I really have enjoyed this series way too much.
What I love most about manga and Japanese artists and authors, is how much they love time traveling (think Rumiko Takahashi who wrote the popular Inu-Yasha series). I didn't expect it from this series, but I do have to say, time traveling makes everything more complicated but fun.
This series is coming to a close (I can feel it - like I'm frozen on the edge of my seat waiting for the drop). Or maybe this arc will be wrapped up, but after this arc, not sure what else Suzuki can whip up for our main characters.
I'm currently up to date with this manga (Vol. 22 - Chapter 126, just waiting for translations), so I am eagerly waiting for everything to collide.

Finally got back to this manga series! This volume centers around the idea of Nanami going with her high school friends to Okinawa Island, and her shinshi sidekicks following along. Here her fox shinshi, Tomoe, delves more into what it is like for humans and their personalities of friendship, living in the now, and the grief of mortality. It makes both Nanami and Tomoe question their relationship; and the fact that human and ayakashi spirit lives are so different in life expectancy. Really want to see where the relationship goes now that they understand what the future may hold.

Only 5 volumes left 😭... I was happy that Nanami got to have some fun on her school trip after all. I liked that Tomoe is realizing more and more about what being human really means and how he doesn’t really understand it— and likewise how Nanami doesn’t fully appreciate what being a yokai means either. Though I can’t believe that Tomoe didn’t learn his lesson from before, when he almost died (twice) because he tried to become human... And I was a little disappointed in him (even if it isn’t out of character entirely as he can be a bit rash at times) for breaking Nanami’s trust and drinking the potion... and to drink ALL of it and not leave any left in case anything bad happened? For someone who’s supposedly smart he can be pretty dumb.
I would have at least asked the sea witch mermaid lady about the potion before I drank it...! And why doesn’t he even think about finding a way for Nanami to become non-human/immortal? I can’t believe that it couldn’t happen (since I know that in Japan there have been humans who became gods)...
I wish that viz would put the series on sale so I can buy it bc I do want to read it again as despite its flaws (especially in some of the earlier years), I really love this series. Even if it’s a little unbelievable that a 500++ year old being would fall for a 16-7 year old girl, the way their love is portrayed is really heartwarming, and all the characters are likeable for the most part.
Also I wonder if after her scary fall into the realm of yokai if the camera girl won’t risk exposing Kuruma after all? Or if that’s still going to be a potential threat...?
I was surprised to find that Tomoe was the one who had killed his friend... my guess is bc he killed Kifuji or whatever that woman was 500 years ago...? I’m also concerned that the oni is falling for Nanami too, in which case even if he doesn’t care about Tomoe anymore (not sure if I believe that’s true or not), that could end up causing big problems down the road...

Behold! The SPOILERS!
Why am I little disappointed with this volume? It doesn’t seem like I should be since I feel like it’s trying to contribute to the main plot of the series but for some reason I just think it doesn’t work.
I’ll start with the one thing I really like in this volume and that is Akura. I have a feeling that he is genuinely starting to change and he is just a little more human now. I mean, the dude genuinely felt hurt when Nanami told him that Tomoe is better than him and that he understands humans way better. I feel like there is a lot of potential in him to change and be better and I hope we can achieve this by the end of the manga.
But damn, the plotline about Tomoe wanting to be human and then turning into a fox didn’t work for me at all. Like yeah, I can see why he’d want that and why Nanami wouldn’t but this conflict just feels rushed and to be honest, a little forced. Besides Tomoe usually thinks things through a lot and him drinking that shit that turned him into a fox this quickly was just a little weird and I didn’t like it.
Unfortunately, I’ll have to give this one 2 stars because for me it’s just a major drop in quality. I hope that Tomoe turns back into his normal self soon and that we can see more of Akura developing into a better person in the next volume.

Thoughts:
- FINALLY KIRIHITO REALIZES THAT HE MET NANAMI 500 YEARS AGO! I'm so friggin pumped. All the information is coming to the surface.
- I hope Tomoe meets Kirihito and they have a good, long conversation and bromance it out.
- I also hope Tomoe doesn't stay in fox form for too long; it's already a little boring, and I feel like it's just there to keep the plot from advancing since we need to drag this whole thing out for another five volumes.
- I feel so shook; Tomoe's trying so hard to become human. I'm cheering him on, though. He deserves this. However, I think it should happen very near the end of the series. Like, in the last volume.
- When I saw Nanami holding the transformation drink, I was so afraid she was going to drop it and ruin everything. She didn't drop it, but things went wrong anyways (hence Tomoe's fox form).
- A part of me was absolutely hoping Kirihito would kiss Nanami in that one scene. Alas, this did not occur. It was funny that she stomped on his foot, though. Like, you go girl. Even so, I love love love Kirihito; I hope he gives up on his mission, I hope he never transforms back into Akura-oh, and I hope he grudgingly becomes the squad's friend (sort of like Kurama. They would make such a good emo pair, man *swoons*).

Nooo Tomoe jajajaaj se transformo en zorro u.u
Igual me dio penita que haya visto con sus propios ojos lo que le pasa a un humano con el tiempo u.u y que le de miedo es...entendible. Ser joven y guapo mientras la persona que ama va envejeciendo cada vez más hasta que está en su lecho de muerte, es una pelea que no puede ganar con un adversario con el que no puede pelear, es innevitable y entiendo que quiera volverse humano para envejecer con ella (flahsbacks de Princesa Mecánica). Pero también entiendo el por qué Nanami estaba en contra al principio. Me hicieron llorar, no voy a mentir.
Me dio risa una parte en la que Tomoe dice que Nanami es muy infantil e ingenua, bro tiene 16 años, POR SUPUESTO que es infantil e ingenua, que esperas.
Me encanta ver la relación de confianza y seguridad que tiene Tomoe con Mikage. Como cuando se volvió zorro se acostó en las piernas de Mikage aunque estaba enojado y dejaba que lo cepillaran.
Como se atreve el rey Akura a estar en el cuerpo de alguien tan guapo como Kirihito, me gusta el look pero no la personalidad *sentimientos encontrados*.
PD: yo igual le habría puesto un babero a Tomoe zorro ajjaja la verdad me decepciona que Mizuki no lo moleste más.

Tomoe's stuck in a fox form and he's being so grumpy about it 😂💖
As the school trip continues, Tomoe watches as Nanami enjoys her time being surrounded by her friends and other humans. An encounter with an old shrine deity that Tomoe met many decades ago makes Tomoe realise just how fleeting human lives are. He does not want Nanami to die before him, so he wants to become a human as soon as he can.
Kurama probably just wants to be helpful but the plan ends up backfiring and instead of evolving into a human, Tomoe evolves into his fox form and is stuck in it 😂 of course he sulks and refuses to be with Nanami. I feel sorry for laughing but it's too funny and whenever Nanami surprises him with a hug, the way he screams and runs away is too cute 💗💗

Tomoe decide convertirse en humano, lo cual es un poco complicado no solo técnicamente sino porque zorro-kun todavía ve a los humanos como seres inferiores y si no fuera porque Nanami es humana ni siquiera lo estaría considerando. Por otro lado a Nanami aun le falta madurar para perderle un poco de miedo al futuro y entender a los demonios, por suerte Mikage esta ahora en el juego y con su ayuda puede dar un paso más adelante.
Tomoe y Nanami estaban llegando a un finalmente pero el zorro digno a su personalidad decidió beberse la pocima que lo volvería humano antes del tiempo prometido y ahora es eso... un pequeño y lindo zorrito, quizás así pueda aprender mejor lo que ser humano significa. ´
Por otro lado tenemos a Kirihito quien esta cada vez más cerca de recuperar su cuerpo del inframundo pero a la vez esta más lejos de su naturaleza de demonio, al parecer leeremos más de su relación con Tomoe pronto.

🌸Es el tercer día del viaje escolar y parece que Nanami y sus amigos finalmente tendrán la oportunidad de disfrutar Okinawa. Sin embargo, Mikage aparece con una tarea de shinshi para Tomoe: entregar un regalo a la doncella del santuario local. Pero el simple recado tiene consecuencias complicadas ya que Tomoe se ve obligada a enfrentar la mortalidad de Nanami y la aparente imposibilidad de que un yokai y un humano vivan juntos felices para siempre.🌸

Basically, Tomoe wants to be human so he can be with Nanami and not have to go on living for centuries after she dies, but Nanami doesn't want him to because she doesn't want him to ever die. Mikage shows her what happens to a yokai who loves a human and goes on living when the human dies, the misery, the agony of it. So, Nanami changes her mind. Hopefully, this will be a reminder to her to at least try to think if the bigger picture in future. Also, during all of this, Nanami runs into Akura-Oh and barely gets away. She decides not to tell Tomoe about it. Why? It clearly didn't go well for her the last time she decided not to tell him something. She eventually did tell him, but almost as an afterthought. I love this story and I think the characters are developing nicely, for the most part. I just wish Nanami would learn that keeping things from Tomoe is a very bad idea.

First there was tiny Tomoe and now there's fox Tomoe, both cute! And is kirihito turning human? That scene with his mother certainly seems so or at least it shows that he cares about some humans anyway.

- I hope Nanami doesn't get killed by Yatori
- I also don't want Kirihito to keep Yatori for too long. The guy is way too obsessed and I get the feeling he's going to do something that he's going to regret but who cares I don't even like him. His charismatic attitude towards kilking people and his outlandish personality drives me nuts.

AMAZING book. I loved how the series is now dealing with the fact that he’s immortal and she isn’t and I love how he’s trying so hard to ensure they have a good life together. When he sees her with human friends, he notices how different she gets and he struggles to connect with those emotions. Then he gets thinking about how he’s immortal and she isn’t so it opens up all these feelings of the future and wanting to be together. Unfortunately, his attempt doesn’t end how he’s wanting it to. I look forward to the next one.

I'm going to leave the same review for all the volumes. I LOVED this manga so much and am trying to collect all the physical copies. I was originally reading it online when it was still coming out
There are a lot of characters. Only some are the main characters, but we see and get to know the side characters also. World building was nicely done in typical youkai fashion, and the romance was very cute

4/5 ahhh girlhood😭😭, i’ve major issues with the writin decisions regardin tomoe’s character but him realizin the short nature of human’s lives n our sensitivity really hit me n made me cry, the kirihito shit makes the story drag so much, has kirihito absorbed some of nanami’s heart n that’s why her words impacted him?, the special ep was cutie, ughhh kk as a whole could be so much better with some of the extra weird shit just trimmed off

Mis unicos capítulos favoritos fue cuando Nanami viajó al pasado para ayudar a Tomoe.
No me voy a molestar en leer los capítulos restantes porque es todo demasiado cursi, hasta la actitud tan sarcástica de Tomoe que tanto me gustaba cambió.
Puro romance con Nanami metiendose en problemas, Tomoe rescantandola y nada de acción.
Están mejor Akatsuki no Yona o Skip Beat!
