The Thrown Away post-apocalyptic saga continues...
In a turn of events that he never expected, Jack is on the run and deep into the junklands. Thrust into a place that is alien to him, he follows the trail of the junkers and is forced to live day by day once more and hide at night. Answers. That is what drives him. And the continued search for Ryan.
GLYNN JAMES is an author of science fiction, post-apocalyptic, dark fantasy, horror, and dystopian fiction. His love of science fiction began when he was eight years old after discovering HP Lovecraft and Richard Matheson, and then later on Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, James Herbert, Clive Barker, and Stephen King.
In addition to being author of the “ALTERLIGHT” supernatural mystery thriller series, he is author of the dark sci-fi series "DIARY OF THE DISPLACED", the post-apocalyptic "THROWN AWAY" series, and co-author of the "ARISEN" series and the “DUSTFALL” series.
I read these books in the boxed set, but am reviewing each separately to get proper credit for my annual Goodreads challenge. In the end this series turned out to be a pretty amazing work of dystopian fiction. In the beginning I wasn't sure I would stick with it because the author was jumping around so much in the timeline. I like my books to read "in a straight line." That is, from beginning to end with no flashbacks. The first part of this story jumps frequently, e.g., present to past to distant past then back to present - then repeat. It is my personal preference that authors do not write that way as I personally find it frustrating. Nevertheless, the flashbacks eventually stopped and the story developed into a captivating tale. I really enjoyed the overall story and now I'm looking forward to the next work by Mr. James.
These are very short books so I have been withholding judgment, not reviewing them, but the time has come to write a review. Good books! I'm glad I'm reading them and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. It'll be interesting to see what happens next. Unusual story.
The pervious books have been great and this is even better if a bit short. A different outlook on a destroyed Earth and how people are dealing with the centuries old leftovers. Good read!
Completely hooked and for some reason (perhaps as there are only four out at the moment) I thought 4 would be wrapping things up.
Nope.
I now see Glynn's nefarious plan. Give us a taste and we'll keep on coming back for more.
Well no I say!
I'm not interested in this fascinating dystopian world with the complex characters, evolving storyline and mystery!
I don't care if that person survives, the other one rebels and the unraveling and sinister plot is broken open to the world and the instigators brought down!
And no, I really don't need to know what has happened to the world and why there are such differences, such groups and such dangers.
Can't get too excited about this, it is an easy read but more of a post apocalyptic soap opera. It's Jack finds Ryan, Jack loses Ryan, Jack searches for Ryan, Jack finds him once more. Oh, and everyone is grubby and all salvagey and stuff. Why am I still reading it you might ask, vol. 4? I really like some other stuff by James, so I bought the set. Oh well, each one takes just an hour or so to read, not bad, and he is a good writer. The plot's not doing much for me on this one. See what you think.
In this latest instalment, the whole story becomes unexpectedly more complex. I don't want to give spoilers, but this will change your view of the entire world setting.....
