Gwen, Tom and Karen are ordinary people who in a flash they are taken from their lives. They are thrust into a reality that Humans are not alone in the universe. J. Riley Castine was born Houston, Texas to Irish-Italian parents in 1973. He grew up all over the east coast of the United States. As a child, he was prone to "tinkering" with various mechanical devices. At an early age had interests in music, computers, Legos, Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and of course, Doctor Who.
He likes to spend his non working hours spending time with his family, hiking and finding interesting things to photograph.
Fragmented is an interesting concept that shows the readers a different view on alien abduction. For instance, the abducted are taught how to use their brain and I don't mean in how to think but rather for things humans usually cannot do such as telepathy.
I had a bit of problems in the beginning with the teaching but once that was over with, I really enjoyed the book. The characters, especially the humans, Gwen and Tom, were likeable but I also loved Jonah, Delphi and, believe it or not, Tudor. I could relate to him and understand his anger, which is rare usually when it comes to villain.
I love alien stories. While I don't mind invasions, to read something different was a welcome change.
I love books that take something you already know and give it a new twist. I have never really gotten into stories that use telepathy or telekinesis as I just didn't like them. Such stories seem to use "mind over matter" as an easy cop out.
This story didn't create that feel. It was something new, different and I really liked the storyline. The dialog moved well between the characters. I really liked the joke about Tinkerbell, I won't spoil it for you.
Is this going to be a series because this could be a good start.
