This is a better-than-average post-apocalyptic zombie series with an engrossing story and characters you'll like and root for. It's not reinventing the wheel, and lacks the distinctive voice that the best zombie series have, but it's definitely better than the average. The writing was consistent and well-done, utilizing a decent vocabulary that reflects the narrator's college education. I also appreciated that the story was actually wrapped up and the characters left in a good place at the end. I like closure!

If you prefer your post-apocalyptic stories military bang-bang with little character development, this will not be for you. However, it does move along well and involves a reasonable amount of action, while still developing characters and relationships, so it should please most fans of this genre.

Since I work long hours, I listened to this book on Audible. I like the sound of the narrators voice, just not her narration style. There was no emotion. No matter how hurried, excited, or scared someone was, her tone was the same. That made it impossible for me to finish listening to this book. I will say though that it seems like a pretty decent book overall. I'm just going to get a regular book copy, and read it that way.

12/17/20 Revisited this series to see if I could get through it this time (I hate to leave a story unfinished). Nope. I still feel the same. I found myself zoning out, and missing parts of the story cause the narrators voice was so dull.

The first two books were better than the third, and the ending of the third book was ridiculous. There were a lot of things that just didn't seem plausible (like endless supplies of gasoline and finding enough formula to feed babies), but that's not something that bothers every reader.

All three books are from Cash's POV, and I would have preferred it if there had been more POVs. After three books I still knew almost nothing about Clutch, and he was a main character! I had a hard time keeping the rest of the supporting characters straight, so few of them seemed to stand out.

There's a good amount of action, and the storyline kept me interested enough to get through all three books.

We follow Cash and Clutch throughout the Midwestern United States—and beyond—during a zombie apocalypse.

Cash (government name: Mia Ryan) is an actuary in Des Moines, Iowa.

Clutch (government name: Joseph Siebert) is a United States Army Ranger and Afghanistan combat veteran. He’s a trucker, a farmer, and a prepper.

The Marburgvirus comes out of South America with fast and deadly results.

The first book is the strongest. Lulls in the second book. Returns to form, mostly, in the third installment.

Could use a firmer HEA / conclusion.

The Dante references are bizarre and discordant, detracting from the narrative.

Overall, an enjoyable read and series.

This is by far the best way to buy this series. Firstly, if you read the first book you'll want to read the rest. Secondly, there are some very interesting, nice bonus extras. I really enjoyed the couple of prequel short stories - they didn't change anything for me in terms of the main books, but they were a nice way to wrap up my reading. The author also includes some insights into the relevance of Dante etc - which I have to say I found hard to connect the dots on while reading the book, but after reading the explanations things are clearer now. Great series.

Best Zombie series

I could not put this series down. The characters were lifelike and became even more developed as the series progressed. I loved how the main character Cash ended up becoming so strong but still retained her compassion. The love affair between her and Clutch was the best part of the series. I wish Me Aukes would revisit the Deadland world. This is the best zombie series i have read and I have read many

A joy to read. Saved me during my commutes! I was completely and utterly transported into a different world, and if you know anything about the London Tube at peak times - it was super helpful!
