She succeeded in making him feel like a man. A normal functioning man when he hadn’t felt that way in years.
"Who're you f*cking?"
When my father, manager of the worldwide phenomenon Kinky Shine, asked me to come and help the band members appear more approachable I never thought my first meeting with Dex Bowers would start with such a question.
Immediately, I wanted to strangle him, wipe the smirk off his face and force him to mutter more than three words.
But there's something mysterious about him that was electrifying and the more he pushed me away and angered me, the more I wanted to know him and push through his hangups.
"Trust. That f*cking trust thing didn't come easily to me."
In the five years since my band became famous, not once had I been photographed with a woman. I knew it fed the supposed mystery surrounding me, but the real truth was far more humiliating than I was comfortable with.
That was until Harley Floyd walked in and I was left with a mind numbing lust for her that scared me shitless. It should be easy to let go and trust her just enough to have fun, to be happy I could finally come up with new material for our next album. But nothing was easy and with a life made of sex, drugs, and rock n' roll I wasn't sure if anything could last. Not even my band.
"What twenty-five year old was f*cking lost when his cock was rock hard when close to a gorgeous woman? One answer to that; a man who hadn’t had sex in a really long time."
Stephanie Witter, in her twenties, lives in France where she comes up with book ideas on her laptop, notebook or phone. When she's not writing the day away, she likes visiting museums or shopping to add another nail polish to her already huge collection. She's also unable to resist the appeal of new books, even when she knows she can't possibly have the time to read yet another one. She's happy to have a to-read pile so high she can never put a dent into it even if she tries her best.
Dex the first book in the Kinky Shine series was a really good read. I don't read many Rockstar romances because a ton of them have cheating and that is a huge pet peeve of mine. But when I saw Dex I was drawn to the cover. I liked the blurb and decided to give it a try. I am glad I did. I really enjoyed this book. I was also really surprised and happy to see there was not other woman drama or cheating in this book.
I really liked everyone in this book. I liked the main couple Dex and Harley. I liked the other band members, Harley's parents and I liked Del, Harley's best friend. Dex was the lead singer and song writer for the band Kinky Shine. Dex was a broody, sexy, asshole with charm and a ton of issues. Dex hasn't been with a woman at all in 2 years and hasn't had sex in 7 years. His issues made him endearing and I could totally understand his grumpy attitude. Harley was a cute blend of sassy and shy. A blogger for Music bands Harley is there to get Kinky Shine on social media. Harley and Dex have a strong connection from the start but because of Dex's issues he pushes her away.
I loved that only Harley got to Dex. That he only had eyes for her. It made her special and their relationship sweeter. I also loved how understanding and supportive Harley was to Dex. When he would get scared or upset and freak out. Harley was quick to forgive, but Dex was quick to say sorry too. Which in my book made him easier to forgive not that he ever did anything too awful. In this book we get to meet the other members of the band Maxen, Beckett, and Otis . I really liked Beck, Otis, and Maxen. They were all very different and charming in their own way. I felt the author did a great job of drawing me in as a reader and getting me invested in the other band members lives. Which makes me want to read all their books. Especially Beck's for some reason I really clicked with him. I believe Maxen's books is next to come out and I can't wait.
This one was an ok read for me that passed the time nicely. Although I liked the writing style and the promise of the premise, I missed something there. I didn’t really feel connected to Dex and that prevented me to fully get into the story and enjoy the book. I was looking for more emotion, depth and overall background for these characters. Honestly it was all me and my preferences at fault here.
Anyway I would read the next book in the series just to see what happens to Maxen that I found really intriguing!
Rocker books scare the shit out of me. So much opportunity for drama and angst. Thank goodness this book stayed away from much of it.
Dex had something bad happen to him in the past. I know I cannot relate, but his issues seem out of proportion to what happened. It was strange his mother issues were never discussed with the heroine. I felt that was a plot hole. Otherwise, I thought his issues were handled well and not so fast that it was unbelievable.
Anyway, Dex is a grumpy sexy ass. He has major head issues and cannot understand his attraction to Harley. So he is mean, hot and cold (mostly cold) and very negative and insecure. But somehow he still manages to be HOT!
Harley is pretty cool. A bit young for me to really identify with. A bit annoying at times, more insecure than her attitude suggests, but she handled Dex really well. Towards the end I thought she was going to do something to piss me off, but thank goodness she did exactly the right thing! I am so happy the author did not take a cheap opportunity to add more needless drama.
The rest of the band was intriguing. I am not sure about Maxen's book. He is such a manwhore, I am not sure I will enjoy his book. Especially if his heroine is someone he already knows. I mean he screws everything that moves. I just cannot see past that for someone who has had to witness it.
All in all a solid rockstar read. Not too angsty (but there was a bit). Absolutely no OW/OM issues. There were some editing issues. Based on some word choices I could tell author was not a native English speaker (but still extremely well written).
Oh and I LOVED the epilogue! It was sweet and just what I needs to wrap the story!
3.5stars! I enjoyed most of this. The hero at first was a bit of an ass. But I grew to love him .Herione was great! She didn't let anyone push her around . Yes I wanted her to make hero grovel just a bit more at times but I liked her! There were times that both hero and heroine didn't make the best decisions(especially hero) and it frustrated me. The sexual buildup was HOT!! Their chemistry was yummy:) I thought together they were great!I loved the band guys. Their banter was funny and I liked how they were all there for each other. Now Maxen hero's best friend is a manwhore and normally I wouldn't want to read his book but I think I might try it. all the guys books are a maybe:)I think Otis was the one to party hard but we dont see him with lots of women just I think kissing one or two amd beckett was more tamer. only seen him kiss one girl I think. Epilogue was sweet but I wanted more!
Safety: Ok so it was pretty safe! Hero has been celibate for 2 years and hasn't had real sex for 7 (since high school)! Now there is a reason why though! Let's just say he had trust issues from the past that affected him getting hard!lol He does mention how he was good with his fingers and mouth(sorry Soonya) lol . he tried to have sex a handful of times but could never cum so for the last 2 years he is abstinent! Now I have to mention this and I don't think my GR friends are going to like this because I didn't, during that time right before he was celibate his band mate paid a hooker to give him a bj to see if that worked but of course it didn't! I really could of done without that . that's one of the reason I didn't rate it higher it stuck with me for a bit. But herione is definitely the best ever!he says it more than once!I do believe she is special to him. I didn't get that he was a manwhore at all even before his little problem. Heroine had two boyfriends. The last one she broke up with a year and a half ago which is the last time she had sex. She doesn't do casual sex or ONS! She does say she enjoyed sex very much before but it was never like it was with hero! They both are each other's best! No OW/OM drama. Well hero best friend teases hero and says she's hot and he wouldnt mind banging her etc. It was all kinds of funny. No mention of condom use in the past but I'm positive they always did:)they always used them together.
This may be a case of me not getting on with an author’s writing style, and being written in 1st person didn't help, but this book just got so repetitive, I found myself skimming without even realizing I was doing it. Paragraphs like the below -
I walked to the table and took the chair opposite her at the round table. I took off my sunglasses and put them on the table...
Where the table is the focal point and then descriptive as follows, where the same sentence starter is used repetitively seemed to be reoccurring themes, and it just dragged everything out interminably for me.
For the first time in years, a woman had my complete and undivided attention. For the first time in years, a woman fascinated me.
For me this book could just use a really good dose of ninja editing, to cut out a lot of the random and regularly overly flowery stuff to move up the pace of plot development a bit, and repetitive information sharing (I get that two of Kinky Shine have pierced eyebrows, it didn't need to be bought up so much, and yes I got that Dex likes Aviator sunglasses) overload pared down, most readers have decent memories so don't need to have something revealed or reiterated more than a couple of times, to remember it as the story progresses.
"We don’t need to like each other to work together."
I liked some of the banter between Dex and Harley, but again it all got a bit lost with the lengthy internal monologues from both of them about how the other was making them feel, their growing attraction to each other etc...
Sadly not a winner for me on this occasion.

I love rockers and this book was such a pleasant surprise! Harley is a blogger with a large following and she is about to interview Dex, the frontman of Kinky Shine, a famous band. She is excited because she is a huge fan...but what happens when the interview goes horribly wrong? Harley's opinion of the famous rocker is shattered when he opens his mouth for the first time and insults her. What Dex doesn't know is that Harley is the woman that will help Kinky Shine approach a larger audience through media sites.
"I can't really say it was a pleasure meeting you. Good thing you make amazing music because you're one huge jerk." ~Harley
Harley is smart, witty and she is not afraid to express her opinion. Dex is moody and brooding and that will clash with Harley's vibrant personality. Can these two work together? Fabulous writing! Dex was a complicated hero with a heavy secret. When he meets Harley, he is immediately attracted to her. His response to her threatens to destroy his tightly held control. Will he be able to open up to the one woman who managed to make him feel confident in himself again? Read to find out! Stephanie Witter gives us a solid story with naughty rockers and well rounded characters. Sometimes sweet, sometimes rougher, Dex will make you swoon, smile and he will surely melt your Kindle! The writing is engaging and I am certain that you will fall in love with every single character. I cannot wait for Maxen's story! I highly recommend this!
Harley Floyd, 23, is a communications graduate and blogger working on an assignment for her father, a musician manager. Rock band, Kinky Shine has made it to the top, but they won’t stay there if frontman and songwriter, Dex Bowers, 25, can’t get past his writer’s block. Dex is carrying the weight of the band on his shoulders and some hang-ups from his past.
“‘A rock star who doesn’t fuck is an anomaly.’”
This! I loved how Dex broke the typical rock star manwhore mold. I simply adored this premise. It was far sweeter and sexier than reading about a guy who has bed a lot of women. Kudos to the author for taking this much more original angle. Dex is a keeper, a total book boyfriend.
“For the first time in years, a woman had my complete and undivided attention. For the first time in years, a woman fascinated me. And I was hard as concrete.”
The characters, really all of them, not even just Dex and Harley, pulled me in and came to life. As a rocker romance, it’s just as much about the band sticking together as it is about Dex and Harley making it work. The band’s banter was fun, and I enjoyed how the supporting characters mostly geared them in the right direction. Harley is a strong female character who isn’t pushed around. That’s always a plus with the heroine. But Dex, especially, was pretty enthralling as the elusive bad boy rocker who’s tormented by his past—broken—and yet the tone keeps it engaging and somehow hopeful, allowing the story to avoid getting bogged down with too much heaviness. There is a great balance of serious issues alongside a super sexy story.
“She rocked my fucking world with just a brush of lips.”
Oh and is it hot! The author definitely knows how to build up the heat and doesn’t disappoint with the steam factor.
“‘I’m going to strip you naked and then you’re going to get on all fours on the bed…’”
There is no mistaking the chemistry between Dex and Harley long before they even get to that point. I was fanning myself at midnight while reading. And I really liked them as a couple. That’s not to say that Dex and Harley didn’t both irk me in certain places with the way they handled different situations or that they always treated the other how they should have, but overall they were good characters who were growing and those little hang-ups moved along quickly. There’s no strung out angst here.
Told via Dex and Harley’s first person point of view, Dex is the first book in the Kinky Shine series, which features each member of the band. Maxen’s story is next.
*ARC received in exchange for an honest review/Release Blitz 5/3
I really loved both MCs by the end and the secondary characters. I thought Dex's reaction to Harley keeping something from him for one day was a bit OTT. All in all this was a good read and I look forward to more Kinky Shine books.
I think I just found my new rock book boyfriend. When first meeting him you may not think he would be worthy of that title but once you know how everything in Dex’s life made him you may change your mind too. Dex is the front man for killer rock band Kinky Shine. He gives you that dark and brooding character that you aren’t too sure you want to approach but his stage presence and sexy swagger makes you want to have your way with him.
Harley comes into Kinky Shine’s existence because she is a popular music blogger and is hired by the band’s record label to help the guys get themselves out there on social media. Harley is familiar with music since her dad is manager for Kinky Shine but don’t let that take anything away from her professionalism since she had been on her own living in New York creating a very popular music blog. Harley’s first meeting with Dex sets the tumultuous tone for the beginning for Dex and Harley. Dex, without knowing who Harley actually is, was wondering who she had to sleep with in order to get this interview with him and Harley thinks he is the biggest jerk around. That’s the thing about Harley; she is a strong female who doesn’t let the rock persona have any effect on her. She is there to do a job with this band and they damn well better listen and do what she says.
Dex has some issues that no one would ever guess with him being this larger than life sex symbol. Only his band members know of his problem and have tried everything they could think of to help him through it. The guys are probably the first to see that Harley may be that person to help Dex out. It is hard for Dex to trust but slowly Harley starts to break his walls down. Will this rejuvenate Dex’s ability to write music for their next album since he has had writers block for some time now? Is Harley able to see past Dex being such a jerk and help him and his band through some hard times?
I have to say that for as many rock romances I have read, and believe me I try to read everything with a rocker in them, this was one of the better books. I loved the push/pull between Harley and Dex along with some of the background for the other guys in the band. I cannot wait to hear each of their stories too because this band has a lot that’s being hidden. So if you love rockers and some pretty hot scenes this is definitely a book for you. I know I have just found myself another author that I’m looking forward to seeing what she can come out with next.
This book was provided as an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
Harley is given the opportunity of the lifetime when she is asked by her father to look after the band, Kinky Shine's social media. But the band isn't all too happy about her presence there. And throw in Dex Bowers, lead of the band, who instantly comes off as an asshole to her, maybe Harley's dream job is turning more into a nightmare? But sparks fly between the two and sometimes there is a very fine line between hate and love, a line these two may be crossing.
“Do you feel that need right here, right now as if you can’t f***ing wait to let me f*** you senseless until we’re both spent and unable to move a f***ing inch anymore?’’
This is a fun, exciting and interesting read for those that love a rocker romance like Whethering The Storm." It's a whirlwind read, with passion, hate, love, sex, drama, lies and brilliant complex characters who will make you laugh out loud, want to throw your kindle and cuddle it at the same time!
"To me, he was the sexiest man alive right this second because he let his vulnerability, his fears show."
Dex and Harely were a great match from the start in my opinion. They complemented each other so well and they both had such strong personalities; the both needed someone who would stand strong and not let the other get away with anything.
"I didn’t know what to do at this very moment. I felt so much at once; fear, excitement, impatience, hope even and so many more things I couldn’t put a word on. But that didn’t erase my doubts."
Dex was definitely moody, silent and troubled. But he was also funny, vulnerable, sexy and sweet and caring when he needed to be. Harley was strong and determined. She wasn't going to let anyone push her around and she really wanted to help Dex get past his block; both in music and relationships.
“You’re my everything. It’s as complex and simple as that. You’re my everything.’’
I've always been a fan of this kind of romance, where love, sex and rock n roll come together. And this was a perfect read for that. Not only did we have two great leads, we also had the other guys in the band, Maxen, Otis, and Beckett, who were also brilliant characters, so fun to read about and to delve into each of their individual personalities. The plot kept me entertained and the writing just flowed so well. We had the bad boy rocker element and the hot sex element but we also had trauma, vulnerability and drama. A perfect rock n roll romance!
When you finish a book and actually have to email the author personally to THANK HER for creating such an awesome book - you know it's serious.
This book floored me. There was something about it that completely enraptured me and made me get the "feels" all over!!!
This is not your typical rock star romance at all. There was no crazy drama…no thirsty groupies causing problems…no crazy ex’s that pop up out of the woodwork. None.
Kinky Shine consists of the following band mates – Dex, Maxen, Otis & Beckett. Kinky Shine is managed by David Floyd. David has called up on his daughter, Harley, to help the image of the band with the public.
Harley & Dex’s first meeting does not go well at all. It was like watching a train wreck happen in slow motion. But from there, it all starts to fall into place- albeit without its ups and downs.
You can’t help but fall hopelessly in love with our H and h.
Dex’s story will blow your mind. Threw me for a total loop! But Harley’s persistence to help him will make your heart melt and set your underwear on fire!!!
There is nothing about this story that I didn’t like (shockingly). I am SO looking forward to the rest of this series because the other guys in the band leave their own imprint on you, full of curiosity and wondering what their background stories were and who was going to help them.
So, with that (sorry I didn’t go too in-depth with the review), believe me when I say – READ IT!!!!
ARC provided by the publisher via NetGalley for an honest review.
Another one of those rock star romances I love so much! I loved Dex and liked his story- it's new, it's original and a bit funny. What I appreciated most about Harley is her being a blogger. I don't remember ever reading about a character with that kind of career, and because I'm a blogger myself, it offered me an opportunity to, in a way, understand her feeling and fears.
The only thing a had a difficulty with were the main conflict and the climax, because they both seem a bit weak. I didn't feel the real danger for Dex's and Harley's relationship, and actually kept waiting for the real problem to occur, only to realize their problems were already solved.
On the other hand, this novel did make me curious about the other 3 band members (especially Maxen :P), so I will be checking out the sequels for sure.
Wow, first read by this author and I really liked it a lot! Dex and Harley, ahhhhhh, what can I say except they were terrific individuals and together they were magic bliss.......
Ok so why not 5 Stars well, let me try and explain. The writing was very good, the storyline itself was very good but for me, the whole "sexual" issues Dex had, hmmmm, I wasn't quite onboard 100% with it. I mean I get it and I was onboard with it but it seemed way too far-fetched BUT don't get me wrong though because it was incredibly HOT, lol Now also, the only issue I found with the writing was the way it flowed, the characters and the way their storyline flowed for me seemed a little abrupt at times, it wasn't "smooth". First off Harley needed to let him grovel and I mean seriously grovel at a couple of incidents between them. For me, the way he spoke to her on a couple of different occasions was fairly "cruel" and degrading and she should have made him work a lot harder than he did, she was too forgiving too fast but yet...gosh how could you not with him, lololol. Also there was an incident related to this thought process of mine in relation to Maxen and for me, I wouldn't have minded a bit more "angst" out of that situation.... I don't know sometimes it was too "easy" and "safe" and don't get me wrong I loved it but yet I do like a bit of nail biter moment(s) thrown in there too!
Sounds crazy Dex was near perfect except for a few times and Harley well, she was great but too forgiving at times and also towards the end I get how she was being realistic with his demands, lol, but she was being too stubborn at first for me. It was VERY clear how much they loved each other especially him but yet the way the author wrote it for me, made it feel awkward and forced. Hard to explain because they were so good together but wished some parts played out "smoother" for me, more "natural", lol!
All in all a very good read. Part of me is dying to read Maxen's story BUT because I know about his ManHo ways in this story and I am not sure how I will feel about it either lol reading about his exploits. I LOVED Maxen's character though but again just not sure how I will feel when it's his story BUT I do plan on reading it!!!!

I saw this book on my feeds a while back and I was intrigued. Then I saw a heap of my GR friends raving about it and it made my must read list so as soon as I had a few hours to myself I sat down and dove in.
Now I know a lot of people will see 3.5 stars and think that I didn’t like this book so first I need you to know that I did like this book I just didn’t love it and there were a few things that pissed me off. Now honestly I don’t normally read a lot of rock star books, which isn’t to say I am not a fan of them I just generally don’t like the “lifestyle” I don’t want the leading man to be a massive man whore while we watch the ladies heart shattering. So when it became apparent that Dex was far from a man whore I was stoked.
Then I hear about the growling, possessiveness of Dex and the smoking hot sex scenes and Bam I was sold, I had one click this. And I absolutely got all of that and I enjoyed it.
What I didn’t like were things that are my own personal peeves and obviously are not issues for a lot of other people. But I will let you know what they are so you can decide for yourself on whether or not these things will make you all ranty to your husband when he really couldn’t give a fuck.
First I should let you all know my dad was a high school English teacher, and while I managed to not become a grammar nazi I do go a little nuts when there are a lot of editorial issues in a book. For me personally I can overlook a few words here and there missed in the editing process but I can’t handle it being constant and I really can’t stay in a story when all I want to do is drag out my red marker and figure out how it should have been written. There were a couple of times I am sure the names were wrong and I had to stop myself hunting through the book to see if I was right or not.
Also there were quite a few times in this book that one or both of them acted like 15 year old kids and while there is a reason given for some of this it just got to be too much, especially having the reason repeated a few too many times.
I actually did quite like Harley but the author did that almost unforgivable thing of making her naïve. Now I say almost unforgivable cause thank god she wasn’t also a virgin that would be instant black list. But when you explain her career and her father’s career and then have her be shocked about a rockers lifestyle and I am not even talking gangbangs and crack pipes you kinda lose your credibility. I think everyone hears rock star and assumes there’s sex, drugs and rock and roll but nope not Harley.
Now there are a few other points that made me a little stabby but in the interest of not spoiling anything I am going to leave it at that and ask you to PM me if you need to vent about them to someone who won’t just suggest, and I quote “read a book that will get me laid instead”
And I will wrap this all up by saying I loved the plot, I loved the idea of the characters and at quite a few times I forgot I was annoyed with this, that or the other and genuinely enjoyed the book. I also have to know what happens to the other members of Kinky Shine so I will be adding them to my TBR black hole but they won’t make the must read list. I honestly think personally a good editor and maybe trimming some of the superfluous drama and repetition and this book would have been a kick ass rock star book but as it is I just found it be a book I wish I could have enjoyed.
This was a totally different read for me. I am usually the MC, Mafia, Murder girl so when this turned up on my Kindle I didn’t know what to think as I hate when I don’t care for a book and have to write a review. HOW WRONG WAS I? This was so good. I loved the characters and loved the fact that the story wasn’t focused on the “rock star” tours, screaming women, etc. This was so much more and what a story it is.
Dex Bowers is the lead singer of Kinky Shine. The man is a beautiful creature and a mysterious one at that. He rarely speaks in more than two or three word sentences and no one knows who he really is. This is exactly how Dex likes it. His band mates know some of the trama that has caused him to blend in with the shadows but not all of it. They know enough to understand and not push. After a great tour and a landslide record Dex cant seem to get a song out of his head; meaning he cant seem to get anything down on paper; not a lyric, not a verse not a chord …. Not only he is having a writers block but he has just insulted the one woman he should not have. Better yet he doesn’t understand the reaction he has having to her either.
Harley Floyd has been a fan of Kinky Shine for as long as they have been around. Her father manages them and he has asked her to help push them further into the limelight; trusting her to handle them as she is the best. Sitting in front of her is the guy whose music she has admired … but this man is the biggest jerk she has ever met. Did he really just ask her what she thinks he did?
Harley is a strong female lead and I love that. Dex is a brooding male lead with issues he doesn’t care to explain to Harley. The chemistry between these two is something but it comes with hurdles. The love story between these two will blow you away. I loved what stood between them as it blew apart the womanizing rock star. Not that I would wish on anyone what Dex had been through but it the storyline was brilliant.
This is the first book in the Kinky Shine series. Next up is Maxen! I cant wait to get my hands on it not only to hear his story but to also continue to see where Dex and Harley are!
Great read and a start to a great series! Thank you so much for the ARC! I LOVED THIS! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.
This was such a breathe of fresh air. You get so used to rock stars being a certain way or at least acting like idiots. Believe me Dex's bandmates make up for the dumb stuff he's not doing. You still have the sex, drugs and rock n roll in this book. Dex is a different kind of rock star.. He's kinda a mystery. He keeps to himself but still hangs with the guys. A mix up in the past, has destroyed him from being intimate or from having a relationship with a woman. This all changes when he meets Harley. Harley is their manager's daughter but gets a opportunity to blog about the band. She never expected to fall for a rock star. These two take baby steps to build their relationship and I think it makes them stronger in the end. Harley becomes Dex's muse in many ways then one. I really enjoyed this book and how it was different from so many I've read. I can't wait to read Maxen's book. I think I found a new rock star series to love!
There are some things Dex is not bashful about when he's pushed, “I’ve been abstinent for the last two years and I haven’t had real sex for the last seven effing years,’’ I growled out. “I haven’t been able to come with a woman in seven years.’’ I'm going to enjoy this series, Dex, Otis, Beckett and Maxen are such humble men and I'm so excited for Maxen's book, he kept me hooked and I kept looking for him in every scene, not that I didn't love Dex, but Maxen is going to be my favorite in the series I know it.
This is the first book in a new series, about a Rock group named Kinky Shine. This is also a new to me author. I'm kind of picky about rocker romances, since there is a lot about that type of life style that I feel just don't fit in a romance novel. I'm usually pretty hesitant to pick up a rocker romance from an unknown author. That being said, I'm glad I took a chance on this author, because this book was pretty great! Although it does get into the whole "sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll" life style, it skirts around the edges enough to satisfy my tastes.
Dex is the front man for the band. He also has some pretty major trust issues. He has a huge attraction to Harley, right from the first meeting. But he acts like a jerk, probably because he isn't sure how else to react! Typical male, really! He's hot, and strong willed, but doesn't know what he wants, or how to react to what he is feeling.
Harley is a music blogger, hired to get the band to use social media. (I know, right?!? Kinda hits close to that "if it could happen, why not to me?" fantasy) She is also their managers daughter. Despite a less than great first meeting, Harley can't resist Dex. She is a sweet girl, giving, accepting of all of his faults.
Despite everything that is standing in their way, I was rooting for Dex and Harley from the beginning. This amazing book is unlike any Rocker Romance that I've read before. Not only is the story different, the entire feel for the book is different. Maybe less hard edged? I'm not sure, but I do know that I am eagerly anticipating the next story in the series! This author has me hooked!
After reading Maxen, I knew I had to read Dex and Harley’s story.
I recommend reading the stories in order because I already knew Maxen’s storyline before I even started the book.
Harley is a blogger who is hired to shadow the band Kinky Shine. Her dad also happens to be Kinky Shine’s manager. Dex is the lead singer of the band. The two get off on the wrong foot, and Harley realizes she has her work cut out for her if she wants to gain the band’s trust.
Harley is spunky and very up front about everything. She has a good heart and wants what is best for everyone. Even when she wasn’t with Dex, she was looking out for the band’s best interest.
Dex has had a traumatic past that has made it difficult to interact with people, especially women. He hates that he is drawn to Harley. He has trust and self-esteem issues, and he had rather live in his solitary bubble with just his band and manager.
I really enjoyed reading this because it gave more information about Otis and Beckett, the other two members of the band. These friends are very close and more like family than anything. Their support for each other and banter to bring each other out of different slumps is so remarkable. It makes you want to be a part of it all!
So this is my first Stephanie Witter story and I really enjoyed the storyline. It takes you into Kinky Shine's (love the name BTW) life and what it is like to be a rockstar. It is not all glam.
Dex is a complex and arrogant man, but I mean come on he is the main man of the group, he does come out looking better in the end.
Harley has been around rockstars all her life. Her father calls her up to help get Kinky Shine on the map so when Dex starts the working relationship off to a rocky start she has no idea why she finds him attractive.
As a friendship with all members and Harley come together a big secret might come out to ruin everything everyone has worked so hard for.
Kinky Shine consists of the following band mates – Dex, Maxen, Otis & Beckett... Maxen is next!
Five star review for Dex by Stephanie Witter!! Ok by far one of my new favorite books!! I fell hard for the mysterious Dex and can not to wait to dive in to Maxen!!! Fez and Harleys story was so phenomenal I couldn't put it down. If I could give it 10 stars it would get them all. If you love rocker romances this is the boom for you!! I guarantee you won't be disappointed!!!!
This is not your same old rock star romance, not at all, it isn't the man whore cliché, and our hero has some deep rooted issues. Yes he's broody and hot but he is also so much more.
Stephanie wrote a pretty complex character in Dex (H), he has many layers and Harley (h) seems to be able to peel them away slowly piece by piece.
Harley was a very likable character she was able to stand her ground but showed vulnerability too. She definitely didn't let people walk all over her, but it wasn't like she was portrayed as a bitch either, I loved that she was the perfect combination of a woman.
Harley has a blog that focuses on the music industry both upcoming indie artists as well as the more main stream ones. She has a meeting to interview Dex who is the front man for Kinky Shine, a famous rock band. Dex ruins the interview by asking Harley a highly inappropriate question, but little does he know who Harley is.
Harley is newly assigned to "babysit" the band and get them to interact more on social media but after her botched interview she is dreading working with Dex.
"I'm sorry for being human and trying to seek some kind of understanding with you. Believe me, Dex, it's not going to happen again."
Pushing her feelings aside Harley puts her head up and begins working with the grouchy brooding Dex, but as they work together she gets to know the real him and his secrets. Soon they can't fight the feelings that are happening to them and they give in to them.
"I don't ever want you to regret me, Harley."
I'm fanning myself because Dex and Harley were off the charts hot. I loved the chemistry between the two and I loved seeing Dex open up more. He had such a hard time with trust but once he trusted there was no holding him back. I also loved the bands secondary characters and can't wait to read about Maxen. I think he'll be a fun character to get to know.
That wasn’t at all what I expected! Or should I say that Dex wasn’t at all what I expected, this moody front man seems to live with the weight of expectation on his shoulders and neither he nor it are a bundle of laughs. Life really is a pain in the a** if you are in Dex’s periphery. Harley is a media guru, a super blogger that is hired to help Dex and the band interact with the public in a more direct and hands on way. But is twitter actually something this aloof rock god is willing to embrace…yeh what do you think! I loved the dynamic of the band and the fact that the guys are all aware of the fact that Dex isn’t “normal” front man fodder, and that they care enough not to push his boundaries. They protect his idiosyncrasies because without him they have a problem, they have no band. Harley is given the impossible task of trying to get past the grunting and bring the band into the digital age, to show the world of social media exactly who Kinky Shine are, but is it a truth that the guys, or namely Dex is willing to share? Now as first meetings go, it is safe to say that it wasn’t a good one, heck it wasn’t even remotely passable as being civil – Dex was is usual direct self and had it been me he may have been his usual deceased self! Arrogant sod! But then again as the story unfolds, the reason why he is the way he is comes to light and the truth, his truth is heartbreaking,I could have kicked myself for feeling that way about him. Their story wasn’t easy but it was complete, it took on a life of its own and was intensely private and sweet. So much better than many band based books that are around, this took the whole field and flipped them the bird, showing that sometimes good things come in grumpy but loveable packages!
I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
I am a sucker for rocker romances. I love them. They seem to bring stardom to a more manageable level in books. Dex by Stephanie Witter is no different. These Rock Stars are bigger than life, top of the charts, but they're missing something. This is where Harley comes into play. She and Dex don't start off on the right foot - but that footing grows into something they both weren't looking for.
So Dex is the front man for the band Kinky Shine. They've been performing together since college and have made it to the big time. All of that can come crashing down in an instant. Just one wrong move on the bands part and their whole world can implode.
Harley's main goal is to see that it doesn't happen. The one thing she refused to do was get caught up with a member of the band. Much less the front man. He's a major jerk after all.
There were many instances in this book I wish I could have slapped Dex upside his head! For real. He was on my last nerve there for a while. Men can be dense sometimes. Jeez. His hardheadedness knows no bounds apparently. I just couldn't stand it. Harley, however, was no wall flower. She took his crap but worked to not allow it to hurt her until it really did.
I think you'll like this story. Just be prepared to want to smack Dex a time or ten during the course of the story. LOL
This is my first time reading anything by this author and I absolutely loved this book. Once I started it was really hard for me to put down. I am the biggest fan of the whole rockstar romance genre but Dex was different than any other book I've read in this genre. It is filled with secrets, mystery, hunky rockstars, and, of course, sex, drugs, and rock n' roll.
Harley Floyd's father, the manager of the band Kinky Shine, asked her to come make the band more approachable seeing as how they avoid social media at any cost. Dex and Harley's first meeting ends with Harley wanting to strangle him but she can't but want to know more about the mysterious frontman of Kinky Shine. Dex has some trust issues from his younger years and one secret that nobody but his band knows about. I absolutely loved Dex, once he stopped being a complete jerk. He actually grew on me. Harley and Dex had explosive chemistry from their first meeting. Will Harley be able to get to the man behind the mystery? You'll have to one click and find out.
I definitely recommend Dex to anyone looking for a hot sexy rockstar romance. You'll get that and so much more. I can't wait to see what else the author has in store for us and I can't wait to read Maxen's, the drummer's story next!

Fresh .. witty .. and engaging. You will not be able to put down this book until the very end.
Stephanie Witter has a way with words that pulls the reader right in. Her characters are always well developed and story line enticing. Dex is no exception.
The first in a series, Dex is about the troubled front man Dex Bowers. Each subsequent book will feature each member of the Rock Band Kinky Shine and I can't wait.
Blogger Harley Floyd is on assignment and Dex won't know what hit him once she is through with him, together they will each learn so much, about each other, life and themselves. Their chemistry is undeniable and the progression of their story not rushed but natural.
You will feel like a member of the band while reading, enjoying the banter between the members, blushing at the sexy intimate moments between two lovers and hoping that these two people who are so different from one another yet so similar find their way to love, happiness and an HEA.
All it takes is that one person to come into your life bringing with them a whole new perspective and outlook .. making your dark days lighter, brighter and oh so much more better.
Dex: he's moody as hell very rarely speaking more than one word, but on stage he is everything a gorgeous rock star should!d be, but he has a secret past that effects his every day life until Harley came into his world. Harley: she's a self employed blogger who accepts a job from her father to help his band kinky shine become one with social media, she knows all about the band and its members she knows all about dex, or so she thought. Their first meeting couldn't of gone any worse, he insults her and she gives it right back. Leaving the room she views dex as a jerk but something has awoken in him that has been long dormant and it freaks him out. The more time they spend together the more the sparks fly and it becomes impossible for them not to give in to it . secrets are told bonds are made and heart's are exchanged.
I have loved Stephanie witter from the very beginning her books inspired me to look into studying English literature. With every book she writes I fall more and more in love and dex is certainly a loveable creature. I can't wait to find out all about maxem
Dex is a good read. When Dex is a rockstar. He's int he band Kinky Shine. Harley is a blogger and her dad managers Kinky Shine. She is brought on to help with reaching fans on social media. When Dex meets Harley, he's cocky and rude but the reading the scene was kind of funny. In the beginning Dex and hot then cold then hot again where Harley is involved. He's a little frustrating to understand at first but when his past comes out it all makes sense. We get the story in both POVs which is helpful in understanding Dex. Harley is great. She fits right in with the guys. Her chemistry with Dex is intense. She is an extremely caring person and understanding person. There are ups and downs in Dex and Harley's relationship some of them where a little frustrating.
I really enjoy this one and can't wait to read the next. There's no cliffhanger and the next one will be Maxen's story.
