Being born into slavery, I never thought my owner, my very mother, would sell me. And she didn’t.

Until Matteo.

I was tormented, struggling to come to terms with my new life then he narrowed it down to two things.

Pleasure. Pain.

The man confused me at every turn with his unexpected and unattainable desires.

If only he’d speak to me.

If only he’d tell me how to avoid upsetting him.

If only I could please him.

I'm not entirely sure of what i read. This book is so painful and hard, so inhumane and depressing i don't really know from which aspect to see it. Is it just a story, or a situation close to reality?

My heart kept falling inside my chest while my mind kept screaming, PLEASE, STOP! throughout the book, i'm not new to the whole "dark romance" genre the exact opposite actually, but i never felt so helpless and discouraged from a book.

Gia and Mateo share a weird relationship. She is his slave -after certain events and a virgin of course- and he is the brutal tormentor. Just like that here is the synopsis. Of course i saw the complexity Gia's character carried and i almost forgave her for being so timid and docile, but Mateo wasn't capable of having one redeemable quality, not even one!

I understand he had his own reasons but come on, for a person that would pick up the gun and kill off 'family' members so easily, he surely didn't have the balls to act like a man towards a sweet little girl that worshiped his every move? Pathetic and a huge coward, nothing more to say.

As for Gia, she comes from a place that all those sadistic ideas have been drilled inside her psyche as normal behavior, but still she disappointed me immensely when she didn't try to leave or at least resist for that matter. She never even thought of it, that was unexpected because even a Stockholm syndrome victim wouldn't identify so easily and early on with his abuser. And i'm saying this because she showed behavioral traits that don't add up to that. Plus, from a totally cynical perspective, it was boring to read about such a heroine.

I still don't know what to think or how to rate such a book even after my lengthy rant. It certainly kept my interest but i don't feel the ending was worthy of it all. I was expecting a bigger and better explanation or an entirely different scenario. I couldn't stomach a HEA after all that, but i guess that's my own problem.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK

- The epilogue is told from Mateo's POV.
- He failed to take care of her, again and again, and i never found him sweet towards her.
- There was no real reason to get married with Monique.
- I found the whole story lacking on some aspects. Certain plotholes only served on infuriating me further.
- The author in the end shares with her audience helpful but tragic statistics and information about human slavery. That is the brightest point for me. Awareness is always the best policy.

Oh wow. I sat down to read a few pages and literally only stopped reading when I'd finished the book. I inhaled it. I've read a few of this authors books and this is certainly my favourite.

Matteo oh Matteo what have you done to me. He's a ruthless twisted character. However we do get glimpses of his softer side. He's also part of a Mafia family.

Gia was born into slavery. She doesn't know any difference. She lives & helps teach the other slaves. That is until Matteo buys her. He wants something different. He gets more than he bargained for with Gia.

Take heed of the authors warning...

Make sure you read the Disclaimer with warnings in the description of this book. Although it doesn't warn you, there are a couple of rape scenes.

I am usually a fan of the darker books, but I struggled with this story and with my feelings towards the main two characters. Matteo purchased Gia with the hopes of one day making her his wife and pleasing his father. He isn't a nice man and has a terrible temper and nothing Gia does pleases him. His father isn't happy with his choice and nothing goes as planned.

While I have read a number of other books about kidnap victims/captives/slaves similar to this story, this is not a book where the lead female grows stronger and gains confidence in the end. Sadly, she made excuses to herself for the way she was treated and believed she deserved the harsh life she was given. At one point, she lives alone for a number of months and instead of leaving and taking the opportunity to get help, she stays. She was a broken girl who thought nothing of herself. Matteo is cruel to her throughout the story until the very end. Nearly every single thing he does to Gia is unforgivable. There were no kind characters in this book, even the maid/cook is rude. To me, it was a depressing and sad story. There is supposedly a happy ending, but I'm not entirely sure I'd call it happy.

Matteo (Rossi Family #1)
by Rachael Orman

5 stars with a disclaimer –Im giving this book this rating due to the factual information given at the end of the book and the way this story sheds light on a horrific reality in our world. To say the storyline is good is not appropriate – the storyline is brutal. You cannot state something as “this is a fantastic book due to the content” but this is a book that needs to be read by EVERY woman out there if you are able to handle the theme.

I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to review this book but for some reason I pushed on and was proud that I did. Let me explain. This review is not like any other that I have written because this is another horrific crime that we chose to believe is not out there happening in our big wide world; even stateside. Its one of those things that society convinces itself it isn’t real because the emotional scars of dealing with such brutality is too difficult. We choose then to ignore it. There is a bold disclaimer at the beginning of this book from Ms. Orman. If you are not able to handle the subject of human trafficking, modern slavery, domestic violence/abuse and rape then you do NOT want to read this book. DO NOT CLICK. Ms. Orman also enlightens us with some staggering and disturbing statistics at the end of the book. THIS is when I found myself proud of the fact that I fought through the struggle or reading the story although parts are fictitious; especially in how the story ends and it does have an HEA but in the intertwines of getting there lies atrocious, evil and cruel renderings on the pages.

The story begins with Matteo, our lead male being forced into a place where he does not want to be. He is only there to prove to his father that he is loyal and willing. None of the women being paraded in front of him please him. Expressing his displeasure with any of his choices, Madame leads him into a room where he finds a sole female sitting alone. Matteo immediately without hesitation purchases her. Realizing she is a virgin, he remedies that in the dark cell like room before leaving with her.

Gia is treated just as the other girls but never did she think her own mother would sell her. She was kept with the rest and the women came and went but she thought her place would always be the cell where she sometimes educated the women and guided them prior to being sold. But maybe this man was not so bad. He had in fact called her “his bella” while he took her violently in the cell room; the room she had only known as home for her short 20 years.

Gia knew her life was about to change. How badly, how tormented she would be, she didn’t know. But Matteo seemed kind. He was much more accommodating than her own mother had ever been. Gia tried to be good, she tried to do as she was told but at times she didn’t understand. She hadn’t been trained to be sold. She knew after the first time she upset her new master that she had to learn and learn quickly. She did not want to endure what she had to at his hands ever again.

The story lays out explicit dark behaviors in what is endured as a slave. Im not going to lie I cringed numerous times while reading but was glad I continued to turn the pages. Im not uneducated in this type of criminal activity as I have a husband in the military who has been over all the world. Because of him I have been educated on always being aware of my surroundings; especially when I am alone either day or night. More than 75% of human trafficking is for sex slavery. It is said that within the next few years, human trafficking will overtake the drug trade as the most profitable trade in the world. New York, California and Florida are the most common states where trafficking occurs.
Nearly half of all victims either know their abductor/recruiter or have seen them many times in the same establishments as them before they were taken.

The information alone at the end of this book is worth the click. Im not going to lie to you; the story is brutal but eye opening. Believe it or not I applaud Ms. Orman for bringing such a horrific crime into light in such as way that more people will become aware of the horrors and what potentially is to come if we don’t become aware of this REAL event. Here in my area Spring Break is like a holiday for traffickers. Men and women who are not coherent are an easy target. I understand if you are not able to read this book but if you are able I highly recommend it. I can personally tell you I will be making my twenty year old daughter read this.

I was struggling with the star rating. 4 or 5.
so being a dark addict I give 5
the story is about the unfortunate life of Gia. She's old into slavery by her own mother yo a cruel sadist- Matteo Rossi . He's a mafiosi, but he's enamoured by Gia. He likes to torture and induce pain with rough sex which Gia complies to or is forced to bear. In a typical Stockholm syndrome scenario, she comes to depend on the scraps of love it tenderness from Matteo to bear through the horrible torture she endures. She's raped and humiliated constantly, starved and tied up in basement , blood drawn from her and bitten quite viciously. Once she falls pregnant, she is beaten till she passes out and chained till she loses the baby. Her fingers and ribs broken and no way to heal.
there's abundance of gruesome anal rape. But thankfully Matteo comes to his senses and has a baby with her and rightfully marries her.
I can see why this book was pulled from amazon. Very dark, very graphic physical violence , beyond human endurance. . I can't say that it was unreadable because I've read worse, but it's definitely not for dark novices. The story was ood. It sometimes reminded me of Madeline Abducted tho. The true dark lovers would get the reference .

After a second read of this story, I recognize Matteo is a wounded soul. He behaved in the only way he knew. He grew up with an abusive psychopath as a father. He is definitely a product of his environment. I am not squeamish when sensitive subjects are introduced in stories. However, the abuse and craziness must have a purpose. Unfortunately, I could not grasp the purpose during the first read. I'm happy I gave this story a second chance. It definitely deserved a second chance and a better rating! I look forward to supporting this series and Racjel's other works!

Four stars!

I'd like to thank the wonderful Rachel Orman, for she is amazing! You see fellow GR friends, I read books on my macbook/iPhone/iPad .. (Yes I'm an apple junkie.. oops) but "Matteo" was only released for Kindle so I messaged Ms. Orman to see if she's going to release her book in iBooks and she says that iBooks won't let her publish it so she SENDS THE BOOK TO ME! Thank you very Rachel Orman, you're such a sweetheart.
description

Matteo Rossi is part of the Italian mafia, “Welcome to the Italian Mafia way of life, bella.” and is looking for an obedient girl that will bend to his wishes, won't be a problem, and will be easy arm candy. Going to Madam's house, he meets her. Gia has lived her whole life, learning to be the perfect slave. She strives to be the perfect slave and doesn't want to disappoint Madam, so when Matteo comes up to her and says the last word she expected to hear, "Sold." from his lips, she knows she's found her new master. Through all the problems both Matteo and Gia experience together, is the unconventional couple experiencing feelings more than a slave and master should?
description

This book intrigued me and the story was NOT what I was expecting.. Call me a silly naive girl but I expected Matteo to be somewhat.. sweet? but that's not who Matteo is at all. His relationship with Gia (AKA Bella) confused the hell out of me, because there were moments where he was so gentle and sweet with her and then another moment where he would be rough, rude, and cruel to her. Half way through the book, I was screaming "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? LITERALLY LAST CHAPTER, YOU WERE BEING SO SWEET. WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON???"
description
It bugged me how.. easily obedient Gina was but then again, her whole life she was taught to be obedient and nothing else so I can't blame her for the way she thinks. It was just very sad how she was brought up..
IF YOU PLAN TO READ THIS BOOK, EXPECT TO BE SO DAMN CONFUSED AT EVERY CORNER BUT THE ENDING WILL BE SO WORTH IT.

“The pain was more than I could handle and I wanted to beg him to stop. It would be useless. I was useless to him. Maybe that was the point he was trying to make. It didn’t matter. I just wanted it to stop.”

5 dark stars!! This book was so disturbingly dark, but damn it was so good!!! I really liked this book so much! I was sucked in from page one, I love a good italian/mob book!

If only I could please him.

Wow this book was intense and such a great book. It was dark in all the right places and so sexy in all the other places. I don’t want to give too much away with my review. But if you are a fan of dark reads, then this book is for you!!! You should definitely read this book!!!

I don't know how feel about this one really. I like it but some parts had me me cringing a bit. Gia poor girl born into basically a brothel. Mateo is in the ItalianMafia. Mateo is looking for the perfect girl wife to appease his father. Fausto is Mateo's father also is the head of his family. He wants an heir from his son and wants it like yesterday with an appropriate well breed woman. I hate him. In certain parts I thought things will workout but it keeps going down hill. I thought it was going to end a different way but even though it's twist read everything works itself out at the end. Trust me I hen I say twisted its damn twisted. The writing was impeccable thank you to the author for her amazing talent.

** Provided on behalf of the author for an honest review **

As bloggers/readers this would have to be one of the hardest reviews we have ever had to write.

Her name is Gia.
Has lived in the basement of her home as far back as she can remember. Her mother, known as Madame sells women. Men come in, the women are paraded, they are chosen, they are sold.
Human trafficking at its finest.
But Madame has never offered Gia. She has never had any intention of selling her.

Until him.

He needs a slave. But his tastes are particular. He wants someone with beauty. He wants someone who will easily be trained and conform to his ways. But every woman being paraded simply doesn’t cut it. He demands a woman from Madame.

The only one left…..Gia.

So begins the story of Gia and the absolute hell she must live.

She is to give him pleasure at his demand.
No questions are ever to be asked.
She’s not to call him sir.
She is always to address him by his name, Matteo.
She is to be displayed to others when he sees fit.
She is to follow every rule, down to the inch otherwise there will be punishments.
She will tortured, starved, left in a basement chained until she learns her lesson.
Months at a time.
She will be his and only ever his.
This will be her life forever and always.
Abuse at it’s lowest, sickening level.

But what we have had trouble getting our heads around is the fact that Gia, a sex slave, finds enjoyment at the hands of this monster. She craves his attention, always wanting to please him. When her punishments are handed to her, she accepts them as learning tools so she can do better, and ultimately be a better slave and be everything Matteo needs her to be.

In all honesty it completely threw us.
How does anyone want for a life like this?
Why would anyone want to please a monster who has no regard for anybody except for himself?
Why would anyone degrade themselves in that matter?
How could anybody believe that this is normal?

Matteo for us was one of the hardest reads we have ever had. It’s highly confronting, raw, highly emotional and at times to be honest absolutely sickening. There were times that we didn’t think we could even complete it, finding the subject matter extremely daunting.

An exceptionally well written read, full of depth and emotion which we felt throughout, but we just simply couldn’t get around the choices that the character made. We understand that human trafficking is real, it happens every single day, but to want to stay in the confines of hell we just cannot fathom.

In no way are we deterring anyone from reading Matteo, but for us we simply struggled with it, not based on the subject matter as we have read this type of storyline before, but the outcome has us still shaking our head.

For us a 3 star read.

**First the Disclaimer: This is a DARK erotic Italian Mafia story. There are twisted behaviors in this book not everyone will be able to handle. Explicit, violent, and sexual scenes are involved. Not for the wary of heart. Please do not read it if any of the above mentioned acts will be hard for you in any way but if you do read it then also read the hotline information at the end of this story**

Matteo Rossi is looking for a girl but not just any girl. He needs one that will pass his father's test. His father Fausto, is the head of the Italian Mafia and wants Matteo to find a wife and give him an heir. But what Matteo wants is a slave that will do exactly what he says and wants and when she doesn't he will punish her severely. He goes to the Madam's house for a slave auction and when he doesn't see what he wants, he makes it known to the madam. When she takes him to the basement, he finds what he is looking for. But what will he loose in the process? Gia has never been brought to the auctions and no one has ever been to the basement. She is surprised when Matteo takes her innocence and then she realizes that she has been sold by her mother. Does Matteo ever regret what he does to Gia? Will Gia survive this ordeal?
This was a hard story to read but I couldn't put it down. Rachael has taken us into a world that most never think about but it does happen in this day and age. Human trafficking, slavery and sexual abuse/rape. To me this is more of an information story than a fictional story because even if you buy it and can't read it then go to the end and read the statistics and hotline information. i am sure this will shock you as it did me. You never think that a loved one will do this to someone they love. I can't wait to see what will happen next in this series. I love Rachael Orman and her writing style. She has a way of drawing you in and keeping your attention until the end and leaving you wanting more.

The warning at the front of the book should be heeded. This book is not for someone who is sensitive to domestic violence or abuse. Please be mindful before deciding to read.
Incredibly dark, this was my first foray into the slave genre. I didn't know what to expect going in and was shocked by some of what happened. However, the book was immersed in reality, and out of a life of violence experienced by Matteo and a life of slavery experienced by Gia, a love bloomed. No love in this world is the same, not even book to book, and the love between Matteo and Gia proved this. Neither had ever known love, so finding their way was a long, hard-fought journey through the darkness of their lives. But find it they did. And the light of love changed everything in their world.
The story is detailed, gritty, raw, and well told. Please DON'T miss this fact in reading the reviews. It sounds odd to say it's a great book, but from a writing standpoint, it is. Rachael created characters who were perfect for the lives from which they hailed. Matteo represented Mafia violence, 'I'm the end-all-be-all in my world' attitude, and a man who's never known softness perfectly. Gia represented naïveté, subservient behavior and attitude, and a life of knowing no emotion but anger shown to her perfectly. The secondary characters supported these lifestyles as well. Everyone had their own "voice" - they all didn't speak the same as happens in some books - and character development was deep. So yes, the story *IS* a great tale. I highly recommend it if you're able to handle the darkness and violence.
The author also included at the end statistics regarding domestic violence and human trafficking. It's an amazing insight into the world around us that people don't see or even sometimes know exists. I hope you read that page, too, as it will help give another perspective to the book even after you've finished reading.

Matteo comes with a WARNING. Do yourself a favor and READ IT. If you can't read about abuse and violence...then don't read this one. If on the other hand, if you love the darkness please read Matteo because it deals with all things dark and you will really enjoy it.

Gia was born as a slave, her only goal in life is to please her owner. She knows nothing else. She's never experienced life in anyway. When she is sold to Matteo, everything changes. She is dealt shitty hand by her mother and was a product of her environment unfortunately so was Matteo. Even with all the abuse she comes into her own. Matteo was a very hard ruthless selfish man, but when it's all said and done Gia changes Matteo as much as he changes her.

This really was a good read. Matteo was a page turner for sure. I felt bad for Gia but there was something about Matteo. Yes he is all kinds of messed up and did horrible things but...yeah I was digging Matteo. Nothing better than a well written dark story.

Matteo is complicated, ruthless and he is a very cruel man. But, below all those layers we get a small glimpse of a Matteo that can be tender.

Gia‘s mother sells her to Matteo. Gia has been a slave all her life and she is very obedient; she follows orders without questioning. But, when taken out of her lifetime environment she is lost and confused. There are times that she doesn’t know what Matteo wants and she gets punished. Those times are very rough and graphic. Gia’s life becomes a living hell.

I had to take breaks while I was reading this book during some very tense moments. This is a tough story. But don’t despair. There is light at the end of a very dark tale. Then the Epilogue gives us Matteo’s POV.

I was kind of leery about reading Matteo, due to the disclaimer. But I love everything else that Rachael Orman has written, so I had to give this one a chance. I was not disappointed. I would love to read more and find out what made Matteo the man he became.

Gia only knows how to be a slave. That's what she was born to do. She was also told she'd never be sold. That's about to change.

"The single word from his lips made my entire body shake. I wasn't for sale. Madam had said that many times when other offers had been made from buyers. Apparently that had changed."

Matteo is intense. He has no remorse, he has no feelings and he doesn't care who gets in his way. he will end them without batting an eye. Family or not.

"I don't care about the fucking blood. It turns me on. Don't pull away from me again..."

Matteo is a tough guy to break but Gia might be the light in his life to help do that. Can she survive that long?

I really enjoyed this book but it seemed rushed. I wanted to learn more about the characters. This book is dark and there are some triggers. READ THE WARNING. It's there for a reason.

Rachael, I can't wait for the next book! I need to know if things change for Gia!

Please take Rachael's warning about the contents of this book. This was my first dark read that included slavery. It was tough reading in the beginning, but I kept going, and I'm glad I did. The world that Matteo and Gia live in is all they know. Once you accept that, it gets easier to read the book. Without giving any spoilers, Matteo has his reasons for buying Gia, and Gia just wants to understand how to please him. That's pretty much her reason for existing. Matteo shows Gia things that she never experienced, due to her upbringing and circumstances.

This was an engrossing story that I couldn't put down. It was a very dark read, and I surprisingly enjoyed it. Now, I did need some ice cream and I may or may not have cuddled with my teddy bear for a while after reading this story.

I've read Rachael's MC series, and Matteo was like someone totally different wrote this book. That tells you a great deal about Rachael's imagination and talent. If you can handle a book with graphic domestic violence, there is a great story to be told here.

Be very clear, when it says this book is dark, and violent, and should not sit easily with you as you read, that is exactly how it is.

That said, this is a very well written book about a horrifying topic. One which most of the world conveniently forgets. So to give it four stars and say I like this book, isn't exactly true - I knew I should read it, and by the end, I was thankful of my life, and of how I treat my daughters, but like isn't the right emotion. I was sad, disturbed and affected. Thankfully, insight into the thoughts of Matteo brought the stress levels down at just the right moments, and the ending ... works.

Thank you Ms Orman for having the insight to write such things, even if they are difficult to read!

After reading some reviews, I decided to give this book a chance. I'm really glad I did. I love dark books and this one is dark and somewhat disturbing in parts. I wanted to scream at Gia sometimes and be like, don't take the way Matteo is treating you! Fight back! But honestly, I see why she couldn't because she was born a slave and knew no other way. I've not read a book where the girl was like Gia and it was refreshing from seeing how someone trained from birth would act. Matteo is hot but I just couldn't figure him out. It was like he was Bi-polar at times and then the author added another twist into the story and hated his guts. Nothing Gia does is right and she just doesn't understand why. The story totally went a different way than I was expecting and I was some what confused at parts but the ending gave me all the answers I needed for me to give it 5 stars.

This review has been by far, the most difficult one to write. The story line is brutal and there's no way around it. Let me set the stage........

Matteo is being backed into a corner by his father to do something he has no desire to do. He's only doing to show his willingness and loyalty to the family, so he goes to a brothel to purchase a girl. The Madame parades all her best girls in front of him but not one of them catch his interest, (it makes me sick to even type that) until she shows him the one girl that has never had to participate. Gia was born to a madame but never did she think that her mother would sell her. She thought maybe Matteo wouldn't be so bad as he called her "his bella" after brutally trying her before they even left the house. Even though she would sometimes teach the other girls how to act, her life changes dramatically as she has never had to endure a "master" before. She tries to be what he wants, but she can't stop upsetting him unintentionally.

I want the record to show that I gave this book 5 Stars, not because I wasn't sickened by the darkness, but because I believe Rachael Orman stepped out of her own comfort zone to write this story that although has fictional characters, is realistically accurate about Human Trafficking. I also believe that ALL WOMEN need to read about this evil plaguing our society today. She forces us to open our eyes about this horrifying crime against our sex. It was extremely mentally and physically painful to force myself to finish it, but I did it because as painful as it was to me to read about, I started thinking about the girls that have to live it, about how we only get a glimpse into the true horror of it all. And for me to stand up and fight for the girls with no voices, I can't shut my eyes to the painful truth because it takes me out of my comfort zone. What if my teenage daughter was abducted and sold as a sex slave? How would I feel about people ignoring it because they don't want to face the truth? When a judge asked a human trafficker in his courtroom why he sold humans, he answered with "Because I get less time selling girls than drugs if caught." The sad fact is that there simply isn't enough law enforcement to handle this rapidly growing crime. THANK YOU Rachael Orman for having the courage to write this "taboo" book that I'm sure has caused drama. THANK YOU for taking a chance so you could open more eyes to this horror. THANK YOU for adding in the facts at the end of the story so even more eyes will be opened! Although, Matteo had a HEA, the stark reality is most of the girls in captivity will never see one. I'm praying ALL women can put aside their own feelings, step out of their happy comfort zones, and read this book. We, women, as a whole could move mountains! Well done and I salute your bravery Rachael Orman!

For love or hate, or simply, true evil?

Being born into slavery, I never thought my owner, my very mother, would sell me. And she didn’t.
Until Matteo.
The man confused me at every turn with his unexpected and unattainable desires.
If only he’d speak to me.
If only I could please him. (part of Goodreads Blurb)

Matteo is the type of novel that you either love or hate. It is incredibly dark, powerful and painful. Our slave, whose name we hear maybe three-four times, Gia, is referred is mostly as bella, was sold by Madam, her mother, to Matteo, a Russian Mob 'prince'. Matteo has a wicked temper: one minute he may be tender and the next brutal and cold. Now that the basics have been laid, here is why it is a love or hate book:
From birth Gia has learnt what punishments were, the preferred poses to greet her master and knows only to speak when she is asked to, all this from Madam. Once at Matteo's things change since he demands that greet him in bed, that his d¥#k be the only that she accepts otherwise she will be punished. Punishments are the nightmares she never thought she'd ever endure; torture, pain, hell and sometimes, tenderness. Days become nights and Gia has no idea what to expect, but tries to be a good girl for Matteo, so she can avoid any more punishments from him.
The further I read the novel, the more I was intrigued, why would Gia stay? She's repeated often enough she wouldn't run. I wondered if as a reader, more insight would be given on Matteo's point of view. And then I wondered, curiously, if this was the most extreme side of the sado-masochism side of BDSM; let's be quite frank, many passages are difficult and very graphic.
So, why love it or hate it? That depends on the reader. Due to the nature of the novel, some may be offended, others may be intrigued, and others, undecided. Or, maybe, it isn't as simple as black and while and there is a gray area, and we can both love and hate the book. And as for Matteo and Gia, and their story, is 'it good til the last drop', I can honestly say, readers will not be disappointed.

I know that the author placed a warning at the end of the synopsis, but I feel that it is necessary to put my own. Please, please if this type of book is not for you, stop reading now. I am serious! This book is dark; it is not for anyone who has rape triggers or abuse triggers. This is not a slightly dark book with a side of hearts and flowers. THIS IS A DARK BOOK! Has my point been made yet? I hope so because I am moving on to my review.

I am a fan of darker books, but this one was even hard for me to read. I had tears in my eyes on more than one occasion. But at the same time even though some of these scenes are rape and extremely abusive they would turn erotic and hot. Am I twisted in my head? Possibly. Let me make this a little clearer, Gia aka bella was sold as a sex slave, so while that does not make the situation any more right, it puts you in the frame of mind that she has. She also enjoys it when Matteo is rough with her. She was born into this life, she wants to be the perfect slave for Matteo, but he always finds faults in her.

Matteo, oh man I have a love/hate relationship with him. I think he loved Gia from the moment he laid eyes on her but at the same time he was abusive and mean. You can see why I think he did love her from the start, there are scenes when you can feel the love but then something happens and you see his nasty side. There is one scene that made me lose all love I had from him, and I honestly never thought I would even begin to like him again. Once we get further into the book you kind of get to see why he is the way he is. I wish we had more of his POV, the prologue and epilogue is in Matteo’s the rest is in Gia’s.

I am still thinking about this book, days later. I think this is going to be one of those books that stay with me for a very long time. The subject matter was hard to get through at times and it made me feel so many emotions. I believe that this is going to be a series, and if it is I want to read more. Like I said it is dark, but it sucks you into the world. I can’t say that the ending is the happiest ever after I have read, it for this story I think it fit because if it had turned saccharine sweet it would have ruined it for me.

Just a note for those of you who don't see how a story like this is possible... Also, keep in mind someone who is conditioned to react a certain way and raised in a different world that the one most people consider 'normal' won't behave the same. Being raised as a slave or in a mafia family might change the way a person reacts.

Here are some disturbing statistics regarding domestic violence. Within the next sixty seconds, twenty people will be physically abused by an intimate partner. One in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. One in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been raped in their lifetime. Intimate partner crime accounts for 15% of all violent crime. Almost half of female (46.7%) and male (44.9%) victims of rape in the United States were raped by an acquaintance. Of these, 45.4% of female rape victims and 29% of male rape victims were raped by an intimate partner.
(Domestic violence statistics found on www.ncadv.org, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.)

Human trafficking is a worldwide horror. There are more slaves in the world today than ever before. They are found on every continent, and in nearly every nation, including countries as small as Iceland. More than 75% of human trafficking is for sex slavery. Those individuals, including infants and children, are "conditioned" using various methods (almost all mentioned in this book): starvation, rape, gang rape, physical abuse, beating, confinement, threats of violence toward the victim and victim's family, forced drug use, and shame.(a) In a matter of a few years, human trafficking will overtake the drug trade as the most profitable in the world. New York, California and Florida are the states where most human trafficking occurs within the United States, and those individuals are used mostly for the sex industry, though some are used in "sweatshops", domestic servitude, and farm work.

These individuals are not forgotten. More needs to be done to end this plague on humanity. Please be aware of your surroundings, because in nearly half of all cases, the victim knows their "recruiter"/abductor.

Wow, where to start with Matteo? I wanted to give it some thought before I wrote the review because I wanted to get it right. I'm a huge Rachael Orman fan. I have read all her books and I love them. They're always that little bit different and they have an edge to them, a grittier story line.
I knew Matteo was classed as dark erotica and although I don't read a lot of dark erotica, I do enjoy it. To be honest, so much of the dark books are focused on women being kidnapped, beaten, raped and abused to make them subservient and turned into sex slaves.
This one was a bit different. Gia is born into slavery. It's all she knows. She's sold to Matteo because she is what he's been looking for. She's very obedient and only wants to please him.
Matteo is gorgeous, sexy, but a hard man. I swear at times I wanted to hit him but somehow, even during the worst he subjected Gia too, and yeah, some of it's bad, really bad, I still liked him. I'm familiar with abuse. I grew up in an abusive household and I knew that something or someone had to make Matteo the way he was. I don't believe people are naturally evil, they are a product of what they learn as children and some will carry that through to adulthood. Sometimes their abusers still abuse them as adults.
Although some of the sex is more aggressive, Rachael Orman still manages to make it hot. She never fails to write steamy sex scenes. I absolutely loved this book. I could barely put it down and I found myself holding out hope for things to turn around. Despite his abusive behaviour, there were glimpses of what I believed to be the real man showing through at times and my heart hurt for him, and for what had him in such conflict with himself.
This book might not be for everyone, but I was glued to it. I think I felt every emotion I could and at one point, I cried for Matteo. Yes, I cried for the man that some may end up calling a monster, but my suggestion to anyone who is thinking of reading this book. Dig deep, look beyond the surface. As they say, things are not always as they seem.
Again, another brilliantly written book by Rachael Orman and I can't wait for her next book.

Geez I hate to say I enjoyed the story , makes me feel dirty and twisted !! BUT this is my kind of book , I like the dark , erotic genre. The more twisted the better. That being said I DO NOT ever wish these horrible events on anyone , this is a story not reality but sadly this is the reality for many more than we realize. Having said that be aware of the disclaimer there are many triggers in here , rape , violence , some real serious hideous acts and the sex is pretty dark as well.

Not getting much background to Matteo and Gia was hard at first but the story of their now was so intense that it honestly didn't matter where they came from or who they were. What we do know is that Gia has never known any difference than to be with Madam and act as a slave. Thinking she would never be sold yet much to her surprise Matteo swoops in and buys her. This poor young woman is clueless to so much when it comes to life. It is heartbreaking to see her accept this new role and accept the abuse as she does. Matteo really doesn't have any redeeming qualities BUT every now and then there was a lingering touch or look or moment of weakness on his part and I clung to that as did Gia , sadly , because you knew there had to be a reason or explanation of his horrible behavior and attitude. His family/friends seemed nasty to me , I hated that aspect of his life. I honestly had no clue why Monique was even in the picture , then again I now get it somewhat. I really wish we knew more of the maid , she was such a BIG part of this story I feel , yet I have no clue why she was so bitter and mean to Gia , what was her deal and why ?? Wish we got inside her head. This is why I cherish dual or multiple POV's , I need to be in the major players heads. I felt better after the epilogue and again I enjoyed the story enough to fly through it in hours and finish it. I am also curious to see what comes next. Maybe this is why we were left with so many questions or desires. I have always enjoyed this author's work so I have faith this series will be great !!

**** I Love Story Time was gifted an ARC copy in exchange of an honest review ****

5 Stars!

Wow!!! That was...crazy!!! LOL. I will just start off by saying that it was a disturbing read, but still sooo good! Let's just say if you don't like to read stories about sex slaves, abuse, and forceful situations when it comes to sex, then this by far is not the book for you. But if you're looking for a story that will constantly keep you on your toes, not knowing what is going to happen next, only to be thrown for a total mind fuck, then Matteo is by far the book for you! The whole time I read this, I was so captivated that I had no idea what was going on around me. Once I started, I could not stop!

Gia was born and raised as a slave. She has worked all her life taking orders from her owner. She hasn't experienced much in life and has never been touched by a man. She never thought she would be sold... until Matteo Rossi. When Matteo saw Gia for the first time, he knew he had to have her. Once Gia was bought, her life was completely changed. Once in the hands of Matteo, Gia experienced so much more then I would have expected. There were so many times my heart broke for her because of the abuse she went through. The relationship she had with Matteo was constantly changing. At times, I thought Matteo really did care for her. But then the next minute, I couldn't believe the things he did to her. My emotions were all over the place from start to finish. There were moments that I thought I had it figured out, only to realize I didn't. In the end, I finally understood all the twist and turns!

I don't want to say too much more, only that it was an amazing story! It's hard to say that considering the events that took place, but it really did keep me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. I would definitely recommend it to someone that's looking for a story like this. I am looking forward to reading book 2 in the series!

This book has slavery, rap, violence, and more. It is a dark story and if you have a problem reading about those types of things then this book isn’t for you. I liked this book. Gia was raised in a horrible way. Her mother is a madam and even though Gia is her daughter she is treated just like the girl she sells. Gia never though her mother would sell her as she has turned down other offer for her. Matteo went to find a good slave girl who could give him a child and get his dad off his back. None of the girls he saw were what he wanted then he was shown Gia and wanted her immediately. However Gia wasn’t trained like he thought she was. She knew some things but not everything. What Matteo didn’t expect was to develop real feeling for Gia. Gia has only ever known this type of life. She wasn’t prepared for how bad things could get though. She learns there are all different types of pain. While this book is dark there is a HEA at the end. I like books like this because life isn’t all sunshine and roses for everyone. These types of things happen. While they aren’t nice they are happening. Matteo must decide if he is going to continue to do what makes his father happy or what makes him happy. I felt bad for Gia because she spends most of the book confused and trying to figure out what she did to displease Matteo. Matteo is stuck between his feeling for Gia and what is expected of him. Matteo is the son of a mafia boss and things are done a little differently in his world. He feels so bad that because of him all these things are happening to Gia. He keeps hurting her and doesn’t want to keep doing it. Will he be able to be with her and not hurt her in some way? This book drew me in and I read it in a couple of hours. It was wonderfully written and the characters are great. This is the first book I have read by Rachel Orman. I look forward to reading other books by her in the future.
I was given this book in return for an honest review.

So I finished this book a few days ago and still have no idea how to write this review. I want to say i loved the book because honestly I did but not for most the reasons I love dark books. This one I have to say was a bit darker than what I am use to (which says a lot)

I didn't really find anything I didnt like about it but saying that makes it seem like I'm okay with having a female as a slave and all the things that went on in this book. But that is not what I am trying to say. Things like what happened in this book happen in our world right before our eyes and people dont see it or are just to blind to care.

What I did love i guess you could say is how it is written. everything in this book flowed yes at times I thought that Gia was naive but when you are born in basically a brothel and raised the way she was then what Matteo did to her she would consider acceptable.

Matteo he is not your every day Hero or Alpha male you fall in love with. But what choice did he have? Hes part of the Italian Mafia and when raised the way his father raised him he though what he was doing was right. Gia captured him from the first time he saw her. He wanted her he got her. But being Italian and in the Mafia there are certain things that are required of him. His father wanted him to marry and produce an Heir.

In the beginning that was fine and dandy until it was found out that Mia was part of a family that was against the Rossi's. That is like dirty blood.

The content of this book is not pretty. Some of it was a little hard to read through due to the graphics but at the same time (I do not wish an person to live in these conditions) I have never been through this nor have known anyone to go through anything like this so it is easier for me to read.

In all honesty I can see myself reading more of Rachael's book in the future. She pulls you in right from the beginning and doesnt let go.

Wow...Rachael Orman this book was absolutely stunning. There truly are no words for how absolutely fantastic this novel truly was.

Matteo is a dark erotic novel so let me first start by saying if for any reason you can not handle explicit violence, slavery, sexual content, or any kind of twisted behavior and I do mean twisted please turn away and do not even bother looking at this book because it's not for you. I mean that with love friends dark erotica is not for everyone. Now if dark erotica is your cup of tea then open this bad boy up and start reading because Rachael Orman is a genius and I am seriously in awe of the masterpiece she created!

Matteo is looking for the perfect female (slave) to pass his fathers test you see his father is the head of the Italian Mafia and he wants his son to find a wife who will give him an heir. What Matteo wants is a slave who will obey him and and when she doesn't he will punish her and when I say punish I mean well I said it was dark Im sure you can use your imagination :) Gia is an innocent that has been born into slavery and purchased by Matteo and now that she is in the hands of Matteo will she survive this ordeal?

I absolutely love how Rachael connects the reader and the characters and this book is a roller coaster ride of emotions, it is full of highs and lows and you feel every single one of them. I felt like this book not only touched my heart and my soul by my mind as well I honestly was connected with the characters on a deep level to the point that you feel what Gia is going through when she is broken you feel broken with her I cried right along side her there were times in the book that I wanted to beat the hell out of Matteo myself thats how great of a writer Rachael Orman is. So hats off to you Rachael thank you so much for this fantastic novel! You have become one of my all time Top 5 Dark Erotica Authors! I bow down to your greatness and cannot wait to see what you have in store for us readers next!

Matteo, Matteo Matteo!! I flipping loved this book. Rachael Orman pushed the limits and boundaries when she wrote this book, but let me tell you it only intensified the emotions and feelings I had while reading it. I love getting to read a book that leaves me guessing and wanting to scream at the characters. This book definitely brought out every raw emotion it could while I was reading it. Such an amazing book with all kinds of dark and troubling situations that push you to love the kindred spirit that is Matteo.

Gia is an amazing character. I love her spirit and everything about her. She never once gave up and even though she was taught to act a certain way and had a really horrible life she still kept going. I found myself just wanting to shake her and wake her up. I wanted her to fight back and not give in to her first instinct to please others. But she couldn’t escape who she had become due to the life she was brought into.

Matteo has such a strong presence in this book. He will have you fighting so hard to figure out if you love him or hate him. Yes, it’s a love/hate relationship, but in the end I fell in love with his soul. It was dark and disturbed and I didn’t agree with how he dealt with his feelings, but I loved that his love was so deep. I was left reeling after reading this book and I can’t help but say it’s an emotional and soothing journey I am so glad I experienced. This book will blow you away.

If you love a dark, gritty, and emotional journey then this is the book for you. Might I add if you don’t like dark disturbing books then you shouldn’t read this one. There are moments in the book that will upset you, but I found that each piece of the story made it a whole and so much more stimulating.

I give Matteo by Rachael Orman 5 out of 5 WICKED STARS!
