Great compilation of abridged classics. The illustrations grab the attention of children or reluctant readers. We used it as a read aloud. I read it to my 10yo son and he really enjoyed most of the stories. It was a "sneaky" way for me to introduce stories that he wouldn't pick up on his own.
I think that this is a very good way for children to read classics from famous authors without struggling, because it is easier to read. I personally think that it didn’t have to be so illustrated and could have been a bit harder. I think that it is a very fun book, but I would have given it five stars if it was a little bit more advanced. All in all it is a very good book, and personally it is my favorite Usborne book.
Quite a good read, especially with the a number of classics. Definitely, need to read with the child if they are young. Other than that I like how the book has the illustrations which help. It's a good read for bedtime.
Usborne Illustrated Classics Action Stories for Young Readers. Phew! That’s a mouthful of a title, but I appreciate the publisher updating the title from “Illustrated Classics for Boys”. As a female, I can safely say that I am able to enjoy the stories as well. 😉 My boys got super excited about Robin Hood. Lots of leaping up as we read and pretending to shoot their own bows and arrows through the trees. I love the text/graphics ratio in this volume - keeps my 4 and 7 year olds engaged!
