Jim Mitchell has planned a perfect Halloween night – and a perfect film project – complete with a creepy mansion, live streaming video, and an all-night ghost hunt. He’s convinced Sara MacGilvey and her friends to be his amateur ghost-hunters, and, as night falls, they enter the mansion with a film crew and start exploring.
But the eerie darkness proves to be the least of their problems.
After a quake nearly shakes the house apart, the ghost-hunters find two members of the film crew dead. They also discover that their phones aren’t working, that no one outside is coming in to help them, and that if they try to leave the house, they’ll suffer the same fate as the crew.
Stuck in the dark and guided only by the contents of cryptic journals, Sara and the others must solve a closely guarded mystery, before they fall victim to people who are very willing to kill for what they seek.

16 books19 followersMy name is S.M.R. Cooper; I'm the author of the seven-installment Doorway series, a modern dark fantasy geared toward an adult audience, but generally appropriate for older kids - I guess I would rate it PG-13.

My philosophy - in writing and in life - is that the vast majority of problems can be solved with love and bravery, and I try to create characters who act according to that belief despite their very human feelings of fear, hopelessness, or doubt. My stories tend to be action-based, and the relationships in them - rather than taking center stage - form the stable hub around which the characters are able to be their best selves.
