Mooseamuck Island #2

A Crabby Killer

Rate this book
How far will the Islanders go protect one of their own? When the body of an 'outsider' is found stuffed in the crab boil pot right before the opening of Mooseamuck Island's annual Crab Festival, the islanders aren't too worried. After all, outsider business is none of their concern. They just don't want something as inconvenient as a murder to put a damper on their festival. But when the victim's real reasons for being on the island are revealed, suspicions fall on several of the long time island residents. Claire and Dom find themselves in the unenviable position of having to team up to prove the innocence of their friends ... too bad each of them have a different idea of who is innocent. Will Dom and Claire be able to put their differences aside long enough to nail the real killer even when the investigation threatens to expose a deeply hidden secret of one of Mooseamuck Island's most beloved residents?

Claire and Dom are at it again.

Claire and Dom are again investigating a murder. This time the victim is worth murdering.
The characters' past secrets are coming out and what fun to discover them. Also hearing about a new candy flavor. Rootbeer and caramel barrels, not for me.
Book 2 was an easy read and it's a perfect follow-up.

I thought I already reviewed this mystery set on Mooseamuck Island (how could you not get a visual of a moose running amuck and causing havoc?).

A property developer gets killed (strangled and tossed into a crab pot) on this island the weekend of the Crab Festival. Who did it? Can the two retired police detectives solve the crime without stepping on the toes of the local police and the outside homicide detective from the big city?

Are locals involved, or is there an outsider who murdered him? There are lots of possible suspects, and the two locals are keeping some facts quiet even to the other while working the case.

Claire and Dom team up together again when the body of Milton Blunt is found in the large crab boil pot for the crab festival.

Several of their friends were suspects, as Blunt was doing his best to put them out of business so he could buy their properties on the cheap.

This is another fun story from Leighann Dobb's. It has many suspects, several motives, and plots and subplots to keep you guessing.

Claire and Dom team up again to solve another murder on Mooseamuck Island. Who could have killed the nasty man who wanted to buy up the farms for condos and start his own boat company. Lots of people with motives but how to prove it. Dark secrets come out and new romances are blooming.
This is a great book a little slow to start with but the characters are so well developed and the story line will keep you guessing. Mooseamuck is a place you just want to visit and spend time there.

And a dynamic duo is born.

Claire and Dom do miss the odd clue here and there but they are subtle ones. While trying to protect the ones they care for from being charged with murder (again), they end up investigating (again) and once more prove they know their friends better than the police. (Mostly).

A crabby murder

What a great 2nd book in the series. Claire and Dom must team upon once again to find out who killed the land developer. They will have to put their differences aside to prove their friends are innocent or guilty. Will they find the killer in time all while running the crab festival committee?

Kindle Unlimited, Leighann Dobbs writes under Leighann Dobbs, Annie Dobbs and (soon) L.A. Dobbs but her real name {not sure if she writes under that one} is Lee Dobbins, Hazel Martin Mysteries only one I found for this type with her, she has not made sure that terms used match the British terms as well as in other areas for that period of architecture and assorted styles.

The Notch Cozy Mystery Series {5 out as of this writing} and the Blackbore Sisters Cozy Mysteries are not on Kindle Unlimited which as said before about 1 & 7 {the only ones given free, sure would not have bought them} and ditto for Ghostly Paws which is 1 of 5 at this time but did get others free over time.

While some of her other books are Kindle Unlimited none of the Blackmoore Sisters Cozy Mysteries are which doesn't matter to me as read #1 and #7 and was way underwhelmed. Leighann Dobbs writes under Leighann Dobbs, Annie Dobbs and (soon) L.A. Dobbs but her real name {not sure if she writes under that one} is Lee Dobbins, Hazel Martin Mysteries only one I found for this type with her, she has not made sure that terms used match the British terms as well as in other areas for that period of architecture and assorted styles. By the way, bakeries and other food service places don't run like that. Badly needs to proof things, it's messing up the flow of the book, which my computer reads to me, so that's bad. As for these, it's not that the situations couldn't happen, it's in the telling of the story, with unlikable unbelievable characters and situations, again.

Yet another goodreads won't hide it don't want to see the badly proofed badly plotted poor excuse for bad soft core porn crap. The 'historical' ones are like that and so are the some of the non cozy mysteries and some of the sorta but not really mysteries because can't write, etc ad nauseum. The most any of them got was 2 changed to 1 for crap cozy, some get a 1 which means basically crappy soft porn 'romance' etc.

3 in Silver Hollow Paranormal Cozy Mystery Series so far which are on kindle unlimited, 3 in the Moosamuck Island Mysteries , 5 in the Mystic Notch Cozy Mysteries so far {not ku}, Blackmore Sisters has 7 {not ku}, Hazel Martin Mysteries only has 1 so far, Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery series 12 so far is on ku. Others.including Scandals and Spies Book series so far 4 which are basically romance soft core porn dreck but hey you can get them on ku. Witches of Hawthorne Grove 1 so far,Cevonne Bride of Oklahoma, Unexpected Series 4 so far ku.

The Lexy Baker Cozy Mystery Series By the way, bakeries and other food service places don't run like that. Badly needs to proof things, it's messing up the flow of the book, which my computer reads to me, so that's bad. As for these, it's not that the situations couldn't happen, it's in the telling of the story, with unlikable unbelievable characters and situations, again.

Copy/paste fill in the blank seems to be pretty much what she is doing in her books, which wouldn't be half as bad if the plots and ploys and actions were believable at all.Just change the name for a book and maybe change the series list under, and you are right back to copy paste same old same old.

NOTE: I specifically mentioned certain of the 'books'/series were achieving soft core crap status, and specifically said which ones those were, reference AGAIN the above quoted review, and did not specifically mention the blackmore ones as that, BUT and had not mentioned that had went back and rated all no talent no plot cardboard charactered 'stories' listed above as 1 as well. I will change the original review to reflect that, but it is still a 1, and MY review of the crap stands.

A Crabby Killer by Leighann Dobbs is the second book in the Mooseamuck Island Cozy Mystery series. The story follows the antics of Claire and Dom as they try to figure out who murdered an outsider who was on the island during the annual Crab Festival. They are forced to put aside their differences to solve the murder, and they expose a hidden secret of one of Mooseamuck Island's beloved residents.

I enjoyed this pleasant read. Although cozy mysteries aren't usually my type of story, I found myself drawn into this book. I loved the interactions between Claire and Dom, and I enjoyed the way Leighann Dobbs use the dual point-of-view to show the readers the feeling and secrets of our two main characters.

Another thing I loved about this book is how Leighann Dobbs buried the truth about the murder so well that I was unable to figure it out until the moment before Dom and Claire figured it out. That is a rarity for me, which is why I don't read mysteries very often. I usually have the murderer picked out long before the book comes to an end.

The only thing about this novel that I did not enjoy was the head-hopping. Having two or more point-of-views is fine, but it's easier to connect to the character if the entire chapter of scene is restricted to one character and their own personal thoughts. There were several instances where the chapter would start off in Claire's point-of-view and it would stay that way for several paragraphs, but then, suddenly, there would be a little blip of a paragraph where Dom would go into how he thought or felt about the situation. It confused me a few times, but the story was good enough for me to keep reading.

Overall, it was a great story, and I rated it with 4 out of 5 stars. I would highly recommend this book, and I will purchase and read the rest of the series.

A Crabby Killer (Mooseamuck Cozy Mysteries #2) — Leighann Dobbs (23 chapters) — Oct. 21, 2018

In this book, Claire and Dom begrudgingly work together to solve another mystery: a real estate developer has eyes on property that has been in two family for generations. When he winds up dead, the two former police consultants must get to the bottom of it to clear their friends of any wrong doing.

I liked this book a lot because the two main protagonists had ulterior motives that though mirrored their reasons were for different people. They also kept secrets from each other, worried about it in their own ways and in the end felt bad about it.

After the mystery was solved, they both realized they had fun and needed each other to solve anymore mysteries that may come up. There was a indication there would be at least another one, as Dom's brow twitched.

I hope the author keeps writing about the duo and their adventures in Moosemuck. It’s a very fun cozy series that I like the more I read them. I had already read the first and third book....now impatiently waiting, and hoping for a fourth one!

Some grammatical errors and one that the spellchecker goofed on (replaced Claire with Clear…funny.) But I still don’t think you should let this deter you from reading this fun story. Maybe got a little long at the end, after the case is solved, but still a delight…and a fast read! Read it straight through in 3 hours.

Four stars.

3.5 stars, rounded up

I liked this book more than the first one in the series - maybe the characters are growing on me? I was happy to see that Claire and Dom have realized that, since their skills complement one another, it's smarter to work together than individually. I still don't like the detective from the mainland, but he's the perfect foil for the duo.

The murder victim was a visitor to the island, so there weren't many viable suspects at first, but as clues were uncovered, more names were added to the list. I kept waffling between a few characters, and didn't settle on the correct one until just before it was revealed in the book. The motive made sense, given the killer's identity.

There is only one more book in this series, which I intend to read when I'm able to add a copy to my library.

Its my second time of reading this cozy mystery series and am absolutely loving it , finding them just as much of a page turner as my first time of reading them they are a delight to read. It's a gentle read but I still find myself speed reading , to get to the conclusion when the clues are starting to click into place for Dom and Claire and they realise who the murderer is. The character development is great Don and Claire complement each other perfectly the other islanders are also fun to get to know. I really can't praise it enough I am now off to read the third one in the series whilst hoping a fourth one will be out soon. I can not get enough of moosamuck island and it's inhabitants. 😊

This was a murder mystery in the vain of Murder she Wrote or Father Brown. It takes place on a small island in Maine. A stranger is found dead in a crab boiling pot right at the beginning of a yearly crab/art Festival - that brings day trippers from the mainland. Two former Boston detectives (who now make their home on the island) try to figure out who done it; before any of their friends are accused.

I don’t read many books like this so it was difficult for me to rate it. It was well thought out and the Maine location was described beautifully; but I wasn’t pulled back to see what happened. I just like to finish a book before starting another so kept at it.

It says I read this book twice but no. I’m good with one reading LOL

I enjoy a cozy mystery every once in a while. This one, however, doesn’t really fall into category. It was very ho-hum, not much action, not much mystery, not much humor. I will say that had I read book 1 in the series, I might have enjoyed it more. There were many references to previous “cases” that were lost on me because I started with book 2. I think I’ll end with book 2 also, no more visits to Mooseamuck Island for me.

Great New Series

I have always loved Leigh Ann's books, but as a retiree, this serious really hits home. The characters are believable and well developed and an island on the coast of Maine is so much fun. Porch Cat and the parakeets are a nice touch, too! The murders are interesting and fun to see if I can come up with the correct who done it. Looking forward to more of this series and thanks for remembering we retirees.

Fun read!

This book is a fun read. A dead body is found at the crab festival and Dom and Clsire jump in to help their neighbors and solve the case. There are some funny parts, involving Nirma and a golf cart, and the mystery is fun to try to solve. This is the second book in the series, so make sure you read the first one or you will be a little confused.

I enjoy the characters and the setting on an island off the coast of Maine. The two retired, now amateur, detectives complement one another.

This mystery had a limited number of suspects and an adequate sprinkling of clues.

Looking forward to the next in the series.
