Keeping June

Rate this book
June Laurie has spent the better part of her young adult years in the Hollywood world of fame, envy, and rumors, and has managed to come out of it mostly unscathed. Now that she’s finally followed her heart and married her true love, she knows she’s found the perfect end to her story. But at twenty-two years old, it turns out her story is only beginning — and marriage, it seems, is more of an opening act than a finale. When fans of June’s television show start spreading online rumors about her faithfulness to her new husband and fabricating an off-set romance between her and her costar, she learns that even marriage offers no immunity from the gossip that always seems to haunt her. With complications in her personal and professional lives threatening to topple them both, will June be able to hold to her beliefs and her newfound happiness, even as what she thought was her perfect ending transforms into the challenges of reality that lurk beyond the fairytale?

This is a series that must be read in order, as it builds upon each book. June is a Hollywood actress, who happens to be LDS, and is ready to marry her childhood sweetheart. She struggles to balance her personal and professional lives, as she adjusts to marriage and Hollywood life.

June is a normal, likable character--not a diva in any way. I can't even imagine the pressures of acting, let alone the drama that ensues because of the paparazzi and gossip. I also can't imagine having to fake love and romance with someone other than my husband, but it's all in a day's job for June. Based on the description of the book, I thought this would be a bigger issue to the story than it actually is.

Of course, Joseph, June's husband is adorable and a great asset to the story. He handles their life with ease. There are some issues to work through, as most newlyweds know, and this couple has more than their fair share. I enjoyed the conflict and resolution, as many emotions are evoked. This isn't an easy happily-ever-after.

As always, I enjoy the supporting cast in this series. From June's ex-boyfriend and current on-screen love interest, to the snarky make up artist and best friend, to the other sweet and shocking characters. I've loved watching their friendships throughout the series and found satisfaction in the end. True friendships aren't always wrapped up in pretty little bows. There are some aspects of the story that are really glossed over and because I feel such a part of these characters lives, I wanted a little more detail to some of them, such as the wedding and the day-to-day settling in of their marriage. This is a great read for those who enjoy a clean contemporary romance set in Hollywood and don't mind some religious details.

Content: squeaky clean romance, with one or two very vague comments of innuendo; some hard emotions; moderate religion, specific to the LDS church. Clean!

Loved this book. I was pretty shocked at the content of this final book in the series. I didn't see it coming at all. At the end, the author discloses in her acknowledgements, that from the beginning, she knew the end. And that writing this final book would be very hard. Looking back at the other books in that context, I still never saw it coming.
I thought Shannen did an amazing job at tackling such a hard topic. It's can be very hard and challenging for women in the Church to keep their eye on eternal perspective when the world is just in your face all the time. The trials our Heavenly Father gives us sure makes it easy for us to let Satan in. All the fear and doubts are not from our Father, they are of this world. Shannen captures the fear and doubts so well and shows how easy it is to let them creep in.
I have spent my time reading the June series with laughing fits so many times. My boys have literally looked at me sideways as I'm reading one of the books because I literally laugh out loud. I love Shannen's humor. The beginning of this book, definitely made me laugh, but when the subject matter changed, I have to admit, this book really made me cry. I could really feel the emotion and I know it must have not been easy for Shannen to write.
I also have to say I did enjoy reading June from a mindless teenager (Book 1) to a college co-Ed (Book 2) to adulthood (Book 3 and 4).
I definitely give this book an A+ and an A++++ for the series as a whole.

This was truly a beautiful ending for the June series! I highly recommend reading this with a box of tissues nearby, as the last portion of this book covers a very sensitive subject and had me in a steady stream of tears. However, it was written so beautifully and gave a perspective on the issue that not everyone has the opportunity to see. Having had a friend go through a similar situation, it was nice to get a better idea of what she might have been thinking.

Fitting ending

This was a perfect ending to a series I have thoroughly enjoyed! It was great to finally see June married and navigating through a whole new set of issues. Miscarriage is discussed respectfully, in a way that invites discussion and introspection, and really flows well with the rest of the story and the characters' development. It's not an easy topic to do well, but I think Shannen Crane Camp nailed it in such an inspiring way. The allusions to Hollywood drama and issues were also well-placed and thought-provoking. Sweet, clean with a PG rating.

Keeping June
Shannon Crane Camp
B.R. #3
The fourth and final book of Shannon Crane Camps June series was probably my favorite. I loved the characters complex emotions as well as the detailed but not too detailed descriptions. There was a positive feel about the whole book, and it kept me laughing while not being ridiculously funny.
My favorite thing about this book was the characters emotions and personalities. June is an anxiety ridden, passionate Mormon actress who is trying to find her place among a lot of non-Mormons. Her husband Joseph is cool, collected, and very good at reigning June in if she's freaking out too much. Ryan and Benjamin, Junes cast mates, are hilarious and secretly very understanding. And then there's Candice. She is my absolute favorite character with a dry, monotone personality you can't help but love. As she and June were preparing for Junes wedding, it says "She was in a bad mood because the ladies in the wedding dress store couldn't stop cooing about how petite she was. Apparently flattery got on her nerves. Heaven forbid if she ever won an award for the outstanding makeup she did on our TV show...she might be the first person to ever tell the Academy to take a long walk off a short pier."
Another thing I loved about Keeping June was the amazing description. There was enough that you got a good picture of what was going on, but not so much that you got bored with it and all you want to do is skip ahead. One of my favorite descriptions takes place after June is walking through the parking lot after a long day of filming at the studio. It says "I was wearing tap shoes, a polka-dot mint dress, and a snorkel mask on my head...and not one person looked twice at me. Not that they had any reason to, since I was probably the most normal looking person at the studio lot that day. The Network had recently picked up a fairy tale show, which meant tap shoes and snorkel masks were nothing compared to people whose skin was painted bright pink and men with horns."
I would recommend this book to anyone who like something they can relate to, as well as enjoy a little humor. I enjoyed this book and the entire June series.

A Sweet End to a Wonderful Series. There are two things to know about June: 1) she loves vintage—vintage fashions, vintage homes, and vintage attitudes and gender roles. And 2) she has terrible anxiety issues. This leaves her open to constantly second-guessing herself. Yes, sometimes June obsesses a little much about things, but that is part of who she is.

I loved the other characters too—her husband (don’t want to give this away if you haven’t read the other books), who is an absolute sweetheart; her cast mates Ryan, Benjamin and Dez. Benjamin cracks me up with his germ phobias. And Candice, as June’s best friend, almost steals a few of the scenes as a goth make-up artist who hates interacting with people. I laughed out loud when I read what her sisters did for her birthday.

I recommend this to anyone who likes a good clean read with fun characters. Read my full review here: http://bit.ly/1mY6X44

{This review will go over the content, as in cussing, and explicit scenes. There will be spoilers.}

This book was clean, just like the rest. I mean she does get married, so there's a closed-door moment, but there are no scenes or anything like that. There are only slight jokes from the friends, but they're brief. No cussing either. I do have to say that there could be a trigger for some people and that being...

I loved this book so much. I loved this whole series so much. June is such a good character, I love her! At first I wasn't so happy about who she ended up with since the other guy was so nice, but now I've realized she made a good choice. The ending was sad, but honestly, the author did a great job with it. This is probably my second favorite book from this series.

A great end to this series. The author handles some tough subjects well and June's anxiety issues make her very relatable (unlike her career as an actress). Love the secondary characters as well!

I've enjoyed this series and finally got around to reading the final book. I am glad I read this but had I skipped it I would have been ok with how this series ended after book 3. This wasn't the best of the series and there were a few parts that didn't feel believable to me.
