I live in Broome, a tiny tropical beach town in the far north of Western Australia. It's my favorite place in the world, and a beautiful place to dream up stories. I also work week on, week off in mining, operating drill rigs out in the Pilbara. I absolutely love my job, and the banter of the boys on my team often creeps into my books! I've loved mafia romance since I was a teenager, so writing it has felt really natural. I also write historical fiction and travel memoir under the name Paula Constant, as well as fantasy/paranormal romance under the name Lucy Holden.

I absolutely loved this one. Like so many readers I’ve been patiently (who am I kidding) waiting for Alexei and Ofelia’s book. And I can tell you it didn’t disappoint.
This is a slow burn. We’re talking about 7 years of longing, dreams and bruised if not broken hearts.

But this is not just a love story. There’s so much more here. Someone powerful is trying to destroy Alexei.
Even with Lars and Mickey plus Mak they’re struggling to find the trail. There’s always a trail but this is unbelievably well hidden.

Will Alexei lose himself in revenge and Miami?
Or can he finally find the happiness he so desperately deserves.

I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by the author.

4.5stars- LETHAL OBSESSION is the fifth instalment in Paula Walshe’s contemporary, adult LETHAL LEGACY dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is Bratva Pakhan Alexei Petrovsky, and concert pianist Ofelia Borovsky’s story line. LETHAL OBSESSION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Alexei and Oelia) and one chapter from Benny LETHAL OBSESSION focuses on several intersecting pathways, and the forbidden relationship between our story line couple. Approximately seven years earlier Alexei Petgrovsky saved our heroine’s life but in doing almost lost the woman with whom he would fall in love. Fast forward to present day, Alexei seeks revenge for family and friends, and in doing so, begins a deep dive into the truth and reality about the past, and how it connects to the fight for power and control. Meanwhile, Alexei and Ofelia’s relationship becomes something more but their affair is seen as a betrayal by the men Ofelia calls father and brother.

The world building is complex, detailed and multi-layered as several connecting pathways begin to merge. Dirty law enforcement, corrupt politicians, and dangerous crime world figures all converge in a battle for control but the fall-out will take down a friend who struggles to survive in a world turned upside down.

The relationship between Ofelia and Alexei is a forbidden romance but one that has been building for several years. Alexei knows to cross a line means the threat of death but the heart wants the woman he saved years before, a woman who has fallen in love with our story line hero. The $ex scenes are intimate, provocative and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of diverse, colorful, dangerous and determined secondary and supporting characters many of whom we have met throughout the series. From family and friends to, once again, dirty law enforcement, corrupt politicians, and crime world leaders and soldiers, a battle for power and control, ends with the ultimate punishment for everyone involved.

LETHAL OBSESSION is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, greed and competition, family and friendships, forgiveness and love. The character driven premise is haunting, dramatic and edgy; the characters are desperate, tragic and emotional; the romance is fated, seductive and enthusiastic.

After loving the first four Lethal Legacy books, I enthusiastically volunteered to be an advanced reader and received a free copy of this book to review. And I’m so glad I did!

Paula Walshe KNOWS how to tell a story! I’ve been waiting for Alexei and Ofelia’s story, and it was absolutely worth the wait.

This is an epic slow burn with so much happening that I was completely hooked. There’s a beautiful love story, but there’s also murder, mayhem, chaos, and a group of sophisticated villains who are plotting something much bigger than your typical criminal takeover.

While this could technically be read as a standalone, I definitely recommend reading the previous books first. The found-family dynamic is one of my favorite parts of this series, and I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books make appearances. I especially loved getting more insight into Lars and Alexei’s friendship.

What really sets this series apart for me is the intelligence and intricacy of the plot. It has all the things you want from a great mafia romance while also giving you a layered story with complex characters you’ll love to root for.

I absolutely loved this book and can’t recommend it enough. Do yourself a favor and read it!

ARC Review, thanks Paula Walshe

"Lethal Obsession" is the fifth book in the "Lethal Legacy" series, and—holy hell—the storyline is epic. It is a top-notch book of considerable length, yet every single line is absolutely worth reading and savoring. It is extra-long because Paula Walshe wanted to avoid a cliffhanger-ridden duet, opting instead to pack the entire story into a single volume—and she did so masterfully.
In this book, the term "slow burn" takes on a whole new meaning, as the romance between Ofelia and Alexei unfolds over the course of seven years. And honestly, the reader has been waiting for this love story since the very first book; there were teasers in every installment leading up to the epic conclusion found here.
The story is multi-layered, vibrant, detailed, boisterous, and emotionally charged.
I shed so many tears, yet I also laughed. Beyond the palpable emotions—be it love, hate, loneliness, jealousy, friendship, rage, anger, mistrust, sadness, betrayal, or sexual tension—the book gains increasing momentum in terms of plot and unpredictable twists.
So many moving parts converge at the end that it is almost startling when the story finally concludes.
Places like Granada, Paris, Palermo, and Miami are described so wonderfully that you feel like you’re right there.
And last but not least, you encounter many familiar faces again—there’s an update on Luke and Zinaida, and Mak plays a significant role, hinting that the next book will be about him.
Highly recommended

The first thing I felt when I opened Paula Walshe’s Lethal Obsession was that it starts with tremendous momentum, the kind that grabs you by the lapel and doesn’t let go. The tension is palpable from the very first chapter, as if the air itself had become denser, heavierand that’s something Walshe handles masterfully. What’s more, the contrast between the characters’ flawless facades and what they’re hiding inside is painted with vivid strokes; you can almost feel the knot in your stomach as the truth begins to surface.
The author has a special gift for putting us in the protagonist’s shoes: her doubts, her racing heartbeat, that feeling of walking on thin ice without knowing if it’s going to give way at any moment. The dialogue sounds natural and real, as if you were eavesdropping on a conversation through a wall, not reading a script polished to perfection. There are scenes, especially those where the obsession begins to bare its fangs, that leave you holding your breath, glancing at the next page before you’ve even finished the current one.
Now, let’s talk about the details that could shine even brighter, right? Because it has more than enough potential to be unforgettable, and that’s where I want to gently steer the conversation. Sometimes the pacing gets a little off-balance: there are stretches where the story races along like lightning, and then suddenly comes to a screeching halt with explanations that might not have been necessary. It’s like riding in a car that accelerates and then slams on the brakes; it pulls you out of the experience a bit, making you feel like you’re just reading.
I also felt that some emotional nuances deserved a little more depth. There are major plot twists where the shift in feelings happens almost overnight, without us fully seeing the inner process. It’s as if someone were telling you, “Now feel this,” instead of letting you experience that change for yourself; you lose a tiny bit of connection—that intimacy that makes a book stay with you long after you’ve closed it.
On the other hand, I was fascinated by the antagonist’s characterization in the early stages -ambiguous, unsettling, unpredictable- but toward the end, he becomes a bit more predictable, as if he were following a path we’ve seen all too often. It’s a shame, because when he was allowed to be more complex, more contradictory, that was the best part of the book.
In short, Lethal Obsession is a gripping read that makes you feel and keeps you on your toes. It has soul, it has fire, and there are moments so well-written that they stay with you. With just a little fine-tuning of the pacing, letting us experience the internal shifts more deeply and trusting in the unpredictable darkness of its characters, the next story might not only appeal to us but tear us apart inside. And that, believe me, is what you long for when you open a book like this.
I can't wait to read Tereshenko's story; it sounds intriguing and exciting.
Thanks to the author for sending me an advance copy of the book.

Lethal Obsession by Paula Walshe

Another epic 5⭐️ read from Paula Walshe and a fantastic conclusion to a superb series!

This is the book we have all been desperately waiting for — Ofelia & Alexei’s story — and it absolutely does not disappoint. A slow burn seven years in the making, their relationship is built on a bond forged through trauma, and the payoff was everything I hoped it would be. They are truly soulmates, and when they finally allow themselves to love each other, their chemistry is absolutely all-consuming. 🔥

The writing flows effortlessly, making this a completely engaging and addictive read. This is a meaty book, but it never feels like it because the pages just keep turning. I was completely invested from beginning to end.

The plot was fantastic. There are so many moving parts, but everything unfolds so perfectly throughout the story. Paula did such an amazing job bringing all the threads together, keeping me hooked and delivering a story that felt both emotional and satisfying.

One of my favourite things was how Paula weaves all the characters from the previous books back into the story. Getting little updates on their lives felt like catching up with old friends, and I absolutely loved it. ❤️

This book was everything I wanted from the final instalment. An emotional, addictive, beautifully executed conclusion to a superb series.

The best was definitely left until last! 🖤

Thank you to the author for the ARC. This is my honest review.

Paula Walshe delivers an absolute powerhouse of a dark mafia romance in Lethal Obsession, the gripping fifth installment of the Lethal Legacy series. From the very first chapter, the high stakes tension in Miami’s criminal underworld is palpable, but it's the intense, slow burn emotional current between Alexei and Ofelia that truly steals the show. Bound by a secret, traumatic past where the lines between captor, protector, and savior were dangerously blurred, their dynamic is packed with exquisite angst and undeniable heat. Alexei is the ultimate morally gray antihero ruthless to the rest of the world, yet utterly consumed by a fierce, protective obsession for the one woman he considers off limits. Paula Walshe masterfully balances pulse pounding Bratva power plays with deep character development, making Ofelia’s journey of resilience and survival feel grounded and empowering amidst the chaos. If you love dark, steamy romance with possessive heroes, rich emotional stakes, and a razor sharp narrative pace, this is an absolute must read.

Omigod! I’ve been waiting for this story since book two when we got a good look and Alexei and Ophelia. It. Did. Not. Disappoint. There is tension, drama, SPICE, healing. I was laughing, bawling and at the edge of my seat. I am so glad that this universe isn’t closing because I’d probably go into withdrawals. I honestly and completely floored that this series isn’t bigger than it is. I really really hope that it will make it to audio before long.

Lethal Obsession is the fifth book in the Lethal Legacy series. Despite how they first met, Ofelia has always loved Alexei for years. She has always thought he felt something too so she keeps trying to pursue him. He is really cold to her, never returns her affection. He actually tells her he would rather be anywhere but there whenever he visits but he feels obligated to visit. He has protected her at her most vulnerable. She will never forget that but she wasn’t the only victim during the time she was captured, so was he. Her parents don’t know how she feels. Her father would kill Alexei if he ever found out. She wants a life with him and is willing to stand up to him. If only Alexei would let her inside his heart.

What Ofelia doesn’t know is that Alexei has also loved her for years but he doesn’t want her to know. He does not think he is worthy of that love so he makes her think he doesn’t feel the same way. He wants her to be happy and he sees how devastated she is every time he breaks her heart. He feels this is best. No one will ever understand what they share. It is something they have kept secret for both their sakes. They also won’t talk about it but do think about it. The things they went through together when she was kidnapped bonded them together forever. They had a connection the minute they met and it slowly became something else. He has been trying to avoid her for so long. However it is getting harder to do that when they are near each other. Sometimes he feels he needs to protect her and take over her security. The minute he lets his guard down, he lets her in. Now that he has felt what it’s like to be with Ofelia, he doesn’t want to let her go. Before he can even think of having any thoughts of a relationship with Ofelia, he must get rid of all the danger that surrounds them.

Paula Walshe had me on the edge of my seat throughout this book. It was heart-stopping, entertaining, and It just sucks you in right from the beginning. I felt bad for Ophelia not knowing how Alexei felt. My heart also broke when he thought he wasn’t worthy of her love. I was rooting for them since the prologue. The chemistry was intense. Anyone could see it but refused to admit what they saw in front of them. I mean, why would she wanna be with the one person who reminds her of a horrible experience . Alexei and Ophelia have a connection so deep, it seeps into their souls that they are inevitable. It’s only a matter of time before they finally give in. It was filled with so much action, heartbreak, heat, drama, humor, danger, suspense, secrets, betrayals, and insane and shocking twist. I’m so happy there will be another book in this series.

Lethal Obsession

I absolutely loved this series and Lethal Obsession was over the top with love, pain, passion, danger and excitement. From beginning to end I could barely stand to put it down. The characters of Alexei and Ofelia faced challenge after challenge from family, friends, Bratva, Cartels and Mafia together. I truly loved this book and wish the characters would have a follow up story at some point. I love the way the characters feel as if you are part of their lives and world.

I’m looking forward to reading Max’s story and would love to see a story involving Benny and Lars.

Absolutely worth the wait!

This book is absolutely worth the wait as e sleepless nights and exhausted mornings as I simply couldn't close the book... just one more chapter. Right! And during those chapters I found myself going from deliriously happy to tears slipping down my cheeks (several chapters in a row) to an eventual thoroughly satisfying ending. An end to one story but hopefully not the end of this amazing series where so many stories are still untold.

Calling all Mafia fans!
Ive been through this entire series and absolutely fell in love with Ophelia and Alexei in book two. She made us wait two whole books for the rest but it was so worth it. The tension between the two of them is absolutely palpable. The amount of healing the generational traumas is astounding. I am so sad this is the end of this series but glad that this universe isn't closing (because I'd probably go into withdrawals).

This story was beautiful. Long, detailed, fast-moving, emotional and beautiful.
Don't worry if you have not read the other stories in the series or if you are like me and it's been awhile.
It is still really enjoyable. And it's not just the main story of Ofelia and Alexsei but also another romance that progresses that will make you cry by the end. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
