The first thing I'm going to do here, is warn you that there are spoilers in this review. I don't typically give spoilers in my reviews, but this time it can't be helped. I'm also going to state up front, that I did not finish this book. I got to 78% in it, and got so disgusted by it, that I had to put it down. In an attempt to be constructive about this review, I'm going to do the majority of it in gifs. So, to get started.

Our main leading "man", and rockstar in the book is Jason "Jay" Felix. He is cocky, arrogant, and sometimes reminds me of a five year old thats lost his toy. He's so used to people, and females in particular, pandering to him, that he's got a complex about it.

"It's not my fault women find me irresistible," he said smugly. "I'm a fucking rock star." - Jay, Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton

"Rock Star? Man whore, more like." - Audra's inner monologue, Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton

He's flying out to Romance Island, one of the few things I actually liked about this book, was this island. The chapter headers in the book are of an island, shaped like a heart. I thought that was pretty neat. Anyway, I digress, Jay gets there, he's considering buying it and is staying for awhile. He's also got these delusions in his head about some chick meeting him there and running into his arms, but hey, in the meantime, he's going to go shag anything he can shake a stick at. Literally.

There is basically no one -to- shake a stick at, save for his maid. His sister tells him she doesn't speak English. That doesn't stop him!

"You understood every word, I bet," he said. "And I know you recognized me. If you know who I am, we both already know the answer to my question. So answer me. Would you fuck me?" - Jay, Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton

its-a-girl-thing-38-photos-24

So lets take that further, I said cocky, right? Well, Audra, our leading lady, or our hard working maid in this case, won't and can't go near Jay. She'll lose her job, a job that is far more important to her than sleeping with Jay. This is where I started to see sparks fly and thought, okay maybe it'll get better. I continue reading.

"What more could a woman want than a fucking rock star, Audrey" he whispered. - Jay, Maid for the Rock Star by Dmeleza Carlton

"And it's Audra, not Audrey." She peeled her badge off her breast and held it up to his eyes. "Less distraction so you can see it better." - Audra, Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton

The people I have friended on Goodreads saw this go up at about 11%. I almost stopped reading the book right at this point.

giphy

You may wonder what caused this reaction, well then, let me clue you in.

"Mr. Felix." "Babe, once you've sucked my cock, you can call me Jay."

Uh, well, thanks. I think?

755882 get+%282%29

How I even made it to 78% in the book, I don't even know, because you get more things like this.

"Babe, I'm a fucking rock star. I don't need to pay for sex. I have chicks lining up to suck my dick. Fuck they'd pay me for it." - Jay, Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton

God, someone just hand me a trash can. There is cocky and then there is I have a complex and need to remind myself that I'm awesome very five seconds.

Nicole-Richie-Thats-Not-Cute-Reaction-Gif

"You expect me to deal with this hard-on by myself?" His voice shifted up an octave. Audra thought she heard a note of desperation. Good.

"You have two hands, Mr. Felix. I understand that's all a lonely man needs."

Now, don't get me wrong, I actually liked Audra, up to a point. She wasn't about to give in to him, and she made it clear more than once. Sure, she was tempted, but Jay clearly isn't as irresistible as he seems to think he is.

Then because Audra won't give into him, Jay takes himself off to the mainland, for booze and chicks. He decides mid trip, that the only woman he wants is Audra. So gets his drunk self in a car, and goes to drive back to the island. Only he gets in a car accident on the way and ends up in the hospital. What happens? Oh, Audra's boss basically makes her clear her schedule to take care of him, because no one else will do. He won't have anyone else.

The only girl he wanted in his bed tonight was Audra. Shit, He even remembered her name. It had to be love.

Oddly enough, at this point, Jay started to get less annoying, and so I was like.. huh, maybe he's getting better.. I was wrong. I was so very very wrong.

tumblr_mk197qxbtb1s5pckjo1_500

Audra takes care of him, they seem to be getting on better footing. However, she's got an application due, hasn't really slept and needs some time off. So she sends over another maid. At this point, I was like.. "Oh God, seriously? You didn't expect that to happen?". Wi-Fi isn't working at the staff quarters, Audra can't email her application... so IT tells her to go sit on one of the villa's balconies and it'll work.

So off she goes, and stumbles upon Jay, in the lagoon, with the other maid on her knees. Literally, his first words were, "It's not what it looks like." Uh, dude, she just walked up on you with trashy maid treating your dick like lollipop and you going on about it, vocally so that everyone around can hear how in another five minutes, she might actually break the record. How in the heck is that not what it looks like? Audra goes walking off, passes some guests, who walk upon the compromised couple seconds later only to find out, did that stop them? Nope, Audra overhears the guests exclaiming over how their now having sex in the lagoon.

tumblr_inline_ne9sl8M7Hx1rc3ckt

Somehow, I didn't stop reading there. I kept going, oddly enough, I wanted to hear what he had to say for himself. I shouldn't have, I really shouldn't have. He tells her that he thought she sent the other maid to him as a present. And that when she walked off, he thought she meant for them to continue, so he didn't want it to seem like he didn't appreciate her efforts.

seriously-dont-vp

I wish I could actually tell you that that, was the worst of it.

jenna-marbles-i-cant-even c2iuy

Why can't I even!? Well then, after that goes down. Trashy maid gets found out and is fired. She goes after Audra, knocks her unconscious in this knock down, drag out in the middle of the gym, and they all somehow miss the unconscious body. Then you have a very pissed off, drunk Jay, blowing up her ID band paging her, so that she can come drink booze with him. Audra walks into a completely trashed and demolished suite. All because she's not paying attention to him. Let me again refer you to the gif asking his age...

"You wrote Shakespeare on the ceiling with ketchup because you missed me? Haven't you heard of giving a girl chocolates? Oh wait - yes, you have. When you ran out of ketchup, you finished the quote in chocolate on the carpet. What kind of crazy man does that?" - Audra, Maid for the Rock Star by Demelza Carlton

Guess who gets to clean that mess up or be fired? Audra, obviously. She's just been knocked out by a crazy, she's in pain, I don't doubt she has a concussion and is now dealing with a drunken idiot.

Olive-thumbs-up-damn-nope

I should have stopped there, but oh hell.. I didn't. I thought I could see it through, I was close to done, right? I think my first mistake was having so much faith in Audra. Jay may be a lost cause, but Audra, surely there was something redeeming there. Well.. that got blown to hell.

Jay informs her that he's bought the resort, so he's basically now her boss. She can't be fired for sleeping with him. Oh, that makes EVERYTHING better and she just drops her panties. More or less, literally. Let me also throw out there, this is less than twenty-four hours from the time she saw and heard him with trashy maid in the lagoon.

tumblr_mzessuYQ0I1rud800o1_500

78%... I'd like to tell you that there were more things in this book that I liked. I mean, I did like Audra. I liked the relationship with her sister and the backbone I saw at first. However, the backbone got mowed down fast. I thought for sure she'd tell him to step off and she'd end up with someone else. I mean, pride, anyone? Anywhere? Pride in yourself? Your own self worth? Common... nope.. *inserts crickets chirping*.

Anyway, I know some people enjoyed the book, but it's definitely not for me.

A mediocre book with an interesting premise and a beautiful setting, but poorly executed, ultimately leaving the reader to fend off alone, plotholes, unresolved issues, questions and an open ending.

I will be frank, i liked the open ending because i hated Jay and i wanted Audra away from him since the middle of the book, but it was still nonetheless a surprise.

Maid for the Rock star is a difficult book to like or even connect with, mostly because of the main hero's awful personality that holds no charm at all and it's absolutely revolting at points. Jay is an arrogant, childish, self-centered and egoistical asshole, plain and simple.

Audra has her problems, but she is an endearing and likeable character, with her ambitions and sweet demeanor, you might end up rooting for her success story. But Jay is another story altogether. I couldn't get past his behavior and the dozens mistakes he made.

All in all, in my opinion this story didn't work, it had too many issues and nothing redeemable about the main hero. Some secondary characters though were great. That's all i guess.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- Audra, insists on enjoying everything too much. Sometimes a mango, is only a mango, stop making such a fuss about it.
- The writing was somewhat disjointed.
- Audra is a bit gullible .
- All the Penny drama! UGH! Another big reason to dislike Jay.
- Serge was wonderful.
- Her family was a bunch of losers. I'm glad she found the strength to move on with her life.
- Why wasn't she furious with him?
- He forgot his "big love" quite easily.

Unfortunately, DNF @ 54%.

I just had to stop. I couldn't even do it to myself.

The rock star in the story, Jay, is a complete douchenozzle. He's crude and just annoying. The only sense of communication he has is referring to his penis, where to stick it, how big it is, his perfect body and where is his next lay is coming from. Mind you, he is saying all of this to Audra, the maid.

Meanwhile, Audra just keeps letting his words get her hot and bothered because this was THE Jason "Jay" Felix, her rock star crush.

No. Thank. You.

There was no chemistry. Not even a sense of where the road was leading and no end in sight.

Sorry, so sorry, but I have to just move on from this one.

I really liked the idea behind this book, but unfortunately ended up disliking just about everything else about it. Jay is a complete jerk throughout the entire book and decides that he "loves" Audra because he can remember her name. Meanwhile at the beginning he mentions being in love with a member from his band and waiting for her in hopes that she will feel the same way...and then we never hear about it again. And to prove to Audra how much he cares he has sex with Audra's worst enemy. Which she gets over in about 2 seconds? I don't think so! Audra also gets a job in Antarctica at the end of the book and they never discuss anything about it....It just ends with them having had sex. Sooo basically this whole book was about a long awaited one night stand before she leaves and he goes on his last tour and stays at the island?? Hardly a romance. Really disappointed..

DNF@74%

Audra is a college graduate hoping to become a meteorologist but working as a maid on an island resort to make ends meet. Jay is a cocky, arrogant, manwhore rock star lamenting the demise of his band as they prepare for their farewell tour and contemplating his future profession.

Jay rolls off with some real flamboyant jerk lines. Right off the bat you know he’s a spoiled bad boy that needs redeemed. Initially Audra seemed likeable, holding on to her integrity and not giving in to Jay’s blatant sexual banter. The story had a ton of potential, and I even brushed past the 3rd person narration that I always find a struggle since it doesn’t allow the reader to get inside the main character’s heads to truly understand where they are coming from. It really could have been a solid 4 star read but the plot & "content" took a major turn for the worse.

***Spoilers Ahead***
It looked like Jay was on the road to leaving behind his manwhore ways, and I felt like the story would probably be a “safe” read. Nope, instead it spirals downhill shortly after that, just when the potential for romance between Jay and Audra was so perfectly set up. I expected them to really connect and a relationship to grow while Audra cared for him and instead Audra turned into a bratty, self-involved heroine who seriously over-reacted, leading to ridiculous drama and Jay to embrace his manwhore ways.

This is where I prepared to bail on this story and it honestly deserves 1 star for this part:

All in all if you are looking for a rock star read, there are far better ones out there with plenty of romance and no sexual interactions with people other than the H&h. Using this one as a basis for the Romance Island resort series, I won’t be reading any future titles if the content and style is similar to this one.

This book I can't stand anymore. I couldn't salt and the way Jay was in 80% of the book, his ego was so huge, and all he thinks about is sex. That's it. And if I heard him say "I'm a rockstar" one more time, I am going to dive into the book and slap him silly. Because it just got annoying.

I've read many rockstar romances, and none were as annoying as this one was.

Summary:

A maid at the exclusive Romance Island Resort, Audra knows how to handle rock stars, billionaires and celebrities. She keeps their secrets, cleans up their mess and makes sure their holiday is a memorable one. There's just one rule: no relationships with guests. And Audra never breaks the rules.

Jay Felix is rock royalty and he knows it. When one of his bandmates threatens to break up the band, he goes into hiding at the Romance Island Resort. Looking for a distraction, he sets his sights on the unattainable Audra. But what's a rock star to do when the girl he wants is the one woman he can't have?

Welcome to paradise, where the romance is as hot as the weather and the tides aren't all that's surging beneath the surface.

Basically this was a maid to rockstar romance, and how a month in the same island can change each other's lives. They both had problems, which was that Jay had one last band your before he retires, and Audra's family keeps on messing up her life because of her car insurance and she has to keep on acting like the mother of the house and out them over herself. But that wouldn't fly with me. If my bigger siblings were using MY car, mess it up, and instead of fixing it, buying drugs for their girlfriends, I would go to my hometown and slap them silly, because that is unacceptable behavior. They should know better. -.-

Then there is the fact that Audra has been liking Serge, and all of a sudden he turns out gay. So she ends up with Jay, who has no chemistry with her what so ever until they have the best sex of their lives in the last 10% of the book.

At the end of the day this book was torture and had too much drama. So I have no idea if I would be reading the next book in the series, considering the fact that I'm getting a migrane just thinking about it -.-

This book was okay, but I did have some issues. I like the plot and the chemistry between these two. It was great seeing some bad boy rocker have to work for a woman that can't show interest in him because she is the maid for the island hotel where he is staying at and will lose her job. So it was fun seeing their bantering. However there are some scenes of cheating and didn't like the ending at all, not sure these two end up together in the series so not very happy with the no HEA or even HFN.

***CONTAINS SPOILERS***

Audra is aiming for the full time maid position at Romance Island Resort so that she can make a living while waiting to get a job as a meteorologist. This means that she must follow the code of conduct properly so she doesn't risk the chance at the full time position. However, rock star Jay Felix has other ideas. He keeps coming on to Audra and trying to get her to sleep with him, and at the same time one of Audra's coworkers is harassing Audra because she thinks Audra slept with another employee. Audra is dealing with a lot, but she will have to overcome it all if she hopes to keep her job.

This book just kept going further and further downhill for me. At first, I didn't think it was all that bad. Audra was a good character, one of the only characters I liked in the entire book. I found Jay insufferable. He was arrogant, crude, annoying, and a ton of other adjectives that you don't want in the male hero of your book. I didn't even understand why there was still even a part of Audra that was attracted to this man, because his attitude made me sick. He was so full of himself, and kept talking about how Audra should be honoured to be able to sleep with a rock God, or something like that. For the first chunk of the book, he didn't even remember Audra's name. And yet he still expects her to come at his beck and call. Funnily enough, when she doesn't ONE TIME because she's injured for something Jay had a hand in, he throws a complete temper tantrum and trashes his resort room. He was actually terrible. Even worse is that this book seemed to mean nothing. There was no attraction other than sexual attraction, it seemed. At times I thought that maybe they'd get together, but no. They got together one time, and then they moved on. I was astonished to see that book two had Jay again as the male hero. You'd think that since an entire book was spent on Audra and Jay's "relationship" that it would've meant something more than a one night stand. I didn't like that at all.

Overall, there were some limited good things about this novel (Audra) but they were all overshadowed by Jay, who was a terrible character and human being. There are some parts thrown in there that I feel were supposed to make Jay seem more sensitive and understandable, but right after he just went back to being an asshole, so it was pretty useless. I know I haven't said much else besides how much I hate Jay, but he really is the source of my contempt with this book. It's hard to enjoy a book when the male lead is so horrible to the female lead - and still gets the girl! Definitely would not recommend to anyone.

Maid for the Rock Star is the first book in the Romance Island Resort series. The story takes place in an island resort for celebrities. Audra works as a maid, and she also lives in the resort in an area reserved for employees. Jay Felix is the singer of Chaya, a famous rock group that is about to disband.

Jay is facing a crisis because he’s not too sure what retirement will bring, and he has issues with the group’s songwriter. He decides to take a vacation at the resort in an attempt to clear his head and relax.

From the beginning, he’s portrayed as a self-centered womanizer with a superiority complex. Audra is understandably turned off by Jay’s continuous crass comments, but she’s also physically attracted to this gorgeous man. His comments and his attitude were often grating. He constantly talks about sex, his looks, or what it means to be a rock star and have millions of fangirls.

Audra is smart and hard-working, which strongly contrasted with Jay’s personality. Jay’s best quality was the fact that he was an attractive rock star, and it seemed like he wanted Audra simply because she kept rejecting him. And at the end I felt like Audra gives in to him because he is annoyingly persistent. Or because she’s horny. I didn’t sense any sort of romantic chemistry between them and I didn’t like the way their relationship progressed.

Some physical descriptions would’ve added to the story, I don’t know what the characters looked like. I liked the plot, the setting descriptions, the secondary characters, and the actual storytelling. And I really liked the heroine. I wanted to love this book but the hero was not redeemed in my eyes. I disliked him for at least 80% of the book so his “worthy” actions came too late for me. The ending was too abrupt and I’m left with too many unanswered questions regarding their futures.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley from Lost Plot Press for an honest review. Unfortunately, this book did not hit my reading sweet spot. By the end I was left with a lot of questions and feeling very confused. Based on the author's notes at the end, this is a standalone in a new series and the next book will be about other characters. This ended kind of abruptly after a lot of build up between the characters. If I understand correctly, this book also loosely ties to her Nightmares series. There was a story Jay told Audra from years before that seemed to have an effect on him. It was an emotional story while he told it (and told it vaguely), but it never seemed to be an issue for him again. I think that story is related to this series? Although it's said this can be read as a standalone, I get the feeling you can better understand Jason by reading previous books where his character makes appearances. He starts off this story very in your face and it was hard to bounce back from that. He failed to ever redeem himself for me.

UPDATE: I found this and now feel like reading the previous stories with Jason's character is the best chance to like/redeem him. That's not really made clear in the synopsis or at the beginning of this book and would have helped me to feel less confused. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

When comparing all of the characters together, I think I liked Audra the most - at least for the majority of the time. Jason/Jay's character was all over the place for me. He seemed bipolar. One moment he's confident and abrasive and the next he's manic and childlike trying to figure out he can't get ahold of his sister because her phone is turned off while she's flying? He's inconsistent and crass. All of that would be eventually fine, but I never saw any change or growth in his character that redeemed him. He's a rock star and every woman wants to sleep with him. That message never really changed all the way to the end. Due to his lack of maturity, I never felt any real chemistry or connection between him and Audra.

My biggest issue is around the 70% mark with him and Penny. I genuinely need someone (author, a beta reader, anyone) to explain why something happened.

Although the ending feels open ended and unclear as to what happens with the couple after their night together (an epilogue might have wrapped it up with him going back on tour and her going to Alaska?), I did like one point made towards the end. Everyone wants Jay Felix, the rock star; not the man who only plays the part. Audra wanted the man.

Maid For The Rock Star is the first book in Demelza Carlton's Romance Island Resort Series. It is filled with laugh out loud moments and kept me entertained throughout the entire read. This book is written so it tells a complete story, but also leaves room for many more to come.

In this story you meet Audra who is a hard working maid at a remote luxury resort. She is a rule follower and will do everything in her power to reach her goal of being a meteorologist. To help get her a permanent job at the resort, she takes on more responsibility whenever asked, even if it means she has to put up with the crazy whims of the VIP guests. She is convinced she can handle anything that comes her way, but nothing could have prepared her for rock star Jay Felix.

Jay Felix is taking a break from his reality because one of his band mates is threatening to break up the band. To distract himself, he sets his sights on the one thing he can't have, Audra. She wants nothing from him but to do her job and get a permanent position at the resort. But when Jay finds himself in an emergency situation, she has no choice but to help him.

Without giving too much away, I love that Audra encourages Jay to read as he finds himself in this book. If you are an avid reader like myself you will be able to make many references to other great stories and find their connection quite humorous! Those were some of my most favorable laugh out loud moments.

This is the first book I have read by Demelza Carlton, but it certainly won't be my last. My interest was captivated from the start and I can't wait to read more from this series!

Really good book.

This was a really good book to read. It was interesting, and I liked the characters, although I was getting a bit nauseous, of Jason and all his but I'm a rock star crap. He is more than a little full of him self. Audra was really good with him, he just doesn't know what is good for him, and bangs anything that moves. I really want the two of them together, cuz through his arrogance I glimpse a hurt man who hides behind his status, his title, and could use a good woman like Audra in his life.

I want to read the next book, but am scared to. I have read some of the reviews, and if some of them are true, I think I am going to be disappointed. Plus at the end of this book in the sneak peek at book two there are all these new people, so I think the reviews might be true.

I am however reviewing this book, and I would recommend it, it's definitely not one to pass by. It's also not one for youngsters, I would recommend 18 at least. Swearing, and sex.

"2.5 out of 5 stars. A rock star decides to stay at a remote island Resort in Australia while coming to terms with being on a "farewell tour" at only the age of 25 years old. While there, he becomes enamored with his maid and tries to peruse her by any means necessary.

I tried to like this novel but I found Jason (Jay/the rock star) and Audra both hard to enjoy as main characters."

This ended up on my DNF shelf due to the Authors own fault.

She sent out an email this morning telling her readers/reviewers a story about the SCREAMING DEMON customer who got a FREE cheeseburger and complained about something else that was wrong with it.

Then, she told us we HAD TO READ HER BOOK AND REVIEW IT BEFORE MONDAY, so that other readers and reviewers could have NICE THINGS! The insinuation being, it must be GOOD REVIEWS to counter act all the negative reviews!

Congratulations, she got my review, before Monday, but it's not the one she was hoping for!

DNF.
No one would find that douche bag attractive. End of. Author tried to make him a d*ck that people would end up liking but didn’t hit the mark.

This was my first time reading this author. It wasn't a bad story, but I began to really hate one of the characters, so it really pulled my enjoyment of the book as a whole down.

Jay was a self-centered, man-whore, a-hole of a man, and I really couldn't see Audra staying with him long term. Penny was the character I grew to hate over the course of the book, even with Jay being the jerk that he was! She was such a lazy woman, and getting paid for it! I loved Audra's ambition and dedication to her professionalism!

The book was a bit of a serial, which was a mark against it, because I hate serial books! I'm not sure I would continue with the series, but I liked the writing well enough to give the author another try.

The story would have been better if the main character was anyone but jay. His personality is cringe-worthy. More than half of his dialogue consist of "I am a rock star". Like, I got it the first time, can you say something else now?. And he did say something else. His other favorite line was "ladies find me irresistible". I can't understand how was he with other women when the one he loved was going through a difficult phase. Instead, he goes to a resort with the plan of fucking every woman till the girl he loved comes to find him. That plan made me hate him from the start. And just by seeing Audra's breasts, the love flew out of the window. It was just tits this and tits that. I liked Audra. I read the whole book just for her. But she had to ruin it too by sleeping with him.
I've read another book of Demelza's and it was good. But this book wasn't for me.

I absolutely love a good rock star/band story!!!!!

Audra takes a summer job on a resort island while she prepares for to apply for a new job. When one of the senior cleaning staff injures herself, Audra is handed the job of a lifetime - catering to the VIP guests at the resort. Essentially she is on call 24/7 for whatever the VIP guests might need. Despite the long hours and hard work, Audra accepts the position because it will likely provide her with the recognition that will earn her a full time position during the off season.

Thankfully the VIP villas are not booked, in fact Audra only has one client - the guitarist of one of her favorite bands! Jason, is a typical rock star and immediately propositions Audra for sex. The resort has very strict rules that prohibit a sexual relationship between guests and employees so Audra immediately turns Jason down. Jason does not take this refusal lightly; his mind is made up that he is going to get her into his bed and soon.

Somewhere along the road of seduction, Jason begins to have feelings for Audra - and a strong desire to be with her beyond one night, something that he is not accustomed to. As Audra and Jason spend more time together, they begin learning more about each other and Audra realizes that there are really two Jasons. There is the rock star that the world sees and there is another part of Jason that only a few people get a glimpse of.

A car accident forces Audra and Jason to spend even more time together, in ways that neither of them expect. Despite the resort's strict rules, Audra can't help thinking about Jason beyond just providing care to him.

This is one of the rare rock star/band books I've read where the woman finally remembers she has a job. All too often authors have the female character falling hopelessly for the band member and there is little mention of their job or lives outside of the band. In this book, Audra constantly battles the rules of the resort with her own desires and Jason's up front antics aimed at seducing her. She also fights with her future goals...once that will likely take her far away from the resort and away from Jason.

My only complaint with this book is that it ended too soon. I wanted to know what happened with Audra and Jason, which I'm hoping we learn more about in the upcoming books. I'm dying to know if they get their happily ever after and how they manage it with their very different careers.

Carlton has done it again, mastering that seductive element of sexual tension between two characters who you're gunning for to both get their way with one another.

Good girl Audra is just a simple young woman who grew up on the poorer side of town, and has escaped the family world to make a name for herself. With her sights set on becoming a meteorologist, she's earning a living temporarily as a maid at a beautiful island resort at the tip of Western Australia, where nothing out of the ordinary really happens.

Until rock star Jay comes along.

I won't give away too much here, but Jay is one of those characters you love to hate. He's pig-headed, self-loving, and thinks every girl on the planet wants him in bed.

Except Audra.

Well, secretly, she wants him, but as the maid of the presidential villas at the resort, she's not allowed to get personal with guests or she could lose her job. It doesn't stop Jay from pursuing her though, and what starts out as his normal flirting to get a girl into the sack, ends as a personal battle to get the girl he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

Carlton mesmerises you with her writing - it's not overly complicated to read, but not simplistic either. She's extremely experienced in pacing of the storyline and drawing characters into you. She's also talented when it comes to creating sexual tension; readers will be holding onto the story for dear life trying to find out what happens at the end - if Audra and Jay end up together or not, because it could seriously go either way. Each chapter, I found myself wondering, will it happen? Will it happen?

My demographic for books has never been romance, but when it comes to Carlton's work, I'm at the forefront of grabbing her publications because they're enticing and the stories are incredibly lifelike.

Maid for the Rock Star is one of Carlton's best works, and is made for those who are hopeless romantics, dreamers, realists and thinkers.

This is sold as romance but it wasn't. There was an abrupt ending with the characters ending up apart. The 2 - 6th book in the series seem to have our "hero" Jay romancing other women. A different woman in each book. From the blurb and reviews the series seems to get more outlandish as it goes on. Only in the 7th book does he reunite with Audra. If you like that kind of thing this is the series for you.

There may be spoilers below.

Jay - our hero - seems to be a very mixed up "Rock Star" , who seems to be obsessed with sex. The heroine Audra is a maid who will get fired if she sleeps with one of the guests. This book had all the elements to be a very good story. Sadly the execution was lacking, if this was meant to be a romance. Jay is an arse and that's putting it politely. He's crude, sex obsessed, thinks a lot of himself and spoilt. The author hints that there is more to this persona but sadly she didn't do enough to make him likeable for me.

Audra seems to be a bit of a doormat until she finally starts to grow a bit of spine but it's not really much of one. Out of the two I liked her more than Jay but he had the potential to be the more interesting.

The supporting cast are pretty one dimensional, even Jay and Audra aren't as well rounded as they should be. More than half way through the book he decides to cheat on the heroine who he has been chasing for all of the book. If Jay had grown as a character he would have refused but he didn't, so, yeah.

I think I'll quit whilst I'm behind. I'm not reading any more books in this series. It's not romance, not quite how to classify it. I would say erotica but there's not enough sex.

'Maid for the Rock Star' is a beautifully written modern romance that I found difficult to put down =->

This is the first time I have read Carlton's work and found the book easy reading. The writing flows very well and is well edited. The author focuses on two characters: one of whom you'd love to hate with his devilish and cavalier attitude, and the other you'd hate not to love with her sweet lovable character that swings between a fiery independence and sensitive vulnerability. Yet together, despite a couple of hiccups, they make the perfect pairing.

The book oozes with classy sexual tension that will have you hanging on the edge of your seat...waiting for the moment.

If you're looking for a romantic book with a little 'excitement' added in, this would be it!

Sweet Jesus Jay is one of a kind, "I ordered you breakfast!" He seemed really proud of himself and not put out at all that she'd passed out on his couch." Jay can come off as a bit desperate at times, "but I got you breakfast! Look, look!" He uncovered the tray and held out a sandwich on a plate. "It's for you!" Audra smiled politely and continued backing away. "You can't say no to a bacon sandwich! Breakfast of rock stars!" Jay started to look desperate." He says the sweetest things, "eff, we were made for each other, Audra," Jay breathed. "Any time you want an encore, this rock star is all yours." I liked this book and the antics Jay went through to get his woman.

My Review: ✭✭✭
Audra’s the hard working maid at the resort who’s trying to stay out of trouble so she can get the internship she’s applying for with the weather service. She’s got her degree, now she wants to put it to use. She’s well-written and has good depth to her. She’s an educated young woman with a degree working a job to get through until she can make that connection to a career.

Along comes the rock star. He’s arrogant and demanding and he wants her. She spends all her time answering his service calls and fending off his advances. Jay Felix is shallow and crude, that’s how he’s written. A bit too crude for my taste. His one thought is sex.

He’s also extremely good looking and in great shape. He can’t seem to keep his clothes on, either. And she’s having a hard time keeping her eyes and hands off him. The action is good and quite often amusing.

When he’s injured, she nurses him and pampers him. And resists him, right up until the end. Is she off for Antarctica to forecast the weather? That would be telling.

Get your own copy of Maid for the Rock Star and read all about the frolics taking place at Romance Island Resort when rock royalty drops in.

My biggest problem with this book was how much of an asshole the male lead was. You're supposed to think it's all an act come the end but you literally get his POV near the start and he's a giant asshole. I was entertained but not enough to keep reading the series. Also the complete lack of communication and one dimensional characters that were focused ONLY on sex (Penny and Jay mostly). Just not for me.

The location was fun though.

Awful

It takes a lot for me to give a bad review but I have to at this point . There was no depth to the Jay. It is like a high school student wrote this book. I would give no stars but I feel bad doing that.
