A Question of Obsession

Rate this book
In this first book of “Of Grace and Sin” series, Misha finds his one true love — and fights to save both of their lives.

Misha Sokolov (ex-soldier, successful banker, divorced, and lonely) meets Sayuri Saito, elegant, intelligent, driven, and recently separated from her husband. Infatuated, he invites her for a vacation in Hong Kong, where he woos her amidst the sights and smells of that island.

Meanwhile, Misha uncovers a criminal scheme to defraud his bank. As he gets closer to the truth, his life is threatened, and soon Sayuri’s life as well. But is the enemy that Misha chases real?

The book has some steamy situations and is intended for adults.

Genre: Erotic Suspense.

My name’s Austin Briggs. I’ve spent over 10 years researching the history of the Aztec Empire and the Spanish Conquest with a dream of creating a historical fiction series that would fascinate readers who like a good history-based tale. I even went so far as to experience some of the magical rites of the ancient Mexica myself.

I’ve always been obsessed with learning about other cultures; in addition to my time in the lands that were once occupied by the Aztec peoples, I’ve also lived in Russia, Japan, England, Switzerland, Cambodia, Lithuania, and Uzbekistan.

I’ve been a soldier in the Russian army, an officer in the United Nations, and a global manager of a Fortune 10 company. I’ve been both a local and an outsider, a member of the majority and of a minority, which I feel makes me somewhat able to write from the perspective of multiple characters, all of whom have various levels of status and acceptance in their world.

We’re often told that history is written by the winners. My stories are told from the perspective of those who lost — though they went down fighting.

My fascination with the Aztec Empire during the time of the Spanish Conquest began because I’m intrigued by the idea of a society that is about to lose itself entirely. I wanted to show how difficult and painful — and sometimes strangely inspiring — that process can be.

This book was written by my friend's husband. I thought the book was good subtracting any of my bias.

It was very interesting that the story was set at Osaka and I thought the author described it very well. He also described Hong Kong and Hokkaido in detail, which made me want to go there again!
It did not became suspenseful until later in the book, but it was interesting to see how Misha fell in love with Sayuri.

Only problem was that Misha was converted to the author himself and Sayuri was converted to my friend in my head and I had to brush at the erotic scene.

When I turned the page to Chapter 12, I thought I had skipped a couple of chapters and had to go back to see if anything was missing. I read through a couple of more pages and found out the reason why. I was glad that I did not skip any chapter. lol

I need to read the 2nd book in the series and his kids book written under the name of Max Candee.

I was given this book by Rebecca Hamilton in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This book /author reminds me of Dan Brown in the way he wants to show you all the research he's put into the writing even though at times it's irrelevant . That said I had a wonderful geographical tour of Osaka and Hong Kong . The story develops into a thriller come love story as our Hero Misha pursues the love of his life Surayi. It is quite an exciting tale and thoroughly enjoyable and even though it's a full story in itself there's a hint of a cliff hanger for book 2 in this series. I would happily recommend this book to anyone it is quite a good tale.
