Dulcie O'Neil #7

A Midsummer Night's Scream

Rate this book
Fairy and law enforcement agent, Dulcie O'Neil, finds her life is pretty boring at the moment. Her hunky boyfriend and boss, Knight Vander, is busy setting up the new world order in the Netherworld and hasn’t been around much. Consequently, Dulcie is put in charge of Headquarters for the ANC (Association for Netherworld Creatures). Unfortunately for her, she doesn’t have a whole lot to keep her occupied…

Well, that is, until Jax Rochefort storms into Headquarters and her life. Jax, who’s a member of one of the most infamous illegal potions rings, ups and turns himself in with little to no explanation. Dulcie takes it upon herself to solve the riddle of Jax Rochefort, all the while trying to dodge his obvious advances.

Dulcie learns that the new Netherworld government is threatened by the potions cartels, who wish to see their own in power. Things heat up when Jax kidnaps Dulcie, all the while claiming to be following orders for his mysterious boss.

After discovering that everyone she cares about is directly in the line of fire, Dulcie must do everything in her power to ensure their safety as well as the security of the new Netherworld government.

I’m a huge fan of anything paranormal and I always have been. I get super excited whenever they have those Twilight Zone Marathon days and anything ghost or vampire related will always attract my attention.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I’m most excited about traveling. I’m extremely fortunate to have been able to live in England and Scotland, both places really having a profound effect on my books.

Thanks for checking out my books and I hope you enjoy them! Happy Haunting!

A Midsummer Night's Scream
The Dulcie O'Neil Series, Volume 7
By: H. P. Mallory
Narrated by: Kate Tyler
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
I enjoyed this book, it had the paranormal fun I like but it ended in "to be continued" which I didn't like.
This book has pixies, fae, werewolves, vampires, and more. It has action, romance, adventure, and sexual situations so think 18+. I was thinking this is going to be a 4 star book but then when it just stopped and said, "to be continued", well I hate cliffhangers!
The narrator was great! She made the voices wonderful! All the men, creatures, or women! Great performance!

I waiting anxiously for this book, but when I read it, I got to the point where I didn't want to read anymore, it seemed to be soooooo boring, I think I fell asleep at one point.
I hated how the ending just stopped abruptly, but also I felt like there shouldn't be another book after number 6, it seemed like the final of it, but now will have to wait for number 8 and I can't seem to find anything about it.
I felt like after the first lot it shouldn't of carried on even though was wondering what will happen next but now I don't want to know, hopefully better reading on the next one.

I have loved this whole series. But after waiting a long time for this book I was really disappointed.

The book was hard to get into and actually took until about half way before I thought it was interesting.

Then just as the story was getting good it ended in : To be continued....

I do like this authors books, and I hope the next one will make up for this book's shortcomings.

Short like her other stories, which I love her others, but this one seemed very repetitive and the scenes seemed to drag on. I found myself skipping over sentences just to get to the point.

I love HP's books, but this one as glad as I was to find ourselves in the Dulcie story line again, was incomplete and slow moving.

The book is about how someone kidnaps Dulce, which doesnt happen till HALFWAY through the book. Most of the book was her and various men exchanging comments about how hot she was and how much they wanted to get in her pants. Her boyfriend was MIA most of the book, which is fine, but their one sex scene together was rather terrible. I think it was supposed to be hot but I would have told him to go screw himself if he talked to me that way. He doesnt seem to respect this supposedly smart, courageous and strong woman.

The story continued, dragging on, and then ended just when things got interesting. Literally ended. To be continued right in the middle of the story. No wrap up or anything.

Very annoyed and disappointed that I paid for half a book, and not even a book to her usual story level.

I was so excited to see more of the Dulcie world but what I got truly felt like an extreme short addition to it.

Apart from several discrepancies in the story including Brams age, Dulcies living situation and Knights work situation all of which are different from the end of book 6 the story line itself was hardly there.

Most of it involved men telling her how hot she is and what they wish they could do to her.

What there was of the actual story was interesting but it took so long to get to the point by the end I became annoyed especially when it ended just as it was finally getting somewhere.

Its been two and a half years since the last book in this series and I am not sure why the author bothered, because she hasn’t really got a new story to tell. Most of this book consists of an inane dialogue between Dulcie and Jax , followed by an equally ridiculous conversation between Dulcie and Bram. You could have more fun watching paint dry.
This is a pity as Dulcie is a great character and deserves a much stronger story than this and definitely better protagonists than Bram and the extremely pathetic Jax.

Also I hate cliff hanger endings, how long will we have to wait for book 8, two, three years???

This one really felt like.a glorified short story. The wormhole scene was stretched out ridiculously long. Feels like the series is being milked.

My review is based on the audiobook. This series can be read as a standalone. In my opinion this story was not as captivating as others by this author. The story felt rushed and the banter & sexual innuendos between Dulcie and Jax got old and tiresome very fast. Honestly for me the narrator saved this story in that if I were reading this I would have skimmed through alot but the way the narrator read kept me engaged through the audiobook.

If you can’t figure out where most of this book is going before you get halfway in you haven’t been paying attention. I also wish the author didn’t rehash every character discription and former plot every time. If you are reading this far in to the series you pretty much know what has happened before and who everyone is.

Mostly fluff...

There's is very little substance/content to this book. At least 50-100 pages could have been cut out. The rest is fluff and/or Dulcie's internal (repetitive) dialog. After awhile I started scanning through the book just so I could skip all of the fluff. Incredibly frustrating!!

Need to read

I can't get enough of hp's books!! They are just that good. From start to finish you'll be glued to this book. Forgotten friends or enemies reappear. I didn't even see this coming. Can't wait to read the next book.

So we are introduced to yet another person obsessed with Dulcie. We get a twist in the story line that came out of nowhere...but not in a good way. I loved this series at the beginning but it has seriously lost some steam.

Now what??

Oh my...this book is one big set up, and of course, Dulcie walks right into it. Not much from the other characters in this one. I'm gonna start the next one...these books flow nicely together.

Taken

XXX! Adult content, reader discretion advised. So Dulcie is kidnapped. Ryker has a special set of skills that he can do nothing with because he has no clue where she is. Bram is MIA.

Oh Knight how do I love thee, and sadly you were in the book for like a chapter but at least it was a hot hot hot chapter.

I am so excited that HP has started writing this series again, we will still get Rand thanks to the Sinjin series, but believe me Knight will always have my heart. Cause believe me ladies this Loki is sexy.

Spoiler Alert, we have another hot Loki that just made an entrance into this story and I think he is going to be around for a while.

I love HP and I am so excited that she is writing this series again, this woman makes me anxiously await her next book with the anticipation of a three year old on Christmas. She is that good, and I thought she would loose steam writing another installment but believe me she did not, in fact I am almost as intrigued and excited about the series as I was when I read book 1.

OH HP how you ruin me with your sexy alpha paranormal men.

This is book 7 of the Dulcie O'Neil series. If you have been reading this series, then you know that book 6 came out in 2012 and this one finally arrived in 2015. Three long years before we finally to get know what else is happening in Dulcie's world.

Knight is in the Netherworld for business while Dulcie is holding down the fort at the ANC headquarters. She is bored until Knight shows up with a prisoner. Jax has turned himself in, supposedly wanting to get out of a life of crime. Of course, things are not as they seem and Dulcie is in trouble.

I really like this series so I am glad the author brought it back. Hopefully, we don't have to wait 3 more years for the next one. This one left me hanging, wondering what happens next. Gotta love those cliffhangers!

I am a huge fan of this series. I couldn't wait to see what came next from Dulcie and the gang. I must say that this book kind of let me down a bit. Although I did like the new characters. I did like the story line, but the fact that Knight and Dulcie weren't together like at ALL this book was sad for me. Then it was left with a HUGE cliffy! I don't like or dislike cliffhangers. I understand that they are needed sometimes, but man do they bum me out. LOL That being said I will absolutely be picking up the next installment. I just wasn't as happy with this book as I have been with the others in the series.

It was great fun to visit Dulcie, Knight and company again; it has been far too long since we were able to travel with them. This book was centered more on Dulcie than anyone else, except for Jax the new Loki she encounters. I know many of the reviews were not happy with the way the story unfolded but other than, it did not move as fast as I would have liked, I thought it was very interesting. The mystery part kept me guessing the entire time and other than I really dislike cliffhangers, I totally enjoyed the book.

Hurry up with book 8!

I loved the continuation this book finally gave to Dulcies story, but I must admit seeing "to be continued..." at the end of a book in the middle of a thrilling scenario is a readers worst nightmare! So I hope the next book in the series comes quick...
I'm a reader of all of HPs series, so to anyone who likes paranormal romance books, I suggest they become acquainted with her too! She's a great author and makes every series different and interesting in its own way!!!

Boring drawn out scenes....

I love HP Mallory. I have read all of her novels, and I loved her series about Dulcie. It pains me to only give her 3 stars on this book. But, there was a lot of talking and very little action, even though it was pretty clear what was going to happen. I ended up skimming the remaining half of the book....Hoping the next book to this series is better.

HORRIBLE, would love to give it 0 stars. What happened???? The rest of the series was so good, and then we get this garbage??? It was SO beyond boring I barely got through it, wanted to give up and stop reading it several times. Finally tings start to pick up a tiny bit, and the freaking book ends out of nowhere with a to be continued.....

I love Dulcie, & was so excited to hear about a new book; but this 7th book was hard for me to get through. I can't understand what it was but this book didn't do it for me. I still plan to read new books if there are any, & perhaps its just me, so with great hope i await news of another book and pray my desire to not put Dulcie down will return.

My husband bought one of my wish list books for me for my birthday, but it wasn't delivered. I got it a month late. BONUS!!! I couldn't wait to get back into Dulcie's world. Knight was off screen for most of the book. The ending. *sigh* CLIFFHANGER MUCH!?!?!? It was a 3.5, since it was pretty light. I needed more!

I love Dulcimer series, but this was so boring,I'm reading and reading waiting for some excitement, finally when something happens it's someone from the past, not someone new.Dulcie should have more self esteem, more confidence, for all the things she'd been through there should be more strength in her character. There should've been more to the story and not for the story to end abruptly

The way this book was marketed I expected it to wrap up Dulcie's story and end the series. I really didn't expect it to end with a cliffhanger! That said, it was short and I don't think much was covered in terms of story.
