This was like a mix of Fatal Attraction and The Craft- with shifters.

Possible spoilers ahead

The book starts where the FMC gets a call that she needs to come back to the pack to investigate all the murders. Her mom was one victim. We find out the Alpha was just murdered and now his son (H) is now the Alpha. We also learn that h is *fated mates* with H.

Backstory- H and h have always loved each other and knew they were mates. A human was killed on pack land. h wanted it investigated but the pack didn’t. They exiled her, and H stood there and agreed with her being exiled. What a wimp. So right off the bat, a wimp hero who couldn’t fight for his mate. H’s BFF is Callum, and Callum is super suss. Smirks a lot.

h shows up to investigate.
Callum’s sweet, innocent sister, Lydia, is hanging around and she’s all over H. Honestly, I almost DNF right here because I already knew WHO the villain was. And why she was the villain. It was so clearly obvious.

Naturally, Lydia has calculation in her eyeballs that only h can see.
HOW DO YOU SEE CALCULATION?
I get that you can see grief, happiness, or shock….but calculation? 😂 GTFOOH

There’s a whole bunch of nonsense that happens, but basically crazy lady Lydia is behind everything. She is boiling bunny insane. Like….for real INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE. Her only goal in life is the hero. She even had another alpha that turned out to be her mate and she rejected him. She only wanted H. She systematically planned everything to get him. She ☠️☠️ a whole lot of people. She was shredding up wedding dresses and stapling H’s pictures all over her walls.
Lydia has been playing the long game.
This loon had basically pissed a circle around H marking her territory. Anybody with any sense would have picked up on this.

h even told H a few times “hey, ummmm, I really think Lydia may really LIKE you” and he’d be all like “naw, she’s just a sweet girl who has nobody” 🤡
JFC I couldn’t be with somebody so dumb.

Then we find out closer to the end that after H’s dad was murdered (by Lydia) that Lydia did actually come to H and tell him that she loves him and wants to be with him. He rejected her, tho. He let her down gently and told her that he will always love only h.
Yeah….i just don’t understand why Lydia wasn’t suspect #1 when somebody started trying to ☠️ h.

We have the showdown between Lydia and h (because Lydia found out h was pregnant) and Lydia has all the black magic. H makes it in time and he almost ☠️ Lydia, but he stopped at the last moment. Idiot

Then double idiot move activated- Lydia is in the dungeon and h goes to see her. Lydia is crying and promising she’ll be good. h almost believes it. THEN h sees the calculation and schemes in Lydia’s eyeballs again. 👀
Again, Lydia has overpowered h, but H makes it in time….again. This time he finally rips out her throat. Finally!

We get a HEA months later with a new baby daughter.
Callum has been redeemed (Lydia’s brother)


If you like crazy OW drama, then you may like this. I do usually really enjoy this author’s shifter books.
