Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and publisher for sending me an advanced copy in return for my honest review!

This story was advertised as a standalone, but within the first couple of chapters, you can certainly tell that there was a previous book that you missed out on. I didn't read the first one, but I will be going back to read it now, as I am so curious about the many references made in this story.

It's a very obvious Alice in Wonderland retelling, but there are some cute references to other stories, such as Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. I did enjoy seeing the magic through Allie's eyes. The world building was well done without go overboard.

I enjoyed the twist in Allie's history in the last half of the book, and I really enjoyed the vague ending.

Spice-wise, there is some spice, but it doesn't go into a lot of detail. It's like the door is halfway ajar. There's is some dubious non-con in the first couple of interactions, so if that is a dead stop for you, this may not be the story for you.

Otherwise, I would recommend trying this story out, AFTER reading the first novel, Trapped by Clocks and Hearts.

A steam punk Alice in Wonderland!

I lived all the characters and seeing them in a new light and twisted from the original characters of Alice in Wonderland.

I started this book and then realised there was a prequel to it. I then went and read this first.

I don’t think it’s a must but does help with context in quite a few places.

In all honesty I preferred the prequel and would have happily left the story there. Whilst I love all the characters and was glad to see what happened next, for about 3/4 of the book I was quite confused (and that was with reading the prequel) and did not thing their development matched what I saw in the prequel.

I think the book could have been about 100 pages or so more so then ending could go more in depth as it felt slightly rushed to me, but I did think that in the first half of the book more could have happened.

Whilst I would recommend this book I would recommend the prequel more

Prequel is Trapped by Clocks and Hearts

Steampunk Alice in Wonderland

A good slow-build steampunk romance with Alice In Wonderland and Cinderella vibes, enemies-to-lovers (they have history), forced proximity, mystery, amnesia and survival, banter (love Chez), twists and a HEA. Easy to read with some great world building and characters; this was my first by SL Breaker and I really enjoyed reading it.

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
