Butterfly 6: Phase 1

Rate this book
Phase 1: Caterpillar

Butterflies are not born, they are made.
Morgan Atkins has survived heartbreak before, but nothing could prepare her for the season of her life where love is no longer the greatest thing she stands to lose. When Morgan is confronted with a devastating diagnosis, matters of the heart are forced to take a back seat to motherhood. Her children have always been her greatest blessing, but now her motherhood will become her greatest test.
As tragedy closes in from every direction, Morgan finds herself fighting battles no woman should have to face alone. Every answer uncovers another impossible choice. Every victory requires another sacrifice.
And this storm didn’t wait until she was ready, it slammed into her reality like a hurricane.
Before a butterfly can spread its wings, it must first endure the long, painful process of becoming. It must crawl through darkness, survive the pressure of transformation, and trust that the suffering has purpose.
Morgan has no choice but to do the same.
Welcome to The Butterfly 6 Experience, a conclusion told in three unforgettable, heart pounding, tear-jerking, immersive phases.
Phase Caterpillar is where the metamorphosis begins.

okay…….

Ok so, let me start by saying I AM and WILL ALWAYS be a fan of Ashley’s. Her penmanship is unmatched . Her ability to bring the emotions off the page and smack you in the chest is an ability to be applauded.

That being said I can say this once again felt like an additional Ethic book (Ethic 8) . Now I love him DOWN dyhm but I feel like I’ve lived this experience with him already . I watched him fight for this love and prove himself over and over again . Not just for Alani but for his entire family. I think he deserves to be sitting on a porch with a glass of brown and his wife at his side . I feel like Ashley’s love for him won’t let him rest lol. This book feels like no progression just additional wounds added. I understand the phases and trusting the process and will stay on this ride with my girl BUT please we won’t ever get to a resolution of one thing if we keep adding hurdles. I feel like at this point just name it Ethic 8 and tell us we’ll get to Morgan’s resolution later.

Yes I feel like the roll out was misleading . The covers shown don’t say Phase 1 . It was just disappointing to have waiting patiently to be told to keep waiting longer as I add more stuff for me to have to resolve …

I love Ethicland and will stay here. Hopefully phase 2 brings a little more clarity to the heartaches we’re already holding on to from Butterfly 1.

Over IT

Money grab filler book AGAIN! First, I’m very irritated by the rollout of this book as it was advertised as the LAST book in the series only for it to not be the end. PHASES?! Are you serious Ashley?? 2 more books of this nonsense! You could’ve started this 6 books ago in this series! Instead you lied to your readers about this being the end knowing it wasn’t!!! Girl you funny. Now lets get to the book itself, their was a few nice moments but nothing in this book showed anything new, Messiah still hiding secrets, Alani amnesia (unnecessary storyline!), but glad we got an update Henny. Isa and Aria scenes are still pointless because they don’t move the plot! Meek was barely in the book and Ethic and Alani overshadowed the pages again!!! And seriously?? Messiah and his therapist?! Forget his character development at this point!! I’m sick of this repetitiveness when I was hoping for the end! A bunch of the same arguments, same thoughts, I’m TIRED!!!! It’s like she going in 99 different directions.
She’s a good writer but she cannot flesh out an storyline. I will not be preordering the next 2 books!! This is such a money grab! 3 years to write this (and it’s shorter than B5) and then do FALSE advertisement! You had people pay 50
Dollars for this?!! Ashley you have severely lost the plot.

If “take me through there” was a person, it would definitely be Ashley. I’m convinced traumatizing us is simply now a part of her regular day to day live. I really enjoyed B6, it was heartbreaking, emotional, and let me wanting more. Not much I can say, if you’ve been following this series you already know what to expect. Butterfly 6 Phase 2 me please. 🦋

Repeating

This book was full of fluff and the same story we’ve been reading since Ethic. The synopsis of the book mentions Morgan but the book is about everything but her. It really should have been Ethic 6 squared cause this was their story. I will say I enjoyed the last 3 chapters. THE LAST 3 cause that’s when it actually had a new storyline and something new.

Ashley, I loved all of your books but with B6 I am very disappointed. Yes, we want to keep these characters alive but can we please move forward just a little? It’s been 3 years so I truly expected more. I’ve been reading your books since 2010 when they sold them in Walmart before all this social media business. I started with Trophy Wife and went back to the beginning and have been a fan since. Your fans will ride or die for you but sista girl I think we’re losing the plot here.

✨Book Review✨

3.5 ⭐️

Let me preface this review by saying that my rating is in no way, shape, or form a reflection of Ashley Antoinette’s ability to write or tell a story. We KNOW Ashley has that on lock.

I’ve been reading this series for 16 YEARS, so clearly I’m invested. 😂

But baby…

Sixteen years is also a long time to still be talking about some of the same shit. 😭

Butterfly 6 picks up exactly where Book 5 left off, with Yolly sick in the hospital, and honestly? I don’t even feel like I need to give y’all a full rundown of everything that happened in this book because…

Not much happened.

And that was my biggest issue.

My physical copy is around 410 pages, and in those 410 pages, it felt like the actual timeline of the story progressed maybe a day and a half? Two days?

There were a LOT of words on these pages, but not enough of those words moved the overall story forward for me.

Were there conversations and situations that were necessary? Absolutely.

Did we get SOME progression? Yes.

But did I personally feel like we got 410 pages worth of progression?

No.

And I think that’s where a lot of my frustration with this installment comes from.

Now, I know some people have been frustrated that we continue to get four chapters of Ethic and Alani, but honestly, that’s not my issue. We’ve been getting those chapters since Butterfly started, so I expected them. And truthfully, I don’t mind continuing to see Ethic and Alani.

My issue is…

Why are we gearing up to revisit Kenzie AGAIN?! 😭

We already suffered! We healed! We rebuilt!

I thought WE as a community had overcome! 😂

At this stage of their lives, Ethic and Alani should be somewhere on a beach with their phones on Do Not Disturb. Ethic should be rubbing sunscreen on his wife’s back while she irritates him about something completely inconsequential. 😂

Give me some rich-married-couple problems!

Give me an anniversary trip!

Give me them figuring out this new stage of parenting as their children get older!

Give me literally ANYTHING that allows their relationship to exist in the present instead of repeatedly dragging us back into old trauma.

That’s the distinction for me.

I’m not asking for nothing to happen. I’m asking for something NEW to happen.

I barely survived the Kenzie situation the first time. I cannot believe we’re about to spend another phase unpacking it again. 😭 I’m ready to see what life looks like for Ethic and Alani NOW without reliving the PAST.

Then we have Bella.

There were moments where the way Bella responded to certain situations didn’t necessarily feel authentic to me. I understood why Ashley needed her to say certain things because those moments were clearly being used to segue into larger conversations—like her conversation with Aria about Alani and Morgan and the way they show up in their love lives.

I understood the purpose.

It was Bella being the vehicle to get us there that didn’t always work for me.

But I also have to keep reminding myself:

Bella is FIFTEEN. 😂

She’s a teenage girl trying to process some very grown, very complicated family dynamics, so I do give her some grace there.

Now let’s talk about Messiah real quick because SIR…

Messiah frustrates me because why does this man have to feel something SO DEEPLY for every pretty woman who enters his line of vision?!

😂😂😂

Every time Messiah gets in somebody’s face, here come the feelings!

I actually DO want him and Katie together eventually because I know one thing for damn sure:

I do not want him and Morgan together.

However…

Messiah needs to focus on his daughter, healing, getting his own life together, and being TRUTHFUL with Morgan before he worries about being in another woman’s face.

Sir, figure YOU out first.

And KD?

Girl…

Watch yourself before you mess around and lose that license. 😭

I don’t need either one of y’all making life-altering decisions because Messiah looked at you too long.

Now, of course, I would’ve loved more Ahmeek.

I really loved the scene between him and Ethic, even though Ethic continues to irritate me with his dislike for Meek.

I understand loyalty. I understand loving the people you’ve known for years and having history with them.

But at some point, shouldn’t what is best for your daughter outweigh what you’re accustomed to and where your loyalties have traditionally been?

Especially when Messiah isn’t even being loyal to Morgan!

So the math ain’t mathing for me, Ethic. 😒

One of my favorite—and probably most important—moments in the book was the scene at Easy’s football practice.

As heartbreaking as it was to see him having those feelings, I was happy that what he’s been experiencing was finally put on Ethic’s radar.

Easy has been getting a little lost in the sauce, and with everything constantly happening in this family, it would be very easy for the quieter child to fall through the cracks.

So as sad as that scene was, I was happy that he was finally being heard.

Hopefully, this means Ethic can start paying closer attention to what Easy needs emotionally instead of assuming he’s okay because he isn’t the child making the most noise.

And now…

As a SELF-PROCLAIMED ALANI HATER…

😂😂😂

I have to give credit where it’s due.

That lady really didn’t work my nerves too badly in this book.

Matter of fact, I actually understood her frustration.

She’s been put in an incredibly difficult position. Does she accept the reality she’s currently living in and try to move forward? Or does she keep digging into her past and risk discovering things that could completely change how she sees herself and the people around her?

That’s a hard battle to have to face.

So Alani…

You and I were cool this round. 😂

But GIRL.

Use that womanly intuition God gave you and DO NOT TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THAT NURSE BITCH MARA.

Because I don’t trust her as far as I can throw her. ✋🏾

Now before I wrap this up, I HAVE to give some love to Isa and Aria because I love those two so much. 😭

They were definitely some of the comic relief I needed in this book, and I’m not even going to lie…

I’m still low-key rooting for them. 😂

At the same time, I’m really proud of Aria for doing what she needs to do for herself. As much as I might want certain things for them, I love seeing her prioritize herself and make the decisions she needs to make for her own growth.

But that doesn’t mean I can’t be over here quietly like…

👀 Sooooo… y’all sure we’re done-done?

😂

And I LOVE seeing Isa in uncle mode. Those moments with him and Ssari are so good.

Meanwhile, Aria is over there spending time with her little “boyfriend” Ssari. 😂

Between those two and their foolishness, they gave me some much-needed lighter moments because whew… everybody else has PROBLEMS.

Overall, Butterfly 6 wasn’t my favorite installment of the series.

There were individual moments I really enjoyed. I loved the emotional weight of Easy’s scene. I appreciated Alani’s internal conflict. I enjoyed getting Ahmeek and Ethic together. Isa and Aria gave me some much-needed laughs. And there are clearly pieces being put into place for what’s coming next.

And Ashley is still ASHLEY.

That woman knows how to write a book and tell a story.

If I were rating Butterfly 6 solely on Ashley Antoinette’s writing and storytelling ability?

Five stars. Easy.

But that’s not the only thing I’m rating.

I’m also rating my experience with this particular installment, and for me, the pacing was too slow, there wasn’t enough progression for 400+ pages, and I’m struggling with the idea of revisiting storylines that I feel like we’ve already lived through.

And that’s really the heart of my issue:

I don’t need to leave these characters behind. I just need them to move forward.

I LOVE this world. Clearly. Sixteen years later and I’m still here. 😂 I don’t need Ethic and Alani written out. I don’t need everybody’s story wrapped up in a neat little bow.

I just want to see these characters dealing with new seasons of their lives instead of constantly reopening old wounds.

Now, does ANY of this mean I’m not continuing the series?

Absolutely the hell not. 😂

Who are we kidding?!

Ashley said Phase 2 was her favorite to write?

BET.

Because I’ll be right there when it drops.

Let’s go. 😂✊🏾

I’ll keep this short and sweet
-I am an Ashely Antoinette fan
-I wish this wasn’t 3 phases
-I feel like I’m being strung along a bit.
-I wish things would wrap up quicker.
-I found myself wanting to skip chapters because I feel like I’ve read this before.
-I’m so invested in the characters but also it’s becoming frustrating since I feel like storyline can conclude at this point.

Boring Read

I’ve read all the books in this series and I’m a huge fan, but this one just didn’t do it for me. I had to force myself to read it. It felt like more of the same, and for the first time since discovering Ashley Antoinette, I found myself skipping pages. I honestly just wanted to get to the end.

It was a boring read. I would have preferred three more years developing a stronger story. So much was happening, yet nothing really was.I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the series. I think I’ve outgrown it. The characters are stuck in the same place and it's redundant at this point.

It’s my least favorite book out of the series. Wish it was more of Messiah’s story in this was. A bit disappointed.

sigh…

This is beautifully written but this series really needs to end. Especially since we were told that this would be the conclusion. This was nothing but a filler book with really no new information or progression of the overall story.

This book had so much potential but fell flat.

1. This was a filler book. The story didnt move until the last couple of chapters . Ahmeek was barely mentioned. Morgan was supposed to be in caterpillar phase, but the book focused on Ethic.

2. The usage of Royalty metaphors. Ashley spend a big bulk of the book describing Ethic as the king needing to protect his castle. After the umpteenth time, I felt she was a college kid trying to get a word count before 11:59 pm when an assignment was due. She used the same metaphor over and over. We get it, Ethic is a king.

3. Messiah’s character development, or lack thereof
. He put Yolly in danger. She was under medical care in the hospital and she wanted fries so he selfishly took her out of the hospital because HE needed air, like sir, your daughter needs monitoring. He then used tgat moment to try to secure some new Kitty Kat, saying empty promises to his therapist? Like you just broke Morgan and Bleu’s heart, now you cannot live without Khadeen, you never felt this way? He said that to both Bleu and Morgan before. He went to heal but the professional so-called alpha female Psychologist didn’t keep it professional? He is telling this woman he is developing a codependency. She falls for him cause she is lust driven, she see he is not healed. She’s a villain in this story. Morgan peeped her intention when she met her at the funeral opening. Messiah is just leaving broken hearts in her wake.

4. As I write this, I still have not received any info about my preorder. I ordered two days after she started selling preorders. Then knowing she is having issues shipping all her orders, she was advertising she had books left. I had to buy a copy on Kindle to avoid spoilers. This was not a good reading experience just because I had to shell out 13 more dollars.

5. Why didn’t she just make a big book? Why torture us and split this book up in Phases? The book was too short as is..

Overall, good storyline, just executed poorly and not informing the public it was gonna be 3 “phases” doesn’t sit right with me. Two stars.

Overall, she has

1 Star — $60 for This One Book, and the Story Still Isn’t Finished

I am extremely disappointed with Butterfly 6. I paid $60 for this book alone, and after reading it, I honestly feel like I could have just read the last four chapters and gotten everything I needed to know.

The majority of the book felt like the same things we’ve already been going through throughout this series. There was so much repetition and not nearly enough progression to justify the length—or the price.

What really upset me was getting to the end of a book that cost me $60 only to find out that there are still two more books after this one. By Book 6, I expected the story to be moving toward a real conclusion, not to feel like it was being stretched out even further.

I have supported this series and invested both my time and money into these characters, but this book left me feeling frustrated rather than satisfied. For $60, I expected a complete, substantial reading experience—not a book where the last four chapters basically told me everything I needed to know before sending me on to two more books.

Very disappointing. One star.

I'm really happy Ashley decided to break this ending up because I didn't even want it to end anyway. It wasn't rushed every character is developing I like to hear their story in its entirety and not hurriedly along. Those of us who are truly invested don't mind the series being long. I have seen series with 20 plus book and I heard no one complaining because truth be told if you don't like it you don't have to read it. I did take years long breaks in between some of these and I won't be mad if Ashley decides to keep dropping us this family's story every couple of years. This series should not be binged you should be taking your time with this. All I have to say is I'm not mad at it. Ethic, Alani, and Mo still makes my build pressure rise. Great job Ashley, continue to do what you love with no regrets. Your work most definitely shows that you love what you do.

don’t know y’all… I think I’m just tired at this point lol. I’ve been with these people for SO many books and I still care about Morgan and everybody, but this one just didn’t hit me like the other Butterfly books. Morgan has a lot going on with her diagnosis and being a mom so I felt for her, but some parts I was just ready for the story to MOVE. There were moments I really liked and of course Ashley knows how to make you keep reading, but I think I expected more after waiting to see what was next for everybody. It was okay, I just wasn’t as obsessed with it as I wanted to be.

Expected coming from the author

Loll something told me not preorder just because of hearing how the author and her husband don’t send out books in a reasonable time. The author plays in our faces years at a time , why tell everyone it’s going to be the end and fill almost a chapter worth of how she feels so strongly about writing this book but it doesn’t give in the chapters. Literally released “ before the street lights come on “ knowing majority of your readers are anticipating B6. My thing is , why make us wait years to put out subpar work B6 is nothing but updates with about 3 chapters covering Morgan and messiah, it’s giving the author just started writing this book a couple months ago and rushed to put it out.

Zeus tv but in a book format

Ashley’s writing is great however from butterfly 5 it’s gone downhill. It’s super unrealistic, predictable and it’s as if we’re reading a Zeus script. The Mara character is predictable and unnecessary especially since it’s obvious Alani & ethic ain’t breaking up. The fact this is 3 part finale and sold in visually with gaps is nonsense this first part feels like a “here! Damn” book if anything part 1&2 should’ve been released together and the 3rd part a lil after. Part 1 was lacklustre but would have had potential if released with part 2.

I’m still tryna figure out if B6 is her caterpillar phase what phase was she in when she survived her suicidal attempt & started therapy with Ny and so on. The entire time I’ve been reading B1-5 I’ve been waiting for the caterpillar to bloom. Author definitely played on us, it’s diabolical at this point.Nothing new took place beside knowing the hidden agenda of Mara. The writing as always was good but sadly this book was definitely a filler book.

Very disappointed. This should have been another Ethic book because that's who dominated the book. I'm so sick of hearing Alani complain about him hiding something from her. And Messiah is in love with a different woman in every book! This book annoyed me so bad!!

Regretfully I have to rate this 3.
75 stars. I am #Huge Ashley Antoinette fan. I have and will continue to read the Ethic and followup series.

I am disappointed with a (few things.)) First, I was expecting this to be the conclusion in the series (as told). Second, there were way too many cliffhangers. Dont get me wrong, I love a little suspense sprinkled into a good nook every now and then just like the next girlie, but this time things went overboard. I'm here for the classic Ethic family drama, but I reached my breaking point.

Here's to hoping the last to Phases are actual conclusions in this so we can say farewell to Ethic and welcome a new cast of friends.

Although I do enjoy this series, this book was disappointing. The Butterfly series is supposed to focus on Morgan, but somehow Ethic and Alani are the main characters. Adding an unnecessary (and complex) storyline for Ethic/Alani, when they had their own series, does a disservice to the ACTUAL main characters of this series. Because of this issue, the book feels unnecessary, as nothing is resolved, and there is no character growth. Hopefully, the next two phases will be significantly better.

I love Ashley Antoinette

I live Ashley Antoinette books but I really hate how she drag out them ending of each book. Ethic was the only book to go through without her stretching out the ending. I know she has to pay her bills but you can do that Ans still keep you readers.

MID-MID-MID, SKIP-SKIP. . . This entire book.
I am never super critical of the authors. However, the 3 phases isn’t what disappointed me, it is the redundancy and the summary of B5.
Hey! What's new in their world? Nothing. Cool, cool, cool.
I wanted to like this book so bad, but I couldn't finish it.

I want to preface this by saying I’m a fan of Ashley Antoinette and I will not shame the author. I have loved Ethicland since it took me hostage with Moth to a Flame. With Butterfly 6 it was a pleasure to see what some of my favorite characters have been up to.

In my personal opinion, the book doesn’t truly get started until you’re about 70% into it. The beginning of the book feels like an epiphany, I had the thought of “I’ve been here before with these people” and I skipped through a lot simply because…I had been there before with them people.

I love Ethic and Alain, but this book felt like they were never going to have their happy ending. It felt a lot like Mo and Messiah were finally progressing in their character arcs while Alain and Ethic were regressing. I feel the new storyline with Ethic and Alani is just unnecessary after EVERYTHING they’ve been through.

It was a pleasure to see Eazy written in and showing how he’s managing his black boy joy and pain in a realistic way. A book where MO FINALLY DIDNT CRY THE ENTIRE TIME…even though the circumstances would’ve made sense for her to.

I absolutely love Bleu but this was not the Bleu show and it also wasn’t the Meek show and I’m so thankful that it didn’t turn into that. The Frederick’s are getting too much attention, it feels like Ashley was having a hard time letting a few characters go and truly wrapping up some fading and drawn out storylines.

Overall, I gave the rating of 3 stars because a lot of the beginning felt like Ethic 1-7, Christmas with the Okafors, and Butterfly 1-5. Let these people be happy, especially the older characters that have had their time. They should be supporting characters not main characters in Mo’s story. The fact that the end is being split into 3 parts, I like the creativity of it and where Ashley is going with that but being that this was a book we waited on for 3 years it’s almost offensive that it wasn’t wrapped up. The letter to the fans had more progression than the actual story line.

If you enjoy Ethicland then you’ll enjoy the book to just catch up with our favorite characters. If you’re looking for real progress in the storyline you may find yourself a bit underwhelmed or unsatisfied. There was a lot of laughter, some truly thought provoking moments, and some tears which is why I felt 3 stars was appropriate.

Heart Broken 💔 Tears Flowing

No spoilers. None. Cuz when you’re part of this family, you already know, we love what we love, we ride for our characters. And when something happens, we feel it. And baby, I felt this. I’m not gonna tell y’all who had me suspicious, but let’s just say I felt it. And when Morgan felt it too? Whew. You don’t wanna miss this ride. I want to say so. much. But I refuse, because this is one of those books you need to experience for yourself. My heart needs time to recover before the next book drops, ‘cause right now? I am not okay. And please, please don’t let this be the end. Five stars. Period.

Ashley made us wait 3 years to leave us on a cliffhanger. The chatacters have already been developed. Readers need to know if Yolly has cancer. Will Alani have to hear the truth again. Where is Meek? Ethic does not deserve all this heartache and neither does Bella. Poor Hendrix! This was a 3 year wait of agony and trauma.

Should’ve been 1 book

Although o enjoyed this book I’m upset that it’s leaving us on yet another cliff hanger… We’ve waited so long for this book to come out why make us wait longer to get the finished story. Then messiah was shot like come on? Who has beef with them? What is going on with Meek and Hal? Is this retaliation for Bash? So many questions left unanswered but I guess I’ll wait a few more months for phase 2.
