Stefan has a secret he hasn't shared with his family. Sometimes he disappears from the restaurant to visit a night club on the wrong side of town. He performs there, and it's where he met Talicia. Stefan would rather keep his worlds separate, but fate has other ideas.
Talicia loves Stefan, but she knows her rough edges would never work in his world. She just wants him in her life for however long it lasts. Talicia's poor decision puts Sefan in danger and brings her before the rest of the Marquettes, who love Stefan just as much as she does.
This isn't just any kind of family. Talicia might be in bigger trouble than she first thought.
The best of the three books in this series. Talicia isn't your typical strong black beautiful woman. On the outside she displays a steel of armor, but on the inside she is vulnerable. She has body image issues has had to fight for everything she and her brother has. She has been her brother's protector for most of her life and with a shady business partner and another shady character trying to use their club as a front, she is fighting for survival again. Stefan has the right amount of alpha to show her that he is not only her husband and lover, but partner and protector. He shows her that she doesn't have to be on the defensive and so hard all the time and that he isn't easily offended, people can say and think what they want. He sees her beauty and her womanliness.
I haven't read the other books in the series so I won't (or more so can't) compare this to them. I can say I enjoyed this. It's a short read that will have you feeling a lot of things at once, mostly for me frustration for the main characters, who couldn't get enough of each other sexually, but stumbled around like middle schoolers unwilling to admit that they love each other.
Talicia, it took a while to warm up to her because at times she just came off too hard and the reason for that was explained, having to come to her twin brother's defense, while also not growing up feeling confident in herself, looks wise. She almost crossed the border of the angry black woman trope, which I'm extremely tired of, but she had her moments of vulnerability. Stefan was not the typical alpha male trying to railroad all of Talicia's decisions about her life, but tried to be a husband to her which she would initially fight and then eventually give in.
The ending was cliched, not gonna lie. It was nicely tied together with a bow leaving the main characters with clean hands.
Shada, Talicia's sister-in-law got on my nerves. Don't know if she was like that in her book, or it could be blamed on pregnancy hormones, but she was a bit too combative with Talicia. I understand the need to be protective of your family, but straight out the gate she had her nose turned up at toward Talicia unwilling to hear or understand her side of events.
Needless to say, it was a quick story if not frustrating at times.
Stefan is the impulsive baby Marquette brother. He is the one that purchased the restaurant and got his brothers involved. Reading how he appeared to have settled down, while sneaking around behind his brothers backs to perform the way he loves was interesting. I only gave four stars because I had too many unanswered questions. Talicia suddenly just accepts Stefan, there is no real information about the twins past, and the ending was just too unreal to accept.
Baby brother with a dirty little secret. Very interesting. I like how Tressie makes the ladies in this series relatable. No perky boobs, sexy model bodies, but ladies who see themselves with body issues and men who find their bodies very sexy!! Really enjoyed this series and hope that it continues on. Maybe another family group series that will be just as hot as this series!!!
Very good, you will not be disappointed except not long enough and I hope it will not take Duke's story too long to be released. Love Tressie's writing, keep up the good excellent writing
I loved this last brother's story. I hope it's not the end of them. Would love to read how they rebuild and how the lives are. Would even love to read about Duke finding his own true love
