About the author

Andrew Barnes writes British comic crime fiction set in 1980s Somerset, where ordinary people have a habit of finding themselves in extraordinary situations.

Set among the pubs, back roads and small towns of the West Country, his stories combine sharp dialogue, eccentric characters, criminal misadventure and the particular kind of chaos that begins with somebody saying, “I’ve got an idea.”

His Dodge City Chronicles are fast-moving, character-driven comic crime stories populated by rogues, chancers, drinkers, dealers and lifelong friends — people who may not always operate on the right side of the law, but usually have a perfectly reasonable explanation for how they got there.

The first book in the series, Rare Birds, begins with some stolen greenhouses, two stuffed huia and the discovery that they may be worth a considerable amount of money. From there, things become complicated.

Barnes writes British humour and comic crime with a strong sense of time and place, capturing the friendships, pubs, characters and glorious absurdity of life in 1980s Somerset.
