliged back grounds. Together these four men have come together not only to make music but have became brothers. They fully support each other no matter what their record company, fans, and lives dictate. The other thing that makes this series unique is the characters themselves. They are not your typical wild and spoiled rockstars. They are very grounded and try to lead ordinary lives while being at the top of their careers. They have experienced it all and held onto their true selves. With the exception of one, he has to hide a part of himself. Because of the band’s popularity and his good looks, the record company wants him to hide his sexuality. He is a gay man with millions of women as fans.

Gavin Walker has had to hide his sexuality his entire life. He had to hide being gay in his early years because of his father’s career. Being a famous Hollywood producer of military action films and also being a former military career man has made his father hard. He resents his only son being gay. Gavin’s younger years were blemished with hate and despair. Once he was free from his father’s rule and started to build his own life his sexuality was once again forced to be hidden. This time it was his career and his bandmates careers on the line. But somebody knows his secret. He has a stalker that is becoming more and more dangerous.

Gavin is at the end of his rope. He’s scared, stressed, and falling apart. The only thing that gives him hope is the former FBI profiler his manager has brought in to find the stalker threatening his life. The biggest surprise is his attraction to his protector. Mitch Hale is a straight man and clearly has no interest in Gavin romantically. But the vibes are there and the confusion is even greater.

Mitch Hale has to find Gavin’s stalker before it’s too late. This case has blurred lines and nothing is predictable. He can’t get a handle on who the stalker could be or what his motivations are. He can’t get his client to cooperate with him long enough to keep him safe. He can’t understand his attraction to his client. He wants Gavin Walker to stay alive for more than professional reasons. He wants to explore his attraction to Gavin Walker.

As the danger escalates so does Gavin and Mitch’s relationship. These two are going to go up in flames.

I could not put Resist down. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. The chilling suspense was riveting. It kept me guessing up to the very end when the stalker was finally revealed. The relationship between these two men was beautiful. I loved that they gave their all to one another when they finally surrendered to their feelings.

I highly recommend Resist by Heather C. Leigh. The Sphere of Irony series is exceptional.

For the writing, the characters, the romance, and the plot, this book gets three stars. The writing is serviceable, but the characters spend the whole book throwing temper tantrums and not communicating, then whining when the other doesn't magically understand. One of our protags goes back and forth between being so terrified of his stalker he's a shaking mess, to randomly pissed off that he has to stay protected and lashing out, doing risky things, etc. It makes for a *ton* of melodrama. Shouting, getting pissed off and trying to goad people into punching him, slamming doors, refusing to speak to the other. It's ridiculous.

Their relationship and chemistry are... meh. During the flirtationship, their relationship is fun, but it goes from zero to sixty really fast, with the two declaring "I love you"s after knowing each other... a month? Ish?

So, for all of the standard book things, this gets 3 stars. A solid "meh." Entertaining way to spend some time, I suppose, but that's it.

However.

For the way it handled LGBT characters, it gets 2 stars (maybe even 1 star, tbh). It opens with gay suicide, which made me go on a little rant on twitter (https://twitter.com/thewritingj/statu...). But I kept reading because one of the guys' names is Gavin, and that's a name that means a lot to me.

Here is the full plot/Mystery of the book, aka "look how much gay men hate themselves."

The amount of queer slurs in this book, and how both the villains and protagonists are gay men in various stages of the closet whose pivotal moments in their life revolve around their sexuality and how much they hate themselves for it.... EUGH. Like I said on Twitter - Dear cishet m/m auths, gay people have a LOT MORE GOING ON in their lives than how much we hate ourselves????

I'm just really sick of seeing this shit in m/m romance novels, or any queer books for that matter, written by allocishet authors. Stop it. Just. Stop it.

I read Heather's Ricochet series and love it and when I saw the synopsis for Resist, I knew I had to read it. Not only does it involve crime solving but it's M/M which is one of my favorite genres to read. I would like to note that this is the third book in the series but the first one I have read so it could be read as a standalone.

Gavin has been receiving threatening letters and most recently gifts from a stalker. He is a rock star so letters are one thing but when gifts start showing up in hotel rooms, it's another. This has made Gavin very nervous for himself and the band. This makes him stay inside and when he is out, he is in panic mode. This is not good for a man that doesn't like to be hidden...he wants to be himself. The stalker isn't getting exactly what he wants, for Gavin not to announce that he is a gay man. Only a few people know this about him and the random hook-ups so who could want him to stay in the closet?

Mitch is an ex-FBI agent. He is one of the best profilers and now has his own security business. When his cousin calls needing help for a friend that is getting threats, he doesn't really want the job because dealing with celebrity types is not something he is interest in but he takes the job because it's for his cousin and for some reason, he is excited about it.

When Gavin and Mitch meet for the first time, it doesn't really go as planned. Gavin is on edge and Mitch can not get a read on him and the more he is around him, he finds that he is a jerk. But what Mitch doesn't know is that Gavin finds his attractive and it makes him nervous since Mitch is straight. But is he? Well...not completely.

Mitch knows deep down that he is gay but has in denial for years. And now, that he is around Gavin, it's harder and harder to stay in the closet. He wants him. Bad. To kill two birds with one stone, he comes up with a plan to bring the stalker out. Will this also force Mitch to come out as well?

Once Mitch and Gavin get on the same page...the relationship heats up and is damn sexy. It's more than just the sex, they get each other. But, they also have a job to get done, find the stalker so Gavin can move on with his life. Who can be after him?

I love this story! Gavin and Mitch's work relationship is all over the place. Mitch thinks Gavin is a spoiled jerk with zero common sense and Gavin thinks Mitch is just an ass that needs to stop yelling at him and acting like he can't take care of himself. But with that, the attraction is undeniable and their attitudes are just bigger turn-ons! So hot...

Overall...it's suspenseful, sexy, funny and I fucking loved it!

P.S The nickname Gavin gives Mitch is the best.

Quotes:

The house says a lot about the man who owns it. He wants to be exposed. Likely is tired of hiding who he is. Interesting.

Fuming mad, I shove at his shoulders with my hands, sending him crashing into the wall behind him. “You work for me!”
Oh god, my dark fantasy is coming true. What’s the chance he’ll throw me against the wall and kiss me right now?

“Hang on, Utah. We’re only just getting started.”

Resist is book #3 in The Sphere of Irony Series by Heather C Leigh, it can be read as a standalone but trust me when I say you will want to read all the books in this amazing series.

This is Gavin Walker's story he is the Bass player for the band, and has been getting notes and messages from a stalker for some time now.
Gavin is openly gay but in the music world he's been advised to keep that part of his life secret. Growing up with an ex military father Gavin suffered with not being man enough and suffered abuse, I'm not getting into it but as we see what he has gone through and survived you will fall more in love with him

Recently the threats have become quite dangerous and fear is building for his security so the label hires a former FBI agent that specialized in profiling serial killers.

Mitch Hale had been summoned to work to protect Gavin but he was so reluctant because as he says he's not a babysitter for spoiled rock stars.
The meeting didn't go well when Gavin was in the room meeting Mitch his senses were on overload he was so turned on by Mitch whom he thinks is totally straight he can' t concentrate so he just up and left leaving Mitch frustrated and wondering how will this work.

As things move on Gavin is getting so frustrated having to be followed everywhere either with Mitch or hired body guards he is about to snap, also: the fact that Gavin is so totally turned on by Mitch and fantasizing them both together.

Mitch is at his wits end with no leads to this case and more and more crazy happening becoming violent and sick at times he's finding it difficult to ignore the fact that he is having sexual feeling towards Gavin this in his book is a great big No No, so as we watch the constant struggle between these two the tension and sexual chemistry is so hot it has me glued to my seat and couldn't put this book down.

"Holy s***. Johnny Utah is a bottom I think I just died and went to heaven."

I loved how we got to witness different aspects in this story at times it was like an episode of criminal minds then we also get the banter between Mitch and Gavin which at times had me laughing hysterically with Gavin's nick name for Mitch"Johnny Utah" from the movie Point Break. When they both couldn't hide their attraction for each other look out because the scenes were Hot and so very Intense. Following their journey together towards trust and their HEA was so beautiful but before they got there they were tested and twists and turns were everywhere with some angst but in the long run this was so well written the flow was perfect and I can't wait to read more from this series.

I highly recommend this book and the first two from this series.

WOW!! This was my first read from Heather C. Leigh and I loved it!

From the beginning I was absolutely captivated and a little emotional.
I was intrigued by Gavin's past, and I wanted to know more!

"I've always loved the ocean. It's peaceful on the outside, but as they've always said, looks can be deceiving. Under those blue-green waves lie torment and fury and the ability to cut a grown man down. Sort of like me, beautiful on the outside- or so people tell me- but inside, I'm a twisted wreck of anguish and self-hatred."

This is the story of Gavin, the hot, gay, but not out to the music industry, bass player of Sphere of Irony.
He has been plagued by a stalker and it's gotten way out of hand.
Cue the hot as hell ex-FBI agent Mitch to head up security and bring the stalker down.
These two have an instant connection. While Gavin is instantly attracted and trying desperately not to be, Mitch doesn't understand the odd feeling he has toward this moody rock star who he strangely happens to find absolutely gorgeous!

This story is so damn sexy and delicious!! The chemistry between these two is sizzling hot!

"He uses my hair to direct my lips back to his, claiming me in the messiest, hottest, dirtiest mouth fuck of my life."

It's also hilarious and had me laughing out loud.
I rather enjoyed the references to Point Break! Gavin being a surfer and Mitch being undercover! One of my fave movies, by the way!

"Holy shit. Johnny Utah is a bottom I think I just died and went to heaven."

It was playful and fun, but also mysterious with a touch of melancholy.
Superb writing that kept me intrigued and entertained. I have found a new author to add to my love list!

Although this is book 3 in the Sphere ff Irony series, it can be read as a standalone. I did not get the feeling as if I missed anything. BUT, I will say that I now want to read more from this author and will definitely go back to read books 1 and 2.
AND... book 4?? Hawke??

Mystery, danger and two alpha types taking turns at being in charge. These two are actually adorable together. I loved this story!
Gavin Walker, bass guitarist for Sphere of Irony, has been receiving threatening notes and gifts from a stalker. With his life at risk, the record company decides to bring in an expert in criminal profiling to ascertain the identity of Gavin's hunter. When Gavin is introduced to Mitch Hale; tall, dark and gorgeous is the only thing on his mind. If he has to spend all his time with this tempting man without being able to 'have fun', he’s going to go nuts. Again.
Mitch is all business. He insists that he needs to shadow Gavin's every move in order to protect him and get an understanding of the danger. Gavin doesn't have any respect for his safety. He lives in a house full of glass windows overlooking a public beach, invites random men back to his home and doesn't consider that his assistant could be followed back to his location. The man is a security nightmare. Being in Gavin's presence brings out urges that Mitch would rather leave buried with the pain of his past. There's no stopping the magnetic pull, though. Mitch's life is about to be turned upside down.
I loved this couple. They're both forceful personalities and switch the lead several times back and forth depending on who needs care. They were able to be strong enough for each other.
The opening scene of the book is full of deep emotional pain for Gavin and then we’re thrust forward in time. I really loved that we get to see Gavin being true to himself and drawing happiness from his life even though he's under threat. He's a bit of a diva at times, but at least he admits when he's wrong.
Mitch is in denial. When we become aware of his past, we understand why. I loved his bravery and his willingness to do whatever it took to look after Gavin without consideration of the impact on his own life.
Honestly, these two are so sweet together, but make no mistake the heat between them is off the scale. I have to read more of this series!!
5 Flares.

First, even though this is the third book in the series, I haven't read the first two and I will say that you don't need to have read them to enjoy this book. And enjoy this book I truly did. It had fascinating characters with a lot of depth, a storyline that included plenty of drama and suspense, and of course a story of two people falling in love under complicated and trying circumstances. From the opening scene, I was hooked and just couldn't put this down.

I just loved both main characters, Mitch and Gavin. They both have their own experiences being in the closet, though for different reasons. Gavin's high profile life in the spotlight just adds even more fuel to the fire, especially with him being the one on which a stalker's attention is focused. Speaking of fire--the chemistry between the two of them is simply combustive, and emotions run extremely high throughout the story.

Emotion really is the name of the game here. With Gavin not publicly out for professional reasons, and Mitch with his own personal confusion over his sexuality-or so it seems at first, then throwing in the fact that the attraction between them is virtually unstoppable...the emotional turbulence is at a constant high, and this kept me riveted to the pages from the moment I started reading.

The attraction and chemistry between Mitch and Gavin results in some scorching sexual scenes, ones that you'll want to have a bucket of ice and maybe even your own personal igloo on hand for. Those scenes are fueled with their blatant desire for each other, coupled with...yes, you guessed it...pure, raw emotion that combine to add even more depth to the story without feeling gratuitous or extreme.

You may think you know who the bad guys are, but honestly this story kept me guessing for quite a while. This is the direct result of some excellent writing, which now has me adding the rest of this author's books to my TBR list.

A fantastic story and a 5-star read for me, I'd recommend Resist to fans of M/M romance/romantic suspense, and this one is going on my top recommendations list for the genre. Strictly for ages 18+ due to adult language and situations as well as the adult M/M sexually intimate scenes.

A stalker, a hot rocker and a former FBI agent walk into a….uhhhh, book? This isn’t a joke – but it IS one hell of a hot love story. Heather treats us to a fast paced suspense plotline punctuated by building emotions and hard cocks. RESIST contains crazy stalkers, adorable hand holding, creeping blushes and enough love to burst your heart.

I’m flailing around a little bit with how much I love Gavin. He may be a hot rocker now, but his past is what has created him. His father treated him like utter shit, he tried to kill himself when he was seventeen, and those memories won’t fade – even though he’s a stronger man today. He masks his vulnerability with assholery and I assure you – he is quite the asshole in large chunks of this book. But it fits him. It fits the plot. It fits his character. And jesus, I can’t stop myself from loving that asshole.

While both characters develop in this book, Mitch definitely comes the longest way. He left the FBI for personal reasons and he’s not entirely interested in re-inserting himself in the stalker investigation. But one look at Gavin and he can’t say no. But he’s just going to push those feelings in a box. Mitch had to grow on me due to his reluctance about admitting the fact that he’s gay (although he had zero problems *cough* growing *cough* around Gavin). Thankfully, he comes around. *winks*

Gavin makes idiotic decisions, Mitch reacts with his hard ass rigidity, sexual tension abounds and you have a book that is primed to explode. RESIST is a testosterone fueled, muscle filled, panty melting story that left me completely satisfied. LOVED. 4.5 stars!

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian I Dig Good Books.

Someone is out to get Gavin. Mitch is hired to find out who and to keep Gavin safe. From the very first meeting sparks fly, just not the ones either Gavin or Mitch expected. When the stalker turns his attention to Mitch, both men realise just how much they mean to each other.

This is book three, and I have not read the other books in the series. I didn't feel I was missing out on anything, but I still want to go back and read them too. Just because!

I loved this book! Gavin's reaction to Mitch was expected, he is, after all a gay man but Mitch did not expect the same reaction. But then again, Mitch had been hiding himself for sending long, he was bound to boil over at some point. And boil over they did! I mean, telling someone you hate them, and then kissing their face off?? Fabulous!

I loved the whole hot and cold thing between them, it kept me on my toes, not knowing which way they were gonna blow in which chapter. I didn't see the stalker story sorting itself out as it did, did not see that, at all.

It's very well written, from both men's POV. In the first person. In the present tense. And I still loved it! Each change is clearly headed, and not always occurring as the chapter changes, sometimes in the middle, but still clearly headed.

I loved that both men were able, eventually, to open up about their darkest secrets. Painful times, for each of them.

Extremely well written, with all the right emotions and feelings coming across in all the right places. This is the first book I've read of Heather C Leigh's but it really won't be the last. I can see a huge list of books being added to my wishlist later!.

5full and shiny stars.

First for the Disclaimer--I was given an arc in exchange for an honest review. OMG!!! I honestly loved Resist. I loved this book so much that I couldn't resist reading it a second time. I fell in love with the members of Sphere of Irony while reading the Famous series. All of the band members are survivors in some way. Gavin is no exception. My heart weeped for Gavin from the beginning. The prologue gutted me, tears falling freely. Gavin didn't want for money when he was young, he wanted acceptance. Gavin is gay with an ex-military father. Daddy dearest tried beating the "gayness" out of him. The record label now wants Gavin to keep quiet about his sexual orientation. A stalker wants Gavin to deny his sexual orientation. Soon, the stalker steps up his attacks trying to force Gavin further into the closet. The label hires profiler Mitch Hale to help find the stalker. Yes, this part is predictable--Mitch is gay but in denial. What isn't predictable is how Mitch deals with it. Mitch is Ex-FBI. He grew up and worked in a world of Don't ask, Don't tell. He didn't ask about his own desires. He didn't talk about is desires. He resisted them, until Gavin. Mitch's struggles a lot.Mitch's denial causes problems on the job and with Gavin. Resist is the story of one man resisting love and another wanting him to accept what is in front of him. Resist is a story of mystery. I had now idea what would happen with the stalker. I had no idea if Gavin and Mitch would finally get together. I couldn't resist hoping for a happily ever after. I couldn't resist caring deeply for Mitch and Gavin. They just seemed so real. So real that I want Gavin's mom to adopt me. She is such a hoot.

When I saw an opportunity to read Resist I jumped at the chance. I enjoyed Ricochet by the author and wanted to read more by her.

This is the third book in the Sphere of Irony series about the members of the aforementioned band. Books 1 and 2 were about Adam and Dex who grew up together in a poor an crime ridden area of London. Book 3 and book 4, yet to be published, are about Gavin and Hawke the two remaining members of the band.

Resist can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend the previous books, not just because they're great, but because there are hints at the Gavin we get to know better in this book. In book 1 Gavin was portrayed as the cool, calm surfer dude, then in book 2 it became clear that some of that was a front and he wasn't as happy as he seemed.

In book 3 he's nervous, on edge, snappy and difficult to work with but its understandable considering he has a stalker whose behaviour is escalating. In comes Mitch, ex-FBI turned security consultant and they wind each other up from their first meeting. Gavin is instantly attracted to him and is snappy because of that and in turn Mitch is annoyed by the childish tantrums Gavin has.

The plot follows the increasing threat of the stalker and the sexual tension between Gavin and Mitch.

It's not often a writer composes a series containing both MF and MM storylines; most seem to stick to one or other. Heather writes both relationships equally well, creating realistic characters you can picture easily as you read.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this series so far. I've become embroiled in the world of Sphere of Destiny and am now a total groupie. I look forward to Hawke's story being published and I'm also off to try other books by Heather C. Leigh.

Enjoy!
