On This Day in Connecticut History

Rate this book
Connecticut's character runs much deeper than breathtaking fall foliage and quaint coastal towns. One day at a time, author Gregg Mangan chronicles fascinating episodes in state history, from the earliest European settlements to the modern era. After a lengthy debate, the state senate voted in favor of "Yankee Doodle" as the official state song on March 16, 1978. Bridgeport's General Electric Company completed work on the bazooka on June 14, 1942. On the morning of December 4, 1891, the only four-train collision in American history occurred at the railroad station in East Thompson. Each date on the calendar holds a nugget of knowledge in this celebration of Constitution State history.

I read all the history of all the days (365 days per year, plus the additional day as the leap day).

This book talks about the state's history in order of day-by-day.

There are a lot of the state's history in this book, many are interesting. Some of them are recent that aren't too bad. There is history in a lot of subjects like the people, the places, politics, and many others. Don't have any much history of my hometown in this book.

This book takes a curiosity look right from the settlement of Connecticut to the recent years.

Highly recommended for the citizens of that state. Anyone who are residents of that state should read this book.

This is a fascinating look at CT history and just perfect for people like me who don't like to read "history" text books. There are 365 different entries about history in CT, featuring typical history, human interest and trivia. From how Bradley Field got it's name to the Wadsworth to when I-95 opened, this is a fun read for any CT resident curious about the state.

Started this book and found out I needed to read a couple of day’s at a time to digest all the information. This book contains some great information about Connecticut and made me want to explore more of the numerous books listed in the bibliography.

I really enjoyed this book. Bitesize chunks of Connecticut history delivered over the daily calendar. Major and minor events. Inventions, crime, and human-interest stories. It's all here in this book. If you're from Connecticut I think you'll enjoy it even if you're not a history buff. I sure did.
