The Prince's Plaything: A Spicy Why Choose Romance

Rate this book
Princess Eden never expected to fall in love at her sister’s birthday ball. So when she’s invited to Prince Lux’s manor to be courted officially, she can’t possibly say no. Anything to get away from the relentless teasing of her eleven sisters.

But her arrival at his sunflower-filled manor is soon spoiled by Lux’s cruel stepbrother. Especially when he decides that Eden will become his personal plaything.

And yet, she doesn’t hate it when Prince Castor touches her in secret, or when Prince Lux showers her with gifts. Even when a faerie deal leaves her more trapped between the two princes than she ever could’ve imagined.

But a princess can’t have two princes, can she?

Even if those princes could learn to share their little blonde sweetheart… Yes, they could share her very nicely, indeed.

The Prince's Plaything is a spicy why choose romance featuring a seamstress FMC and two 'charming' princes that will do whatever it takes to keep her as theirs. With spicy sharing scenes, naughty campfire games, and two morally grey princes, this book is perfect for fans of sizzling romances with an enchanting fairytale twist.

This is the third standalone in Erin Fae Ryan's Twelve Dancing Princesses series. Each book features a different princess and can be read in any order, but it's recommended to start with The Assassin's Dancer.

Be warned, this book contains many spicy scenes. Please check your triggers before reading.

The Mature, Dark Retelling I’ve Been Waiting For!

Finally, a spectacular 12 Dancing Princesses retelling! I grew up absolutely obsessed with the Barbie movie version of this fairytale, so reading The Prince’s Plaything felt like watching a childhood favorite grow up into something wonderfully mature, complex, and deliciously dark.

While this can technically be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series. Having that extra background makes the worldbuilding, family dynamics, and overarching plot so much richer!

The character development completely stole my heart. Eden starts out naive and sheltered, much like her sisters, but watching her grow, adapt, and find her footing throughout the story was SO rewarding. And the princes? Their development was just as incredible. The devotion, dark obsession, and protective energy these men brings..

I also loved how the author explored the complicated family dynamics. They added so much emotional depth and made the stakes feel even more personal.

And then there's Castor. Just... CASTOR.

Please check the TWs before diving into this one! While I absolutely loved the story, there are chapters that get very dark and may be triggering for some readers. I’d recommend checking the content warnings beforehand, especially if you have specific sensitivities.

If you love high-spice romantasy, obsessive devotion and fairytales with teeth, don't skip this one!

Honestly, this one just wasn’t for me
I went into this knowing it was a dark romance, so I wasn’t expecting a sweet, fluffy love story, but I really struggled with the lack of consent throughout the book. Eden wants to go home, and they won’t let her. There were also parts that felt really uncomfortable to me, especially when one brother seemed to be pushing Eden toward the other for safety to help build their relationship faster. That just felt more coercive than romantic to me.
I also had a hard time with the brothers themselves. Sometimes they seem to care about Eden’s feelings and opinions, and then the next minute, it’s like none of that matters. They’ll do something awful and then do one small, nice thing, and suddenly it feels like we’re supposed to forget everything else. It felt icky.
One thing I can say is that the author did a great job with the writing itself. The descriptions were great, and I think the emotions were conveyed really well. I could appreciate the way the story was written, even though I wasn’t enjoying the story or the relationships themselves.
I absolutely LOVED the first book in this series, and while the second one wasn’t quite as good for me, I was still excited to read this one. Unfortunately, this ended up being a pretty big disappointment for me. I really wanted to love it, but I just couldn’t get past the relationship dynamics and the way consent was handled.
I know dark romance comes with morally questionable characters and uncomfortable situations, and that’s not necessarily the problem for me. I just need the relationships to work for me, and these really didn’t.
I know this one is working for a lot of readers, and I’m glad people are enjoying it, but unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me. 🖤
Thank you for the ARC! These are my honest thoughts and opinions.

I was fortunate enough to receive the ARC for this and had high expectations as I LOVED The first book and enjoyed the second.
Whilst I enjoy the authors writing style and the whimsy of the world she creates I really struggled with this book.
The lack of consent and the references to this early on didn’t sit well with me, I totally understand that dark romance has these tropes but for me this pushed the limits where it felt uncomfortable to read.
I didn’t like the brother’s relationship either and couldn’t get on board with either MMC.

These are my own honest opinions and dark romance lovers may enjoy this more. Check your triggers.

Firstly, thank you so much to the publisher and Erin for gifting me an ARC. As a child, I was a huge fan of the Barbie 12 Dancing Princesses and these wonderful books both speak to my inner child and the reader I am now.

Erin-Fae is devious, keeping you on your toes with so many unexpected plot twists and character changes. This book will both shock and surprise you with many delights. I particularly enjoyed the connection to the previous books and the world/lore building she has crafted.

I very much look forward to reading the next one.

ARC review 💛 Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book!

The concept of a Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling where every sister gets her own romance? I fear this series was made to tempt me into developing an entirely new bookshelf obsession 👑✨ This time, it's Eden's turn to find her happily ever after, although the path to it is considerably more complicated than a simple fairytale ending. Enter Lux, the prince she's been growing closer to through their letters, and his enigmatic brother, Castor, who brings a whole new layer of tension to the story.

I had such a good time with this book, even if I came away wishing we'd been given more time to settle into the relationships. There were moments when the romance moved a little too quickly for me, and I think a longer book could have done wonders for the emotional development. Eden and Lux have their letters to establish that initial connection, but I wanted more of that gradual build-up on the page, particularly when it came to Eden and Castor.

And speaking of Castor... I may have found my favourite brother. 🤭

There's something about his gentler approach to Eden that really worked for me. The contrast between the brothers was one of my favourite parts of the story, especially as their feelings and attitudes towards their fated partner began to unfold. Lux certainly has some catching up to do in my personal rankings!

The idea of Eden being bonded to both brothers was such an interesting direction to take the romance. I particularly appreciated that consent and respect for Eden mattered within this complicated dynamic. Watching Lux wrestle with the possibility that he wouldn't be the only one destined for her added tension, while Castor had me wishing I could reach into the pages and give him a little encouragement.

My one big complaint? I wanted MORE of Eden and Castor. I felt that his place in the relationship could have been explored much more deeply, rather than leaving him feeling like a third wheel for so much of the story. Once the possibility of a connection between them became clear, I was desperate to see that relationship given room to breathe. A little one-on-one time with Castor would have made my day, thank you very much. 😭

For a book with a why-choose dynamic, I'd put the spice at around 3/5. It's not quite as intense as I might have expected, but I actually enjoyed the balance. I sometimes find extended threesome scenes a bit much, so this level worked for me. That said, I wouldn't have minded a little more romance (and perhaps a little more spice) for Castor. Just saying!

Beyond the romance, I'm really enjoying how this series is expanding its world. There's a sense of a much bigger, more magical universe waiting beyond the edges of the story, and it immediately brought back memories of watching the Barbie movies growing up. All those fantastical settings, magical creatures and fairytale possibilities are exactly the sort of thing that makes me want to keep exploring.

Also, I have a VERY important question. Was I imagining things, or are we potentially getting a pirate romance for one of the sisters? 🏴‍☠️ Because if there's a hint of a swashbuckling love interest on the horizon, consider my interest thoroughly piqued. I will be investigating this development with the seriousness it deserves.

Although I had a few reservations about the pacing and character development, I flew through this book. The romance was exactly the kind of escapism I needed, and I love seeing a familiar fairytale concept transformed into something aimed at readers who enjoy their happily-ever-afters with a little more danger, darkness and spice.

A quick note on content: This is a dark romance, and some scenes may be difficult for readers with particular triggers. Please check the content warnings before picking this one up.

Overall, this was a thoroughly enjoyable addition to the series, and I'm excited to see what happens next. I have more questions than answers, a growing fondness for Castor, and a suspicious feeling that the next sister might be taking us out to sea.

Erin, I hope you know what you've started. I'm invested now. 💛✨

To start off with, thank you for the early copy of this book. I love this series so far and I am so appreciative for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Now onto the review. I will say, the first two books, I was obsessed with. I devoured both of them and this one, I also finished within one day. In fact, I read the entire book during my hair appointment.

The good:
I am a big fan of why choose. They're one of my favourite tropes amd especially a taboo aspect of step brothers (they're not related)

I loved that throughout the entire book, from start to finish, it was quite obvious who was the kind and caring brother versus the not so nice one. I love a bully trope as long as there is fantastic grovelling.

I enjoyed how Eden was a unique character. She loved to sew and was so proud of her creations. She is independent and speaks her mind, helping others when she can. She is a very well thought out character. I really like her.

The magic was very interesting and I enjoyed seeing it get more and more in-depth the further into the story we got which is exactly what I was hoping for!!

The relationship of the sister's is so beautiful, I love how they always band together and protect one another, always. Still a lot of Barbie references which enjoyed also.

Now, the not as good parts:
I wish there was more grovelling. I feel as though Eden forgave the mcc's incredibly easily which I could kind of understand if it was part of the bond aspect however, I do wish there was more grovelling. Some of the things that the Prince's had done, I really personally believed, Eden should have been more upset about however again, it could be the bond.

Another aspect that I wish was further explored was Eden's magic. I feel like it wasn't really part of the story until it became necessary and I found myself a bit confused of her magic. Was she a healer? Could she manipulate emotions? Especially at the end, I thought personally, it was a bit rushed when she used her magic to - trying not to spoil here - help someone. I just wish we had explored that more.

And finally, the trope that I didn't expect and I am not a fan of. I won't put it here because that is a massive spoiler but it didn't really hold much to the plot besides that it was there, if that makes sense. Characters got upset and mad about it but there was nothing that really came of it?

The spice was pretty tame in my opinion compared the the previous book but I did still enjoy it. Especially the threesome scenes. Like I said, I love a good why choose. And the camp-fire?! Dayumn.

But overall. I still loved the book and will absolutely continue the series as the books come out.

Thank you Author Erin for allowing me to read the arc!!!

So far, I have absolutely loved the 12 Dancing Princesses series. Ami's story was the perfect way to start this off, Dahlia I think will always be my favourite character and I was so excited to see Eden's because I just knew her powers would be so much more than expected. This book, I feel just didn't quite hit as well as the first two. I love a good bully trope, but I feel like Castor and Lux got off too easy. I was hoping to see Eden really make them work for her forgiveness especially after what they did to Meera. I was also a little sad to see her and Ami leave off on bad terms. I was also really hoping to see more of an in-depth journey on the shaping of Eden's ability.

I really enjoyed this book, i finished it within 6 hours so its not bad at all! It left me wanting more though: more information, more begging for forgiveness but also more from this series and this author!

Finally, I have to give praise to the author for the line "if having daughters was all it took to stop wicked men from harming women, this world would be a much nicer place." I loved this so much! I want more of this sass from all the sisters! Also makes me hope baby is a girl because I just know Castor and Lux will be a puddle for it.

I finish a while ago got an early copy, I liked it and the writing from this author is alway amazing and engaging. I tend to finish her books in a day. I liked the previous book more, just plot wise and Dahlia was more a character I would engage with. But plot was good and engaging.

However, while I know it’s a dark romance I felt there were aspects where there was a lack of consent. 100% dark romances are taboo and have extreme aspects but a lack or consent shouldn’t be one. It kind of gave me an ick that the prince that wanted to marry Eden asked his brother to mess with her in a sexual way so she would run to him for safety, like that’s not just a lack of consent but coercion.

That said I like the author and writing style, she’s a good author just aspects of this book felt wrong

ARC Review 💛 Thank you so much for giving me early access to this book!! I needed a good fall read to start off this autumn season and this was the book to enjoy!!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, ERIN RYAN IS READING MY MIND AND GIVING ME THE ROMANCE STORIES I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO READ!!!!

This book hits every itch I’ve had for a Romantasy series, Eden is so sweet and considerate as our FMC. She is such a great contrast to her previous sisters books. Reading Eden’s POV honestly impressed me because I think Erin captured a very different mindset when writing her, she isn’t as sassy and bold as her sisters, her love is in her actions (literally!) and its a refreshing take to read a series where each FMC isn’t a carbon copy of each other. She engaged me, even if at times I wanted her to riot against our Prince’s. WHICH SPEAKING OF!!! A reverse harem only works if the power is in the hands of our FMC, and for as much fight that Lux and Castor put up with each other, they gave their power over to Edens’ sweet sensibilities. The boys took a little longer for me to fall in love with compared to our other MMC’s (Kaz I love you with my whole heart)

The world we get to see inside of Erin’s books is developing by the day and count me in as excited!! The slow build of the world outside the palace grounds of the 12 is expanding with each book, and I like how we are getting to expand our knowledge right along side with our sheltered princesses. It doesn’t feel like an information dump, but more like Erin is introducing us to the world around us as the girls explore and gain their own independence from the secrets of their father. I don’t enjoy being thrown into the deep end of world lore, so the slow development of each book to piece together the bigger picture has made me more invested in read this series.

For as much of this book I will rave about, here were the personal problems I faced with reading this book. Clearly nothing was large enough for me to put it down and stop reading, but some people have different taste in romance and thats okay! Things I was not a fan would have to start with the conflicting mindset of Eden through out the book. She felt constantly like she was thinking about how little she wanted to be in her situation with the Princes’, her words would say how much she wanted out and so did her actions, but suddenly by the end of the book she has turned 180. Sure, there is slow burn romance, but I felt like Lux and Castor needed to give Eden more for all the heart ache and hell they put her through!!! I can enjoy a Sleeping Beauty interpretation, but it is hard to have a FMC toss around the word “r*pe” so often and experience drugging/sedation and still suppose to end up with the MMC’s. Thankfully Erin listed these warnings on her website, but not always my cup of tea. Made it hard to want to come back around on the MMC’s.

At the base of these Romance books, is the strong bond among the 12 sisters. It matters so much to me how every book develops a further relationship between different sisters. I love how deeply they care about each other, but clearly are still sisters with growing pains with each other. The cross over of the stories happening at the same time as this book adds such a dimension of interest to the series.

If you want to get in on the ground floor of a series that has well developed FMC/MMC’s, twisting romances, a little bit of magic, then this series is just getting started! A must read for any Romantasy reader.

A Little Magic, Two Princes, and Mixed Feelings ✨
🌶️🌶️

Review of advance copy recieved from Author

Having followed Erin's writing journey from the very beginning, it's always such a joy to dive into another one of her books! Her writing style is as lovely as ever: easy to follow, engaging, and so wonderfully flowing that it's hard to put her stories down!

While I really enjoyed her previous books, I have to admit that this one wasn't entirely my cup of tea. But that doesn't mean there weren't things I loved!

I really enjoyed Eden's creativity and her passion for sewing and designing dresses. It made her character feel unique! I also loved seeing her magic develop throughout the story, especially towards the end, when we really got to discover what she was capable of. The thoughtful gifts she created for the brothers were honestly some of my favourite moments!

And Castor?! I really enjoyed his character! He was definitely one of the highlights of the story for me. 💕 Lux, on the other hand, was a little harder for me to connect with.

One of the things I struggled with was how consent was portrayed in certain moments. There were times when Eden seemed uncomfortable or unwilling, and the fact that she later admitted she had wanted some of it didn't completely resolve that discomfort for me. I understand that this kind of dynamic might appeal to other readers, but personally, it wasn't something I particularly enjoyed.

And I think I've also discovered that a why-choose romance involving two brothers just isn't my favourite trope, haha! 😂 But that's entirely a matter of personal preference!

I was also really happy that Eden's sisters remained part of the story! I especially appreciated Amaryllis's reaction to the relationship, as I could genuinely understand her perspective. I'd definitely recommend reading the previous two books first to fully appreciate the characters and their history.

Overall, this was another imaginative and uniquely written story from Erin! Although the romantic dynamic wasn't quite for me, I still enjoyed many aspects of the book, especially the creativity, the magic, and the familiar characters. Not every trope is for every reader, and that's perfectly okay!

One thing's for sure, though: I'll definitely keep reading everything Erin writes! She's such a talented author, and I absolutely love her storytelling. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next! 💕

This is the first book I have read of Erin’s though it is the third book in the series. That being said I still followed along quite easily, and didn’t have any issues at all with getting into the plot. She made it quite easy for new readers to get hooked, while still giving enough detail on past stories.

The premise of the series is 12 sisters, the 12 dancing princesses, where each book is one princess. This is the third princess story, but my first one. It follows Princess Eden. Who is a quiet, shy, sweet seamstress who loves her sisters, dancing, and is a tad bit naive. Her nativity and innocence though aren’t bad things. I felt like it brought a lot of softer strength to the story. While I love seeing bada*s FMCs, it was also nice to see one who was caring and soft. But also had a backbone when needed.

This was a why choose story, so it was a bit spicy and did have multiple lovers. I didn’t think the spice overloaded the plot though by any means. There were still many great characterization and plot moments. The two princes: Lux and Castor are quite opposites at times. Despite being brothers they are literally like Fire and Water.

They’re lineage is a unique little secret, as is the fact that their not human. Which ends up being quite a suprise to Eden. I love seeing their relationship with Eden blossom, and the brothers find acceptance in each other. Lux was often very protective and calm. But also could a bit unfair at times I felt like. His feud with his brother felt a bit drawn out at times, but I also appreciated that he was flawed. It would have been boring if there was no conflict among them.

Castor made me laugh often. At first I was really unsure about him, but I truly love how much he cares for those he loves. The banter between him, Eden, and Lux was amazing.

I am curious to see more of their fae world, and how it will play a part in the other princesses story’s. I also think the King, Eden and the other sister’s father is a bit suspicious and selfish. So I’m excited to see where it will go from there!

Overall I found this to be quite the enjoyable read and really hope to read the other sister’s books! I love how Eden’s book is her own, but still incorporated her sisters. Really cute and fun read!

First of all, I would like to give thanks to the author and her team for sending me an ARC copy of the book. I really wanted to try to step out of my comfort zone with this one because I am not well-read in the dark romance genre as of yet.

For what I thought was good, I really think the pacing and prose was well done. It kept me hooked from the first chapter, if only to see what other ridiculous things Prince Castor would do. I’m not offended by the “why choose” trope as long as it is done tastefully and I feel in this instance it was done well.

Onto the constructive criticism I have. I’m not well-read in dark romance, so I’m not sure if this is common, but I did not like the themes of lack of consent or how it was brought up multiple times. They say they don’t force themselves onto women but… then they do pretty much do that to Eden. It gave me a bad feeling that it was kind of polished away with the reasoning between the lines being that she actually liked it.

Furthermore, there are heavy themes of coercion. Lux put Castor up to terrorizing Eden for the purpose that she would go running to Lux for comfort/safety and fall for him faster, meanwhile Lux is pretending to be a perfect Prince. I saw through the act from the first chapters myself. I was actively thinking, “He seems a little too tame and perfect for being in a dark romance. I bet he’s behind all of this somehow and he’s hiding something horrible and I bet Castor is actually the more tame one that is putting on a front of sorts.” I was mostly correct.

I did like the reveal that they are both half-fae. Their behavior makes a little more sense in general in that way, but I still dislike the heavy coercion and lack of consent going on. I do understand that dark romance has darker themes in general, evil or morally grey mmcs, but I do think I’ll need to consider that heavy coercion like this and lack of consent may be among my triggers.

For that, I’m not sure I’m going to end up finishing it.

Either way, I wish the author well with her release day and future works! Just because it didn’t hit the mark for me doesn’t mean it won’t for others.

“I’m fairly certain if I’d asked him for the sun he would’ve found a very big ladder and brought it down for me, wrapped with a huge yellow bow.”

I’ve been having a difficult time reading as of late, but this book was the perfect thing to help with that. I am so excited to see more of the other princesses stories, because they’re all so different and very much give each princess her own personality and path. This one was a lot of fun, and yet somehow not at all what I expected from reading the info on it.

What I liked:
🪡I loved that Eden sews and embroiders, it was so fun to read and feel her joy at new fabric.
🪡I loved that she tried to stand up for herself when things weren’t as she wanted.
🪡I want to say something but it would be a spoiler, so I’ll just say that Erin is awesome at writing these types of characters.
🪡I loved the descriptions of the woods and areas around the manor.
🪡I liked that things felt mostly resolved by the end.

What I struggled with/didn’t really like:
✨I wish there was something more obvious that acknowledged some of the lack of consent. I know it’s a dark romance, but even if we just had a scene where L and C acknowledged that more explicitly that would help.
✨I wish it was a bit longer, just so the changes in feelings didn’t feel quite so sudden.

Favourite character/s:
Maxine, Eden

Who this is for/recommendations:
🪡If you like sewing or embroidery or just crafty things
🪡If you like pretty flowers
🪡If you loved the Barbie films as a child but don’t want a book that is aimed at children
🪡If you want to feel a confusing mix of emotions
🪡If you enjoyed ANY of Erin Fae or Erin Fae Ryan’s books.

I read an e-arc of this book (very late compared to the release date) and am leaving an honest review voluntarily. I am also a member of this author’s street team.

Writing

I just finished The Prince's Plaything as an ARC reader, and once again, Erin Fae Ryan has absolutely blown me away with her writing\!

I genuinely think I could've devoured this book in two days if I hadn't been away on holiday and barely had any time to read. Once I actually got the chance to sit down with it, I was completely hooked.

Now, Eden? Easily my favourite FMC so far\! I've already read Dahlia's story, and I'm yet to read the first book, but there's just something about Eden that I absolutely adored. Her personality, her attitude and especially her humour made her so entertaining to read.

> "I swear I’ll turn this fork into a weapon if he doesn’t give me back my pasta right now."

Honestly, she's so real for that. 😭

And the brothers... well, I know EXACTLY who I'd be choosing if I were Eden.

CASTOR. DUHH.

> “I’m fine, princess.”

That man had me hooked. I loved the dynamic between the characters, and the banter made their interactions even more enjoyable.

I also really enjoyed the deeper storyline surrounding Lux's mother and Eden's father. It added another layer of intrigue beyond the romance, and I loved getting to uncover more of their history. Eden's gift was another aspect that really caught my attention, and I thought it was such an interesting addition to the story.

And can we talk about getting to see Dahlia again at the end?\! I absolutely loved that little connection between the books. It made me so happy to see a familiar character return\!

Overall, another fantastic read from Erin Fae Ryan. Her writing continues to be one of my favourite things about these books, and I love how she manages to balance the darker elements, romance and humour.

Now I just need to go back and read the first book!

Thank you Author for the opportunity to read the Arc of this book 💛🌻🌅🏹
⏔⏔⏔ ꒰ ᧔ෆ᧓ ꒱ ⏔⏔⏔

First of all the concept of 12 dancing princess each having their own books and to making them spicy? That's exactly what I needed, in this book we follow Eden the 3rd sister who finds herself to be enamoured by another prince named lux and he wants to court her, and as we know things are she goes to live with him and his mysterious not so kind brother!!

But oh my god the way we get know who is kinder and who is more possessive eventually, this is indeed dark romance in it's nature and not a woke person's cup of tea but I absolutely loved the concept of two brothers sharing her but how they respect her consent and how absolutely cute castor is and more gentleman while it takes a good time and convincing for lux to accept that she is fated partner of both of them and they are fae.

I also liked how the author has literally made the world so much more broader as someone who loved the barbie movie it gives me such a image how the world is whole alot magical and there are fae and so much more, i really hope there are vampires to and one of the sister get married or whatever the plot will be to him/her? Who knows?

I absolutely devoured this book in no time and i am ao glad i got to read this arc because the way this author writes romance is indeed what I needed rn !!

HELP, WHAT WAS THIS BOOK???

Right from the beginning, we had Eden torn between the bad boy brother and the golden boy, and I was curious to see how things would unfold. But then the secret society comes into play, the mystery keeps building, and at some point, I had absolutely no idea what was going on (in the best possible way).

Lux and Castor are literally the yin and yang, but halfway through the book, it felt like they had switched personalities, which I found really interesting because I’d never read anything like that from Erin before. I also felt there was some great character development, especially with Eden, as she starts to understand what she wants and find her place in the story.
The only thing that stopped me from giving this book 5 stars was how easily Eden seemed to forgive Lux and Castor. I also felt that the protectiveness between the sisters, although really lovely, was sometimes a bit excessive too.

BUT THAT PLOT TWIST??? AND THOSE LAST CHAPTERS??? Erin, my dear, how am I supposed to be okay after this? I NEED THE NEXT BOOK YESTERDAY. The fantasy elements keep getting better, and after that ending, I’m far too curious to find out what happens next.

All in all, I’m getting more and more hooked on this series, and I need answers. A LOT of answers.

LOVED the continuation of these interconnected stand-alones. I’m loving getting to uncover more of the background of Sol with each book while also seeing each princess flourish on their own.

I really enjoyed going into the book already knowing that it was a why-choose romance because it allowed me to get attached to all of the characters right off the bat instead of feeling like I had to choose one to like more than the other. For me I ended up really enjoying that aspect because while there was tension, I didn’t feel as stressed reading it because I already knew where the romance was generally going.

That being said, there were still plenty of twists for me to be content. Multiple of them I would not have expected, which is always super appreciated when an author is able to write in actual surprises instead of keeping everything predictable.

I was extremely happy reading this one from beginning to end and can’t wait for more of the series to be released.

~~~~~
Will I read more of this series? Absolutely yes, it’s one that moves to the top of my TBR pile when released.
Would I read more from this author? Definitely
Would I recommend this book to others? 100% and I already have to multiple people!
The Princes Plaything
Book3 did NOT disappoint. Read this within a day!
I genuinely wondered how I’d feel as I loved book 2, The Demons Captive so much.
But Eden I absolutely loved… I love that she made her dresses, she advocated for herself against anyone who tried to take her voice, she was both fierce and soft.
I know I’m meant to love Lux, because he’s the price charming, but there was absolutely a switch up towards the end. And I’ll have to say, Castor had me from the get go!
This book is raunchy, and so many times I had no idea what would happen next, but all I know is that I’m up for mallowberrie toasting ahha!
Loved that it wasn’t all ‘smut’, once again Erin has incorporated that with a genuinely interesting storyline. I wasn’t always sure what was going to happen next, I liked the unpredictability of it!
Definitely read the trigger warnings as there are some darker areas, but they’ve been written with such talent that it works perfectly.
But a why choose… what a cracking choice 😉 , couldn’t recommend enough as if I tried.
3/3 in this series, and each have been a 5 star standing on their own merit! Can’t wait to see what Erin brings us next… and which princess!
ARC Review! Thank you to the author for the advanced copy! I loved this book so much I want to read the other two!
At first, I was a little skeptical with the idea of a throuple but the main group was just too good to put down. This is the fastest I have ever read a book and I was obsessed!
I was a little disappointed in Eden for not being more angrier with the princes over a couple things. There were some moments that I was questioning why she still cared for them and stayed but I suppose it was worth it in the end.
I NEED to know more about the princesses magic! I loved the fantasy elements and how we learned just a tad bit about each one but I need more! I was surprised Castor was the one who caught that she could do more and that she didn’t realize it. And I want to know why the princesses are hiding their magic when it seems like magic is very prominent with the faerie realm being a thing.
Overall, I could not put this book down until I finished! Definitely check the content warnings on the website before reading because a twelve dancing princesses based story wouldn’t seem so steamy! Loved it!
Almost burned dinner because I was reading
Captor x Captive, CNC, dub-con, MFM, seamstress FMC, innate magic
Once again Erin delivers, the plot-twists had my head spinning. Also my poor husband got unintelligible quarter-hourly updates because I was bewildered at every chapter😄
Although it is a standalone I strongly recommend that you start with the first book The Assassin's Dancer because it does spoil the first two books.
The FMC is a sweet, completely innocent woman, who caught the interest of two step-brothers. They whisk her away into their castle willingly, but there are many secrets revealed and now Erin wants to leave, but they won't let her.
I strongly recommend you read this book if you are looking for a head-spinning story, with a good laugh and sinful spice.
My only critique is that the last 30% of the book fell flat for me, especially compared to the rest of the book.
P.S I am reeeeally waiting for Fern's story🥰
I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and I swear this series gets better and better with each book. I absolutely devoured this book I was reading it every possible second I could until I got to the end. I'm talking late nights, early mornings, during meals, at red lights, you name it! I really loved getting to know Eden as a main character and having a why choose with a fae mating bond involved was such an interesting concept. The setting and aesthetic for each book is always different but established so beautifully. The sunflower manor was gorgeous and a really good representation of Lux's obsession with gift giving and surrounding Eden with beautiful things to make her happy. My only complaint is there felt like a lot of things that were really glossed over. The reveal of Eden being pregnant and Fern being Lux's half sister definitely should have been a lot bigger emotionally but the narrative seemed to move past them pretty quickly. Overall I was very pleased with this edition to the series, the teaser for the focus of the next book was a lot more of a cliffhanger this time (seriously, WHAT is going on with Camellia?) And I'm super excited to see where it goes next!
Firstly, thank you so much for providing me with an ARC of The Prince's Plaything, Erin. Trust me, I was incredibly happy when I received it, as I'm a huge fan and have already read your previous two books in the series.
And this one? It was something else! It kept me on the edge of my seat with every chapter. The plot twists had me screaming and constantly caught me off guard. Just when I thought I knew what was coming, the story managed to surprise me all over again!
If you're looking for a dark romance with an engaging plot and unexpected twists, this book is definitely for you. You won't find yourself getting bored because the curiosity to discover what happens next simply won't let you put the book down.
So far, this is my favourite book in the series, and I can't wait to read the upcoming books. Thank you so much, Erin, for writing such a wonderful story. This book was genuinely a pleasure to read.
I've also recommended it to my friends, and they loved it too! In fact, I even managed to turn my non-reader friend into a reader through this series. I think that says something about how captivating these books are!
First off thank you so so much for this copy! I was able to read it as an arc reader, and am absolutely delighted to have had the opportunity.
On to the review, honestly had mixed feelings about the mc’s of this book. At first I was obsessed with lux and how sweet and caring he was towards Eden the fmc. Then I started to get the most massive ick for him,and start to like the other mc castor more. Only to be thrown into an ick for both mc’s. While I do wish both mc’s had more consequences for their actions, I also understand that for the plot of the story you can only fit so much into X amount of pages. I do wish that there was a little bit more of the groveling/begging for forgiveness as both MC‘s did in my opinion really messed up things to Eden. On the flipside of that I also in a sense felt almost as if I two was bonded with both of them and that pulled to want to love them and want to be with them. That is something that I will say this book is a five star rating for me is the fact that I truly felt as if I was in Eden‘s position wanting to hate them for what they did to me, but also feeling that unspoken or unnatural pull towards both MC’s.
As far as spice, I wish we would’ve gotten a one-on-one scene with Eden and Castor.I understand that the whole plot was that eden was supposed to be Lux’s and only his however, once the fact that her bonding towards castor as well was introduced, I would’ve liked for him to have gotten some love himself. It almost felt as if up until the very last chapter that he was just kind of there as a nuisance to Eden and Lux’s relationship. Which he kind of was, but I just wish that we would’ve seen a little bit more of Eden and castor’s relationship developed as as well as Eden and Lux. As far as how many chili peppers I’d give this I’d say a solid 3 1/2. It was pretty mild for being a why choose , threesome trope book however, personally I kind of liked that it was more on the milder side of threesomes because sometimes more in depth, more spicy threesome scenes can be a little bit much for me personally.
Overall, I love this series. I love the idea of the series and will continue to support Erin fae Ryan as an author. I truly believe that her writing and storytelling is one of my favorites out of all of the authors that I have read. I love the simplicity while also the complexity of the characters and how you truly find that the characters evolve throughout the story.
Thank you for the ARC!!! I am absolutely obsessed with this series and the universe that the author has
created. Each book has done such a great job building the overall plot and character
dynamics, while also being an individual romance book per princess. This book was no
different, because so much of the story behind Sol and his daughters is revealed, and
each little detail is another level of excitement for me. I especially loved Eden’s story
because there were more even toned scenes rather than violent ones going on. I see
those as crucial to other books thus far, but this one had the perfect level of discord
and less violent approaches to handling them.
As for the romance, I loved the two princes one princess trope, and every time Lux
and Castor fought I was sad. Eden deserves them both. I loved the spice of this one
(not more than TDC, haha!) and think there are new parts of me that have been
unlocked. I’m not sure if that's good or bad, but I’ll take it! I also can’t wait until the
next book because this one has really set the background plot for books to come. The
author is doing a really good job at building the story for the future princesses!
ARC REVIEW
Inspired by the 12 Dancing Princesses, this "Why Choose" romance follows sweet princess Eden, who accepts an invitation from a prince to live with him in his mansion. Upon arrival, however, she realizes she will be sharing the space—and the tension—with both the prince and his stepbrother.
While the story can technically be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series beforehand. It gives you a much better reading experience and a deeper appreciation for the world.
The highlight of the book for me was definitely the character development. Eden starts out as an innocent, sheltered princess like her sisters, but her growth over the course of the book is amazing to witness. As for the princes? Oh my God! They are everything you want in a dark romance: obsessed, protective, and completely devoted. Lux plays the role of the sweet prince, while Castor is the quintessential bad boy. If I had to choose just one, I would pick Castor in a heartbeat—I just love an obsessed prince!
If you are a fan of spicy romantasy, you should definitely check this out. Just make sure to check the trigger warnings beforehand, as a few of the chapters get quite dark.
This 3rd book about Princess Eden and her two Princes, that court her in a Palace full of lies, twists and torture was a real rollercoaster. I really loved the character design and gap between Castor and Lux was great and I loved it. In my opinion Castor was the greener Flag of the two brothers 😂 I would even go as far as calling Lux a yellow Flag after everything he has done😭
I can fully agree on Amis opionion of not surporting their relationship after everything Eden went thrrough with the two of them, but at the end of the day I am happy that all 3 of them got their happy ending and are happy together 🥹
Which is also why I love how Eden was trying to get away from them til the end and never backed down with her resolve and wishes.
The real betrayal was skipping the threesome smut scene at the Inn after the whole foreplay and teasing 😭
For anyone who is into the "why choose" trope definitely a must read. I loved every book of the 12 dancing spicy book series so far and cant wait for the next book to come ❤️
ARC REVIEW 🩰🪽
——————————————————————————-
This is the 3th book in this series based on the 12 dancing princesses. 👸
This story follows Eden, she’s by far probably the most innocent sister of them all although that definitely changes throughout the book!
Eden meets a lovely stranger (a prince) and his brother at her sister’s birthday party. Prince Lux and prince Castor. After the party she keeps writing letters with Lix and he decides he wants to court her and invites her to stay at his palace for a month. 🌻
Eden goes to the palace and gets everything she desires but at what cost…? The prince’s are not who they say they are and they decide she is they’re new plaything.
This book was such a fun and easy read i’ve loved every book in the series and oh my lord, 2 AT THE SAME DAMN TIME…🤭.
Also the little sneak peaks and hints we got on the next book eeee, im so excited a pirate trope?????🏴‍☠️⚔️
Say less, if you haven’t read it go read this rn!
Thank you to the author, Erin Fae Ryan, for an ARC copy of this. Honestly, I was waiting for this book to come out once I found out who was going to be starring in book 3 at the end of book 2! This is part of an interconnected series where they are all standalone, so you can read them out of order, but it definitely makes more sense and gives you a better experience if you read them in order. This is part of a 12 dancing princesses dark inspired retelling. I’ve read all of the books so far and every single one is a banger!! Like I genuinely can’t wait to see where the world is going to take us with the next few princesses. I loved seeing how the relationship progressed between Eden, Lux and Castor. There were a lot of twist and turns with the relationship for sure, but in the end, everything worked out how it was supposed to.
AHHHHH!!! SO WORTH THE WAIT. though I desperately wish I had found this series after it was completed because I WANT IT ALL NOW. Erin Fae Ryan has quickly jumped into my list of top five favorite authors ever. I will read anything she writes…. BUT THIS BOOK!!!!!!! I have no notes. Except for I wanted more!!! I adore princess Eden!!! And the plot twists in this book were simply devine. Why choose trope is my favorite. I love that with each book there is more revealed about the girls powers. I love how thoughtfully curated the powers are to each girl’s personality. I love how each princess is SO unique and different and how the mmc’s are not cookie cutter book boyfriends. If you were a fantasy or Barbie girly growing up and love spicy romance now, this series, this book is for you. It will not disappoint.
