20 years after the tragic drowning death of their sorority sister, five friends gather to spend a week at the lake house where she died. Claire has spent years hiding from the husband who tried to have her killed and the dangerous people who ultimately ended his life instead, but when Sloane invites her out to the lake for a reunion, she decides to go against her instincts and join the friends for a ‘girl’s trip.’ But when she arrives, it quickly becomes clear that everyone else in the house is hiding something, something about the night that Grace died, something they have never told the others—or anyone else. Though the drowning was ruled accidental, Sloane has always believed that someone killed Grace, and she knows Claire will not stop pulling until she unravels the thread that reveals the truth, once and for all. Besides Claire, everyone in the house is a suspect, and someone is watching, waiting to see who can implicate them. By gethering them all together, Sloane may well have endangered them instead.

Thoughts: This was a quick and easy read. I figured out the killer around a quarter of the way through, unfortunately. It was also a little perplexing to watch all these grown women ignore their own instincts for so long. (I did anticipate there might be a big twist coming, which did not occur, I must admit.) And one of the five women felt a little superfluous; it might have tightened up the narrative to cut one of them, since the chapters rotated point of view and this led to a bit too much repetition, as the women spoke in pairs or each independently observed something without discussing it with anyone else. The mystery is not very deep in this one, but I nevertheless enjoyed the read.

Thanks to the author for providing an advance reader copy; all opinions in this review are my own.

I got this ebook copy from the author and Booksprout and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Lake Victim pulled me in with an old death at the lake that never quite stayed buried. What was supposed to be a reunion starts cracking open secrets that have been sitting there for twenty years.

I liked how the suspicion kept moving around and had me questioning who was telling the truth and who was hiding something. The different points of view worked well and gave the mystery more layers without giving everything away too early.

The middle slowed down some for me, but once everything started coming together, the tension picked up and kept me swiping. And just when I thought I had the whole thing figured out, there was still one more little hook waiting at the end.

I give it a 4 outta 5 catfish!

Claire is still trying to feel safe, so when an old friend invites her to a 4th of July reunion, she doesn’t want to go but decides to anyway. Twenty years ago at the same house, a friend drowned and it was ruled accidental. Now, twenty years later, strange things are happening like a feeling they are being watched, smelling cigarette smoke when none of them smoke and things missing or moved in the bedrooms. The friend group sits around one night drinking wine and one friend lets something out about that night twenty years ago. One friend disappears and then another. Can the friends find them in time or will they all be captured?

This is a good psychological thriller that pulls you in with the twists and turns while you try to figure out what happened twenty years ago to their friend. If you like psychological thrillers, this book is for you!

Claire Beckett has been invited to the 20th reunion 4th of July party at her friend’s lake house. What begins as a celebration quickly turns into something scarier. Twenty years ago, one of their friends, Grace, died at this very spot, and one or more people at the reunion want answers. Everybody is keeping secrets, and as each one comes out, suspicions rise. What really happened to Grace, and what is the true purpose of the weekend gathering? Find out in Parker Vale’s The Lake Victim.

While this is book three of the Claire Beckett series, it’s set four years after book two and acts as a standalone story. I love how every woman is hiding something and how they all try to keep their secrets until they can’t. As always, Parker Vale delivers one final surprise at the end to make the reader wonder what they just read. I’m already looking forward to book four.

After twenty years, five friends get together in the lake house of their childhood to celebrate the 4th of July. Or so they think. Once they get there, they start talking about their sixth friend who died at that same lake house twenty years ago. From there secrets get revealed and they realize that they might not have the whole truth about what happened that night.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I got invested in the story from the moment I picked it up. Although, I have to admit that i was a little disappointed with the ending, I was expecting something more surprising than what happened. Even though the ending was what it was, I am still very grateful for this opportunity.

The Lake Victim is a tense, atmospheric nail‑biter that hooked me from the first chapter. Parker Vale’s writing is sharp and immersive, pulling you straight into a lakeside mystery that has been festering for twenty years. As the truth slowly unravels, the suspense tightens in all the right ways. The characters feel real—flawed, complicated, and shaped by the secrets they’ve carried for decades. Every reveal lands with impact, and the final pieces of the puzzle are both satisfying and unsettling. If you enjoy thrillers built on long‑buried secrets, emotional depth, and steady, page‑turning tension, this one delivers.

A great interactive murder mystery. You can always count on Parker Vale to give you tidbits of information so you yourself can feel like an investigator and come to your own conclusions. The multiple point of views helped build a picture. The mystery was also great. With all the tidbits of the case you're given you guess the killer but not the exact reasons as to why until the end.
Character list :
Claire - FMC
Wren - Stayed with Sloane during July the 4th
Sloane - Host of reunion
Carrie - Shrinks at Grace's name
Meg - Number 1 suspect
Grace - Murder Victim on July the 4th
Ryan - Meg's loving husband

For the holiday, friends are invited to a reunion at a lake house where twenty years ago, another of their group drowned from a fall off the dock.

Apart from the one, each of the others were there that night, and have carried a piece of the story as a secret eating away at their consciousness since. Claire, the extra, was specifically invited by the hostess,  who was hoping that she might be able to draw the pieces of the story from the rest  and put together as a whole.

Watch as secrets are revealed and lives are changed in the process.

Parker Vale never disappoints. This book continues the story of Claire in a way I wasn’t expecting. Based off the last book, I expected a book about Eve. So when I started this and realized it was about Claire and her friends, I knew it’d grab my attention. Claire ends up using her detective-like skills again after thinking she’s finished that part of her life. I loved this book and can’t wait for any future Parker Vale books.

I read this novel through ARC and this is my review. Claire left her husband and headed back to her hometown. She soon is invited to a reconnect reunion but on July 4th with her old friends. Remembering her friend that died years ago. She gets the feeling that Grace's drowning was a murder. Someone thinks Claire who, or did she do it? An interesting storyline with twists that draw you deeper into the story.

3.5/5 stars for me. This kinda had Pretty Little Liars vibes but darker. Twenty years ago there was a gathering of friends and one died ruled drowning. Now five are back and determined to find out of that was true. I liked the premise and the pacing and resolution were good. Not a fan of all the switching POVs it got confusing and led to a bunch of repetitive information. Overall a good thriller.

This is a great psychological thriller. The initial incident was 20 years ago. A group of girls lost one of their own to ‘drowning’. The prologue spells out something different that no one knows. Now 20 years later, Sloane invites the girls up to the cabin on the lake. It’s just for the girls. No partners. It starts out seemingly nice enough but our FMC, Claire, picks up on some bad vibes. From here, the story is full of mystery as things happen and start to spiral.

Another great story in this series. Claire cannot visit anywhere without trouble following her. A friend invites her on a friends July 4th stay at the lake. The twists this book takes keep you reading from start to finish. Another great book in a great series.
This was an ARC read I am reviewing honestly and voluntarily.
