Visus Malum
The long-awaited sequel to VERUM MALUM!
Jackie and Noah are still reeling from the events of one year ago. Noah is struggling with a life without his husband or his eyesight. Jackie is trying to balance her life between helping Noah, her own healing, and a growing relationship with Zora. Unbeknownst to her is despite Noah's blindness, he is plagued by nightly visions of the Verum Malum.
Meanwhile, in the Verum Malum, Marius is desperate to free himself from his eternal hell-loop. He devises a murderous plan to escape and exact his revenge. If he succeeds, no one is safe, not even the Malum itself.

After a successful tour overseas, the band arrives home to find someone has stolen some of their musical equipment. Neither jet lag nor dark of night will stop them from finding what is rightfully theirs. I was so excited for this sequel and it was just as good as the the first book! It was heartbreaking to watch Noah miss Ben and to see how Jackie felt like she needed to care for Noah. And I was so happy that Jackie found love with Zora.
Poor Crazy Ned was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Marius is just the worst. Mysoginistic, racist, homophobic and evil. I never thought I could dislike a fictional character so much
The way Collins wrote the Verum Malum and it's inhabitants was brilliant. A myriad of people living in their own personal Hells. Each one different but no less terrifying.
If occult horror is your thing, you need to read this. You do need to read Verum Malum first. While Visus Malum could possibly be read as a standalone, the author did a great job of giving information on what went on in the first book, to get the full effect read Verum Malum first.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a bonus story at the end featuring the metal band Emaciated Angel. A quirky, teensy bit funny short story that had me chuckling. I really need them to have their own book!
