Five people wake up in a warehouse, bound to chairs. Before each of them, tacked to the wall are their witness testimonies. They each paid a part in labelling one of Britain's most loved family entertainers a paedophile and sex offender. Clearly revenge is the reason they have been brought here, but the man they accused is supposed to be dead. Opportunity knocks and Diddy Dave Diamond has one last game show to host and it's a knock out.
Matthew Cash, or Matty-Bob Cash as he is known to most, was born and raised in Suffolk; which is the setting for his debut novel Pinprick. He is compiler and editor of Death By Chocolate, a chocoholic horror Anthology and the 12Days: STOCKING FILLERS Anthology. In 2016 he launched his own publishing house Burdizzo Books and took shit-hot editor and author Em Dehaney on board to keep him in shape and together they brought into existence SPARKS: an electrical horror anthology, The Reverend Burdizzo’s Hymn Book, Under The Weather* Visions From the Void ** and The Burdizzo Mix Tape Vol. 1. He has numerous solo releases on Kindle and several collections in paperback. Originally with Burdizzo Books, the intention was to compile charity anthologies a few times a year but his creation has grown into something so much more powerful *insert mad laughter here*. He is currently working on numerous projects, his third novel FUR was launched in 2018. *With Back Road Books ** With Jonathan Butcher
He has always written stories since he first learnt to write and most, although not all, tend to slip into the many layered murky depths of the Horror genre. His influences ranged from when he first started reading to Present day are, to name but a small select few; Roald Dahl, James Herbert, Clive Barker, Stephen King, Stephen Laws, and more recently he enjoys Adam Nevill, F.R Tallis, Michael Bray, Gary Fry, William Meikle and Iain Rob Wright (who featured Matty-Bob in his famous A-Z of Horror title M is For Matty-Bob, plus Matthew wrote his own version of events which was included as a bonus). He is a father of two, a husband of one and a zoo keeper of numerous fur babies.
This turned out to be a rather pleasant surprise. In the Matt Shaw style story of revenge, a much loved family entertainer gets accused of being a paedophile. It ruins his life and everything points to his suicide by jumping off a bridge.
Now, five people, who all had a part in his downfall, wakes up in a warehouse, bound to chairs. It turns out Diddy Dave Diamond is very much alive and he is pissed.
The author very cleverly throws the name Jimmy Savile into the story. For those of you who are unfamiliar, he was a British celeb who got a knighthood for all the work he did for charities. He also turned out to be one of their most prolific paedophiles. And here is the saddest thing of all: That miserable piece of shit got to live his entire life as a celebrity. Even though there were accusations while he was still alive, it was quickly dismissed and accusers were sued. It was only after his death that the truth finally came out. Your opinion of Jeffrey Eppstein? Well, this guy was much, much worse. In fact, if anybody deserved to die a slow, painful death in the worst kind of agony, it was Savile.
Well, when you go through the story, you will see that this could have been a type of homage to what could have happened of Savile was exposed in his lifetime, but it gets turned on its head real quick. The vile and disgusting things he does to these five people will fit right into your idea of what a person like him can be capable of.
But that ending damn! I loved it. Highly recommended to the fans of Matt Shaw and the like.
This one reads like an early version. There were a few scenes that were great (if gore is your thing) but the characters were underdeveloped and the storytelling choppy.
Ewwwwwwww!!! The sexual violence & the frequent bodily fluid descriptions were a bit much for my taste! But the story is great and I love me a bit of revenge...even if it's a bit twisted :)
Krackerjack is the story of a TV personality taking revenge on those who made accusations of rape and molestation which ended his career. It’s fast paced and gross in places, and while an easy read I found the character of Diddy Dave Diamond to be underplayed. I wanted more of the twisted showman, some greater depth to his psychosis. That’s the only reason I gave it four stars. If Diddy Dave had come to life, I would have happily made it five!
One thing is for certain; I’ll never be able to play Connect Four without grinning.
An excellent tale of revenge! So often people do or say things without thinking of the repercussions, usually presuming there won't be any... Yet if their past does catch up with them they just might find that blood money, when being collected upon in blood, becomes a price nobody will want to pay or are able to pay back without paying the ultimate price! Well written book I would recommend to others.
Man I read this short last night cuz I couldn't sleep holy fucking shit... If you want a fucking gruesome, vile, brutality violent revenge story that is brutal and just full throttle fast paced from start to finish... This is it and the ending on that fucking ending makes it worth it all. 5 connected stars from me
Fun, quick read that has just the right amount of gore. This is a non-stop revenge story that just might have you rooting for the "bad guy", I know I was. One of the games in the story was absolutely brilliant and I giggled throughout that whole chapter. I can't say more without giving it away so read it and find out!
For some, Matthew Cash’s greasy little horror novella “Krackerjack” will seem like an amoral, deeply offensive river of schlock, gore and faeces best wiped from the mind as soon as possible.
For the sickos among us, though, it will seem like an amoral, deeply offensive river of schlock, gore and faeces that will leave us eager for more.
The tale’s setup is pleasingly simple: a shamed 1970s TV host accused of numerous counts of kiddy-fiddling wreaks torture porn-style revenge on the people who blemished his once-good name – in the form of one final, deadly game show. As the depraved twists on famous popular entertainment games take place, bodily holes are plundered, slime and blood are spilled, participants are eliminated and ghastly truths are revealed.
“Fun” may seem a strange word to use for a book that features more bodily fluids than a bunga bunga party held in a sewer, but that’s just what it is. It’s written in a blunt, frills-free style that at times reminded me of Richard Laymon, which was ideal for setting the story’s perverse tone and effective at keeping the pace lightning-quick.
If you are looking for a fast, grimy and nauseatingly funny read, you can do far, far worse than spend an hour or two with Krackerjack.
On the other hand, if you’re offended by extreme violence or sexual assault being treated without the gravitas many feel it should always be handled with, steer well clear!
I feel slightly guilty and ever so slightly depraved saying that I enjoyed this! The premise is great, and disturbingly plausible and the whole thing has a very cinematic feel about it, very much in the vein of vengeance based gory thrillers. It's definately not a book for the easily offended, easily disturbed or easily nauseated, but if you like your horror bloody and harsh then this is one for you!
I’m always drawn to stories described as ‘extreme horror’, especially shorter stories like this one, and it certainly fits that description. The story itself was great; essentially a revenge tale with more to it than I had expected to begin with. The book contains a lot of graphic torture / humiliation (hence extreme horror), and these scenes were more imaginative than in other stories I have read. If you have the stomach for it, KrackerJack is a great, entertainingly disturbing read.
This book was filled with humor, suspense, great and weird characters and awesome plot twists! I'm very excited to read more by this author so far he's an amazing addition to modern horror!
This was indeed, a knockout. Couldn't put it down once I started. The description is almost like watching a film in your head. Surely the most promising upcoming horror writer going.
The first Matthew Cash book I've read and I'm very Impressed! Dark, sick, twisted and very clever. Brilliantly written. I'll never look at the game Connect 4 in the same way again!
Yes you will read this brutal novella in day but you'll have a blast. And if Mr Cash invites you over for drinks and parlour games, say no, just to be on the safe side!
Most of us who grew up in the 70s and 80s will, at some point, have heard some horrific information about a celebrity we idolised in our youth. Thank god all my requests to a certain cigar smoking fixer were all so outrageous I was never in danger of his track suit or what was contained within it. Diddy Dave Diamond was a national treasure. Loved by all and never off your telly, so when he is accused of heinous crimes against children, his career over, his glamorous wife leaving him, nobody is surprised that his car is found by a suicide spot. Two years later and his accusers all awaken, tied up, with their police statements pinned to the wall. What follows is a cross between Saw and The Generation Game. Matty’s inventive imagination and descriptive prose has me horrified and laughing at the same time. Blood and gore, torture and degradation abound. There are no real winners in this tale of revenge and deceit, apart from us readers who are treated to an eye watering crescendo of pain and misery. Go get a copy and enjoy the ride.
Dark, disturbing and at time nauseating. It’s definitely for “people who like that sort of thing”.
The premise is interesting and different from anything I have read before. I would absolutely say it is not for children or for sensitive adults. There are many moments of extreme sexual and physical violence. It’s almost like taking all the most sickening parts of “American Psycho” and putting them together.
I have given it 3 stars as while I can appreciate it's worth even if I don’t enjoy the subject and because it contains multiple spelling and grammatical error. It would definitely benefit from a good editor
A quick gross out horror story, revenge in a sick and twisted way. Given the extreme nature of the story there wasn't a lot of character development, motivations could have been explored a little more for a bit more depth. Always solid writing from Matt 4*
I enjoyed all the different games that the characters had to go through. I thought they were used very creatively. For me, I think chapter 7 was the hardest for me to get through. But, chapter 6 made me cringe the most, I was always terrible at this one, so it made it more tense for me. My leg shook in the scene with this chapter. I felt myself constantly going back and forth with how I felt about the characters. I liked getting to see all their sides. I felt bad for some of them, but I was conflicted with how they each went about things. With how gory and surprising this was, I'm sure Krackerjack 2 will be just as good.
