A Wonderful Adventure That Celebrates the Power of Imagination ★★★★★ 5 OUT OF 5 STARS -- Foreword Reviews (Best Middle Grade Fiction, Winter 2014-15)

Anthony's adventure begins after he loses the note. The note that his third-grade teacher Mrs. Quickett wrote to his parents:

"I am very concerned with Anthony's use of time in our classroom. He cannot seem to stay on track. He daydreams. He drifts. He forgets his assignments and rarely finishes his classwork on time."

The note he folds into a paper airplane and launches from the top of the Boulders. The note that soars away, much like Anthony's imagination, and disappears through a magic portal into a strange land called The Realm of Inner Time.

Join Anthony as he searches for the lost note with the help of a luminous creature--the Time Fly named Pteros Chronos, and Mr. Exactus Watchit, official Time Keeper of High Time.

What they discover is far more than a paper airplane. Come along! You're just in time!

"TIME FLIGHT is a welcome counterpoint to what the media and many current books offer children nowadays. It unfolds slowly. It's deep and rich in images. And it touts the imagination while subtly questioning rigid schedules and hurriedly led lives." –Susan Luton, Amazon.com review

This book ranks among my most favorite ever. Anthony, the main character in the book, is a gifted child. The book doesn’t say that, but it’s clear once you get to know his character. He thinks a lot and gets easily distracted like I do.
The story starts by introducing Anthony and the trouble he has in school with remembering things and focusing. He is given a note to take home to his parents from his teacher. That note becomes a big part of the story after he turns it into a paper airplane and sends it soaring through the air from the top of a boulder mound. Anthony then tries to recover the airplane from between the boulders, but finds himself in a cave with these amazing living lights. This is when the best part of the book begins. Anthony goes on a magical adventure. I don’t want to ruin the story for others, but I will say that Anthony travels to a very unique new land and meets a cast of several OUATs (or once upon a time’s) that most will recognize from other children’s books. As the story goes on, Anthony learns things on his journey that will help him later in his own life back home. He learns about time management, focus, the importance of imagination and keeping stories alive.

One of my favorite characters he meets is Mr. Exactus Watchit. Mr. Watchit loves clocks and I always held my pocket watch tight in my hand as I read this book. I also love that in the story, Anthony keeps a dictionary of words that he learns the meaning of and I got to learn some new words from that. Another of my favorite characters is Pteros Chronos who is the guide to Anthony throughout the story.

I loved that this book is a fun and creative story, but it also introduces young readers to new vocabulary words! The author names characters fun names that help the reader easily differentiate and remember them. There are lots of lessons woven in as well. This is a fantastic book to read with your child as it will keep your attention as well!
